Can anyone at Apple explain what's going on with bluetooth?

Hi, having read all the existing posts, I still can't find a fix for the fact my bluetooth connection is up and down like a yo-yo at present. As a loyal Apple customer over the years, I'm not really used to things not working properly, without a fix being delivered pretty soon. Presently bluetooth on my Macbook Pro can disappear (the functionality and even the icon from sys prefs and report as "not available" from the menubar, or the prefs stay and can open up but have no effect, or both prefs and menuitem just lock up (as is the current case.) -Odd as it all used to work fine. (problems since 10.5.7) - Oh well just have to try a restart (again) - this really does take the joy out of using these things. Are apple investigating this, they are welcome to any system log files I have which include the below periodically:

Can anyone explain what's going on with this dual 2.0 G5???

I've been trouble shooting my PowerMac G5 dual 2.0 recently. I've gotten to the point where I think it's the processors. I was getting random freezing and Kernel Panics so I bought a set of used 2.0 CPUs (U1 and U2)in unknown working condition. Well, I took out the original CPU (O1) that I though was causing the trouble and replaced it with one of the untested ones (U1).Everything worked great except that the computer only recognized one CPU (don't know which one). Swapped out U1 for U2 and again it powered right up but froze after a few minutes. So I replaced U2 with U1 and went about using it as a single G5.
I later aquired a 100% tested and working 2.0 CPU (T1) and popped it in with O1. I got nothing. No chime or start up. I switched their positions and got as far as trying to calibrate the fans only to repeatedly get an error saying the processor was bad.
After this I tried something I hadn't thought of before. I put U1 and U2 together and to my surprise, the computer started. It was working with both CPUs once again. The only thing I noticed was that CPU A's temp was about 103 degrees F and CPU B's was 118 F. There was always about a 15 degree difference. The computer ran fine for a while so I opened 6 full length movies in Quicktime to stress the CPUs. After a few minutes of running and expose work, the computer froze. I didn't see what the temps were when it froze, I just did a hard shutdown and left it off.
My point is, I'm starting to wonder if it's the logic board and not the CPUs. Both O1 and O2 work together and are recognized as dual, but the computer will freeze. O1 and U1 work together but are recognized as a single 2.0 G5. U1 and U2 work together and are recognized as dual but, again, the computer froze. I couldn't get T1 to even register, but I've been told Rev A and Rev B CPUs cannot be mixed so maybe that's why.
Does anyone have any ideas? Two (or more) heads are better than one and I'd love to figure this out. I hope this doesn't sound too confusing. I'll give any additional info if needed. Thanks in advance.

I do agree with the statement that it cannot handle dual processors. I swapped the the "original" working CPU with the "original" one I thought was giving me problems. It is now running (although showing as single) with the CPU I thought was bad. Both sets, original and untested, will work together and register as dual, but will be unreliable and randomly freeze.

I'm having trouble narrowing down that part. I can swap them back and forth and get the same result-so both sockets seem to be working. But like I said when both pairs are couple together, it shows as dual, and it works for a certain amount of time. So I know they are working to a certain degree. But when they're mixed, only one (don't know which one) is being seen.
Yes, I've run thermal calibration and everything goes fine. Even with the diagnostic disc, when the CPUs are mixed, hardware specs show one CPU. But when the original pairs are coupled, it will show both.
This is like a splinter that I can't get out. It runs great as one CPU, and I could let it go like that, but knowing that it could (and should) be dual is driving me nuts.
Is there anything either of you can think of that I can try?

My wifi router (Airport Extreme) is named "PalmSprings." I noticed today that when I try to connect to a network on my iMac from the drop down list of wireless networks, there are 2 networks called (1) "PalmSprings_2GEXT" and "PalmSprings_5GEXT." Both of these networks are locked, so is my network "PalmSprings." ALso, I don't have any other routers installed, or range extenders. What could this be? When I unplug my router and internet, those 2 networks still remain online. Have I been hacked? It could be my imagine, but my internet has been acting funky lately.

