Can an ipod only be linked with one library on itunes on one computer?

I have set up my ipod on one computer and downloaded a load of music on to it. now i want to put more music on from another computer but the computer is telling me that all the music i have on it already will be replaced by this new library from a different computer. Can't an ipod be linked with two different librarys without all music being deleted?

If you see Devices in the big list on the left-hand side of iTunes, it should show the name of your iPhone right below it. You can right-click (or hold ctrl and left click) on the name of the iPhone there, and choose "transfer purchases from iPhone".
If you're on iTunes 11, you won't see the big list of the left until you go to the View menu at the very top (where you see iTunes/File/Edit/View/etc) and choose Show Sidebar. Then do the same thing: right-click or ctrl and left-click on the iPhone's name below Devices and "transfer purchases from iPhone".
It'll ask you to authorize the computer for your Apple ID if you haven't yet; to do that, you just type your Apple ID and password in when it asks. If it says you are not authorized but doesn't automatically give you an option to do so, then you can go to the Store menu at the very top and choose "authorize this computer".

  • My laptop hard drive crashed - when I go to sync my iPhone it says that my phone is already synced with another computer and can only be synced with one computer at a time.

My Dell laptop hard drive crashed - when I go to sync my iPhone it says that my phone is already synced with another computer and can only be synced with one computer at a time. When I hit sync is says it will erase my phone and sync with the new computer which is blank. How do I get my phone to sync my contacts, pics, apps etc. over to my new hard drive without losing anything.

Yes, so what's confusing... Did you not restore the backup of your data, contacts, pics, apps, music, etc. to the new hard drive after you replaced it or reformatted it or whatever you did? If so, then you can just sync your data back.
If not, please try searching the forum. This has been addressed hundreds of times here.

  • I bought a new computer, and i have transfered everything using home share, file transfers, etc.. yet still when i go to sync, itunes tells me ipod can only be synced with one computer... is there a way to retire the relationship with the old computer?

i bought a new computer.  the itunes app allows for home shareing, file transfers, etc.. but i want to discontinue the syncing with the old computer and sync my ipod touch now only on my new system... but i cant seem to disconnect that old relationship at all.. when i try to syncit says that my ipod is already synced with another computer, do i want to discontinue that and only use the new informationon this computer?  i dont want to do that yet because it doesnt seem like everything has come over, and i am afraid of losing songs that i downloaded from cds, etc..

if you don't want to sync it because you don't think that everything has been transferred then i would check first if you can, before you commit to used only the data from your new computer.
though, im not sure if this is true, but i think that when you sync your ipod to a new computer it will take the items from your ipod and put it on itunes, like when you purchase something on your ipod and it gets automatically transfered, but don't take my word for it.

  • HT1386 How can I sync only selected playlists from my library in iTunes to iPhone?

Option to sync only selected playlists is grayed out in iTunes for my iPhone. How can I make it so I don't have to sync my entire library?

    know this might sound silly
    but make sure that
    1) sync music is checked
    2) you have playlist with songs in them
    3) your songs have some sort of sorting form on them (artist, genre, album, etc.)
    also try
rebooting pc and device and reconnecting
if all else fails, redownload itunes

  • Can I download an update on with one computer and install it using another?

I want to update my Touch to 3.0 but my Mac at home that the Touch syncs with has a dial up connection so there is no way I can download the update- it's too big. Is it possible to download the update at work on a Windows machine and then somehow transfer it to my Mac and install the update?

I have the same problem. I wish to download the update for a friend who only has dialup and has tried and failed to download the update himself.
I'm hoping that the answer has changed (or will, Apple)??
Alternatively, can he take his iPod Touch to an Apple Centre and have it updated there?

  • 2nd gen ipod shuffle will charge with one computer (vista) but not the other computer (windows 8).  Please help!

My 2nd gen ipod shuffle will charge on my old vitsta computer but not my new windows 8 computer. Does anyone know why that might be? The new computer recognizes the ipod and I can see everything on it, change settings, etc. it just won't charge. Is there a reason as to why this should be happening?

Just bought a refurbished 2nd generation ipod
shuffle. I am running the very latest version of OS X
and iTunes on an iBook G3 600 mhz with the slower USB
ports, not 2.0 ports. The ipod mounts and is
regognized by itunes, but I cannot seem to register
the ipod from itunes, it always has an error message
when I submit to register (all forms are filled out
correctly). The registration window in iTunes shows
that this ipod is formatted for Windows (from the
previous owner I assume) and may be causing my
    problems?
No. ALL shuffles are FAT32 format.
The other problem is that it will not sync and
transfer any music from itunes library. I am trying
to transfer simple mp3 files that should be compliant
with the ipod specs. No luck even after multiple
restarts on the ipod. Any help would be appreciated!
    Thank you.

  • How can I see ONLY dead files in my library (newest Itunes update)

I want to find all of my dead files in one place so I can either delete or find them. I keep seeing ways to use smart playlist to find dead files, but when I try to do that, the Smart Playlist options won't let me. I can only assume it's because there has been at least one update since those answers were posted. Can someone help me out? I have a lot of files to go through.

