Can and Can't login to AIM

I've upgraded to a 27" iMac and am having problems with iChat and AIM. When I first got the new iMac I was able to login to AIM using iChat. Now I can't -- it keeps reporting that I'm using the wrong password. BUT, I CAN still login to AIM using my old iMac and the same PW on the same Network, so I know it's not the PW [the PW works on my iPhone, too].
I'm using the same settings on each machine. I've changed the port to 443 on the new iMac [same as the old one], I've followed the advice I've seen in other posts and confirmed that the Keychain has the correct PW and I deleted com.apple.ichat.AIM.plist.
I even checked the Firewall setting to make sure that signed software can receive incoming connections.
Is there anything else I can try?

Any AIM valid account/Screen Name which in this case includes those from Apple (MobileMe and @mac.com IDs) will report there is a second Login if in the iChat > Preferences > Accounts you have not got Allow Multiple Logins ticked.
A Multiple Login can be caused by a AIM Express Login with the same Screen Name or from a Second computer using iChat or any other AIM client.
Of course a Phone that can login to AIM messaging of any sort can also be Second Login.
It is strange that you had the message show up on the computer that was already Logged in.
The Presumption is you get the message at work for Instance if you leave your Home computer logged in or vice versa and you get the message on the computer/device you are trying to Login.
The Message from AIMSysteMessage (the Screen Name that sends you the Message) allows you to type a " 1 " as the response and will then log out the First computer/device (if you type " 2 " then the current attempt to login is ended).
Also logging on to the AIM web site and not specifically logging out may get the default Login period to kick in (two weeks) and may also be the cause of a Second Login.
Another cause may be using sites like Meebo and BeBo and other social sites that allow Linking to your Buddy Lists.
If one iChat is reporting that the @me.com name is logged in twice then it will be that Screen Name not the plain AIM one.
Other things to look at.
On the new computer that is using the MobileMe name what is the Login port that the Screen Name is using ?
iChat > Preferences > Accounts > Server Settings
What ports is the AIM Name managing to Login with on the other Computer ?
Are you setting the Screen Name to allow Multiple Logins ?

Have a Friends and Family plan. I have unlimited data and want to keep it. Questions on what I can and can not do with account changes.

So I am on Friends and Family 2000minutes and unlimited Text.
4 phones.
My phone has Unlimited Data and Hotspot
Other 3 do not have any data.
I am curious what I can do and can't do that will keep keep the plan as is and not force things to share everything.
I am allowed to have 5 phones under this plan. I am curious about adding and deleting phones.
I did try and add a 5th phone. When I tried to activate a 5th phone online it would not let me do it. Tried to get me to change plans.
Here are a few scenarios that I see coming up in the future.
I would like to add a 5th phone. My father has an account and I would like to roll him into my plan instead of his own account. I have already done this once before many years ago with no problem with 2 of the lines that I currently have. Is this possible or is that enough to trigger the move share everything scenario.
Second. how about removing a line from my plan?
One of my numbers is for an 18YO that wants to be more independent and have their own account. Can I down the road either transfer that line and number to its own account which would be share everything (I do understand that). Or can I delete that line from the account without triggering the share everything scenario?
Also it seems when I look online I can change data plans currently three phones are on data block. Can I actually change them to a data plan within the Friends and family or is the Share everything scenario triggered. What about if I change them to a smart phone from their basic/feature phone. I know I can't get unlimited data but can I still get them on my friends and family tiered data plan?

yes to everything; you can add a line (up to 5 total for Family Share), drop a line, upgrade a basic line to a smartphone (and then add a tiered data plan) and stay on your current calling plan ... it may be easier done in your local Corporate Verizon store, though ... just be sure they don't try to switch you to Share Everything if that's not what you want

Connecting to store -- I CAN and CAN'T

This is a new problem of only a few weeks. iTunes has worked well for years previously.
I can do a search for a specific band and can connect to the store with no problem. When I try to access the home page, however, I get a message that says "temporarily unavailable." It's been like this for weeks. It can't be unavailable that long -- and besides, I CAN connect if I do a search.
The problem is really that the last time I used iTunes I was previewing music from another country (which often has different selections than my own.) Now that I'd like to return to my own country's home page and move on to make some purchases I can't, because I'm stuck in another country's store which, I would change if I could access the home page.
Any idea how this is possible? -- Connection to the store through the search function but no access to the home page?
** I'm running iTunes 7.7.1 with OS 10.3.9 (I can't update iTunes to a higher version.) I have tried trashing the prefs and also re-installing to no avail.

