Can anyone fix dock freezes

For the past couple of months, I think since the 10.4.3 update, the docks on my Powerbook G4 and iMac G5 are having a problem freezing. The Powerbook is the main culprit. As I slide the cursor over an application it starts to bounce and then the whole screen freezes with the bouncing application icon part-way out of the dock. The only way I can end the freeze is to double click on a file on the desktop--then after a minute or two the freeze suddenly ends. I searched through Discussions but did not find anything useful. I have done the usual maneuvers--repaired disk permissions, ran Disk Warriors, did all updates (now 10.4.4), trashed the dock plist preference etc. I use a Kensington USB wireless mini mouse on both computers in case anyone thinks that is the problem.

David, I have dock magnification off. So, that cannot be it. I have tried all the usual tricks: resetting user privileges (with disk aid), cleaning caches (using Applejack),... All to no avail. Am still struggling and finding it quite hopeless. I am typing this on my IBM ThinkPad now...
And, my PowerBook has 1 GB RAM (installed when bought). All worked well up to including MacOS 10.3 Panther.

I installed LabVIEW 5.1 on an XP machine and some of the VI's, such as fit to curve, do not have icons. Instead, they have a ? where the icon should be, and they cannot be inserted into my VI's. Can anyone fix this?

From your discussion I have seen that you try to use LV 5.1.
It seems that 5.1.1 will work correct. The difference is that 5.1.1 is compatible with Win 2000 and 5.1 is not. This can by a issue.
Another thing I have seen under Win2000 is the rights a user has. Since you use XP Home there should be no restrictions to the user of the machine. One thing to take into account is do you install and use LV as the same user?

He is using LV 2009. If he wouldn't, opening the VI in newer versions would create the *-symbol in the end of the VIs name showing that there are unsaved changes. Looking into the VI settings >> General >> List unsaved Changes would reveal the original version.
To answer the question:
The VI has too many unnecessary local variables and lacks in a proper architecture. You do not have a timing in your loop leading to 100% CPU load at a single core. Please look into the State Machine (Video and Exercise here) or the UI Event Handler for further info (event handler only with LV FDS oder PDS).
Additionally, your algorithm for shifting the active LED is no good. I cannot give you any useful information on a solution since it is not clear how the move should look like (what happens if LED is shifted out of the 3x3 array in any direction? Does it appear on the opposite side in the same column/row or does it shift to another one?)

Can anyone fix my Bing Seach XML/CSS problem?

I can still search but I get results like shown in the attachment, and the other search options such as Local and Media are unavailable, showing the same messed up screen as the standard search.
Can anyone help? It's a brand new 620 just a few weeks old. Before this happened I got an XML error which I didn't manage to screen capture, then search worked fine for a few days, then this happened and it's been like this for a week now.
I've tried changing search settings, clearing history, restarting, and changing language and keyboard settings. I don't seem to have many other options short of a factory reset which I'd like to avoid.
So if anyone has some helpful input I'm all ears. Nothing daft.

becuase wp8 is not open source, there really isnt much trouble shooting you can do around these situations.
sounds like you covered your basic bases and already know your last option.
i would be sure to back up your data and give it a rip.
you can try a soft reset before you go to the full extent of complete factory reboot....

How can I fix Dock/Mission Control/Launchpad? (Glitch)

