Can an ipod classic have two music libraries on it?

i have a new (late 2012) Ipod Classic. can u put 2 itunes libraries on it? i want both mine and my fiances libraries on my ipod.

On the condition that you havent purchased the music off itunes, you could migrate your fiance's library into yours, then make 2 seperate playlists - one for yourself, and one for your fiance. That's all i can really think of :\ Sorry if this hasnt solved your question

  • Is it possible to have two music libraries and eventually merge them?

I've got an old workhorse G4 desktop and a relatively new Aluminum laptop. I'm planning on buying an Intel desktop machine when they become available. In the meantime, I'm hoping to migrate everything to the laptop and use it exclusively. The problem is that the iPhoto and iTunes libraries are big and will get bigger.
Is there a way to have separate libraries on an external firewire disk and the internal (80 GB) drive on the laptop? So I'd be able to listen to music on the go and yet have access to all my music when I park the laptop at my desk and hook up peripherals (monitor, keyboard, mouse, printer, etc.)?
And...when I finally buy that screaming Intel desktop machine, with a big internal drive, can I merge all this material together again?
Or, put it more generally -- how do you use a laptop, when it doesn't have space for those digital media files that we have all come to love?
Thanks very much for any light anyone can shed.
    Steve

Yes, it is. Launch iTunes with the Shift key held down as needed, or use separate Windows user accounts.

  • I seem to have two music libraries

...one in Music>iTunes>iTunes Music, and Music> iTunes Media> Music.  Can I delete one of these, and if so which should I delete and how do I prevent this from happening again?   I'm running iTunes 10.5.3, OSX 10.6.8.

    Hi michael,
Don't delete any of these folders

Run the Consolidate command, which you can find at File > Library > Organize Library > Consolidate Files. Before you run it, look in iTunes Help at the article "Consolidating your library," so you can understand what it does.
and remember: always back up before you do things like this
(carbon copy cloner, super duper, etc.)
so you can revert if things go wrong.
    good luck

  • I have two macs. I have two itunes libraries. How can I sync my iphone with both

Itunes is driving me insane every single day now.
I have two macs so I obviously have two itunes libraries. I have purchased things on both my desktop and my laptop UNDER THE SAME ACCOUNT.
How Can I add/sync media from both without having to erase EVERYTHING. So ridiculous.
    Thanks

To share the iTunes content between your computers, just enable Home Sharing from iTunes > File > Home Sharing.
You'll still have to sync the iPhone with just one iTunes library because of the copyright restrictions that iTunes must follow.

I'm sorry I just saw the last post. I had two users on my hard drive, one for me and one for my daughter, but I am not sure what you mean by partioning my external????? I have heard the term before, but don't know how to do it. I am having serious crashing issues with this computer and believe I really need to do a clean install. I just want to make sure everything for both ipods is safe (is???? I think so, everything is......I hate when the English language does this to me!)

  • Can I have two different libraries for iTunes?

I would like to have two different libraries for iTunes. How can I do it?
    Regards.

To create or access a second (or more) library, hold down the Option key (or Shift key in Windows) when launching iTunes 7. In the resulting dialogue you will get the option to create a new library or navigate to the other Library: Using multiple iTunes libraries -Mac
Note: You can only have one Library open at a time and iTunes will default to the last library opened if you don't use the keyboard command to choose one.

I have an IPOD Classic with purchased music and I want to sync it with a different PC but I get the message your device is synced with another PC.  How do I resolve this issue? I don't have the previous PC.

I want to sync it with a different PC
On that PC, launch iTunes. From the menu bar top of your screen click Store / Authorize This Computer.

You seem to have tried everything, and you say it's syncing fine on your Dad's iMac, so I assume, you have also  done a Disk Diagnostic from an earlier post by tt2 and conclude that your iPod Hardisk is good.
You don't have to use it as a heavy paperweight, the problem is only using your Windows 7 machine for syncing.
In your troubleshooting steps, did you try to use another High-Speed USB 2.0 port, USB controller resource are very scarce, so if you use other USB devices, while syncing your iPod, it may just freeze.
Windows have a bad reputation for device conflict, so better don't connect other  USB devices, while syncing, better sync it while disconnected from Internet, stop antivirus just before you go to bed.
    Have a nice day!

  • Why won't contacts sync to iPod classic even though music and calendars do?

Why won't contacts sync to ipod classic even though music and calendars do?

I have found a way.  Not elegant, but it does work.
Itunes looks for a contact list on your mac.  But, if you are signed up for iCloud, it appears your contacts are actually on iCloud, not your Mac.  So, you see your address book (left column) shows headings for "on my mac" and for "iCloud".  If you select "on my mac", no contacts appear.
However, you can drag contacts or groups of contacts from the iCloud list to the on my mac list.  They will then sync to your iPod classic.
Of course, you'll have to periodically some housecleaning as you modify the contacts that are in the cloud, but it does work.

  • I have two Aperture Libraries and would like to sync specific folders from both of them to my iPad.

I have two Aperture libraries stored on an external hard drive. Using iTunes on my Mac Book Pro can I sync selected projects from both Libraries to the same iPad?

No you cannot. Each device can only be synced with one photo library - Aperture or iPhoto.
You could however merge the two libraries, if you need to sync with photos from both libraries.

I have two iPhoto libraries: one on the hard drive, and one on an external hard drive.  I cannot access the iPhoto library on the external hard drive.  Yes, it is plugged in!

How are you trying to access the EHD library?  Can you open it by launching iPhoto with the Option key held down and selecting the EHD library in the window that appears?

    Why?
If you are syncing separate iDevices, you can use the same library and sync different content
I don't know how to move between the two.  Please help?
Same way you created two library.
Hold Option. laucn iTunes but instead of selecting Create library..., select Choose library...

Drag the media folder from one over to an open iTunes window.  Go away and have a long lunch.  Of course if you have a lot of common content you will be spending your next vacation sorting out the duplicates.  Oh, you can search the Internet because I am sure somebody has some wonder tool that purportedly prevents duplicates, not that I would trust any automated method.  I always deal with duplicates one by one.
Consolidating Multiple iTunes Libraries - http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/consolidating-multiple-itunes -libraries-api1/ - Basically using consolidate/organize to make sure all your media are in one place, then copying media from a second library to the main one by simply adding the media as new files.
Commercial software that purportedly helps merge libraries (not a complete list, nor have I tried any of them):

  • Can the Ipod Classic hold uncompressed video?

Can an ipod classic hold an uncompressed video, say a .DV file or even mpeg-2, then somehow be hooked up to a tv and watched with no loss of quality?
I have little interest in watching movies on that little screen, but I'd like to store a couple movies to take over to a friend's house and play on the tv...
    thanks.

schmoel, you can't work with uncompressed stuff (see THIS)
However, there are some excellent file converters out there, specifically designed to output the iPod Classic format, and to choose whether you'll be watching on screen or TV.
    Personally, I use VisualHub
