Can anyone help with these kernel panics?

I work for the NHS.  Have spent most of my salary on Adobe Premiere Pro using a Intel Core Mac OS 10.5.8 which is supposed to be enough for the system requirements.  Have spent all day shutting down my computer unable to start the software.  If it does start it freezes and tells me to restart.  This is not acceptable.  Can anyone help??? Adobe cefrtai nly don't want to is there ahtyone out there with any solutions?  I ahve checked the hard drive it is fine, have done all the usual checks to no avail. Cannot find anywhere to talk to Adobe, their website is a minefield of Groundhog Day!
I have the same problem with Photoshop purchased last year as part of a creative package.  This is really annoying!

The software versionas are as follows.
Adobe Photoshop CS5 version 12.0.4
Adobe Premiere Pro CS 5.5 version 5.5.0
I hope that is more use.  As I said, the software is successfully installed, but I cannot open Premiere Pro.  Photoshop does open occasionally but rather like Russian roulette.
I also have the Creative suite and Dreamweaver is no problem, neither is Indesign.  This makes no sense to me I would be grateful for any help.  I have checked the hardware and the system is ok.  I have tried re-installing the software after un-installing it but that made no difference.  I obviously have turned the machine on and off because of the black veil that descends upon the screen during the kernel panic.  Premiere Pro has alo frozen everything rather than causing a panic too. HELP!

I appears that someone sent the original message with your account as the sender through a Verizon outbound server. Whether this was spoofed or they actually have your account information is unclear.
Probably safer to go ahead and change your password and Secret Question/Answer, as well as run a virus/spyware scan on any computers you use to check your mail.

  • Can't deal with these kernel panics... Should I cave and buy a new SSD?

    Specs: OSX.8.2 / ADATA SX900 256GB SSD / 15in Mid-2010 MBP / No longer under AppleCare
    Problem: Intermittent kernel panics
    What I believe:
    - Source of issue is SSD
         - Took laptop to Apple and 3rd party Apple Certified Specialist, both showed clean ext hardware tests except for SSD, but could not pinpoint issue.
         - Problem travels with drive from body to body.
    - ADATA Firmware/Sandforce SSD does not play with OSX.8.2
         - Kernel panics are not patterned. Never point to specific recurring processes/threads... almost always background/native operations (windowserver, Finder, iTunes, etc). Never during overheating or high graphics/CPU stress. Rarely—but not never—during 3rd party operations.*
    - It is NOT my RAM
         - Reset PRAM, no change.
         - Memtest clean.
Other things I have done to try to be proactive:
    - Clean re-install of OS.
    - Erased disk, partition. Repaired both before reinstall of OS.
I am still experiencing the kernel panics and it is making it impossible for me to work. Should I cave and buy an OCZ SSD? Thanks in advance.
*I am not pretending to be an expert at deciphering panic/thread crash reports, but I believe I have done enough research to get the gist and to have seen a pattern if there were any. If you would like me to post my most recent reports, I would be happy to!

  • Can anyone help with these annoyances

    Hi,
I've used Logic since 2.4 and enjoyed its continued development and improvement up through Logic 7. Since the major retooling in Logic 8, I feel that it has become more buggy, less professional and genuinely less pleasurable to use. I've found work arounds (or just given up) on some things that used to be easy or even just "doable" in older version... Maybe some of you out there have some solutions to the following annoyances in Logic 9.x
    I wish it would/could;;;
Return to last play position while in record. (worked fine on Logic 7)
Copy Drag consistently instead of just moving the part (even though the help tag says "copy" it only drags, then often puts it a measure ahead of where I put it) (worked fine on Logic 7)
Not Record audio while recording midi if an audio track is in "input" (worked fine on Logic 7)
Could resize screen objects and things like I really want them to look (worked fine on Logic 7)
Not have major lag times for things like renaming objects, deleting tracks in the arrange page, bouncing, opening 3rd party plug ins, (worked fine on Logic 7)
Have freedom to put the loop browser anywhere I want (worked fine on Logic 7)
Get key commands to work consistently (worked fine on Logic 7)
Could assign record names globally instead of only on the track being recorded (worked fine on Logic 7)
Have a visible tool bar for things like "pencil" "fade" "text" etc instead of a pull down menu (worked fine on Logic 7)
Have visual feedback when I've armed the "Fade" tool (worked fine on Logic 7)
Be able to choose fonts and sizes on individual score text objects (worked fine on Logic 7)
Not have help tags constantly bugging me when I'm resizing or moving notes and objects (worked fine on Logic 7)
Be able to create a new "audio object" in the environment (instead of having to copy something else and then reassign its purpose (worked fine on Logic 7)

