  • Can you share iCloud drive storage with family members?

Seems like this would be a common question but Apple Support search came up empty. So, can you share iCloud drive storage with family members?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can share they space if they all use the same Apple ID, but that's not really a good idea, because you'll then share contacts, calendars, photos etc etc.

  • I can't set up iCloud drive on my iMac after upgrading to Yosemite

I can't set up iCloud drive on my iMac after upgrading to Yosemite - iPhone and iPad are updated but both say my iMac isn't (even though it is running Yosemite).
My iMac is OS X Yosemite 10.10 (14A389), memory is 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 and storage capacity is 273.64 free of 999.35 GB.
When i go to System Preferences and click on iCloud. The iCloud Drive section is greyed out and says setting up and a spinning pin wheel. It stays like this the whole time. I have tried restarting the computer. i amanita sure what else to do to make it work. Any suggestion would be great.

I found another way to correct this...
    1)  Select Message, then go to Preferences,
    2)  a window will appear with 3 options, General, Accounts, Audio Video, don't be surprised when you see a video of yourself, your camera just turned on.
    3) Select Accounts (you may have several here)
    4) Select the account that has "iMessage" under the account name.  This may likely be your Apple ID  ****@me.com
    5) Look at what is checked under the "You can be reached for messages at:"
    6) Select the one account (or more if you like) and deselect the others
    7) Close the window and the problem goes away.
I'm not longer getting my sons iMessages.

  • Can I use one icloud drive account to back up all family share devices?

    No
They all use different iCloud accounts and they will backup to their own iCloud accounts

  • I subscribed to 200 GB of Icloud drive storage space. How am I able to put my photos, documents etc. to my icloud storage?

I thought the new icloud drive would function simlarly to dropbox or google drive. How do import a photo taken from my iphone or ipad to my icloud drive storage space?

The "iCloud Photo Library" is still in beta right now and is not operational. it will probably be operational when the new Mac OS is released. When it is operational, both your iPad and iPhone will have the same "iCloud Photo Library".

  • Why can I only see iCloud Drive and not iCloud in Finder?

Why can I only see iCloud Drive and not iCloud in Finder? The latter is not available either under Favourites or Menu>Go>...
After a clean install of Yosemite 10.10.3 on a MacBook Pro, I chose not to upgrade from iCloud to iCloud Drive because it would break syncing with my iPhone 4. My docs are still visible in iCloud, according to System Preferences. I can access them on my iPad but I not from my MacBook Pro. Calendars and Contacts sync ok.
I tried logging out of iCloud, rebooting and logging back in, but that did not remedy the problem.
    What's gone wrong?

Just so I'm clear. You have enabled iCloud Drive in your iCloud preferences:
Now, in your Finder's sidebar you still do not see the iCloud Drive showing. In the Finder's preferences is it checked:

  • Icloud drive fails to work at all on my Macbook Air 11 inch with Yosemite recently installed, 2014-09-20

icloud drive fails to work at all on my Macbook Air 11 inch with Yosemite recently installed, 2014-09-20. It works fine on my iMac, but that's no use to me. Unless it works with my Macbook Air, it's useless. Dropbox manages very well, but Dropbox has recently promoted the War Criminal Condoleeeza Rice to its board, presumably so it can spy on its users better. So, Apple, what's the problem? Any answers to this common problem?

I like it very much. I use it on my iPad (and occasionally my iPhone). I'm kind of a keyboard snob actually. I tried the Apple wireless keyboard first. Apple keyboards have a short throw that hurts the tips of my fingers. They're very pretty but the on button turns on when I don't want it to and my iPad wakes up in my bag. Strike 1.
I went to a little keyboard called the Joy and it had a positive switch so I didn't have the wakeup problem. It worked well though after several months I wore it out and had to replace it with another one. I also didn't like how flat it sat and used rubber bumpers on the back. It too had a short throw that hurt my finger tips after a while but it was better than the Apple.
Then I discovered the Logitech bluetooth keyboard, the K811. This is a great keyboard. It switches between multiple targets with one press, it has a positive on/off switch, the keys light up, it's rechargeable and lasts a long time, and the slight cushioning on the keys keeps my fingers from hurting. I put the rubber bumpers on it though like the Joy because I like the keyboard to sit up a little. It's a tiny bit bigger than the other keyboards but I like it a lot, better than my MBA keyboard and better than my iMac wired keyboard. I'm trying out an after market keyboard on the iMac now but I'm thinking about switching to one of these for the iMac.

  • Why can't we use iTunes gift cards with family sharing? After Christmas, we now have lots of account credit we can't use. Very frustrating.

Why can't we use iTunes gift cards with family sharing? After Christmas, we now have lots of account credit we can't use. Very frustrating. There is no option found for using account credit.

I just logged out of my daughter's account and back in, and now it works. Deducted from gift card account balance. So I hope this is resolved.

  • Can I use multiple credit cards with family sharing

My kids are adults.  Can I use multiple credit cards in family sharing so they can pay for their own purchases?

    Hello Cwb1234,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
From what I understand, you want to set it up that your kids use their own credit cards for purchases within Family Sharing. Take a look at the article linked below, it outlines purchases and payments for Family Sharing and may offer a solution to the issue that you’re running into.
Family purchases and payments - Apple Support
    Making purchases
After you set up your family, any time a family member initiates a new purchase it will be billed directly to your account unless that family member has gift or store credit. First, their store credit will be used to pay the partial or total bill. The remainder will bill to the family organizer's card. As the family organizer, any receipts generated by the transaction will be sent to you. Learn more about how iTunes Store purchases are billed.
Once paid for, a purchased item is added to the account of the family member who initiated the purchase. In other words, the content belongs to them, much as it would if you were buying them a book or a DVD. If Family Sharing is ever disabled, each member will keep the purchases they initiated, even though they were paid for by the family organizer.
These are the only current options for payment within Family Sharing.
    Regards,
    Jeff D.

  • Can I share icloud drive storage between family members?

I am looking for easy offsite storage that can be easily accessed.  I have been reading a bit about the icloud drive, and it seems simple to add and open files. Can I share the storage with my husband and his computer or not?  We currently use carbonite as a backup program. Would icloud drive replace that?
    Thank you.
    Katie

iCloud Drive is tied one AppleID.  If you want to share it, all family members would have to use the same Apple ID.
The only Family Sharing Apple Supports for family members with different AppleIDs is sharing your purchases: iTunes items, iBooks, AppStore Purchases,  see:   http://www.apple.com/icloud/family-sharing/
But iCloud Drive cannot be shared between different AppleIDs, and it is also not meant to be a cloud backup. It is used to store your current working copies of your most important documents, that you need on all devices, and keep the documents updated on all devices.

  • Can you do family sharing of icloud drive storage?

I'd like to use icloud drive. 20GB is barely enough, and the next step is 200GB which is way more than I need. I'd like to effectively share that 200GB with the rest of the family (4 of us). Is there a way I can partition the 200GB amongst the family members so each effectively sees their own icloud drive?

    Hi Mick_M,
Thanks for the question. At this time, iCloud Storage upgrades are not shareable via iCloud Family Sharing. For more information on what purchases are eligible for Family Sharing, see this document:

  • Is the iCloud Drive storage space independent of the original iCloud? Do they share space? Can you use them both at the same time?

Does Apple provide 5GB storage with both iCloud and iCloud Drive for a total of 10GB? Or are they shared for a total of 5GB? I am running low on space in my original iCloud (4.7GB used), and would like to move my photos to iCloud drive and stop them from saving in original iCloud, but want to continue to use iCloud for all my other data backups/settings/etc. Thanks!

iCloud Drive is simply a newer version of iCloud (newer set of features) for handling available documents and allowing third party apps access.. Otherwise it is still part of the you overall iCloud service. Unless you choose to pay for additional storage, your total iCloud space is 5 GB.

  • Can somebody please explain ICloud email storage ?

I use Mac Mail (within OS X Snow Leopard) with both my @mac.com address and also my @btinternet.com address.
I had a Mobile Me account also when that was still available, although that's perhaps irrelevant. (My @mac.com account is long-established)
When ICloud became available my @mac.com email account became an 'ICloud' Account although nothing else appeared to change.
I have now been told that my ' email storage on ICloud has exceeded the free limit and I must buy more'
I don't understand that, as I had no idea that my email was being stored in ICloud.
My assumption was that all stored email was somewhere within the  (several terabytes) storage on my Mac Pro.
How do I stop storing email in ICloud and simply store all received email on my Mac Pro ?
Can I continue using my @mac.com account without it being an 'ICloud' account?
I do not have an Iphone or any other mobile phone. (although I do have an IPod and IPad and a MacBook)
    Gordon Sapsed

iCloud email is IMAP, as was MobileMe: this means that the emails are stored on the server and read from there by your Mac and other devices. The stored emails use your 5Gb free or extended (purchased) space.
You can reduce the online storage of emails by downloading some of them to your Mac. Create a new mailbox in Mail, making sure it is under 'On My Mac'. Now go to your iCloud email and select the messages you want to download. Drag them to the new mailbox and wait while they download (if there are a lot it could take some time).
This will remove them from the server and free up space: obviously they will then only be available to read on your Mac, not on any other devices.
Can I continue using my @mac.com account without it being an 'ICloud' account?
    No.
Your iCloud storage is also used by 'Documents in the Cloud', iOS device backup, and 'Photo Journal' galleries if you choose to host them there. It is not used by PhotoStream, iTunes in the Cloud or iTunes Match. There is no general file storage in the manner of the late lamented iDisk.
    You can increase your storage space if you need to: additional 10GB, $20 p.a., 20 GB, $40 p.a., 50GB $100 p.a.
