Can anyone decode a kernel panic for me?
Hello all,
Below is a kernel panic I have been having on trying to boot from a Panther install (Full Retail) on my imac 15" flat panel, 256MB,currently running 10.1.5 on a clean install. Would be very grateful for any clues. My AHT comes up clean, but this is not a well pooter (applications often quit 'unexpectedly'). My nearest Apple repair person is 40 miles away and I don't drive, so I'm trying to exhaust all possibilties first!

panic: we are hanging here
Very grateful to anyone who might be able to decipher it.
You may also be having a problem with a badly corrupted hard drive. I would recommend you reformat the hard drive before installing OS X. Do the following:
1a (If this is the startup drive.) Boot from your OS X Installer Disk. After the installer loads select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu if using Tiger.) Be sure to use the installer disk for the version of OS X you intend to install.
1b (If this is a non-startup volume or external drive.) Open Disk Utility in the Utilities folder of your Applications folder.
2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Set the number of partitions from the dropdown menu (use 1 partition unless you wish to make more.) Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled, if supported.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the volume(s) mount on the Desktop.
4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled, if supported.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
6. Click on the Erase button. The format process will take 30 minutes to an hour or more depending upon the drive size.

Can someone decode this kernel panic?
Hello!
I was wondering if anyone out there could decode the kernel panic reports I am getting on my iMac every few hours.
I have upgraded to Mountain Lion from Lion a few days ago.
I used to use my external storage drive on firewire for timemachine, and I unplugged it, used USB adapter, and plugged it into usb 3.0 slot on my macbook, and then used the drive with USB adapter on my iMac, could this be why?
Anyhow ever since I am getting kernel panic every 3 hours or so.
This is the report I get,

Can Anyone help with Kernel Panic!?!?!
I've been having loads of problems with leopard since install. I have updated to 10.5.2 but the same problem persists i.e. whole system crashes: grey screen comes down and i have to restart. there seems to be no logic to it (it sometimes crashes when just itunes/DVDplayer is running).
I'm not very tech-savvy, but it seems to be a kernel problem and/or a problem with conflict of commands.
Does anyone know what i can do about it? This is becoming quite unnerving.
Cheers
Here is the Problem Details:

backtraceKernel panics usually occur as the result of a conflict with external hardware or bad .kext files that are driving those pieces of hardware. EyeTV is implicated in one of the threads. Check for firmware or software updates. Google "EyeTV kernel panic" and you'll find several hits. Didn't look like there was a solution as the company that is making an extension to the OS thinks it is an OS problem.

Can anyone translate this kernel panic log?
Lately I've been CONSTANTLY being plagued by program crashes, kernel panics, etc... I'm planning on getting my computer checked out but I don't have access to the Apple store in at present. Is anyone tech-savvy enough to decipher this (fairly useless IMO) error log?
For what it's worth, I occasionally crash when running Safari as well as running Steam.
Thanks for any and all help.

Can anyone decifer my Kernel Panic Log?
After a typical Mac software update install my computer froze upon restarting. Through the Discussions I determined this was a Kernel Panic. My computer is unfrozen and seems to be working fine, but I cannot decifer the log itself. I'd like to have some idea what happened to avoid further complications.

powerbook g4 Mac OS X (10.4.7)certainly..... he didn't say anything about fixing it, he wanted to know what it meant, so i was addressing that....
but try safe boot (hold shift on boot), if it safe boots, go to system preferences>accounts>click on the login items tab and disable all of them and try again...
also to reset pram (parameter ram) hold down control key, apple key, and p, and r until you hear a second startup chime....
also peripherals and added ram can cause this... there is also an issue of airport causing this (in which case to applecare it is)... -
Can anyone interpret this kernel panic?
Hello,
Just got my first kernel panic on my MacBook Pro in about a year and a half. I've restarted it a few times, but I keep getting the kernel panic—especially when I launch iTunes. I'd really appreciate it if someone could help me. I'm a relief worker in sub-Saharan Africa and don't have the resources/wherewithal out here to take care of this myself! Thanks!
The kernel panic is as follows:

Not only does it fail to protect you, it throws false warnings, destabilizes and slows down your computer, and sometimes or always corrupts the network settings and the permissions of files in your home folder. Removing it may not repair all the damage, and neither will Disk Utility or even reinstalling OS X.
Back up all data, then remove "Avast" according to the developer's instructions. Reboot.
If you tried to remove Avast by dragging an application to the Trash, you'll have to reinstall it and follow the instructions linked above.
If you still have problems after following those instructions, post again. -
Can anyone decode this kernel panic for me? This is the second I've had since installing Mountain Lion. I ran the AHT (nothing amiss) and reformatted the computer after the first one.

Try to find a way to reproduce it, then schedule a service appointment at an Apple Store. Print the first page of the panic report and bring it with you. The negative hardware test doesn't mean anything.

[SOLVED] Kernel panic for an unknown reason
[Solved] Steps done to solve it:
0. Panic because I couldn't play starcraft2 (this step is sooo important! ;)
1. Updated my mirrorlist.
2. Forced a refresh on the package list from the new mirrorlist. "pacman -Syy"
3. Downgraded the kernel.
4. Deleted the latest kernel package from the pacman cache.
5. Updated the system. (pacman -Syu)
6. Thanked lilsirecho for helping out!
7. Profit
Hi all
I just did a "pacman -Syu" this afternoon and after that I'm getting kernel panics for unknown reasons.
edit: I had kernel 3.0.4 befure syu and I have kernel 3.0.7 now. I tried downgrading wine and the kernel with no success.
It first happened when I tried to run StarCraft2 with wine. I even created a post looking for help because of that.
Later on I tested another game, just in case, and it crashed too.
Looks like a wine problem, right? Or even a graphics driver problem.
That's what I thought too. But then I tried to update with "yaourt -Syu --aur" and in the first package compression it freezed once again. And it does fail everytime I try to update with yaourt during the compression phase.
What do this situations have in common?
My opinion is that they all require a lot of resources. StarCraft 2 puts my PC at 100% almost all the time. The other game is pretty old, but it freezed during an "environment loading" phase, right when the map was loading. The compression phase of yaourt also consumes a lot of resources.
This is my view of this problem, but I could be completely wrong.
What I need is help finding what is the real source of this kernel panics. I don't know where to look for the logs or the error reports when a kernel panic occurs.
I hope someone can help me trace the problem somehow. I think I'm lost
ty in advance.
cheers!

