Can anyone recommend a decent wireless printer for an iMac?

Just purchased a 24" iMac and now want to add a wireless printer... I already have a dedicated photo printer so just need this for basic letters and the occassional colour picture etc...Any ideas?

There is only a select amount of printers with Wi-Fi. I have a Photosmart C6180 by HP. It works great and I have had no problems.

  • Can anyone recommend a good wireless router for both Mac and PC?

Hello! I am looking to purchase a wireless router, and was told that Linksys in general (and a specific model in particular) isn't Mac-friendly. I need a nuetral router that works well with my MacBook and my Dell laptop (which I need to purchase a wireless card for). I also have a PC but I can just connect it via Ethernet cable.
    Any suggestion is greatly appreciated!
    MacBook 1,1   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

hi - Linksys wireless routers work fine with macs (i
    have one)...
perhaps the reason you heard they're not mac friendly
is because the software they give you to configure
the router only runs under wintel.... but you really
    don't need that software...
one can have total control over the setup simply by
firing up a web browser (on a machine either directly
connected to the router via ethernet or w/ a wireless
    connection) and going to http://192.168.1.1/
that'll get you talking directly to the router...
i'm actually not aware of any routers that really
don't work well w/ macs... so i think you can just
choose based on features & price...
    cheers
    p.s. Welcome to Apple Discussions!
I currently am trying to set up a linksys router. Unfortunately, I dont know what to do once i am at the router's config page to make it start working. Can you help me out? thanks.

  • Can anyone recommend a good wireless webcam?

I wouldd like to set up a wireless web cam in my 8 month oldd son's room as a baby monitor, as the ones you can buy in the shops tend to interfere with my existing wireless network.
I found a couple of suitably cheap ones (under £100) from Linksys, but they are only windows compatible (the video viewer is a windows app). DLink make some, but I am not sure if they will work with Safari.
Can anyone recommend a decent, reasonably-priced wireless webcam thhat will definitely work with a Mac.

I can't recommend a specific camera but do know which ones to avoid. As you have found out avoid cams that require windows to setup. Also avoid wireless cameras that don't support WPA security. Most cams don't have security or they use WEP this means anyone could be outside your house looking through your camera!.

  • Can anyone recommend a good instruction book for intermediate Mac users?

I have been using Mac for 3 years now so am not a total beginner, but still need help in many areas of OS X use. These forums are brilliant and thanks to the willing help from more expert members I have learnt a lot ( thank you), however there are times when just having a book open in front of you is the easiest way to get to grips with something. Can anyone recommend a good user manual for people like me who don't need a real beginners guide but also don't want a mind numbing, in depth, advanced text. I already have Maria Langers Visual Quickstart Guide which is useful but is exactly what it says, a quick start, and David Pogues Missing Manual which I find a little frustrating as he seems to fall short of explaining exactly how to do something after he says it can be done!
I guess what I am really after is a clearly written book that is good for beginners and more advanced users alike, with screen shots to show you what you should be doing.
    Grateful for any suggestions.
macbook white 2ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   512mb ram and 60gig hard drive,

    Hi again,
Many thanks for the feedback and the star!
For troubleshooting, Dr Smoke's Troubleshooting Mac OS X eBook is invaluable. Again, I have the Panther edition. I haven't, yet, felt the need for the Tiger edition with so many of the tips available free via his FAQs.
The only drawback, of course, is that when one is in a fix and possibly unable to boot up, the e-book isn't accessible unless one has a copy on another Mac.
    Have fun,

  • Can anyone recommend a decent, totally free sound equalizer app or program to work across different applications on my Mac?

Can anyone recommend a decent, totally free sound equalizer app or program to work across different applications on my Mac?
    I am running OS 10.9.2.
    Thanks!

NeoOffice was a OS X adaptation of OpenOffice because there wasn't a OS X version when the "Mac" came back from the dead basically.
Sun which owned OpenOffice, was bought by Oracle, which all the developers left finding out Oracle wasn't going to support OpenOffice anymore.
The developers of OpenOffice went and formed LibreOffice, which got some serious cash donations and now is the new fork of OpenOffice.
So if you have files in NeoOffice, OpenOffice or Microsoft Office, they will work just fine in LibreOffice.
LibreOffice is getitng all the attention now that's it's truly "free" and many more developers worldwide are looking at the code and contributing to it.
So LibreOffice is what you need. It's also cross platform, Linux, OS X or Windows. AND free. (but you should contribute funds)

  • Can anyone recommend a good messenger bag for a macbook air 13?

