I purchased the book book Final Cut Pro 6 by Diana Weynard and it is a basics book overview of FCP However it comes with CD and I have downloaded the CD to my hard drive and when i open the files in
FINAL CUT PRO 6 it says:
FILES FORMAT IS TOO NEW FOR THIS VERSION OF THE APPLICATION.
I did go to the website and download the updates.

I am so confused? I dont get it? I just downloaded 10.5.5 of OXS and I opened up the files that came from the CD and it is still not working? WHats going on?

I have seen this same thread and now answer. I would appreciate some major help from the top users on here! thanks guysthe projects included with this book were built with and for FCP 6 ... if you do not have FCP 6 then its no good to you.
what version of FCP are you running? with FCP open, choose *Final Cut Pro* menu *> About Final Cut Pro* and see what version it says there in the splash screen -

Hard Disk Error with Final Cut Pro
Hello,
I'm hoping someone can help out. I recently upgraded to the latest version of FC Studio. I'm going into FC Pro to start a new project, and I'm using a scratch disk I have always used in the past, and I'm suddenly now getting the following error that pops up when I set FC Pro to this scratch disk:
The selected disk is formatted using FAT32 which has a 4GB file size limit. Using it as a scratch disk will lead to unpredictable behavior when using or creating larger files.
Can someone explain? Is there something I need to do?

What a great idea.
As Nick pointed out, you need to reformat (Erase in Disk Utility speak) the drive and set the format to MacOS Extended if you don't want issues.
Be warned that Erasing (aka reformatting) the drive will delete all material on the disk. Anything you want to save needs to be moved to another drive first.

BEST WISHES SIRso was the material captured with "device control" with logging or did you use "capture now." If you used "capture now" you might try exporting the clip (or just the section you need as a selfcontained quicktime with the same settings and then bringing that file into fcp and applying the speed change to that clip.

Error messages during editing with Final Cut Pro
Hello,
I am working with Final Cut Pro for the first time, editing my first indie movie project. The software normally works fine and when I started this project it ran fine for a while. But the software is now operating increasingly slow, to the point where it won't let me advance frame by frame. And I am getting several error icons popping up in the viewer window and the clip window to the right and I don't know what they mean. One of the icons is a little yellow triangle with a black exclamation point in the middle. Another is a little whi circle with a black letter x in the center. Another is a small green circle with a check in it. Does anyone know what any of this means? Could I be out of ram on the hardrive? I noticed that the changes occurred as soon as I did ctrl + z to undo an edit - it went haywire right after that. I would greatly appreciate any tips, thoughts, suggestions. Welcome to the wild and wacky world of DVD's and Mpeg2!
Here are a few things that might help.
it seems to want everything as a QT. This presents size limitations.
Not really, iDVD simply takes the QT files that you feed it and uses its own compressor to encode them to mpeg2 files. As long as your source material is not over 2 hours iDVD can handle it.
I'm planning to export from fcp using Compressor in the hope of fitting everything onto one disc
You can do this, but you might find it simpler to simply export a QT reference movie from FCP and drag that into DVDSP. DVDSP will then use compressor to create the mpeg2 files that you need. I say this because some find compressor a little intimidating at first. (I know that I still do.)
Now, go find the manuals that came with your software and start reading, DVDSP is a powerful program and the manuals are the best place to start.

What I suggested, is just 'basics':
compose a few elements.
Get inspired by other videos you notice around.
To animate 'elements', use keyframes.
To apply 'overlays', green-screen/color-key is a basic procedure…
To prep stills, a designated pic-processor is of fundamental need… although, even MacOS built-in Preview.app allows creation of 'knock-outs'/transparency… in case, you're shy to invest a few $$ for Pixelmator.
It looks maybe complicated - it isn't!
Don't try it first time for some serious projcect… but creating your very own Xmas-scenery is a lot of fun… plus, you learn a lot about FCPX and its many hidden gems…
Final word:
Catch some nice, own pics with your cam! … snowy trees, 4 candles and some cookies, a frozen window, illuminations in the streets, that crazy neighbour with his 50.000Watts of garden decorations .... Just add a charming title - done. Simplicity rules! …

Is you're autosave folder on a drive that's not formatted macosextended? You set the location for the autosave folder in system settings which can be found in the FinalCutPro Menu. Also, the best way to trash fcp preferences is using Digital Rebellion's Preference Manager

The figures you mention only make sense on your intranet. Are you still using the same wireless router. The verizon one is somewhat limited as far as max wireless-n performace. For one thing it only has a 2.4 radio. I like many people who wanted wireless-n performance before they even added a wireless-n gigabit router, have my own handling my wireless-n network.
