Can antivirus on windows detect mac virus?

I scanned my OS X system in windows bootcamp and it's detect virus on my OS X system.

You may have better luck posting on the Boot Camp (not bootcamp) forum. However if you installed the application while you were running Win 7 in Boot Camp then it would have ONLY installed in Windows 7 partition. When you partitioned the machine for Boot Camp your computer looks at the partitions as seperate HD's so anything installed in the Boot Camp partition stays only that partition.

  • Windows on Mac - Viruses

If parallels or boot camp is used to have windows on a mac computer, can I still get viruses? And if I do get a Windows virus will it affect the files on the mac?

Windows viruses will only run within the Windows operating system. They cannot run in Mac OS.
That being said, a Mac user can still spread Windows virus code, they will just not be affected by it themselves.
You should note though that while Mac OS can't tun a Windows virus, if you give Windows, either on Bootcamp or Parallels, access to your Mac's files, the files could be effected anyway. Mac OS can't run the virus code, but if you are running Windows and asking Windows to interact with your Mac files, then it can run the code on those files.
It should also be noted that even if you only used Mac OS, you can still get viruses. There are viruses for Mac OS, they just aren't very common.
If you are going to run Windows, no matter what machine you run it on, you should have an anti-virus program installed.
...and after all of that, I will tell you that I run Windows 7 on both Parallels and Bootcamp, and Windows XP in Parallels. I just use free anti-virus software and have never had a problem.

  • Can I use Windows for Mac in iCloud?

Hello, I would like to use Windows for Mac or any similar program, but I don't want to store it on my hard drive. Can I use it in iCloud, or any other Cloud environment?
Would you recommend a good Windows for Mac type of program?
    Thank you!

A virtual machine is a program, see my above post, that lets you install Windows in a virtual environment on your computer. You can not run Windows from iCloud or any other cloud.
As for cost, you have to by the virtual machine (about $60). You also have to buy Windows (about $99). Or you could use Boot Camp Assitant to install Windows. Boot Camp Assistant is included with OSx. Windows will still cost about $99.

  • Can I use Windows for Mac?

My boss bought me Parallels Windows for Mac.
Why would I want to use that?
    Would it harm my Mac?
Would my Mac be suseptive to viruses with that?

He said in case I wanted to run something that would require windows.
I do not like Windows, I use it at work because I do not have a choice.
Whatever document or anything that anyone sends me that my iMac will not open I just delete.
He also bought me Acronis True Image for Mac, for Backups, but what he does not know is that I purchased a
WD My Passport for Mac 2TB and that is how I back up my Mac once a month.
I feel bad he is such a nice boss. But I really do not like installing things in my Mac that are unnecessary or that might be
    harmful to my Mac.

I'm curious about this, too. You may have to purchase an Apple USB Superdrive. I'm getting one of those soon anyways.
You don't have to use an Apple drive.  Any name brand
USB CD/DVD drive will work.  "Off brands" are best to
be avoided regardless of computer.  LG's seem to work
    quite well for me.

  • How can you download windows for mac

I found bunches of videos one which was really good by technobufallo but i still don't know how to do it

You can't download Windows, you have to buy a retail disk (not an install disk that came with a PC).
You can use either Boot Camp or a third-party solution such as Parallels Desktop, VMWare Fusion, or VirtualBox to install and use the Windows partition. Boot Camp support/instructions here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/
(Edited:) In Lion, Boot Camp only supports Windows 7. Older versions of Windows should work with the other solutions I mentioned.

  • Can't install windows to mac osx partition!

Hi, I had 2 partitions in my macbook pro, 1 for mac osx and 1 for bootcamp, and I wanted to install mac osx to a firewire hard drive, but i messed it up and installed mac osx OVER the bootcamp partition.
Now I have 2 mac osx partitions on the macbook pro, and can't reformat the partition to reinstall bootcamp.
Is there a way to reformat that partition and reinstall bootcamp (windows)?
    Thanks in advance!

That is why backup should be #1 and last.
You have to return (ie, reformat) your drive probably back to one partition with just Mac OS before you can use Boot Camp Assistant.
While at it, just clone one of your Mac OS volumes over to FW now. Later, with Windows installed, make an image of that (WinClone) while in Mac OS to your FW drive also.

  • Can ping from Windows to Mac but not from Mac to Windows

    Hi all!
New owner of a Mac Mini. Know nothing about it, so NewBie Alert!
Windows PC with two NIC's. One connected to the internet, one connected to the Mac by using a crossover cable. Internet Connection Sharing on the Windows PC and the Mac can go out to the internet so there is connectivity between the Mac and the Windows PC.
The problem: I cannot ping the Windows PC from the Mac. I can ping the Mac from the Windows PC, so my suspicion is that it has something to do with a firewall on the Mac, but as far as i know the firewall on the Mac is switched off. On the Windows PC the firewall is definitely switched off.
Who can help me getting this working?
    Thanks,
    Ton.