This technique should help you identify which entries need to be removed or repaired.
    Lost & Found Playlists
Create a playlist called Found, select everything in Music and drag it into the Found playlist (it may take some time to count the tracks that are to be dropped). Create a smart playlist called Lost matching All the rules Playlist is Music and Playlist is not Found. Your lost tracks will be in this playlist.
Or try iTunes Folder Watch with its option to check for dead tracks on startup.

  • Reconciling Mulitiple iPod Touchs with ONE computer

This Christmas was an "iPod Touch" Christmas for the family. 5 iPods, and we don't have 5 computers. When we register multiple iPods with the same computer, the email and password that shows up so the kids can downoad aps on their individual iPods is the email / password of the FIRST person that registered.
Don't tell me that Apple expects that if you get 5 iPods you're going to have to have 5 computers to be able to register them all correctly.
    What's the solution for this?

You can sync as many ipods as you like with one computer.

  • Can you have 2 different iPhones on one computer?

Can I have 2 different iphones linked to one computer?

Yes, you can.  Be sure to give each a distinctive name so you can differentiate between them.

I have a new iphone and I want to give my other phone to my girlfriend can I set up 2 accounts on 1 computer

How to use multiple iPods, iPads, or iPhones with one computer
Simplest way is to create a New User Account.
Each user will then have their own iTunes library..

  • I just bought a new computer, now itunes tells me I can only sync with one computer.  It only offers me the choice to erase and sync.  I do not want to erase my ipod, I just want my music on the new computer.  Can't I just transfer the songs from the ipod

I just bought a new computer.  Itunes only offers me the option of erase and sync, as I can only have it sync'd with one computer.  I want to move my music to this computer from my ipod.  Is this possible, or do I have to go back to my cds and upload everything from there?  I just want to be able to move my music from my ipod to the new computer.

You need to transfer your iTunes Library from the old computer to the new one - then you can carry on syncing as normal. You can't move non-purchased music from an iPod to iTunes using iTunes. For purchased music, choose iTunes > File > Transfer purchases...

  • TS1474 I changed my computer (old one is dead!) and now when I want to sync the contents of my iPod onto my new computer, it tells me I can only sync with one computer (i.e. the one that died!) How do I get around this??

I changed my computer (old Dell is dead!) and now when I want to sync the contents of my iPod onto my new computer (a Sony Vaio), it tells me I can only sync with one computer (i.e. the one that died!) How do I get around this??

-Transfer iTunes purchases to the compuer by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
    - Transfer other music by using a third-party program like one of those discusssed here:
    Copy music
    - Connect the Ipd to the computer and make a backup by right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up
    - Restore the iPod from that backup
Note that the backup that iTunes makes does not contain synced media like apps and music.

  • I moved by iTunes files to an external drive because I was changing computers. I then moved the files to the new computer. My iPod is not linking with the files on the computer.  What can I do?

I moved my iTunes files from my old computer to an external hard drive.  I then moved those files to the new computer. My computer and iPad are not linking up (recognizing each other?).  I installed the latest version of iTunes onto the new computer to see if that would help.  It did not--I got the message that an iPad can only be linked up with one computer and the new download would not work with this iPod.  So the iTunes' library and my iPod are not connecting, and I have no way of installing or removing new songs onto my iPad.  What should I do to correct this?

Sorry, I had a typo.  The last sentence should have read "iPod" (iPad):  So the iTunes' library and my iPod are not connecting, and I have no way of installing or removing new songs onto my iPod.  What should I do to correct this?

  • GroupLayout can only be used with one Container at a time

    Dear all,
I am a beginner so please don't throw rocks at me...
I have created two frames with NetBeans. One is the main frame (extends from JPanel) and the other frame I put it to be started when pressing a button from the main frame (the second frame extends from JFrame). Both frames are created using the designer in NetBeans, so the code for creating the GUI is automatically generated by NetBeans, so both frames use the same layout (GroupLayout).
Here is the code of the button from the main frame to start the second one:
    private void manageCustomersActionPerformed(java.awt.event.ActionEvent evt) {
// TODO add your handling code here:
CustomerGUI custGUI1=new CustomerGUI();//CustomerGUI is the second frame
            custGUI1.setVisible(true);
}When I press this button from the main frame I get this runtime exception: Exception in thread "AWT-EventQueue-0" java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: GroupLayout can only be used with one Container at a time. The second frame is not opened.
    How should I handle this?
What I want to do: I want to have a main frame, from which I can start additional ones (the main frame must be always opened, while the additional ones can be closed after performing certain actions). I read a little about internal frames and I think this can be a solution, but I must edit the existing design...
    Thank you
    With respect,
    Don

There are those that maintain that JFrame should never be extended. I am not convinced, but most cases where a JFrame is extended would be better coded as simply configuring the JFrame within the main(). GUI builders such as found in NetBeans seem to extend JFrame as a matter of course.I too am not rigorous or religious about this either, but try to adhere to this as a matter of practicality and convenience, I find that if I don't extend a JComponent but rather use composition rather than inheritance, it's much easier to use objects of my class when programming in Eclipse. For instance in Eclipse (and in most IDEs), if I type my object name and then a period, it will show all of the method's available for me to use on this object. If I subclass JPanel or JFrame, I'll see a gazillion methods most I don't want to see, and thus most are clutter. On the other hand if I use composition, I'll only see a small number of methods and these will be only the methods that I want to see and need to use.
