Can anyone recommend a simple Notes/To Do List app

Hello,
I am going crazy looking for a very simple To Do List / Notes app for my iPhone that does what I want it to do. I have spent hours in the Apps store and downloaded over 12 so far, and have not found the right one. Can anyone recommend one that:
-allows for unlimited lists (To Do Home; To Do Out; Grocery List; Xmas Gift List etc).
-allows you to manually SORT these lists by dragging them above or below the other items.
-allows you to enter unlimited items (or a large number of items) within each list
-allows for more than one line of text for each list item (not one line with ". . . ."after it)
-allows you to manually SORT these sublist items.
-opens directly to the page with all lists
-is attractive (even a cute, "mom" way is fine)
-has the auto spelling corrector
I don't care about due dates, syncing with calendars or any other fancy stuff. I basically want it to do what the basic yellow Notes app does, but just with sorting capability.
Thank you very much!
Sarah B

If a site is sending you spam, it has nothing to do with browsing the web; they can't track you down or discover your email address or anything about you, so you don't need a proxy server. They got your email address somewhere, so if your email provider is Gmail or even Yahoo! Mail, you can block them from sending based on their domain and then you won't see anything from them. If your email provider is your ISP, they can block those for you if you call them and ask them to do it.

  • Can anyone recommend a simple example for displacementmapfilter? I just want a simple expand effect.

As the title says, can anyone recommend any simple displacementmapfilter examples?
I have a bitmap image of a sleeping animal that I would like to add a small effect to that will make it look like it is breathing. I'm guessing this should be pretty simple with displacementmapfilter - a spherical distortion tweened over time over the animal's chest.
    Any suggestions?

i don't think there's anything simple about the displacementmapfilter. i've tried to explain it before but i've never had the feeling that i was able to convey understanding.
here's the displacementmapfilter at work:  www.kglad.com, click snippets, click displacement.
    here's the source code:  www.kglad.com/Files/forums/displacementMapFilter_AS3.fla
p.s.  there's commented-out code in there that used a squeeze and bulge function during my early experiments that could probably be used by you.

  • Can anyone recommend a decent, totally free sound equalizer app or program to work across different applications on my Mac?

Can anyone recommend a decent, totally free sound equalizer app or program to work across different applications on my Mac?
    I am running OS 10.9.2.
    Thanks!

NeoOffice was a OS X adaptation of OpenOffice because there wasn't a OS X version when the "Mac" came back from the dead basically.
Sun which owned OpenOffice, was bought by Oracle, which all the developers left finding out Oracle wasn't going to support OpenOffice anymore.
The developers of OpenOffice went and formed LibreOffice, which got some serious cash donations and now is the new fork of OpenOffice.
So if you have files in NeoOffice, OpenOffice or Microsoft Office, they will work just fine in LibreOffice.
LibreOffice is getitng all the attention now that's it's truly "free" and many more developers worldwide are looking at the code and contributing to it.
So LibreOffice is what you need. It's also cross platform, Linux, OS X or Windows. AND free. (but you should contribute funds)

  • Can anyone recommend a reliable external backup product that is not super slow?

I need a reliable external backup drive to store thousands of commercial photography projects that continue to add up over time. I've been using WD MyBook drives in 1 & 2 TB sizes and just purchased a Seagate 5TB drive. It is very slow on my system and seems to slow down my MAC. I have 16GB of RAM and that is all my system can hold. Can anyone recommend a solution for speeding up my backup processes and also not slowing down my system during backup?
Any help is greatly appreciated.  - Geo

I am still in the Middle Ages as far as connectivity goes.  USB2, Firewire and eSATA serve my needs.  Though my MBP has a Thunderbolt port, I have not taken that step.
Take a look at what OWC has to offer:
    https://eshop.macsales.com/search/thunderbolt
This just a sample but should give you a good idea what is available.  Naturally there are vendors as well.
Note that Thunderbolt hardware can be daisy chained, so not feel that you are restricted to two devices.
    Ciao.