Can anyone recommend a good messenger bag for a macbook air 13"?

    I agree with Shldr,
I have a MBA 11" and a MBA 13", and use that one for my 13" Air, and the smaller version for my 11".
I have spent at least $600 chasing down the perfect bag(s). There isn't one, AFAIK. The Incase bags are my favorite.
I do prefer the older version of that bag though (a single velcro flap for the double compartment side). The new version holds a tad less. (I gave my new version to my MIL), and use the older one I have.

  • Can Anyone Recommend A Good Protective Case for an 80G ipod?

Can anyone recommend a good protective case for an 80G ipod?

The Griffin Survivor is a military-grade case that I use. It's $40 and I purchased it at Best Buy. It has a rubber piece that covers the charging port, but can be easily removed for charging while still in the case. The only downside of the case is because of the added girth, it makes the iPod unusable with iHomes or other docks unless you take it out of the case.

  • Can anyone recommend a decent USB Fax/Modem for the Macbook (Intel) ?

Hello, after reviewing the feedback on the Apple USB modem, I see that most cannot fax, a few claim they have done limited numbers of faxes. All complain about the slower connect speed recognition (as compared to earlier Apple internal modems).
Has anyone found a decent USB powered modem or Firewire powered modem which can fac and surf ?
Thanks in advance for any leads,
    San

I thought I closed this. ATI would not comment. I will try Apple Support but believe I am wasting time.

  • Can anyone recommend a decent case for the N95?

    Hiya,
I always keep my phones in cases, to protect the screens, and I bought one with my N95, but it only covers part of the screen.
Without wanting to advertise anyone - I've used Krusell cases for years now, but their case for the N95 seems awkward, because you seem to have to open a flap somehow to operate it... this obviously sounds like a nightmare.

  • Can anyone recommend a free maintenance utility for panther ?

I have an iBook running OS 10.3.5 Panther. It is not running as well as it used to despite clearing the hard drive of old files. I think it would benefit from some kind of a maintenance script utility that would clean and optimise the system. This is a spare computer that we use mostly for surfing, email and iTunes, my main computer is a newer Macbook. Does anyone have any recommendations for a good 3rd party downloadable utility for Panther, preferably free or shareware, that I could install and run periodically?

    Hi 12frets56!
"Can anyone tell me what "BSD Subsystem installed" means? .... How would I know if my iBook has this?"
BSD Subsystem is a Unix tool, and numerous applications require it to function.
If I find a more technical definition, I'll post it!
Unless you performed a custom install, and chose to not install it, the BSD subsystem is installed by default when you install Mac OS X.
EDIT: Here ya go Berkeley Software Ditrubution!
Navigate to HD > Library > Receipts. If BSD is installed, the file BSD.pkg will be present.
If it is not installed, repost for further instruction.
As Texas Mac Man (Tom) posted, insufficient available space, can cause performance issues, system corruption, and possible loss of data.
Depending on Mac system usage habits, it is a general recommendation, to keep 10% to as much as 20%, of the Total capacity, available at all times.
Review the suggestions, in the documents that I have linked to below.
    Authored by Dr Smoke:
Problems From Insufficient RAM And Free Hard Disk Space
Freeing Space On Your Mac OS X Startup Disk
Have you ever run any routine Maintenance procedures, as suggested in the articles linked to below?
Mac OS X 10.3/10.4: System Maintenance, authored by Gulliver
Maintaining Mac OS X, authored by Dr Smoke
Is the Mac shutdown overnight, or does it run 24/7?
As posted, if you turn the Mac off nightly, the Background Maintenance Tasks, are never run.
The CRON Commands, can be run manually as well, using Terminal.
I also use MacJanitor when necessary.
INSTRUCTIONS TO RUN CRON MANUAL COMMANDS
    Quit all applications/programs.
Navigate to HD > Applications > Utilities.
Double click on Terminal, to open.
    At the prompt, type:
    sudo periodic daily
    Press Return.
Enter your Admin password when prompted, then press Return.
This will execute the daily script that is sheduled to run every night.
When completed, repeat this procedure, but change the command to:
    sudo periodic weekly
This one rebuilds a database or two, and usually takes somewhat longer to complete. It is scheduled to run once a week.
    Repeat again, with command:
    sudo periodic monthly
Or they can all be run in one pass, which is preferable, with this command:
    sudo periodic daily weekly monthly
When the tasks complete, and return to the prompt, you may quit Terminal.
Restart the Mac, and run Repair Permissions.
TO REPAIR PERMISSIONS ON THE STARTUP DISK
1.Open Disk Utility, located in Applications/Utilities, and select the startup disk in the left column.
    2.Click First Aid.
3.Click Verify Disk Permissions to test permissions or Repair Disk Permissions to test and repair permissions. (I never "Verify". Just run "Repair".)
Rerun RP, until the only messages reported, are listed here Spurious Permissions Errors Using: 10.3.x, authored by Michael Conniff.
When "Repair Permissions" is complete. Quit "Disk Utility".
After you have done some Spring Cleaning, you can use the 10.3.9 Combo Update, to upgrade to the final version.

