Can anyone recommend a good firewire hub?

We have a 2009 imac with one firewire 800 port, also I will soon be buying a new 15 or 17" Macbook Pro. I have run into problems trying to connect several firewire devices up at the same time due to there only being the one firewire 800 port. For instance, I might have a firewire audio interface, a DV camcorder, and a firewire hard drive that I use together when editing music and video.
I reliable powered firewire hub would make life a lot easier.
Can anyone give me some recommendations?
Thanks.

something like this might work for you:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/431605-REG/KramerVS_81FW_VS_81FW_8_PortFireWire.html#features
+The VS-81FW 8 Port FireWire Switcher from Kramer is a simple yet versatile bi-directional switcher for 6-pin FireWire (IEEE 1394) data signals. This unit allows you to connect up to (8) devices and then enable a connection between any two ports as needed. Use this solution to save time, space, and money by connecting your varied devices under the management of a single switch. This switcher is ideal for small digital video editing systems and data switching systems.+
+It works with mechanical (passive) switching, so no power is required. Transfer rates will fall within the range of 100, 200, and 400Mbps. This unit's small footprint allows you to mount up to (2) units side by side in a 1U space in your rack with the optional RK-81 adapter.+

  • Can anyone recommend a good firewire 6 pin powered hub?

Ideally UK sourced so I can connect at least three minimac HDD's to my macmini by 6pin firewire.
    Thx.

I have 4 fw hard drives connect to my mac mini without the need for a hub. I just daisy chained them. This sill leaves me 1 spare fw port on 1 of the hard drives.
However I have used powered firewire hubs before and the best one I found for a reasonable price was made be sitecom modem number FW009. I got one in a Maplin store but you can them on amazon for £29.

  • Can anyone recommend a good Firewire PCi card for G5??????

I want to expand my number of Firewire ports on my G5 dual 1.8ghz. Anyone know which is meant to be the best in terms of Compatibility, quality and price. I would like a couple of 800 and 1 more 400 preferably.

I would agree with that, go SATA if you're an island. That's what the majority of my system is set up with.
However, I also have a DSR-11 connected via firewire, and I get firewire drives shipped to me by clients, so I need an additional firewire bus. I bought the cheapest fw400 card I could find, and haven't had any issues yet. I think I spent $35 at CompUSA.
Are there issues that would make me want to buy a better card?

  • Can anyone recommend a good firewire 800 card?

    Hello,
I have a 2003 MDD G4 Dual 1.25 and was wondering if someone can recommend a nice FW800 card for my system. Why am I asking and looking for FW800? Because it is much faster and produces more efficient results. Although, my machine is a FW400, also is there a way to get an adapter which can fit into one of my FW400 and convert it to a FW800? In other words, an adapter which would plug into a FW400 port but on the other end be a FW800 port?

    Hi-
No adapters. FW 400 can be adapted to FW 800 (transfer is still FW 400 speed), but FW 800 cannot be adapted to FW 400 and get FW 800 speed....
The only way is to use a FW800 PCI card.

can anyone recommend a good 2TB external drive for my iMac 10.9 ?

The Griffin Survivor is a military-grade case that I use. It's $40 and I purchased it at Best Buy. It has a rubber piece that covers the charging port, but can be easily removed for charging while still in the case. The only downside of the case is because of the added girth, it makes the iPod unusable with iHomes or other docks unless you take it out of the case.

  • Can anyone recommend a good instruction book for intermediate Mac users?

I have been using Mac for 3 years now so am not a total beginner, but still need help in many areas of OS X use. These forums are brilliant and thanks to the willing help from more expert members I have learnt a lot ( thank you), however there are times when just having a book open in front of you is the easiest way to get to grips with something. Can anyone recommend a good user manual for people like me who don't need a real beginners guide but also don't want a mind numbing, in depth, advanced text. I already have Maria Langers Visual Quickstart Guide which is useful but is exactly what it says, a quick start, and David Pogues Missing Manual which I find a little frustrating as he seems to fall short of explaining exactly how to do something after he says it can be done!
I guess what I am really after is a clearly written book that is good for beginners and more advanced users alike, with screen shots to show you what you should be doing.
    Grateful for any suggestions.
macbook white 2ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   512mb ram and 60gig hard drive,

