Can an iPad keyboard malfunction?

Whenever I want to type something on my iPad Mini, the keyboard is not in it's usual place at the bottom of the screen (It appears to be slightly above the bottom by about an inch). Does this disturb any other Apps on the device and is there a way to fix the issue?
App Store and Internet are also not functioning as well as they normally should (they're really slow, but the internet signal seems O.K.). Is this relative to the keyboard issue?
The current storage space left is approx. 7 GB. Total storage is 13.5 GB.
I don't think there're any jailbreaks on my iPad, but one App was downloaded using a different App Store User.
Thank you for your answers!

No, the keyboard issue does not have anything to do with the internet issue.
My boilerplate for the keyboard problem .....
If the keyboard is split and covering your text, Pull the two ends of the keyboard together - into the middle of the screen. You can also tap and hold down on the little keyboard icon in the lower right corner of the keyboard and select - Dock and Merge.
If the keyboard is up on the middle of the screen, but not split, and you want to move it back to the bottom - tap and hold down on the little keyboard and icon and select - Dock
You can turn the split keyboard off in Settings>General>Keyboard>Split Keyboard>Off.
For the internet issues, clear Safari, close all apps on the iPad and then reset the device.
Go to Settings>Safari>Clear Cookies and Data.
Now close all apps. In order to close apps in iOS 7, you have to drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Finally, reset your iPad. Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

My iPad keyboard (spontaneously?) divided in half with one side on the left side of the tablet, the other on the right side and an equal blank space separating them.  The entire keyboard also became smaller.  How can I get it back to normal?

You can also turn OFF Split Keyboard

  • Can the "Apple iPad Keyboard Dock" unlock an iOS device?

I have a iOS device where the touch screen isn't working any more after some water damage, and even replacing the front display doesn't help. It's apparently a problem on the circuitboard that I cannot get fixed.
I only need to be able to unlock it so that I can connect it to iTunes and back it up, so I wonder if this "Apple iPad Keyboard Dock" can be used to unlock the device.
Does someone own this keyboard and could try this? Can you unlock the iPad or iPhone and enter a passcode after pressing the wake button, without having the swipe on the screen?

No.  The iPad Keyboard Dock connects to the iPad through 30 pin connector on the iPad.  Your PC wouldn't have that connector.
Instead, you should just get a USB keyboard, which basic models are often just $20.

  • Can i use the old iPad keyboard dock for iPad2?

can i use the old iPad keyboard dock for iPad2?

Instead of inserting a ruler behind the iPad, I have found that putting the Keyboard Dock on an incline plane also works.   Once I found the appropriate angle of the incline, then I cut a piece of wood with that same angle, painted it white, andglued the Keyboard Dock to the piece of wood.
Now I don't have to insert a pad or ruler between the iPad and the Dock.  The iPad now leans forward to the correct angle.
The raised angle also helps  me type better due to the tilt.

I just bought an iPad 2 and a iPad keyboard dock and can't get them to work together.  What do I need to do?

    Hello,
You would need to pair the Apple Remote with the receiver. So I would use the generic Mac/PC receiver and follow these instructions:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1619
If that doesn't work then check in System Profiler to see if the IR receiver has been recognized by the PowerBook's hardware. You may require the install of drivers for this device to be recognized.
    Best of luck

  • U150 keyboard malfunction after changing screen, = repeating, few numbers not working