Possibly caused by a mirror download.
Perhaps you need to revert kernel and insure you have the latest mirrorlist and then syu again.
When I saw your response I thought: "Why should that be true? I downgraded the kernel with no success. Doesn't make much sense".
But then I did what you said:
Downgraded the kernel back to 3.0.4.
Moved the latest mirrorlist.pacnew I had to be the mirrorlist in use.
Then did a "pacman -Syyu".
And, miraculously, it works fine now.
How in the world did you know that could be the reason? It would have been the last possibility I would have thought about, no doubt about that
Thank you very much lilsirecho. Your post really helped me.
Not gonna mark this as SOLVED yet. Yesterday I marked my other thread as solved too soon and I regretted my decision.
I will leave a 1week time-frame to be 100% sure that it is fixed, just in case. -
Can anyone guide me any material for IDOC_INPUT_EEWAGECOMP_CREATE
Can anyone guide me any material for IDOC_INPUT_EEWAGECOMP_CREATE
Or any example will be appreciatedWow... brutal forum you chose here. I'm in the same class, and if it makes you feel any better, we didn't cover this content this semester. It was kind of a "trick" question, just to see if students could get anywhere with it. Personally, I'm surprised this instructor would do that, because on a final exam, that seems a little mean. For extra credit, sure, but not on the final.
I've benefited from some extra boosts from a number of different forums this semester (no, I didn't just copy code, I looked and learned) and I haven't seen anyone treated so badly in any of them. I agree, we all need to find our own way, and try, etc, but a few of the responses sound like they're from people who talk a big game when they're hiding behind a keyboard, and who feel pretty comfortable passing judgement. I mainly just feel sad for those people, but then, that's just me passing my own judgement as well, isn't it?
I wish I could help you, although at this point, it'd be too late anyway. If it makes you feel any better (I can't imagine why it would), I wasn't able to solve it either. The instructor did tell me that if your program doesn't work, you won't lose points, so try not to be too terribly disheartened. I understand your panic; I did well in this class, but not so well in another, and it will ruin my 4.0 GPA. It's hard to let go of some things, even when the "ethics police" are cramming their harsh words down your throat. I'll stick to my other forums, I think. I don't need to be insulted.
Good luck to you! ;-) -

Can anyone suggest a simple system for backing up my MacBook?
I have a MacBook 120G which runs Tiger. I also have an Aiport Extreme, which is connected to a printer via USB. I want to buy an external hard drive to create a safety back up of my whole system. I have been trawling the suppliers' websites, getting more and more confused. Can anyone suggest the simplest solution for a simple-minded user like me? These are my main confusions:
a) Can anyone suggest what type / make of hard drive I should buy in order to be able to store my computer's contents and re-boot it in the event of disaster? Will a non-powered hard drive do the job or is it somehow better to get a powered one? It would sit near my desk so I am keen to avoid fan noise if at all possible! I believe I'll need to 'partition' the drive in order to make it bootable, or something - if this is correct, what kind of hard drive is easiest and idiotproof for this?
b) I think I've concluded it's not worth binning my Airport Extreme and replacing it with a Time Capsule. But is it worth buying Leopard in order to get Time Machine? I believe I can still use the Airport Extreme to connect to the hard drive so that Time Machine would make backups regularly and wirelessly? If so, do I need to use a USB hub from the Airport Extreme so that I can still keep the printer connected? I can only find one HD which has a built in hub - the Iomega Minimax - but I have read reviews saying the fan is noisy. Any other suggestions?
Any help and suggestions about this would be very gratefully received. Many thanks
SteveLeopard is a nice upgrade (if your computer has 2GB of memory) and TimeMachine is convenient but it isn't the only way to create a reliable and simple backup system. If you decide TM is your solution buy a drive that has 2 to 3 times as much space as you are using on your computer now. If you are using 80GB of your drive now, buy a 160GB to 240GB drive for TimeMachine. It keeps multiple backups and eats up drive space pretty quickly.
Lots of good backup programs exist but the one I really like is called SuperDuper! It will create an exact duplicate of your hard drive and you can set up a schedule so that automatically backs up new and modified files at specific times/days. With my MacBook I connect it to my external drive on Friday evening and let SuperDuper! do its work overnight. If you chose this router or another that doesn't use TimeMachine, get a drive at least as large as your computer's hard drive.
The Western Digital MyBook series is a good choice and so is the Seagate FreeAgent series. I'd avoid self powered external drives like Western Digital's Passport series unless you intend to travel with the drive. They require special proprietary cables to power the drive which are easy to lose and expensive to replace, among other things. If you can afford a firewire drive that's generally preferable because firewire is faster than USB but the speed difference isn't blazing. If you do you backing up over night speed won't be an issue.
Whether you use TimeMachine or another program, this is just once phase of a backup plan. If you experience a break-in, fire, or flood the backup drive is probably going to experience the same fate as your computer. You also need to think about taking a backup of your most important files off-site. This can be as simple as once a month burning a DVD of your documents, digital photos, and email to a DVD and taking it to work.
