Can an iTunes U instructor create both a public (institution-affiliated) course and then a private course without using two separate Apple IDs?

if one of my instructors/contributors has a number of public courses published but still wants to post a few private invite-enrollment-only courses, can they use the one account or do they have to set the private course(s) up using a different Apple ID?

Thank you for adding the ability to manage sections and divisions! This could not have come at a better time for us.
I have found a few discrepancies between the XSD and the actual behavior. Perhaps you could shed some light on these differences:
1. DeletePermission is documented, both in the PDF and in the XSD, as taking a ParentHandle and a Permission. However, this does not work - I get the following error:
No Credential node specified in XML at #document-->ITunesUDocument-->DeletePermission
Sending a ParentHandle and a Credential (string) does work, however.
2. AddTrack expects a property called Title:
Property Title is absent, but required at element #document-->ITunesUDocument-->AddTrack-->Track
This property does not seem to be documented anywhere.
3. What do the Destructive and MergeByHandle options mean for MergeTrack? Tracks do not seem to have any children for which these options would be relevant.
4. The XSD for Section elements does not allow children to be Division elements. This appears to contradict the data model.
5. Similarly, Section and Course do not allow Permission elements according to the XSD, but Site, Group, and Division do. And Division does not include Handle, Identifier, or ShortName either.
6. What are all the elements that can have an AllowSubscription property? The docs are vague about this.
And one last request:
Can the error checking be improved for content uploads? Right now, if anything goes wrong, I just get a response of:
Which is not very helpful. One case that will produce this message is if the Content-type/Content-disposition headers for the MIME envelope are unquoted, even though this is technically legal.
Thanks!

  • HT204053 What are the pros and cons of 1) choosing to use the SAME Apple ID for iCloud services on one side, and purchases on the iTunes Store, App Store, and iBookstore, on the other side; or 2) to have and use two separate Apple Ids for these "two sides

All is in the title, so I repeat it below with a better identation.
What are the pros and cons of

    P.S.
I have loads and loads of free podcasts in iTunes in my iMac, that are certainly more thant the 5 gigas the iCloud provides for free, so I don't want those to go to the cloud. But this is perhaps a different question...
Also need to mention that I have itunes on a mac, a pc and an iphone.
Sorry to look so silly with this question, but I don't get the "big picture".

You need to create a user account for your wife (or yourself depending on who has the current user account). When syncing, each of you should sign in as a separate user, login to iTunes and then sync. I had this problem when my sister got an iPhone. When we did her initial sync, everything on my iPhone showed up on hers. Apple gave me this solution.

I have iTune accounts under two separate Apple IDs.  Can I merge them into one account under one ID?  I have purchased music and video in both.

No, it is not possible to merge accounts.  Choose one as the primary account and keep a local backup of all purchases so you don't get into the mess where you encounter a 90 day freeze on re-downloading past purchases from multiple accounts.

All apps and purchases are linked to your apple ID, so you can't share them across 2 devices that are using different apple id's, it won't work. the purchases that are on your mac at the moment will only work with the apple id they were brought with.
the only thing thats possible to share is purchased music. you have to first covert it to mp3 within itunes, then your bf can import it into his own itunes library and sync with his phone.

Have the project, events and media on one drive which is common to both macs.
You can download FCP X to both macs using the same Apple ID that it was purchased with.

  • I appear to have two separate Apple IDs and have purchased music under both.  Is there any way to consolidate the accounts into one?

I appear to have two separate Apple IDs and to have purchased music under both of them (one is my husband's email account, the other is mine).  Is there a way to consolidate them, or is it possible to make the purchases made under two separte IDs downloadable on the same device(s)?

Not at this time. There is no way to merge two Apple IDs or be signed into the iTunes Store with more than one Apple ID at a time on an iOS device. However, you can USB sync the music to more than one device at a time, no problem. As long as all the music is on the same computer.

  • Can I use two differnet apple ids on the same device

My husband and I each have our own Apple IDs.  Currently my husband uses his apple ID on our iPad and I use my apple ID on our Mac Book Pro, is it possible for us to interchange our Apple IDs on each device so as to share music and apps on both devices?

  • (Possible solution found) Can my wife and I use the same Lion DL even with two separate Apple IDs?