  • Can anyone recommend an app for downloading bank statements (.csv/.qif) directly on to my iPad

Can anyone recommend an app for downloading bank statements (.csv/.qif) directly on to my iPad that will allow me to analyse my money flow....no account management needed. I just need something v simple that can take my statement and produce graphs etc....thanks

1, Photos are stored within your computer's iTunes, you just use iTunes as a means for trasnferring them to the iPad. Connect your iPad to your computer and select it on the left-hand side of your computer's iTunes, and on the right-hand side there should be a series of tabs, one of which should be Photos - if you select that tab you can then select which photo folders to sync to the iPad. There is a bit more info on this page. You will need to sync all the photos that you want on the iPad together in one go as only the most recent photo sync remains on the iPad - synced photos can't be deleted directly on the iPad, instead they are deleted by not including them in the next photo sync.
If you want more control over the photos that you copy to the iPad (e.g. the ability to delete them directly on the iPad, re-order them etc) then you could consider a third-party photo-management app instead of the built-in Photos app e.g. Photo Manager Pro
2, options include Apple's Pages app for Word documents and Numbers for Excel spreadsheets.  And from third-parties apps such as Documents To Go ('premium' version) and QuickOffice Pro HD.
3, You first need an app on the iPad that supports the type of file that you want to copy to it - the iPad doesn't have a file system like a 'normal' computer, everything has to be associated with an app. As to how you then get the file to your chosen app will depend upon what the app supports - different apps will have different ways of copying their content to/from a computer e.g. via the file sharing section at the bottom of the device's apps tab when connected to iTunes, via wifi, email, dropbox etc.

  • Can anyone recommend a Java 3D Book

Can anyone recommend a Java 3D Book. What I'm looking for is one that isn't too expensive below 30 ($40) and is quite uptodate with the new 3D API. Or is there a book that is coming out soon, which is said to be good.
    Thanks

I looked for 3d book, there are not that many in bookstores, bought one "Ready-to-Run Java 3D" Wiley by Kirk Brown and Daniel Petersen.
It's friendly but not very good at explaining things. Tutorials here on the site is much more helpful with simple but very useful examples.
I wish I did not spend money on the book.

  • Can anyone recommend me a Northbridge fan replacement?

I have a MSI K8N Neo4-F nForce4 and recently i have been experiencing random crashes and lock ups which i think are due to the northbridge fan failing (it was making horrible noises).
I tried to replace this with the Asaka heatsink/fan combination thing but it didn't fit under the graphics card as there is only about 1.5cm vertical space available. Can anyone recommend a replacement suitable for this motherboard? Preferably a cheap one. =)
Also -i don't know much about chipset- is it safe to run the computer without a northbridge fan installed assuming i don't do anything intensive like games or whatever?
    Thanks in advance.

I was sniffing around some other forums,(as you do), when I came across this post. It sounds intresting, and may be worth giving it a try.

"Repair your noisy cpu and system fans
This is a fix that will last for a long, long time.
Buy some graphite powder and some oil at an auto or hardware store. They come in different packages. For oil, the best is the pen-type as they are easy to handle and only give a small amount at a time. Just about any oil in a pen format will work fine. The graphite powder comes in small plastic tubes. But make sure you get graphite powder, not graphite oil, its too thin for this job! So you need graphite powder in a small tube and oil in a round "pen" that can be squeezed out and placed just where you need it. Also, when the oil is used up in the "pen" you can open it and add your own oil.
First, clean the fan blades off real well. If you have a heatsink with the fan then clean the heatsink off as well. You can even use a bit of your oil and some q-tips for cleaning if needed. Then, take the small circle, it usually has a name on it, but its in the middle of the fan. Peel one edge up carefully and put a very small amount of oil in where you lifted the label up. Now add some graphite powder in the same place where you put the oil, add as much or a bit more of the graphite powder than the oil. Clean off excess oil and graphite and push the label back where it was. You may need a very small amount of duct tape to hold the label in position and to prevent leakage. This is important if the fan is going to "sit up" as opposed to lying flat.
Now put the fan back where you want it and when it starts spinning it may be noisy for a few seconds until the graphite\oil works its way in. Then it will stop and it will stay stopped for many years and you may very well not need to buy a new fan after all!
I experimented a lot with this and this is the very best way to quiet all those fans and have them work well. I have always been a big fan of those removable ide hard drive trays that you can buy. But the fans are the pits, they get noisy real fast. So i had to find a way to fix them as they are very expensive and hard to replace. Now i don't have to. Combo of oil and graphite is the very best, by far. One caution, graphite stains worse than
oil, so be careful! I'm talking about staining your clothes and hands.
You can use this system with all CPU fans, video card fans, system fans, and even fans inside power supplies. But one word of caution, its easy to open a power supply and take out the fan, but do be careful as there are voltages there can can hurt you badly. If you don't know what you are doing then wear rubber gloves to get the fan out and to put the fan back in after the
    repair!
Trust me, this will work. If the fan spins my method will work for years and I have even fixed fans that were stuck and wouldn't spin! This is better done with the fan on the table but in those cases where you cant or don't want
to take the fan out of the system, that's where the "pen" with the needle comes in again, but i still find a way to get some graphite in as well, graphite is what makes the oil last a long time! And graphite is also an oil, but you need both together for maximum effectiveness. Oil by itself will only last a few weeks or so and then evaporate, and the fan will get noisy again. Its the graphite powder that does the long term job. The oil really only helps to spread the graphite powder around really well so the graphite can do the job!
Hope you do as well as i have with this info!"
    End Quote.
    Edit - Additional Info
The type of northbridge fan used on some MSI boards, eg K8N Platinum & Diamond etc, require that you remove the fan from the board first (you will have to remove the motherboard to do this). This is because the top of the shroud is attached from the bottom by two tiny Phillips type screws. Once you have removed the shroud, very gently prise off the fan from the motor assembly. There is no need to try and remove the three other tiny screws that secure the fan motor in place to the bottom half of the shroud. Once removed, you will see that under the fan is a small plastic pin that holds the sleeve bearing in place.