It seems clear to me that if you unplug your AirPort Extreme and those Wi-Fi networks still appear, they are not being created by your Extreme but by someone else's router. They won't be useful to you.
To eliminate confusion, open System Preferences > Network, and select Wi-Fi from the left column. Click the Advanced... button. In the "Preferred Networks" list, select each Network Name and click the "–" (minus) button. Check the box "Remember networks this computer has joined". Click OK, then Apply.
Then select your PalmSprings network in your Mac's Wi-Fi menu. Ignore any others that may appear there.
If you still have funky problems, try renaming your AirPort Extreme's network to something other than PalmSprings. Use "Palm Springs" (including the space character - spaces are OK) or something else. Other networks with similar or identical names will just confuse things.
Use a non-trivial WPA/WPA2 password for your Wi-Fi network. Give your Extreme base station a non-trivial password as well. These ought to be different from one another, but are not required to be. Doing so will preclude any concern about your network being "hacked".

Can anyone help me understand what this problem is with Desktop Manager that I am having???

Hi everyone! I have downloaded the Desktop Manager Software on to my desktop. I've clicked on the "media" option in the main menu.
I am brought to a screen that has 2 options. "Media Manager" and " Blackberry Media Sync".
Now, I want to download themes and wallpaper, but in order to do that, I need to select "Media Manager" correct? ... Unfortunately this option is not available. I have my blackberry on, and is connected to the USB port. I am able to click "start" on the "Blackberry Media Sync" option, but not on Media Manager. If anyone could help me out, this would be greatly appreciated. I am going absolutely insane trying to figure this out! Thx for your help!!!!

I don't know what is going on with my computer

I have no words to explain what is going on with my computer. Its very hard to explain so here is a screenshot of the problem

To take a screenshot hold ⌘ Shift 4 to create a selection crosshair. Click and hold while you drag the crosshair over the area you wish to capture and then release the mouse button. You will hear a "camera shutter" sound. This will deposit a screenshot on your Desktop.
If you can't find it on your Desktop look in your Documents or Downloads folder.
When you post your response, click the "camera" icon above the text field:
This will display a dialog box which enables you to choose the screenshot file (remember it's on your Desktop) and click the Insert Image button.
⌘ Shift 4 and then pressing the space bar captures the frontmost window.
⌘ Shift 3 captures the entire screen.
Drag the screenshot to the Trash after you post your reply.

Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost

How much RAM installed?
How full is your Mac's hard drive?
Do you run any antivirus software on your Mac? Antivirus software can slow down the normal operation of OS X and have negative effects on system performance.
Do you have apps like MacKeeper or any other maintenance apps like CleanMyMac 1 or 2, TuneUpMyMac or anything like these apps, installed on your Mac?
These types of apps, while they appear to be helpful, can do too good a job of data "cleanup" causing the potential to do serious data corruption or data deletion and render a perfectly running OS completely dead and useless leaving you with a frozen, non-functional Mac.
Plus, these type of apps aren't really necessary.
They really aren't.
There are manual methods to clear off unnecessary data off of your Mac that are safer and you have complete control over your Mac and not just leave a piece of auto cleaning software in charge of clearing off data off of your Mac.
These apps potential of causing OS X issues outweighs the implied good and benefits these types of hard drive or memory "cleaning" apps are written to do.
Plus, the software company's that write these apps make it hard to easily uninstall these apps if something DOES go wrong and these apps work in a way where you have no recovery or revert function to return your Mac back to its former, working state in the event something does go wrong.
It is best to never download and install these types of apps.
The risk to your system and data is too great a risk!

What is going on with POP email? I can NOT retrieve email unless*...I reboot AND reset!* I POP 3 Comcast emails and my own URL email. Never any problems on Entourage. Hourly issues with my new iPhone—and it's only been 4 days.
This is *unbelievably frustrating* and negates why I got the dang thing in the first place.
Does anyone have a work around? Is this a known bug (Apple) or am I missing something?
+*Plus as a side note I think there are too many clicks into the In Box. Just a usability thing I wish I could set myself.+

I have the same problem intermittently... Every so often, the iPhone goes into a mode where email just doesn't work until i shut down and reboot... Then it works fine...
Its not always the case, but I can't isolate the scenario which causes it to go into this weird mode...