I'm afraid that you almost certainly will need to upgrade to a newer version of iTunes. iTunes 7.7. will no longer work correctly with the iTunes Store; there have been too many changes to the Store since iTunes 7.7 was current. And that of course will require that you upgrade your computer to at least Mac OS X 10.4.11, which is required for any newer version of iTunes.
Someone else here may have an idea that would get you back to the correct country's home page, but even if you can, iTunes 7.7 just isn't going to work correctly with the current iTunes Store.

Can and can't do's Illustrator Flash

I've been asked to design a tutorial on design graphics for a Flash game using illustrator CS4. My main iproblem is that i can design what i need in Illustrator but it does import into Flash too well...the main issues i'm having are...
1) Exporting that image with the gaussian blur effect as a .swf from Illustrator and importing it into Flash changes it to a Bitmap - i need it as Vector (.swf) - is this possible?
2) Applying a clipping mask in Illustrator. An image (.swf) exported from Illustrator with a clipping mask doesn't import into Flash properly..it's just a series of shapes and paths, does anyone know how to import an object with a clipping mask into Flash.

You need your objects to be symbols and I would say the best way is to save your document as an ai fie and import that into Flash.
You will be able to easily edit the symbols which will maintain their effects. Or copy and paste.

Unanswered questions about EXACTLY can and can't be done with Cinema 4D lite?

Hey all,
So I've looked over all the info I could find about C4D Lite in relation to AE CC, but it just seems to me that there a few questions that aren't answered.
Can we create a 3D object in C4D L and then use it in ANOTHER context, outside of AE? The app itself can't be opened outside AE, but what about the objects that are created in it? Do they "exist" independently? Can I take an object and open it in Poser 9, for example? (This can be done with anything created in regular C4D.)
and
Does the lite version work with the regular C4D Poser plugin? (I think I kind of can guess what the answer most likely is to this one, but it doesn't hurt to ask...)

Thanks-- I really appreciate hearing from someone who knows! There is not a video on Youtube, a discussion on any board I have been able to find, or an article I have seen anywhere that explains these simple things. They're *also* not in the Maxon comparison charts of C4D regular and lite, and they really get into details on other things. Nor is any of this in the Maxon FAQ. Honestly, I don't think it should be so hard to find all this out... but at least it's somewhere in the help files, and thanks again for the pointer!

What I can and can't back up to icloud on my PC

I'm not sure if this is the right place but thought i'd start here.
I think, from what I can see from others posts, you can only back up music purchased through itunes to icloud, is this correct?
Can you back up documents through itunes / icloud?
I would like to get an ipad, yet my normal computer is a PC laptop. If I back up to icloud will i only see purchased music and pictures on the ipad? I know you can't plug external devices such as USB's or hard drives into an ipad so is there any other way of getting everything that's on the laptop, visible on the ipad (mainly as I want to stop using the laptop).

ahahaaa....found it. On the start up page to the left is a list of programs on Windows.
Click onto all programs....then icloud and up pops calender, contacts,find my phone,icloud ,photo stream etc.Click onto any of those and boom boom your in.
I tried to access icloud by opening it up on the start up page then hitting icloud help and then find my phone and it always turns to the grey screen and the search engine going no where.

Airport Express can and can't find Base Station...

...I'll explain: When I am booted in the regular internal boot drive (OS X 10.5.5) my Express finds the Base Station just fine; but, I want to update a boot partition on an external drive which currently has 10.5.2, and when I boot up in THAT partition the Express can't find the Base Station. The only utility on that partition is "Airport Utility" and when I run it no Base Station shows up. Anyone ever experience this? Thanks for any suggestions.

Hello -- I solved my problem. While booted up in the OS that WOULD go online, I downloaded the "Airport Utility for Leopard" utility, then copied the installer onto the OS partition that WOULD NOT go online. Then I restarted in the boot partition # 2 (the one that wouldn't go online/ wasn't seeing my AirPort Base Station) and installed the newer utility. Then I ran the utility and, after a few clicks, THIS boot partition finally saw the Base Station and the AirPort Express, and therefore was able to get online. Thanks again for help.

Things an engineer can and can't do

Hi, all. Was hoping someone could help me with some clarification.
I arranged to get BT Infinity installed for my elderly mother who is recovering from a brain tumour and who has very limited mobility. I couldn't be there for the appointment because of work, but the instructions I received simply said to make sure there was a working power supply nearby which there was, so I wasn't too worried.
I rang her during the appointment and talked with the engineer. First of all he wasn't too sure where the master socket was and said he probably couldn't do it today. I asked about him fitting one as part of the service, which I'd heard posted on here before. Then he said it was maybe behind the cabinet that my mum's photos sit on. He said he wasn't allowed to move this.
Now the cabinet isn't particularly big, are engineers not allowed to move any furniture at all? My mum obviously couldn't do it, so I suggested my burly neighbour could do it since I knew he was in at the time and had no problem helping her out.
10 Minutes later I get a text saying appointment was having to be re-arranged. I phoned my mum and the engineer apparently just said that he'd have to come back, wasn't interested in getting the neighbour to help. He didn't even set up a return visit date or anything, the onus seems to be on my mother to chase up this new appointment, nothing has even been posted on her order tracker.
All in all I'm pretty unhappy with the way things went. The engineer seemed like he'd decided he wasn't going to be able to do it as soon as he arrived, first the problems with even finding the master socket and then the furniture.
Is this normal? I do understand health and safety issues but the engineer seemed particularly unhelpful.