  • Can anyone recommend tips and best practices for FrameMaker-to-RoboHelp migration ?

Hi. I'm planning a migration from FM (unstructured) to RH. I'd appreciate any tips and best practices for the migration process. (Note that at the moment I plan to import the FM documents into, not link to them from, RH.)
For example, my current FM files are presently not optimally "chunked", so that autoconverting FM file sections (based on, say, Header 1 paragraph layout) won't always result in an optimal topic set. I'm thinking of going through the FM docs and inserting dummy paragraphs with a tag somethike like "topic_break", placed in more appropriate locations that the existing headers. Then, during import to RH, I'd use the topic_break paragraph to demark the topics. Is this a good technique? Beyond paragraph-based import delineation, do you know of any guidelines for redrafting FM chapter file content into RH topics?
Also, are there any considerations/gotchas in the areas of text review workflow, multiple authoring, etc. after the migration? (I've not managed an ongoing RH doc project before, so any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!
    -Kurt
BTW, the main reason for the migration: Info is presently scattered in various (and way to many) PDF files. There's no global index. I'd like to make a RoboHelp HTML interface (probably WebHelp layout) so it can be a one-stop documentation shop for users.

    Jeff
Fm may produce better output for your requirements but for many what Rh produces works just fine. My recent finding re Word converting images to JPG before import will mean a better experience for many.
Once Rh is set up, and it's not difficult, for many its printed documents will do the job. I would say try it and then judge.

  • Can anyone recommend a good external harddrive for iTunes backup?

I would like to backup my files externally. I really dont know too much about this stuff. Can anyone make a suggestion for an external harddrive? Thanks!

I have an AcomData 120GB, a Western Digital 200GB and a Fantom 250GB external HD. All are working well. LaCie is another fine brand. I usually buy the major brands by price. Expect to pay $0.50 or less per GB (my last ExHD was $90 for 250GB).
If you are very concerned about longevity, then look at the Seagates as they carry a 5-year warranty (at least on the internal laptop drive that I have purchased).

  • Can't connect my Canon Wireless Printer to my iMac

I am new to imac and I am having trouble trying to setup my wireless Canon Pixma MG8150. Its not being recgonised by my imc even though I have the wifi connected to the printer. Can anyone help? Do I need the Airport Express Base Station for this?

I have Canon Pixma MP560 wireless printer and scanner. Have you installed the Canon software and drivers on your iMac? You can go to Canon website and find the software based on your printer model. Maybe this is what you need: http://www.canon.co.uk/Support/Consumer_Products/Products_OLD/MG8140MG8150.aspx? type=download&page=1
You can filter by software and by your operating system. I typically install all of them except the My Image Garden because as far as I know it's for organizing photos.
After installing, the Wireless Setup Assistant can be used to help you connect to your printer. Or you can also add/remove printers and scanners in your System Preferences.
The printer and your iMac need to be connected to the same router so they are on the same LAN.