Can anyone recommend an external storage device to supplement my mac book air?  I already have a time capsule but want the new device to replicate the data on that so ideally would like a device that i can connect to the time capsule through a cable.

    Hi CJR
I'm not sure how Time Capsule can be replicated onto your external drive but there is a USB port on the back of TC that can be hooked up to any recent external drive.
Another thing to think about , besides a Time Capsule failure, is the theft of your Time Capsule, so it might be a good idea to consider separating any redundant back-up from your Time Capsule or both my be stolen.
TC will back up until full and then begin deleting the oldest back-ups.  Mine is a 2TB Time capsule.
My back-up plan is as follows:
    1.  Macbook Air back-up on Time Capsule though Time Machine backs up everything - I think it's about every 30 min or so.
    2.  Contacts, reminders, appointments, notes, email are backed up through iCloud.
    3.  iTunes and non-itunes purchased music is on iMatch (and no need to back-up) and any non-iTunes music is backed up on an HP external drive (in case Time Capsule dies)
    4.  Photos are on my MacBook Air and are backed up on my HP external drive.
    5.  Office documents (Excel, Powerpoint, Access etc) are stored in a Skydrive app (like iCloud) and Skydrive syncs these docuemnts with the MS  cloud and my old PC and does not alter their native format like storing in iCloud would do.
    Cheers

  • Hi, Can anyone recommended software to import dvd to iMovies. I need to import about a dozen homemade DVD's and edit them into a single DVD comprising the 'best bits'. How best can I do this. I have an external hard drive available for the job

Hi, Can anyone recommended software to import dvd to iMovies. I need to import about a dozen homemade DVD's and edit them into a single DVD comprising the 'best bits'. How best can I do this. I have an external hard drive available for the job

You need to convert the VOB files in the TS-Folder of the DVD back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need mpegStreamclip:
    http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
which is free, but you must also have the  Apple mpeg2 plugin :
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/D2187Z/A/quicktime-mpeg-2-playback-component-f or-mac-os-x
(unless you are running Lion in which case see below))
    which is a mere $20.
Another possibility is to use DVDxDV:
    http://www.dvdxdv.com/NewFolderLookSite/Products/DVDxDV.overview.htm
    which costs $25.
For the benefit of others who may read this thread:
Obviously the foregoing only applies to DVDs you have made yourself, or other home-made DVDs that have been given to you. It will NOT work on copy-protected commercial DVDs, which in any case would be illegal.
And from the TOU of these forums:
    Keep within the Law
No material may be submitted that is intended to promote or commit an illegal act.
Do not submit software or descriptions of processes that break or otherwise ‘work around’ digital rights management software or hardware. This includes conversations about ‘ripping’ DVDs or working around FairPlay software used on the iTunes Store.
If you are running Lion or later:
    From the MPEG Streamclip homepage
The installer of the MPEG-2 Playback Component may refuse to install the component in Lion. Apple states the component is unnecessary in Lion onwards, however MPEG Streamclip still needs it. See this:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3381
To install the component in Lion, please download MPEG Streamclip 1.9.3b7 beta above; inside the disk image you will find the Utility MPEG2 Component Lion: use it to install the MPEG-2 Playback Component in Lion. The original installer's disk image (QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg) is required.
The current versions of MPEG Streamclip cannot take advantage of the built-in MPEG-2 functionality of Lion. For MPEG-2 files you still need to install the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component, which is not preinstalled in Lion. (The same applies to Mountain Lion even though that has it preinstalled.) You don't have to install QuickTime 7.

