Can an iphone 3g battery leak of explode on overcharge?

It just happened to 2 of then handsets in my home. One sony ericsson w350i and other nokia 1100. They were left to overcharge a couple of times and then the battery just stopped working. Upon observation the whole battery had swollen up, without any external leaks. I was wondering if something like this can happen with the iPhone 3g or is the firmware smart enough to make it stop charging on full charge?
I also bought an app called sleep cycle which requires iPhone to be running overnight without screen lock and is recommends users to keep it plugged in to the charger so that it can stay up to sound the intended wake up alarm. Is this bad for the battery?

I hope thats the same case with the MacBooks as well. Recently I had to get the battery replaced. I would keep it plugged in all the time and never re calibrated in 4 months! Now, I just drain it onces a week or 10 days and intend to calibrate it once a month.

  • Can an iphone's battery be replaced?

My iphone is having a lot of battery issues lately (it's just 10 month old). It's draining super fast in less than 12h even when i am not using it. Other times i'll still have about 14% of battery left and it just shuts itself down as if it had 0%. Then i try turning it on again, and it tells me to charge my iphone but if i try it more than once it turn itself on and a 14% battery percentage is still shown. But then i try actually using the phone and it shuts itself down again. I am not from the US and i don't have apple care but i do have an iphone insurance with my carriage and i could take it to their tech service but i was wondering if an iphone's battery is replaceable or am i just going to have to get a new one?

TThis definitely sounds like a problem that requires a trip to an Apple technician. Make an appointment at an Apple Store to have a technician examine your device. Or contact Apple Support.

  • My iphone 3GS battery exploded, and made the whole phone bloated.

My iphone 3GS battery exploded, and made the whole phone bloated.  I contact my local apple support and they said it is a normal case when battery is used for more than one year.  Where else can I can some reasonable explanations and solution from apple about my phone.  My phone cannot be used, and I have lost alot of valuable data and photos.  Can I recover them?  What can I do now?

If you've been using your phone as recommended, you've been syncing your data to your computer frequently, and importing any photos taken by the iPhone to your computer (or using photostream).  If you  havent' been doing this, then you've no one to blame for any data loss and any phone, which can be damaged, dropped, stolen or otherwixe become inoperable was NEVER meant to be a storage device.
As far as your battery is concern, is is NOT normal for the battery to "explode" after a year.  Contact an authorized Apple service provider or Apple itself to see what your replacement options are.

  • Possible iPhone Battery Leak?

Last night when I got home I plugged my iPhone into the charger cable and noticed that there was some resistance and the connector was a bit crooked.
I looked inside the connector area on the phone and there was a yellowish deposit on one side of the connector. My iPhone has definitely not been in contact with any food or anything else, and from the location it appeared that this deposit leaked from inside the phone.
So, it appears that this may be a battery leak. I'm traveling at the moment, so I don't have access to an Apple store, but when I get back I will take my iPhone into the genius bar and see what they think.
I carefully cleaned out the deposit with a paper clip; it was a powdery residue. The iPhone is working normally and no further deposit has appeared, but I'm wondering whether it is safe to use the phone until I can have it looked at.
Does this sound like a battery leak to any iPhone experts out there?
    Thanks,
    Jack

You'd be surprised what falls into one's shirt or pants pockets on a daily basis. Everything from corn muffin crumbs to pocket lint.
The current generation of lithium polymer batteries are unlikly to leak, and if you look at the autopsy photos of an iPhone, you'd have quite a mess inside before it could every corrode its way to the connector.
And i wouldn't use a paper clip - you could damage the pins or short something out!

  • My iPhone 5 Battery Drains Too Quickly! Apps closed, bluetooth off, brightness, low, no notifications...What else can I do?