    Dan,
I can commiserate with you on most of these annoyances. Let's just say that we're kindred spirits in this regard. Hopefully I can help you alleviate some of these things that stick in your craw. I'll (try and) limit my comments to things that can be changed (as opposed to those which are "permanently broken"):
Could resize screen objects and things like I really want them to look (worked fine on Logic 7)
Plugin windows can be resized in L9. Aside from that, I'll (try to) stick to limiting my comments re those things that cannot be changed.
Have a visible tool bar for things like "pencil" "fade" "text" etc instead of a pull down menu (worked fine on Logic 7)
The variety of tools has been reduced (for your safety and well-being) to the lucky number of three, and that's only if you have the right click assigned as a tool. Otherwise you are limited to two. So it's still a palette, though compared to what we used to have it's kind of hard to swallow. In case you didn't notice, there's a pun in there. I almost missed it myself.
I have my "V" key programmed to call up the toolbox. Its close proximity to the spacebar (play/stop) and the CMD key (for assigning a tool to) make it an ideal way to change tools without having to mouse all the way across the screen to access the unpalatable palette.
Be able to choose fonts and sizes on individual score text objects (worked fine on Logic 7)
This is still possible using the slow-to-appear, WYSI-not-WYG, icky-looking, way-too-small-font "Fonts" editor in the score editor. *Text > Fonts...* And because it's no longer even remotely as easy to resize text I've gotten into using the resize tool, as well as setting up various boilerplate text styles using the text styles editor. One thing that's nice though (hey, it's not all bad) is that you can import text styles from other projects.
Not have help tags constantly bugging me when I'm resizing or moving notes and objects (worked fine on Logic 7)
These can be disabled in the Logic prefs: *Prefs > Display > General*
Be able to create a new "audio object" in the environment (instead of having to copy something else and then reassign its purpose (worked fine on Logic 7)
You can still do this. Environment: *New > Channel Strip > Audio*
The best thing about Logic 9 is flex editing. Othewise, gimme back L7 any day (minus the bugs, of course).

Those error message (I think) are the result of opening an email from this support site. The guys that develop Mozilla support are not all that skilled in email they say. But it could be any add-on that that source. It is Thunderbird HTML sanitizer dropping unsafe commands. it may not in fact indicate any issue. My error console lights up like a Christmas tree with similar errors when I open RSS feeds.
So what is your real issue? You don't look in the error console without reason as a general rule.

  • Can anyone help with iPlayer and Sky Mobile?

Ok, I'm so close to giving up with this useless phone. There are 3 apps on my N97 which give me a constant headache.
    BBC iPlayer
    Sky Mobile*
    YouTube
*I should point out that I only use Sky Mobile to set recordings on my Sky+. I do not use it for, nor have any desire to use it for actually watching Mobile TV.
All of these apps work absolutely fine over my home WiFi network. It's when I try to use them over 3G (my Vodafone Live! connection) that I start running in to trouble.
All 3 give me connection problems, errors, and simply refuse to load half the time when on 3G. I got so annoyed I just did a hard reset the other week, and magically all three started working again. However, now 2 of them are failing me again. YouTube (touch wood) is working fine at the moment, but iPlayer and Sky Mobile just aren't.
iPlayer sometimes works. But sometimes I get script errors (unable to load content), and sometimes it says something about checking my connection settings. I wouldn't mind but it's not actually possible to access any options for the iPlayer. Even in application settings there are no options you're able to set.
Sky Mobile simply flat out refuses to work ever on 3G. But it did after I did a hard reset for a couple of weeks, now it just stopped working! It wont even load. It just gives the error message 'Unable to connect to network - please check connection settings" or something along those lines.
I've tried so many different things. Tried setting my internet connections to 'always ask', tried setting it to default to Vodafone Live! all the time, tried setting my video streaming settings to WAP, all sorts. Every combination I can think of.
I just can't wait to get rid of this phone. I've put so many people off buying one. They see it and think it's all swish and cool, and I just say 'Don't. You'll regret it'. I can't wait for my contract to be up so I can upgrade to an iPhone now Vodafone have got them.
Can anyone help with these problems? Thanks in advance, but I don't hold out much hope...

    About iPlayer.
Have a chat with Vodaphone. Streaming iPlayer over 3G IS allowed on Vodaphone contract, unlike my O2 contract. As long as your contract allows it, and you have the correct AP address, it should be fine. Vodaphone should be able to give you the setting.
    Mine only works over Wlan.
FWIW, "... streaming over 3G is not currently available on iPhone handsets on any mobile network".
p.s. Just to be clear. You say  "Tried setting my internet connections to 'always ask', tried setting it to default to Vodafone Live!".
iPlayer uses the Nokia browser "Web". So that's where you should make the setting "Ask when needed". It should then offer you the choice of whatever you've set in Destinations> Internet> then select whatever you've chosen as your GPRS connection.(as advised, or sent to you by Vodaphone).

  • Help with a kernel panic?