  • Can anyone recommend a product to delete duplicate songs?

I now 20,445 duplicate songs I need to clean up. I cannot possibly imagine doing this manually, nor can I delete my library and start over b/c burning the whole thing was entirely too cumbersome to begin with. I've heard of some products like Dupe Eliminator that can do this for you, but I'm not too tech savvy and am afraid this could inadvertently delete my entire library.
Can anyone recommend a product to remove duplicates from my hard drive?

Yes, you can use the program I wrote to do it for you.
I recommend you backup your Library file first (not all the music files themselves, just the Library files in <pre>My Documents\My Music\iTunes\</pre>
Download the "EXE" file from here:
    http://home.comcast.net/~teridon73/itunesscripts/index.html#itunesremoveduplicates
It will download as a ZIP. Open the ZIP and run the EXE (teridonsitunesscripts.exe). From the menu, select itunesremoveduplicates (15).
When asked, select the Library playlist (number 1).

  • Can anyone recommend a Hard Drive handycam?

Apologies for reposting this, however my original post was misleading. I had put HD handycam (which in the real world means high def) when I meant HDD (hard disk drive).
    Here is my corrected post:
Can anyone recommend a Hard Disk Drive handycam that will be compatible with imovie 08? I've read an awful lot over the past week about the difficulties people have had compatibilities between hd cams and up to date Macs. I have also read that imovie 08 is not a particularly good editing tool any longer. If I then add Final Cut Express, will there similar compatibility issues?
Thanks in advance for your help.

  • Can anyone recommend a USB print server for both Mac & Windows?

After spending at least 20 hours trying to get my Macbook to print to a Windows XP shared printer, I am giving up and going the print server route. Unfortunately there seem to be a LOT of options and some are >$100. I want to be sure to find one that works for both Mac and Windows XP. Can anyone recommend a print server based on experience?
It can be hard-wired to the network (does not need to be wireless) and only needs one USB port. Also, it does not need to be "multi-function" compatible.
    Thanks in advance!

Unfortunately, Apple just started using the CUPS printing system ~4 years ago. With CUPS drivers, you can print to all the standard comm protocols, the way drivers work in Windows. But except for Brother's, NO non-postscript printer driver on OS X was written to use CUPS. Instead they are using Carbon, the OLD OS 9 legacy programming interface. In that, they get to specify exactly which protocol is supported - and that's nearly always ONLY USB.
So, we have to rely on third party CUPS drivers. See if Gutenprint supports yours:
    http://www.linux-foundation.org/en/OpenPrinting/macosx
or else, you may need to use printfab:
    www.printfab.net
About print servers - they nearly all support "standard" protocols, which OS X (with CUPS drivers) can print to.

  • Can anyone recommend a good instruction book for intermediate Mac users?

I have been using Mac for 3 years now so am not a total beginner, but still need help in many areas of OS X use. These forums are brilliant and thanks to the willing help from more expert members I have learnt a lot ( thank you), however there are times when just having a book open in front of you is the easiest way to get to grips with something. Can anyone recommend a good user manual for people like me who don't need a real beginners guide but also don't want a mind numbing, in depth, advanced text. I already have Maria Langers Visual Quickstart Guide which is useful but is exactly what it says, a quick start, and David Pogues Missing Manual which I find a little frustrating as he seems to fall short of explaining exactly how to do something after he says it can be done!
I guess what I am really after is a clearly written book that is good for beginners and more advanced users alike, with screen shots to show you what you should be doing.
    Grateful for any suggestions.

    Hi again,
Many thanks for the feedback and the star!
For troubleshooting, Dr Smoke's Troubleshooting Mac OS X eBook is invaluable. Again, I have the Panther edition. I haven't, yet, felt the need for the Tiger edition with so many of the tips available free via his FAQs.
The only drawback, of course, is that when one is in a fix and possibly unable to boot up, the e-book isn't accessible unless one has a copy on another Mac.
    Have fun,