    Hi!
I changed my cracked U150 screen on my own (warranty is passed).  I thought it worked fine on test boot before attaching the bezel.  I aborted the test boot (as the instruction video said to do), and put on the bezel with some difficulty (it's a tight fit on the bottom of the screen around the hinges).
The next boot up failed, which I've never seen before. Got a bit worried, as it wanted me to try recovering to a set point (several weeks prior).  Opted to just turn off and back on, and it seemed to work...EXCEPT now a few keys on the keyboard malfunction.  Esc, `, 5, 6, 0, ) and Delete all type their character and then immediately type an = which repeats.  The actual = button does nothing: types nothing.  In caps, the keys do the same thing, but of course type a + which repeats.  F5 also does it, and I'm not sure about other F keys because I don't want to do some function that will shut down my typing right now!
U15============ 0========= )+===========  When I press any other key, the repeating equals stops, of course...
When I boot up, the computer beeps repeatedly as if a key is repeating in error, so something in startup must use one of those keys and causes the same issue: since I don't actually press any key on bootup, does that indicate it's more of a software problem than a hardware problem?
I've taken off the screen bezel again (a real pain and not a good repeated activity because I typically break one tiny plastic clip each time no matter how careful I am) and no change. I see no keyboard cable anywhere near the screen or cover or hinges-just WLAN cables and the camera. I did not spill anything on the keyboard and it worked totally fine until I replaced the screen. Online info about Lenovo S or Y series seems to show the keyboard cable down low, so again, not near the screen.  The screen website (laptopscreen.com) folks had nothing to say that helped. My search online shows nobody with a similar experience.
There is no Lenovo keyboard driver on the Lenovo site, so I don't see that uninstalling and reinstalling the driver would make a difference: besides, how do I reinstall a keyboard driver if I can't use the keyboard once I've uninstalled it?  Is the mousepad enough to reinstall?
So, I would be ever ever so grateful for any help/ideas. What's my next step: taking out the keyboard to see if the cable loosened, even though I went nowhere near the cable??
    Thanks!!

So it's been a while, but these things can drag out in life...now my brain is starting to adapt to the change, and that's annoying, so I'm back at trying to fix this.
I tried safe mode, and the problem persists.  I tried returning all my startup options to default, and it persists.  I previously had returned to a Restore Point before the problem, and that didn't fix it.
Today I was going to look at the keyboard cable, but getting the top off is proving to be difficult and since I can use the machine as is, even if annoying, I don't want to go there yet.  Besides, there is no reason for this to be a hardware issue:
I aborted a bootup by pressing and holding the power button.
Next bootup failed, and the machine asked me to restore to a previous Restore Point.
I turned off the machine again instead of restoring, and ever since then I've had the keyboard problem.
I tried uninstalling the keyboard and restarting computer so the driver reinstalls, and that didn't fix it.
I plugged in an external keyboard and that worked fine.
I am now wondering about using Linux to get at the problem.
Any ideas?  I totally appreciate how active you are on this forum, and all the folks you've given advice to.  You are making computers work for people: thanks!!

  • Ipad Keyboard (one with docking station attached to keyboard)

I had just recently purchased the Ipad keyboard, the one with the docking station attached to the keyboard. The problem is I use it in my car a lot and find it difficult to use. Is there anything 3rd party that will allow me to connect a cable to the ipad and then one to the keyboard so that I can type without the Ipad being in the docking station. It would be so much easier to use. Additionally I have to remove my Ipad from it's case to use it as well and risk damaging it when it's not in a case. Any feedback and assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time everyone.

Yes there is. Check it out here.

  • IPad keyboard question.

can I force my ipad keyboard to open? I run a program that requires an 'enter' command, in a non 'type-defined' area of the page.
Many thanks for your help in advance.

    Thanks Sergio, Thanks Fred.
Fred, nothing dodgy going on I assure you
It's my work mail program - Novell WebAccess. On my MacBook I can highlight an email and then hit enter to open it, or alternatively double tap.
On the iPad I can highlight the email with a single tap, but not being text-defined (apparently) means that no keyboard shows. Double tapping only zooms in and out......
I have to say I don't know the Novell software very well, and so I'll check this also, but I can't see anything in the Novell settings to allow me to open email in a different way.
    Any thoughts?
Sergio, you're right that a physical keyboard would no doubt sort it, but I have my laptop for that. It's the sheer portability of the iPad that I was sold on.

  • Typing Chinese characters on iPad keyboard

How can I type Chinese using the iPad keyboard and how to switch between English and Chinese?

I'm referring the Keyboard dock, not the built-in keyboard on iPad.
You still need to use the Settings to select the Chinese keyboard layout. There is a separate section for hardware keyboards, where you can further choose us, french, german (depending on whether your physical keyboard is qwerty, azerty, or qwertz).
Are you having some problem after doing that? Are you familiar with how normal pinyin input works?