General Description
Mission Control and Launchpad glitch when invoked (whether by using the mouse or trackpad gesture). They seems to crash or quit, and then relaunch themselves (/itself - all the same app?), I know this because:
they both, as well as Dock, become unresponsive;
the desktop background images disappear temporarily (being replaced by blank light or dark grey);
the Mission Control animation stops/freezes and does not execute properly (the windows stay still);
Dock becomes unresponsive as well as Launchpad.
This happens a lot (every other invokation) and seems to be random; it's annoying and is ruining my workflow, since I am a heavy user of multiple desktops.
Behaviour
I usually have over ten desktops, all with active apps open at one time; when it glitches I can't even open or switch applications, though I can use the ones that are on the current desktop (if was trying to use Mission Control).
There is no correlation with the glitch and the amount of applications open, or how much RAM or CPU is active (still happens with only a few light apps open and a few desktops).
It does not matter whether I am using more than one monitor, the glitch still occurs.
It does not happen due to a particular open application, as I have tested with nothing open at all straight after a restart.
Possible and tested causes
An application might be corrupting the glitchy app(s), since the disk breaks after being repaired in Safe Boot mode. Once the disk has been repaired, the glitch doesn't seem to occur until a few applications have been opened, though I haven't tested this much. (I am suspecting TheBrain, but not sure. Other potential culprits: Chrome, Mail, Firefox, Spotify, Skype, Dictionary, Activity Monitor, Finder).
It isn't the operating system itself because I have reinstalled it from Safe Boot mode, and yet the glitch persists.
The application(s) affected by the glitch may be corrupted, and need reinstalled - that is, if they weren't already by reinstalling the operating system (they are in the '/System/CoreServices' folder).
Not-so-possible:
I doubt it is a virus - it would be a pretty pointless glitch for one to cause.
I have Time Machine running most of the time, but I have no reason to believe that is the cause.
I am using a NEET mini display port to HDMI adapter for my second monitor (no idea how that could be causing the issue).

Any ideas on what I could do to fix this?
And does anyone know how to reinstall Mission Control, Dock and Launchpad (I think they are all part of '/System/Library/CoreServices/Dock.app')? This might be worth a try.

One thing I'd like for you to try: Create a new user account. Log into the new account and see if the same problems persist.
Many times such crashes are the result of corrupted preference or cache files. The above will eliminate these in the user account but not at the system level. So, I suggest you use a utility such as Lion Cache Cleaner 6.0.11 or Purity 1.10 to clear out cache files at the system level. I've never used the latter software but I, personally, use the former one on my computers.

Can anyone fix youtube playback on Yosemite (all browsers are effected)

I'm new user of this forum, but longtime owner of macs.
I have been running Yosemite on my 2011 iMac 27 for a month or so and I am having problems with video and some audio streaming.
It makes no difference which browser i use, videos either dont load, or start half way through, have no sound or play at double speed.
I have followed the numerous fixes including fresh install of yosemite and tried to re-install Maverick (which i cant get to work as i cant see the external boot drive as an option to install from when i follow the instructions).
My tech knowledge runs out fairly quickly but any help or suggestions of a fix would be gratefully received

I had my headphones in my laptop and when i took them out, the buit in speakers stopped working

Sometimes the micro switch inside the headphone socket gets stuck. Look inside the socket - if you can see a red light, that's what's happened.
To unstick the microswitch, plug and unplug a headphone jack into the socket 20-30 times. If that doesn't work, use a non conducting probe (like a toothpick) to gently reach inside the socket and flick the switch

Can anyone fix broken thumbs?

Importing iMovieHD 6 projects seems a bit hit and miss.
I am upset that transitions and soundtracks disappear.
But sometimes the imported footage has mis-matched thumbnails.
Check out the house-versus-the daughter mis-match below.

Ok I based have it fixed here's what I did.
I deleted the thumbnail cache folder in the bad event.
When that didn't work, I went into the main clips folder and could see that some names were nearly the same, clip80 and clip80.dv.
since just adding .dv would cause name conflicts I renamed all the files without the .dv adding "a.dv", so clip80 becomes clip80a.dv (this took a long time as I have lots of these)
Reran iMovie, it began remaking the thumbnails, but at the end it crashed (sent report to Apple).
BUT upon restart the event was all fixed.
Hope this helps someone someday (until an update fix is posted)

My ipod had a little rain damage and screwed up but later on fixed it and was fine. Later on that day the connect to itunes screen popped up and when i connected it it said "your ipod has a passcode" and then says try again. can anyone fix this?

It will erase all of the information on your ipod. When was the last time you synced your ipod? If recently you should be able to recover most of your files. If not you will only be able to have the files since you last synced it to your computer. Can it sync it ignoring the passcode? If so try that. If none of these work you may just have to plainly restore it or put it in recovery mode.

Disable "McAfee Site Advisor" extension which was just updated to 3.4.0, which probably took it out of the addons block list.
* "Ctrl+Shift+A" > find McAfee Site Advisor and use "Disable", and then restart Firefox.
* Do a Google Search no problem
* It seems that if you re-enable Site Advisor again, and restart Firefox you are okay. At least you know where to look if you get the error again or Google searches slow down.