    Hi, all,
My new (two weeks old) Macbook pro has been randomly restarting, sometimes two or three times a day. I talked with Apple Support and they had me repair the disc permissions, which wound up being quite lendthy ... something like 147 pages in Word when I copied and pasted the report. I've not had one since, but I'm hoping to get this nipped in the bud as I'm a photographer and need to get this guy stable so I can start taking it on jobs with me. I'm not tech savy enough to understand a panic report, so can anyone help with this one:

Get rid of Sophos Anti-Virus software you have installed. Use the uninstaller or:
    Uninstalling Software: The Basics
Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash.  Applications may create preference files that are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder.  Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space.  If you want you can look for them in the above location and delete them, too.
Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application.  In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder.  You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder.  You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder.  Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
Some applications may install a startupitem or a Log In item.  Startupitems are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder.  Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences.  Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab.  Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the "-" button to delete it from the list.
Some software use startup daemons or agents that are a new feature of the OS.  Look for them in /Library/LaunchAgents/ and /Library/LaunchDaemons/ or in /Home/Library/LaunchAgents/.
If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term.  Unfortunately Spotlight will not look in certain folders by default.  You can modify Spotlight's behavior or use a third-party search utility, Easy Find, instead.  Download Easy Find at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.
Some applications install a receipt in the /Library/Receipts/ folder.  Usually with the same name as the program or the developer.  The item generally has a ".pkg" extension.  Be sure you also delete this item as some programs use it to determine if it's already installed.
There are many utilities that can uninstall applications.  Here is a selection:
    AppZapper
    Automaton
    Hazel
    CleanApp
    Yank
    SuperPop
    Uninstaller
    Spring Cleaning
Look for them at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.
For more information visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on removing software.

  • Can anyone help with email in my old G4 17"  ??

My G4 17", bought December 2004, is considered an antique by Apple, and no longer supported. (I now mostly use my early 2011 MacBookPro.)
But the big screen on by G4 is very useful for Sibelius 4, the music program I mostly use (Sibelius 7 in the MacBookPro - but much too fussy for me.)
Sibelius 4 in the G4 continues to work flawlessly.
But my email account recently sort of died. It's  POP account (whatever that means). I can no longer receive messages, BUT I can still create and
send new messages, and of course forward any saved message to myself in the MacBookPro.
ALSO:  if I have to shut down the G4, it usually reopens with a horizontally divided display, and it usually takes many restarts before it will open
will a full screen display (seems to reopen correctly more often if left in a cool place overnight.)
Can anyone help with one or both these issues? I want to keep the G4 going as long as I can.  BTW, I don't use it for browsing anyone, Safari installed,
because it is now so slow. The MacBookPro handles all that for me.
Thanks very much, James Johnson in Plattsburgh NY (where it is still cold and wintry, o f--k)

To RCCHARLES: THANKS !!!!  I did the safe boot start, following the link you provided, then waited, and waited, and waited, and ---
Well that is interesting. Amoung other things safe boot does:
-- check and fixes up your file system.  The files system allows you to keep files on your harddrive.
-- Does all video rendering in software.
You could have a one time glitch or harddrive is slowly failing.  If you never replaced the harddrive, it is time for a new one.
You may want to consider getting a new harddrive.  The easiest way is to get an external drive.  No disassembly of the machine is required.
You need an external Firewire drive to boot a PowerPC Mac computer [ a few G5's will boot from USB ].
I recommend you do a google search on any external harddrive you are looking at.
I bought a low cost external drive enclosure. When I started having trouble with it, I did a google search and found a lot of complaints about the drive enclosure. I ended up buying a new drive enclosure. On my second go around, I decided to buy a drive enclosure with a good history of working with Macs. The chip set seems to be the key ingredient. The Oxford line of chips seems to be good. I got the Oxford 911.
    I'd give OWC a call. 1-815-338-8685.

    Hi,
To configure your ODBC DataSource, go to Control Panel ---> DataSources(ODBC) (If you are in a Windows environment).
Select the tab System DSN. If you have not added your data source, then do so by clicking on the Add button. If you have added the datasource, click on the Configure button to configure it.
Give the datasource name, then the database name.
You have to give the hostname, service name and server name. I guess, in most cases, the datasource name and host name will be the same, service name and server name will be the same. If you are using TCP/IP, the protocol will be onsoctcp.
There will be a file named Services under C:\WINNT\system32\drivers\etc where you have to give the port number for accessing this server.
It will be like this <service name> <portnumber>/tcp
    Hope this helps...
    best wishes,
    Nish

Hi can anyone help with this issue regarding my wireless magic mouse? When im on google chrome and scrolling down the page i always have youtube running in the background but the audio cuts/spits/pops can anyone help me with this?

The figures you mention only make sense on your intranet.  Are you still using the same wireless router.  The verizon one is somewhat limited as far as max wireless-n performace.  For one thing it only has a 2.4 radio.   I like many people who wanted wireless-n performance before they even added a wireless-n gigabit router, have my own handling my wireless-n network.

  • Can anyone help with associate my new iPhone with iTunes? My other old devices are there, but I see only how to delete one, not how to add one.  Thank you.

Can anyone help with associate my new iPhone with iTunes? My other old devices are there, but I see only how to delete one, not how to add one.  Thank you.

iTunes Match is a subscription system that allows you to upload your own music (e.g. coped from CDs) to the cloud so that it shows (in the cloud) on your devices and computers without having to sync/copy it.
Automatic downloads allows to, for example, buy an app on your computer's iTunes and have it automatically download on your phone without having to connect and sync it or go to the Purchased tab in the App Store app on your download and download it yourself - but doing that, going to the Purchased tab and redownloading an app, should get it associated.
But no, I'm not aware of any problems that not having it associated causes.
