Can anybody recommend a program that can delete ghost files in my Itunes library?

I have a HUGE music library and really don't have that kinda time to delete these ghost files. I also don't know which are all ghost files since I have to keep clicking on each song to figure it out. Is there a program to delete these ghost files?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Chris

You can use iTunes Folder Watch with its option to Check for dead tracks on startup as a way to clean out dead links. If your library contains both originals and duplicates of the same tracks only one of which is broken then you might find my script DeDuper useful.

  • How can I delete orphan files from my itunes library all at once?

My itunes library has 0ver 200k files and about 30,000 were on an external drive that crashed leaving me with 30,000 orphan files that I want to delete from the library. Too many to delete one by one, how can I either sort them by this field to select all with shift click or is there a script to delete them?

AAC is Advanced Audio Coding.  Basically it's a format that sounds better than MP3 but doesn't take up as much space as a lossless format (like you'd have on a CD).  More than likely you've had that encoding turned on when you ripped your music into itunes (it's the default encoder).  Therefore your LG phone won't play them.
You need to turn off the AAC format by going to the iTunes menu, Preferences, General (at the top), then clicking the "Import Preferences" button.  Change the AAC Encoder to MP3 Encoder.  After that you'll have to make MP3 copies of your songs by right clicking them and selecting "Create MP3 Version."  You'll get a copy of the song that should transfer to your SD card and have MP3 encoding.  Hopefully your phone will play that.

  • Can't add files to my iTunes library

Since the iTunes 11.0 update, I have had problems with my iTunes library.  That update deleted my whole podcast library.  I have been able to recreate most of it.  However, some of the podcasts were not available in iTunes store so I have downloaded them from the website.  Then I move the file to the correct folder  After downloading them, one of two things happen.  Either I get the message that the file cannot be found and asks if I want to iTunes to locate it.  In that case, I just click on the file and the podcast gets added.  However, if I add a new file to my library, nothing happens.  I click File>add file to library and nothing happens.  When I go back to the folder where I put the file, the file is gone.
How do I add the file?

  • Can't Drag Files into the Itunes Library anymore

I was just taking some mp3s from my old computer to my new one and I have been doing this for a few days, yesterday, I couldn't drag anymore songs into the library for some reason. A blue rectangle comes up, but I can't position it over 'Music'. Dragging files into the playlists still work though.

  • "iTunes Media" file in "Previous iTunes Library" taking up 50Gb of much-needed hard drive space.  Can this be safely deleted?

    Hi everyone,
My 3.5 year old 15" Macbook Pro is running out of hard drive space, so I have been trying to clean out some of the dross.  I recently found that there is a file called "Previous iTunes Library" in my iTunes folder that is taking up approximately 50Gb of space.   I would love to delete this folder and reclaim the space, but I am not sure what it is or where it came from, and I don't want to lose music files accidentally. Can someone tell me (1) what this folder is and (2) if I can safely delete it?
Here is a screenshot of these folders and their sizes:
    Thanks for the help!

    Hello facetious1212,
Take a look at this part of the article named iTunes: What are the iTunes library files? Found here http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1660.
Tip: New versions of iTunes sometimes include enhancements to the iTunes library. When you open the new version of iTunes, iTunes upgrades your existing library to the new format and places a copy of the old library in the Previous Libraries folder. If everything goes fine during your upgrade to the latest version of iTunes, you can delete the older iTunes Library files.
    All the very best,
    Sterling

  • How can I transfer my iPod touch files directly to iTunes library?

I wanted to upgrade my iPod because it is still version 4.1 . Every time I try to download apps from the App Store, most of them are only available for newer versions that's why I wanted to upgrade it. Please help me! Thanks in advance.

Follow these insructions. WHn it says to restore from backup your iPod will also be updated.
Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive: Apple Support Communities
    Note:
A 2G can only to 4.2.1. Requires iTunes version 10.X. If a Mac it requires OSX 10.5.8 or later. With OSX 10.4.11 you can only go to iTunes 9.X which gets you as high as iOS 4.1
A 3G to 5.1.1  Requires iTunes version 10.5 or later
A 4G to 6  Requires iTunes version 10.7 or later. For a Mac, that requires a Mac with OSX 10.6.8 or later

CAUTION, if you have a 2G iPod
Before you restore the iPod make sure that your iTunes library has the version of apps that are presently installed on your iPod. Many apps have been update and the update apps are not compatible with the 2G iPod. I would do that by deleting the apps from your iTunes library and then transfer them to your iTunes library. See:

In iTunes 11 use Control+B to show the Menu bar then go to iTunes>File>Devices>Transfer Purchases

Do you have a backup of your iPhone?   If so, do a restore and whatever Notes were backed up should reappear.
You will lose any changes made since that backup though.

  • I accidentally erased a music album that I purchased on iTunes. How can I get the iTunes store to recognize that it is no longer in my iTunes library and download it again?

I accidentally erased a music album that I purchased on iTunes. How can I get the iTunes store to recognize that it is no longer in my iTunes library and download it again?