The master socket was never actually mentioned when I ordered, it was all done online. The only thing the emails etc said was to make sure there was power available nearby.
The main problem I have is that in my opinion the engineer seemed to think this was going to be a bit of work and was immediately trying to reschedule it. The first thing he said to me on the phone was that he couldn't find/there was no master socket and would need a new appointment, when I had read that putting one in was part of the serviice (and I thought it was behind the cabinet). So it sounded like he was trying to write it off already.
So I mentioned this and he then said he couldn't move the cabinet. I agree you have to be careful in this litigous day and age but I had a neighbour who would do it no problem and it just seemed like the engineer wasy trying to get to his next appointment and had already decided it was not going to happen, pretty shortly after arrival.
I think that on a different day with a different engineer this would have been taken care of, and thats what's so frustrating

Freezing EXS Instrument Tracks...can and can't do it??

Hi everybody. Got a new question for anyone and everyone:
In a couple of my songs I have to option (present button) of freezing EXS instrument tracks and in others I do not. The newer songs I've made and saved that were created by draggin in .band files allow me to freeze EXS tracks while others I created using my autoload do not. (I don't know if this is the case across the board but it seems to be a pattern...)
Is my autoload messing stuff up? Generally am I supposed to be able to freeze EXS? Makes sense that I would.....

Have you selected multi-channel EXS24s? As far as I know it's not possible to freeze these. Worth a look.

Just bought a Macbook and can't get on AIM via IChat

New to the Apple Macbook community.
For some reason my brand spanking new MacBook won't connect to my AIM account from iChat. I'm using all the right log on info... Any ideas how I can fix the problem?

Hi,
In iChat > Preferences > Accounts.
You account/Screen Name is spelt properly ?
The password shows in the Keychain as the "right" one ? (Use the Next Step section)
With the same details you can log in to any AIM Page or AIM Express ?
If the above check out then is the Mac Firewall ON?
System Preferences > Security > Fireweall tab/button
If it is ON, go to the Advanced Button
Is Allow Signed apps enabled ?
If so, is iChat in the List ?
A web browser login to AIM will use ports 80 and possibly 443 for securely logging in.
AIM based apps use port 5190 be default.
iChat therefore will tend to use this port and even if ichat is allowed through the firewall then it may not be allowed through your Routing device.
Go to the iChat Preferences > Accounts
Click on the Server Settings tab/button
As you can't log in you should be logged out and the text you see should be dark (and Editable)
Change the port to 443.
Go to the Account Info tab and tick the "Use this Account" check box to Log in.
If that works it is most likely that the router is the issue.
This will let you Text chat as well as Login.
File Transfers and Video (or Audio Only) chats will still be beyond you until you open ports in the Router.
Log on to the Router and check every menu and link (tab and Menu or whatever your device has) to find if it has UPnP
Enable that (Apply/Save Settings)
You should now be good to go.

The new but not-ready-for-prime-time autocomplete method searches for matches that contain the entered text, not just ones that begin with the string. Your options are:
1) type in longer strings that narrow the search
2) use an add-on to search just the beginnings:

I would start your troubleshooting with the article below for issues of not being able to log in to your Mac. Start with booting up in to Safe Boot as well as resetting PRAM on your Mac. If that does not work, then verify the hard drive with booting to the Recover HD and go to Disk Utility to verify it.

It sounds like you essentially have a new computer and unless you restored from a backup your iTunes library would be empty. You can transfer your iTunes purchases from your iPod to the computer by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
SInce you changed syncing computers. after you move the stuff you need to restore the iPod to factory defaults and sync the stuff back to your iPod. If you had the iPod backup file you could restore from backup.
If you have non-iTunes pruchases you can copy them to your computer by using one of the third-party programs discussed in this previous discussion:

I inadvertently set up a new account on an android and it doesn't match the ID for a Nook. I cannot share library books between the devices, and I can't remember the login I used for the nook. The nook books appear on my bookshelf from the library, but when I try to download to my android, it won't allow it as it is set up as a different account. The library can't help me and Barnes & Noble can't help me. I need support from Adobe to fix my login.