My iPhone 5 battery life is terrible! The software is updated--ios 7.0.6. I have to charge my phone 2-3 times a day on some days. I have to close all apps, turn off location services, turn off bluetooth, turn off 90% of my notifications, lower the screeen brightness to less than 10-15%, and turn off all push notifications--all to get my battery to last until 6:00pm.
I may talk on the phone 10-20 minutes a day, but check emails on my phone a few times in 10 hours. I am indoors most of the day so cold temperatures aren't at play (although if I do use my phone in the cold (less than 25 degrees), the battery drains within minutes!) If I leave  my Camera, Facebook, Maps, or the Weather Channel open in the background, my battery will go from 100% to 20% in less than 2 hours.
I have been to the Genius Bar more than once. They replaced the battery about a year ago becasue it was bad. I returned a few weeks ago to have them checked my battery again and it tested fine. The Genius I spoke with wiped my phone and removed all data on it and reset it. Unfortunately, the problem has not been solved.
Has anyone had similar problems? How did you resolve them?

I set the phone up this morning as a new phone no back up.
    Brightness set to full
    No wifi
    No bluetooth
    No back ground programs running
Fetch every 15 minutes for emails for half the day and then went to manually for second half
3G for half day and 2g for second half
    tethering off
thats all I can think of. My friend and I looked at all his setting and mine and they were both similar except he keeps his on wifi all day.
we put them to exact same spec when i got to his house at 3. I had close to 50% from a full overnight charge and when I left at 7:30 I left dead and His was at 17% left still from the previous day and when I left his was at 8%
    I dont know

  • Solved my iPhone 5 Battery Problems: Maybe it can help you!

Hi every one, I saw many topics regarding battery problems with the iPhone 5. I responded to one discussion describing what I did to solve the iPhone 5 battery dying fast on me. So I thought I'd make a discussion here to help out other users with the same problem.
I would have 25-30% drop with in the hour and all I did was text a couple of my friends. I was using an iPhone 4 for the longest time, and on that phone I was able to watch videos, listen to music and use all the other features of the phone. The battery still lasted me the whole day, I was getting  worried that I wouldn't be able to use the iPhone 5 the same with out it dying on me fast.
My friend suggested draining the battery and then charging the phone to see if any improvements were seen. I did that and I saw a small change in the battery strength. I drained the battery two more times, and that is when I saw a huge difference.
I use my Phone as my iPod when I work out, and I run continuous music on it for 1.5-2 hours straight, along with sending texts to my friends. In this duration I would only use 15-20% which was a huge improvement from before. I would say that the battery life was on par with my iPhone 4 battery! It is such a relief, now I can use my iPhone 5 to it's fullest potential without having to worry it'll die on me fast.
I recommend other iPhone 5 users try draining their batteries a couple of times before charging as well if they are experiencing problems.
    Hope this helps!
    Dylan

I would let the battery completely die before I would charge it again. I would keep 3g off and only turn it on if I'm going to use it and turn it off again. Because the phone uses more power for the 3g/4g that the battery dies even faster.
I text a lot to friends so I'm constantly texting through out the day and when I work out continously run music on it for close to 2hours. It would only drain 15-20% of the battery, which really is a huge improvement.
I also use Siri quite often through wifi and it barely uses any battery power. Try letting the phone die until it turns off a couple of times before you charge it. That is what I did before a friend requested doing that after I was getting fraustrated with the battery power.

  • Can you build a battery for iphone that will last till the end of the day?

Can you build a battery for iphone that will last till the end of the day?

No, I can't. I've never taken any classes in either electrical or chemical engineering.
While you're looking for someone who can, you may want to try searching the forums for the many other threads that give tips on extending your battery life (things like turning off Background Refresh). You may also want to look at battery cases such as those made by Mophie.
    Best of luck.

  • How can be sure if my iPhone 3G battery is dead or just needs a recharge?

How can be sure if my iPhone 3G battery is dead or just needs a recharge?

    Hi,
    Thanks for the fast reply!
Here is what happens, and I've tried out several Apple chargers.
Unplugged, the battery charge icon shows only a tiny red bar for a charge, but it will come on.
The battery icon then displays a charging "lightening bolt" symbol  showing charging when connected to any charger. But after a minute or two, the battery icon then changes to a "plugged in" symbol and the phone will no longer take a charge.  I can recycle through this same sequence by unplugging and plugging back in the phone to a charger, but after a minute or two, that's it.