There can be multiple problems here:
    - no ping service provided on the Windows PC
    - ping traffic blocked by a firewall at either end
    - pinging the wrong host: You have two NICs in your Windows PC, with two IP addresses, and two host names. Only one of the two will be visible from the Mac. Use "ipconfig" at a command prompt to get the two IP addresses, or look at the Properties of your Network connections.
    - Name resolution problem: Try using the IP address with the ping command, not a host name.
Ping from the Windows PC to the MAC, and observe the reported IP address. Make sure the IP address you use to ping from the Mac is in the same subnet, i.e. the first three numbers must be the same, like
    192.168.1.100 vs. 192.168.1.101
What is the result of the ping operation, i.e. "host not reachable", "unknown host", or "no response".

  • Can't load Windows or Mac

    Hey,
So basically I really need help. I recently installed windows vista with boot camp, and everything was fine. Today, I installed one of my programs (East West Symphonic Orchestra) and I had to restart, which i did. Then after restarting, i got a screen saying "Windows failed to start. A recent hardware of software change might be the cause. To fix the problem insert your windows installation disc and restart your computer..."
I tried what it said but it didn't work. Then I tried booting up Mac but it wouldn't let me, it just went straight back to windows. And I can't wipe the computer and re-install it using the Mac discs. So I'm stuck as to what to do. Any help would be much appreciated.

I recently installed Windows on my MacBook Pro.
Make sure when installing that you reformat partition 3 (BOOTCAMP) in the windows installer and make it NTFS - FAT32 is a poor choice and you need to reformat the drive to install it correctly. I chose NTFS Quick, because it really doesn't matter.
To get back into OS X hold down the OPTION key before pressing the power button (don't let go until the option comes up). This will give you the option to boot into OS X. Use your mouse or keyboard arrows. Press enter when it's selected or click the UP arrow under the drive picture.
Go into boot camp once logged in, then restore to single partition (delete windows). After that, set up a new BOOTCAMP partition. Restart with the Windows disc and follow my earlier instructions on NTFS and stuff.
Also, if you don't have it, try to update to Boot Camp 3.1 to solve any issues you may have.
    Hope that solved it

  • Portable Hard drive formating for use with windows and mac operating system

Just bought a verbatim sure fire 500g 800 firewire portable hard drive for my new macbook pro. I have not did bootcamp yet because I am deciding on wether to use Vista or the new windows 7 that will be coming out soon. The drive is already formated HFS+, how do I format the drive so I can write both windows and mac files to it. Help!!!

how do I format the drive so I can write both windows and mac files to it.
Either format it to MS-DOS from the DIsk Utility, or install a tool such as MacDrive into Windows and keep the drive in its current format, or install the NTFS-3G driver into Mac OS X and format the drive to NTFS in Windows.

  • Windows for Mac, best option?

Need to use Windows for work.  Can I purchase Windows for Mac. Will it cause problems , cost, and best option ... Thanks

"Best" is such a subjective term.  I don't really like it.
What do you do at work?  If you only surf web sites, and edit documents, then running Windows in a virtual hardware environment might be a good choice for you.  It will allow you to very easily perform backups, and it allows you to continue to run MacOS spps while you are running Windows.  THis is what I did at my last job and it was great for me.  I had Windows 7 Pro running is a virtual machine, and MacOS 10.8 running on the host hardware.  I could do snything that my job required on that virtual Windows PC and still have enough resources to run apps on my Mac at the sme time.
Now if you do heavy graphic work (why wouldn't you use a Mac and MacOS apps for that?) or if you are doing heavy compiling, then you may want the full dedicated hardware resources of using Boot Camp and dual booting your machine between MacOS and Windows.
The "best" answer depends upon what you have to do in Windows for work...

  • With Creative Cloud are you able to download apps to both Windows and Mac?

I'm not sure whether on 1 subscription you can download to Windows and Mac, or whether you have to buy Creative Cloud for each of these individually??
    Thanks.

    The short answer is yes.
With one membership you can install and activate Cloud apps on up to two computers: either Win/Win, Mac/mac or Win/Mac.

"Yes, as a member of Creative Cloud, you get many benefits that you do not get when you purchase a traditional shrinkwrapped product:
An ever-expanding membership that provides access to Adobe's latest products, services, features, and workflows as soon as they are available. You no longer have to wait 12, 18, or 24 months for the latest innovations.
Access to both the Mac OS and Windows® versions of the desktop applications and the ability to install them on your primary computer and one backup computer. So, if you have a Mac at home and a PC at work, you can install your applications on both as long as they are not running at the same time.