There is no such thing as a "sub-account." Also, you probably mean iTunes library, when you say "account." Your "account" in iTunes is your Apple ID, which is what you use to sign in to the iTunes Store to make purchases. iPods are associated with an iTunes library, not with an Apple ID (iTunes Store account). You'll need to clarify...
So, this is what I think you are saying. You previously shared an iTunes library on a computer with your friend. Your old iPod was synced to that iTunes library.
You got an iPhone, and at that time, you set up your own iTunes library. Is that on a different computer? How does the iPhone affect your question about the iPod?
You got a new iPod. What is your "old iTunes"? Is that the iTunes library you shared with your friend?

The single download means that you won't be able to redownload it from the store without paying, either on a computer's iTunes or an iOS device - it doesn't stop you from copying the audiobook to your other computers or syncing it to your iOS devices, you just can't redownload it. (I believe that they are all supplied to Apple by audible.com, so I assume that it's them requiring the one-time download.)
You can download audiobooks on your computer's iTunes and sync them to iOS devices, you do not have to buy them directly on the device (if you do then you can copy them back to your computer's iTunes library by connecting the device and using the File > Devices > Transfer Purchases menu option on your computer's iTunes).
What you are doing to sync them should work i.e.
- connecting the iPad to your Mac
- selecting the iPad on your Mac's iTunes
- selecting its Books tab and selecting the audiobooks that you want to sync to the iPad and syncing/applying that selection.
You should then get an audiobooks option in the Music app on your iPad. If they aren't appearing there then do they show in Settings > General > Usage > Music on the device - if you have audiobooks on the iPad then they should be listed there under an 'audiobooks' heading.
By 'restart the iPad' do you mean a soft-reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
You could also try closing its Music app via the iPad's taskbar : Force an app to close in iOS.
And do a soft-reset and retry syncing.
I assume that music and other items sync ok ?

I like dynafaces and its approach to ajax, but I'm a bit worried about the state of the project and whether it has a future. The official mailing list is dead (something like 3 messages in the last month, all from the same guy, all unanswered), and the project doesn't seem to have ever had an actual release, although Ed Burns has been posting release candidates over the past few months. I'd actually like to get involved with dynafaces, but obviously only if it's viable, and isn't about to be made obsolete by JSF 2.0.
Anyone out there know what's going on?

We are looking to produce a standard for all JSF/Ajax frameworks to use. This means that all frameworks
will change to accommodate the standard. We have members representing the major JSF/Ajax frameworks
on our Expert Group. Whether you continue to use Dynamic Faces (or not), really depends on your
current needs and time line for a JSF/Ajax solution. If you can afford to wait a bit, then I would go with
the JSF 2.0 implementation.

Why does apple make it so difficult to understand what is going on with my one to one?

Does anyone have any answers for this? I don't even know where to list it here as a question.
Just spent over 2 hours, off and on, trying to get someone at apple to help figure out what's going on with my one to one. They give a number for help but there's no one there - only more gibberish about go here go there go all over the place on their site.... So called 'customer service' doesn't understand my question? Another place it says call the store, well that was another waste of time....
If I get a message saying my one to one is expired and then I pay for it via paypal, wait for the activation email. I sure don't want to pay for something I already have - that was my grocery money for 2 weeks.
When I click on that link it says:

This membership cannot be activated because this Apple ID is already associated with a One to One membership.

It always has a very high number at the beginning, but it never takes that long....
However, it can take several hours....I've found this to be true on any device or computer I've downloaded movies or tv shows on - Mac, PC, iPad, Kindle Fire....you name it.
However, even if it does take a long time, that does not prevent you from starting to watch it as soon as it has done a little downloading. Here is the Apple link for typical download times:
