Can an intel core duo 2Ghz iMac handle a 12Mbps internet connection?

Is a 12 Mbps internet connection speed too fast for an Intel core duo 2 GHz Imac?

Ethernet on those models are 10/100 802.11b/g. That means the Ethernet is capable of up to 100 Mbps, roughly nine times that your the ISP's speed. The limiting factor will be your cable/DSL modem that must be able to handle 12 Mbps or faster.

(TechTool Deluxe 3.1.3) indicates the video is failing.
The graphics card is an ATI Radeon X1600. Is this reasonably
replaceable? If so, is the "MPC ClientPro 434 All In One ATI MXM X1600
PCIe 128MB Video Card" I found on eBay (for $25, used) essentially the
    same unit?
My soldering skills are, sadly, poor.
And it only dawned on me a couple days ago that because this iMac does
not have a Core 2 Duo processor, it will not be able to enter the
    "Lion" generation.
    Thanks,

PS Are manuals for this model available? I have a copy of the Peachpit
Apple Training Series "Desktop and Portable Systems, Second Edition"
but it only goes up to the G5 20" iMac. There doesn't appear to be a
3rd or later edition in the series.

  • Can an Intel Core Duo handle a 7200 rpm drive?

I'm now thinking of getting a 7200 rpm hard drive. The biggest I could find was a Seagate at 200GB. Would a 7200 rpm work in my MacBook Pro that previously had a 5400 rpm drive? I have a MacBook Pro 15", Intel Core Duo, 2.0GHz, 2GB RAM. I want to upgrade the hard drive to a larger size at 7200 rpm.
    Thanks,
    Lou

  • OS X 10.4 Server on a intel core duo 2 iMac + netinstall

    Hi there,
I am new to server and I am trying to setup netinstall with a lab of iMac we have in are classrooms. I want to spread the image over 35 machines through a switch on a internal lan, but I have installed server on one of the iMac's and I can seem to get the network port on the machine to become active. when its plugged into my switch it just says in the network settings of system prefferences that the network cable is not pluged in. Is there something else I have to do.
I really need help on this please! thanks in advance.

I actually just got off doing a web chat with apple service. They recommended installing OS X 10.4.10 client from the disc that came with the machine or if it came pre-installed with Leopard then get a 10.4.10 Disc somehow and install Client. Then install server manually. Here is a link to the Service article for installing Server over client http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305537 as far as getting the disc if you do not all ready have it I cannot help as I do have that disc if you do not you may want to contact apple and see if its something you can get here is the part number of the disc that he listed 2Z691-6022. Hope this helps.

  • Imac intel core duo 20" bug graphics

    bonjour,
    merci d'avance.
    a bientot.

Depends on how intensive you plan on getting with the iMac. For the most part, it should run pretty well. When the Adobe products become universal they should fly. I currently run all the same software plus Maya on my iMac G5 2.1 GHZ w/o a problem, so they should run just as well on the intel (more so when all apps become universal). I actually plan on selling the G5 and picking up the intel version so I can run boot camp and 3D Max as as well.

  • Imac intel core duo random shutdown

My iMac 2006 (late) intel core duo 2ghz shuts down regularly after brief periods of activity. As soon as I turn it on, the HD fan spins at around 5000rpm according to istat pro. All other fan speeds and temperatures are normal.I need to unplug it for at least an hour in order to successfully boot up again, an then the same thing happens over again. A new HD was recently installed with the Mac OS extended (journaled) scheme on , and someone mentioned it should have been as GUID scheme. Can that be a possible culprit ? I dusted it all out, changed the ram for new and even changed the power cord.

it should have been as GUID scheme
Yes - any Intel Mac needs to be GUID partition scheme in order to be bootable. So, if yours boots up without a problem, then it should be ok. Check Disk Utility (Applications > Utilities).
What OS version are you running? I'd suggest booting from your disks (not knowing which version I can't be specific - but one should have AHT (Apple Hardware Test) included. See these instructions on how to run it (use the extended test) and post any messages or results you get:

  • Can a MacBook Pro1,1 - 2GHz Intel Core Duo be upgraded to Lion or even Leopard?

Is it possible to upgrade the OS from Tiger to either Lion or Leopard on a MacBookPro1,1  2GHz Intel Core Duo (2006)?  Need to upgrade Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft software...

Here's something to consider. I see you have 1G RAM. That works well enough for Tiger 10.4. However, I think Leopard or Snow Leopard will be happier if you increase the RAM.
Your MBP can handle up to 2G of RAM. It has two RAM slots'In your case, there would be one 512MB module in each slot. You could replace one 512MB module with a 1G module and have a total over 1.5G. That would be a big help. Or replace both. If you are in the US, RAM is not expensive (see: 2.0GB Upgrade Kit                 (1.0GB Modules x 2 Matched) for US$33), and the RAM is easily installed even by the most novice user.
Here are the Apple Instructions for installing RAM in teh first Gen MacBook Pros:

Can I upgrade my 2006 iMac 4,1 with Intel Core Duo w/1/5GB memory, 667GHz Bus Speed, 2GHz Processor Speed to the newer OS systems?
I have been told my machine is now "vintage or obsolete" and can't be upgraded to the newest OS software.

The maximum OS for that iMac is 10.6.8.

If you want to sync it to the iPad from that Mac, you need to upgrade it to at least 10.5.8.
If you want to copy the music to another Mac, you don't. Move the iTunes folder of the item in the Finder's sidebar over as you would any other folder. If you put it somewhere other than the Music folder, launch iTunes with the Option key held down and point it to that location.

Here is the information about  downloading Lion when it is released in July.

If you don't meet these requirements, as of now, you wouldn't be able to run Lion.  If anything changes, I am sure Apple will let us know.

Can the monitor be fixed on an iMac if it goes black (2006 17-inch, intel core duo)?

Apple consider this product vintage so they won't perform any hardware service on it. You may have to look towards 3rd parties.