EDIT: Sorry; original search terms didn't give me my answer. I think I found a solution though. Will update whether it works out.
My wife and I each have our own MBPs, and we each have our own Apple IDs that pre-existed our marriage. Apple doesn't make it easy to have one family account with subaccounts managed underneath this, and we don't want each others iTunes purchases populating our libraries.
Is it possible for me to DL and install Lion with my Apple ID, copy it to hers, and install it there with my same info yet still allow her to use her own ID for other things? Or will we need separate IDs for each download?

  • Can I use two different apple IDs on my iPad, one from the US and one from France? I have tried creating different logins but I received a notice that said if I used the french store that I would not be able to login into my other account for 90 days??

I am trying to use both a french and US account so that I can utilize different apps from each store.  Is this possible, and if so am I able to go back and forth by loging in and out?

You must be within the Country with a Valid Billing Address and Credit Card for that Country to use the iTunes Store of that Country...

I have a band's album but they are relasing a deluxe album on presale but only for UK.

  • Can I have 2 iPhones with 2 separate Apple IDs access the same Library on a single computer?

    Here's our current set-up:
    - Dad has a laptop with iTunes and his music, iPhone and iPad all running off of his Apple ID.
    - Mom has a laptop with iTunes and her music, and iPhone running off of her Apple ID.
    - 2 kids with new iPods that we haven't set up yet (getting them for Christmas)
We would like to create a SINGLE library with all family music and media on Dad's laptop, then use his laptop to sync all music, movies, audiobooks, podcasts, and other media libraries so that we can each pick and choose what gets synced to our devices without messing up any other data that is personal such as apps (with embedded personal profiles such as Evernote and Facebook), bookmarks, photos, iMessage, iCloud, etc.
We assume that we need to maintain our two separate Apple IDs, and potentially set up some for the kids so that they can have some personal apps on their iPods, but if that is not the case we would appreciate some direction.
Thanks. If you can offer a solution please be specific in the steps required.

Hi, we don't have two iPhones in the family as yet but as I understand it each device can have separate settings for syncing calendars and contacts. For example my iPhone syncs these over the air with the Exchange server at work so if/when my wife gets an iPhone it would be easy to have hers sync to Outlook on our computer
To make sure apps purchased on one device don't inadvertently merge with others turn off Automatically sync new apps from the apps tab when you connect your device.
The Apple support document How to use multiple iPods with one computer suggests a number of ways for managing the media content. I use method two (Sync with selected playlists) with a slight twist. Rather than regular playlists I set the grouping field to indicate which users should receive which tracks and create smart playlists based on the content of this field.
    e.g.
"Alice's Tracks" is "Grouping contains Alice" + "Kind contains audio"
"Bob's Videos" is "Grouping contains Bob" + "Kind does not contain audio"
Tracks that both Alice & Bob want on their iPods have the grouping set to "Alice/Bob"
    etc.
I currently manage our family's five iDevices using this system, each getting a different selection to suit their tastes and the capacity of their device. An advantage of using the grouping field is that it is stored in file tags (for non-wav audio files anyway) so that it is relatively easy to recreate the playlists should the iTunes library get trashed and need rebuilding. Also useful if you move files about manually as playlist membership is preserved when you delete & re-import the tracks.
So far we have managed everything with a single Apple ID, but that will probably change as the kids leave home. Managing app updates from multiple IDs is a pain as you have to manually sign in to each account in turn, however there are other benefits to each user having their own account.

  • The bookmarks created on my new MacBook are showing on my wife's MacBook. We are using two different Apple ID's. What are we doing wrong?

My wife has had her MacBook for about a year. She was originally using Apple ID we can call #1. She later created and began using Apple ID #2. I just got a MacBook and began using Apple ID #1. When I set up my bookmarks in Safari, what I thought were her old bookmarks were there. When I deleted them, while we were on two separate Apple IDs, I deleted hers. (Fortunately, I backed them up first.) Now when I add bookmarks they show on her separate Apple ID. I checked and it seems that she is signed out and the old ID has even been deleted as an option on her Mac. Because of my work we need to keep these things separate. What are we missing?

In System Preferences>iCloud if you click Account Details do you each see your own unique Apple ID?