    Hi again,
Many thanks for the feedback and the star!
For troubleshooting, Dr Smoke's Troubleshooting Mac OS X eBook is invaluable. Again, I have the Panther edition. I haven't, yet, felt the need for the Tiger edition with so many of the tips available free via his FAQs.
The only drawback, of course, is that when one is in a fix and possibly unable to boot up, the e-book isn't accessible unless one has a copy on another Mac.
    Have fun,
    Adrian

  • Can anyone recommend any good books on leaning actionscript for flash?

Can anyone recommend any good books on leaning actionscript
    for flash?
    Intermediate level
I have been using flash for about 2 years more as a hobby
than anything else, some websites etc but now I realise I am going
to need to learn more actionscripting to do what I want, I have
come to terms with the simple stuff like goto – basic
variables – load mov – enough to programme up website
    navigation.
I ideally want to learn more about the dynamic side of flash,
mostly for designing user interfaces and websites etc
I’m after a book that doesn’t get too heavy too
fast yet I’m a little past the more basic functions
    Any thoughts?
    Cheers

  • Can anyone recommend a good app for designing and printing labels?

I have just switched from pc to mac and have pages on my macbook but it does not have a label function (please apple sort this out its the only major flaw!) so can anyone recommend a good app that will do what a pc does? I do not really want to pay £85+ for office for mac just for the word program

One way to find an app at the App Store is to use keywords.
Type   print labels   in the search field top right corner of the App Store window then press Enter or Return on your keyboard.
Click one of the apps listed. Always check Requirements under Information and definitely read customer reviews before purchasing and make sure there is a support link available in case you need to contact the app developer for questions.
This forum is mainly for troubleshooting the App Store.
For feedback for software designed for printing labels, try posting your topic in the Mac OS X community here.

  • Can anyone recommend a good audio analyzer beside Waves PAZ & SpectraFoo

Can anyone recommend a good audio analyzer beside Waves PAZ & SpectraFoo.
Inspector is not what search. It should be exacting.
    Thanks martin

Hello Martin. I use Elemental Audio's Inspector XL and it works great for me, especially the K-System metering and FFT analyzer. I wish you could resize the FFT window. Now that it is a roger nichols digital product it requires ilok. The other analyzers that I considered before choosing inspector xl were paz (blah), spetrafoo (too much too soon, but maybe later), audioease periscope (not universal binary yet, no k-system), and bias master perfection suite's reveal (also not universal binary yet and works only inside peak and no k-system.) All of this info is from the north american summer so it is probably out of date. My favorite analyzer is Steinberg's Wavelab, it is very configurable and it's easy to setup for monitoring your stereo mix thru another computer, but it is windows only.
It sounds like you really need one of these...

One of these pro tools plugins allows you to select and modify fft just like other software allows selection and editing of waveforms. Awesome. EXPENSIVE!

  • Can anyone recommend a good messenger bag for a macbook air 13?

Can anyone recommend a good messenger bag for a macbook air 13"?

    I agree with Shldr,
I have a MBA 11" and a MBA 13", and use that one for my 13" Air, and the smaller version for my 11".
I have spent at least $600 chasing down the perfect bag(s). There isn't one, AFAIK. The Incase bags are my favorite.
I do prefer the older version of that bag though (a single velcro flap for the double compartment side). The new version holds a tad less. (I gave my new version to my MIL), and use the older one I have.

  • Can anyone recommend a good UPK library structure for Oracle financials 11.5.10.2 (using UPK 11.1)?

Hi, Can anyone recommend a good UPK library structure for Oracle financials 11.5.10.2 (using UPK 11.1) please?

If you are using the application server that comes with Oracle Applications - you probably need to use the JDeveloper version that comes with that one too. (The OAF forum will have more info on this).
If you are using JDeveloper 10.1.3 then you can use a stand alone OC4J 10.1.3 to deploy your applications - and save yourself the hassle of messing up with your apps server.
