I have created a DMG file with encryption and password. That secures it before I open it.

I'm not sure I understand the question, so let's see if this hits the mark... When you open an encrypted .dmg file, you must supply the password. From then on, as long as it appears as a "disk" on the desktop, you can access that disk and all the files on it without a password. When you're done, you drag the "disk" (not the .dmg file!) to the Trash to "eject" it. At this point, it's locked up again, and you'll have to enter the password to open it again.
Does that answer the question? If not, you'll have to be more specific.

I upgraded my computer to 10.4.6 and now I can't open any disk images. I checked my disk in Disk Utility and it said it had errors, so I booted from my installation disk to fix the drive. That worked for about a day, and then the same thing happened again. It says my disk is fine, so I don't think I need to go through the trouble of rebooting and repairing it.
Any suggestions?

Have you repaired permissions on your start-up drive using Disk Utility in addition the disk check and repair that you did? By the way, what kind of errors did DU find when you checked and repaired your disk? Did it complete the repair?

Can't open disk image file

I saved my iDVD project as a disk image onto my hard drive. All of the encoding took place as if I were burning it to a DVD disk. After the encoding was finished, two icons popped up on my desktop: One with a .img extension, and one with a hard drive type image with only the project name and no extension. When I try to open either one of them, my project does not come up. The .img file is totally empty. The other file, the one named "my project name", has an Audio_TS folder which is empty and a Video-TS folder that contains six files, all of which require a "choose application" to open. I tried iDVD as an application, but that didn't work. How do I get my iDVD project to open so that I can burn a DVD disk from it? Right now, the two icons on my desktop are useless.

This is the mounted disk image file and can be played with Apple's DVD Player application. BTW, the AUDIO_TS folder Should be empty - it's not used in video DVDs.

Can't open Disk Images

For the past couple of weeks, I've noticed that I'm no longer able to mount Disk Images on my iBook. When I try, I get this message. Of course the name of the image file changes to whatever image it is I'm using.
Anyone know what may be causing this?

Yesterday night I had a audio update available which I did. It required a restart. From then on I get a globe diaplayed for about a minute before I get the apple symbol which signifies that the OS is getting loaded. If the screen saver gets active I cannot see the desktop because the display doesn't lit up.

Can't open Disk Images (again)

Well, it looks like I might have hit the "Solved" button on this post a little to soon. As the problem is back, and repairing permissions doesn't seem to be helping this time.
Any ideas?

Hmm, strange... it seems to have started working again on its own. I thought I was going to be in a real quandary when I downloaded the update and it was a disk image.
I'll post to this thread again if the problem resurfaces.

Hi, I can't open a silverlight dmg file to watch netflix. I am running Lion on my 2.66ghz iMac i5 with 10.7.3. I can download and install silverlight but when I try to open the file, it always opens the Terminal window. Please Help.

It sounds like all your launch services file associations have somehow been corrupted. I suggest your reset the launch services bake to their initial default settings.
The easiest way for you to do this is probably to get a maintenence utility like OnyX (download the Lion version for your case). It has, among many other things, a way to rebuild the launch services. Launch OnyX. It will ask for your admin password and a window like below will be dispallyed.
As you can see from the above picture in OnyX you select Maintenance, Rebuild tab, check the LaunchServices checkbox, and click the Execute button (not shown here but it's at the bottom of the window).
Note, the above shows the window for the Snow Leopard version of OnyX. I don't know if the Lion version is different since I don't use Lion.

Is there anyway to obtain a disk image (dmg) for an app from the App Store?
I need to obtain an dmg for a small App that is only available from the App store, but I need to put it on a Snow Leopard machine that does not have App Strore installed (and cannot be upgraded further).

Any Mac with Snow Leopard can be updated to 10.6.8, which includes the MAS. Just download the 10.6.8 update combo and install it on that Mac.

You also do not need a dmg, just copy the app from one Mac to another. Unless the app has an installer MAS apps are simple drag & drop installation apps. If it has an installer drag & drop the installer and then run it on the Mac where you want the app.
Most MAS apps require a minimum of Mac OS X 10.6, and many require 10.6.6, 10.6.7, or 10.6.8 to run.

i just tried to make a boot DVD for Solaris 9 9/05 from a image file (.iso)
the iso file size is about 4.383GB.
tried with the nero express with the option copy image to disk.
succefully burnt the details, even the expected .flar file exists in the burnt DVD.
But when i tried in the SUN machine E2900, i got the following error,
Rebooting with command: boot cdrom
ERROR: disk-label do_read: Short disk read
Can't open disk label package
ERROR: Can't open boot-device
- I guess the fashion in which we are writing an image file to the DVD matters. if somebody faced the same situation, please do suggest me how to proceed ?

I'm installing a Tape in my Sparc 5. The system works whit Solaris 2.4.
When I boot the system without the tape it starts normally. But, the problem is when I put the tape... and I have this message:

I check with the commnad 'devalias' and all the paths are ok. I probe when 2 different tapes and I format the disk using the command format booting the system without the tape . But I've the same error when the tape is connected.

Can't open RAW images in Photoshop

I purchased a new computer. It runs 64 bits. I have CS4. Since uploading it to my computer, I can not open RAW images. I have downloaded the most recent updates.
I have been using the 32 bit photoshop because I could not get my NIK filters to work in 64 bit. But I can't open any of my RAW images. I can't open them in either 32 or 64 bit.
I have version 5.0.0.178 of Camera Raw. I only know this because I can see it under "About filer.... Camera Raw". I cant find any camera raw filters in adobe/plug-ins in either version of photoshop. I have a huge photoshoot tomorrow. I NEED to open RAW images. HELP!! Regular Support is down for the next few days.

The D610 didn't get out-of-the-box RAW support until Photoshop CC.
You can either upgrade to CC or use the DNG Converter to convert and open your DNGs in CS5.

The first thing I did was check the file associations which, indicating “Photoshop”, I assumed was OK.
But then, motivated by your suggestion, I checked more carefully and found that “Photoshop” was pointing to an earlier version.
Next I “browsed” and reset the association to the Photoshop CS6 .exe file and now images in Bridge open in Photoshop just like they used to.

FileVault can't copy disk image?

Hi Folks,
I wanted to enable FileVault on my computer but it keeps failing when I try to initiate it. I get a message saying that it can't copy disk image. What can I do about that?

I had this camera, Canon 50d, for little more than two years.
Now it is time to start working with Raw image and can't open the image with Photoshop.
But I could open with EOS utility but want to work with Photoshop.

Photoshop CS2 will never directly open a Canon EOS-50D raw file. The raw files from every camera are different and your camera was designed after the Photoshop CS2 Camera Raw application stopped receiving updates.

That said, there is a free solution that will allow you to open your images indirectly.
Download and install the latest version of the free Adobe DNG Converter:

Whenever you have a folder full of raw 50D images run the DNG Converter on the folder to convert all the files to DNG format. You will have to select the proper compatibility setting.
You can now open the DNG files with Photoshop CS2's Camera Raw converter.
Just as an aside, the Camera Raw converter from the latest version of Photoshop delivers images of higher quality, so you may want to consider moving up to Photoshop CS6. Unfortunately you will have to pay full price; there's no Photoshop CS2 -> CS6 upgrade discount.
