Can anyone recommend some server monitoring software
I am looking for some sort of software tool that will allow us to monitor the processor load similar to Activity Monitor but remotely. Server Monitor does not provided that particular function. Can anyone recommend one?
Thanks

I cannot afford an iMac, can anyone recommend a widescreen Monitor for my 15" MacBook Pro. It will be used mainly for iPhoto and Aperture. TF
Pair a wireless KB with the laptop and all should be well when you attach the laptop to the iMac and invoke TDM. But as Denny mentions, it does seem like the waste of a good iMac to use it in just this configuration. Why is the laptop primary?

Can anyone recommend some software for creating HDR photos?
I would like to try to create some HDR images but this requires software to merge the bracketed shots into one. Could anyone recommend an application that will do this? Also, any online tutorials or training resources would be useful.
thanksWhen you ask about software for creating HDR photos? a big question is whether you want special-effects-like imagery HDR or whether you want to realistically simply improve dynamic range of otherwise well-shot images.
The best way to improve the dynamic range of otherwise well-shot images is to buy a Nikon D3. For those without the $5k for a D3, Photoshop layers are an excellent solution. You make duplicate lightening screen or darkening multiply layers and erase and adjust opacity of various layer parts to achieve what you want.
Photomatrix is probably the most popular for special-effects-like HDR imagery. There is a good thread among Photoshop pros discussing HDR, with examples, at

Can anyone recommend good html protection software
Hi all
Does anyone know of a good html protection program or
extension?
I need to stop text & images being copied off my web site
by disabling copy & save as from the right click menus, disable
screen grabs, disable selecting blocks of text etc.
I've seen a few bits of software online but don't recognise
any of the companies so am a bit unsure of handing over my credit
card details. Does anyone use one they can recommend?
Also, are there any implications to using the software in
terms of search engines reading the text, or anything else
negative?
Many thanks.
DaveThanks everyone who replied.
In general terms, my question was 'without detrimental effect
to a search engines ability to read my pages, and without
introducing any browser incompatibility/accessibility issues, can I
stop or make it harder for the text/content to be copied', and is
there a software program I can use to do this?
This is partly a coding question, but also a wider issue that
I'm sure will affect many online businesses and I've not seen much
useful coverage on the subject. I know this might not be the right
place to ask this question, but does anyone have any experience of
deterring copying through legal action or other non coding related
measures?
To answer the question about why people copy our content
We promote a certain product/service range (I don't really
want to say who exactly we are), most of which isn't unique, and
can be found on other competitors web sites. (A similar example
would be if you looked at the descriptions used of products on
musical equipment retail web sites. The descriptions all come from
the manufactures, so what ever web site you go on, the description
is the same.)
What we've done within our industry is to expand on &
improve the information we’re sent by our suppliers, to help
us sell the products better, and to help customers get to the
important information quicker.
We're leaders in what we do and I pay a team of copy writers
to ensure the content we are sent from our suppliers is re-written
to a high standard, focusing upon the needs of our customers. We
have spent considerable time and money researching how user
friendly the delivery of product details are on our web site, and
it's one of the things that sets us apart. The investment of time
and money into this obviously costs us money, but it also gives us
the competitive advantage.
Many aspects of our web site design, layout, content, even
keywords, are copied by our competitors. Usually the other web
sites look different enough to not be classed as ‘passing
off’ as us, but all the same, important layout features are
obvious copies. However, what I find most worrying is that some of
our competitors are now copying product/service reviews from our
web site which have been provided to us by our own clients. They
are posting the reviews with our company name removed and using
them on the same product pages on their own web sites.
Because the reviews relate 80% to the products, they
obviously feel they are doing nothing wrong, but often the reviews
also relate to the customer service we have offered, and this then
creates the impression that they offered the same level of service
as us, which we know not to be true. In turn, if our customers shop
around, the impact of our positive reviews are diluted by the fact
that the same reviews show up elsewhere, and the customer looses
faith that the review is genuine, or that it was us who provided
the excellent service.
I’m sure you’ve got the point now anyway!
Because the content is 'similar' to what the product
suppliers send out to everyone, it's difficult to take an action
over the copying as it’s not always 100% blatant.
Because the copying relates to over 1000 product/services, I
don’t think searching for unique text strings as Alan
suggests below would be viable.
It seems that the consensus is that it’s not really
possible to stop copying?
One of the websites I was unsure about paying money to was
www.antssoft.com/htmlprotector/index.htm
They claim that they can stop anyone from copying your web
site content to their PC clipboard, stop print screen, disable
right click copy menu option, and a lot more. They also claim to
NOT effect search engine intelligibility.
However, they are based in china, not affiliated with anyone
I’ve heard of, and I don’t want to risk getting ripped
off or compromising my web site.
If anyone else can contribute to this or who knows of an easy
way to code a page to make copying much harder (even if not 100%
effective) and without introducing any negatives, please add to
this discussion.
Many thanks. -
Can anyone recommend some good handlebar or bike mounts for the iphone 6?
I'm looking for an iPhone 6 mount that does not cover my screen and will be stable for long rides. Does anyone have any recommendations?
I would have to recommend the Tackform Freedom Bike Mount. It has an adjustable grip so you can customize the tension on your phone. It also gives you full access to your speakers and ports, etc. Works with any handlebar. ( It comes with a few rubber strips to custom fit to the bar size. Ultra Light design. It also comes with this rubber safety sling that grips the corners of the phone to provide additional stability. I originally got it to us the MapMyRide app and I've put about 2,000 miles on my bike so far and haven't found any issues.