Delete the broken links in iTunes then look at your purchased list to redownload.
If this happened because you were deleting files from the iTunes folder in Finder, don't.  You have to let iTunes do all the deleting and moving or you will end up with broken links.

Download OmniDiskSweeper from the Internet (free) and open it.  It will produce a display i a sequential format showing what you have on your MBP and the space each item is taking.  This should assist you in identifying all of your disk space 'hogs'.
    Ciao.

  • Help! I deleted some playlists from my iPhone 4S, and it deleted the playlists in my iTunes library as well!  What can I do to get my playlists back?

Please help... I've been trying to get rid of a ton of unwanted music on my iPhone 4S.  The music I had marked in iTunes to sync to my phone was not the only music showing up.  In my attempts to get rid of the unwanted music, I decided to delete all the music on my phone. Even after unchecking the "Sync Music" tab, there were still 3 songs left as well as my previous playlists.  So, I deleted the playlists... which appears to have simultaneously deleted the playlists from my iTunes library!  Also, I can not get rid of the remaining songs no matter what I try!!  Please help!!!

If you keep the 4s and send back the 4 you ARE stealing their device. If the decide they want the device back, send them the device that they purchased.
Switching SIMs is irrelevant to the discussion.

  • Why can I not delete a book from my iTunes library

Why can I not delete a book from my iTunes library. There are many books that I want to delete and replace with current books, but cannot remove the old books.  Thanks  Guy

    Hey cjt101,
Thanks for the question. Was this song purchased from the iTunes Store? If so, it may be that your device is configured to show all of your purchased music that has not yet been downloaded. The following resource may resolve your issue:
iCloud and iTunes Match - iPhone
    http://help.apple.com/iphone/8/#/iphb8d9fd5a6
View only music that’s downloaded. Go to Settings > iTunes & App Store. Under Show All, turn off Music.
    Thanks,

  • Hi I would like to know if I can delete my file fpsaud (Library Cache) because my app Clean my mac cannot do it. Is this operation dangerous? Thanks

Hi I would like to know if I can delete my file psaud (Library Cache) because my App Mac Cleanse cannot do it. Can I move this this manually into the trash? Is it dangerous? Thanks

You should have stopped after the first paragraph, because that was the only helpful part. You managed to sarcastically tell the questioner that he or she is dumb, throw in a couple of tidbits to convince any reader how smart you must be, and discourage any further learning.
I saw nowhere in the original question where marcozroberto was complaining about speed.
Caches, to us lesser mortals, are one of the first culprits that come to mind when all the cookies (including smart cookies) and browser cache have been erased, yet the ads on Web pages still want to know if I'd like to find a date tonight in my specific area code. So, I turn to sites like the Apple discussion pages to find out what other pieces of memory I have to flush to feel less stalked.  According to you, I shouldn't bother my poor head learning about this machine I bought, I should just trust  manufacturers and programmers to manage everything.
I doubt fpsaud is really the problem with my browsing (my next guess is the IP address), but I won't learn that here.

  • I am trying to delete duplicate content in my iTunes library. I have stopped the download and I can see them on VIEW Displaying Duplicates, but cannot delete them with the Delete button. Can anyone assist?

I am trying to delete duplicate content in my iTunes library. I have stopped the download and I can see them on VIEW>Displaying Duplicates, but cannot delete them with the Delete button. Can anyone assist?

If you've paused the download (they are partially greyed out on the duplicates screen ?) then you will need to delete them from download window, you can't (as far as I know) delete partially downloaded items from that screen. When you have items downloading, or downloads that are paused, you should have a downward pointing arrow at the top right of the iTunes screen
If you click that arrow you should get a popup window with the items that are downloading/paused - and you should be able to select and delete them (or resume their download) from there.

How I can delete remained files on phone mem after removing apps?
Because it uses a lot of space and I can't use many apps and it says:

You cannot delete the default apps. Only those that you have added.
Default apps wiggle, but they don't delete.

  • My iPad music seems to be corrupt. Can I delete everything including the back up so I can re-load afresh from my iTunes library

My iPad music seems to be corrupt. Can I delete everything including the back up so I can re-load afresh from my iTunes library
In my iTunes library on my Macbook Air everything is OK but whenever I syncronise after an update a back up is made and then re-loaded.
Can I delete this back up somehow and load direct from my iTunes Library ?

Depending upon what problem that you are having with the Music app, have you tried closing the Music app via the iPad's taskbar and seeing if that helps ? From the home screen (i.e. not with the Music app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Music app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't help then you can delete your music from your iPad and re-sync it back to it. A device's backup doesn't contain the contents of the Music and Videos apps, when you do a restore it gets those from your computer's iTunes library and not from within the actual backup, so deleting the backup shouldn't make any difference to that - if you want to delete the iPad's backup from your Mac then go into iTunes > Preferences (command-comma), and on the Devices tab select the iPad backup and click the 'Delete Backup' button.