Can anyone recommend a good OCR software that doesn't cost too much?
I want to scan a document and convert text to a Word file. I can find very few options when it comes to OCR software for macs. I don't want to pay too much as I won't be using enough to warrant a high price. But I don't want to key-in a lot of copy by hand. All the reviews I found are from over a year ago. Any suggestions for recent OCR versions?

Can anyone recommend some good headphones for iPhone?
I know because of the recessed headphone jack not all headphones will work. Just for music playing, what's a good pair for around $100-$150? Thanks for any help!
I recently bought a pair of Sleek Audio SA1 headphones for $80 and like them extremely well. They sound far better (to me anyway) than my much more expensive Shure buds. Sleek has other models and they also have a wireless option that I haven't gotten yet, but intend to.

Can anyone recommend a USB print server for both Mac & Windows?
After spending at least 20 hours trying to get my Macbook to print to a Windows XP shared printer, I am giving up and going the print server route. Unfortunately there seem to be a LOT of options and some are >$100. I want to be sure to find one that works for both Mac and Windows XP. Can anyone recommend a print server based on experience?
It can be hard-wired to the network (does not need to be wireless) and only needs one USB port. Also, it does not need to be "multi-function" compatible.
Thanks in advance!Unfortunately, Apple just started using the CUPS printing system ~4 years ago. With CUPS drivers, you can print to all the standard comm protocols, the way drivers work in Windows. But except for Brother's, NO non-postscript printer driver on OS X was written to use CUPS. Instead they are using Carbon, the OLD OS 9 legacy programming interface. In that, they get to specify exactly which protocol is supported - and that's nearly always ONLY USB.
So, we have to rely on third party CUPS drivers. See if Gutenprint supports yours:
http://www.linux-foundation.org/en/OpenPrinting/macosx
or else, you may need to use printfab:
www.printfab.net
About print servers - they nearly all support "standard" protocols, which OS X (with CUPS drivers) can print to. -

Can anyone recommend easy to use, cheap, storyboarding software. Thanks.
Can anyone recommend easy to use, cheap, storyboarding software. Thanks.
Actually, the software I've seen that does this is pretty cumbersome, and since we require a storyboard at the school I teach a class or two at, the students I teach have tried many... they still end up drawing them; they say it's a lot easier.
However http://www.storyboardartist.com/artist.html seems to be the most popular. http://www.atomiclearning.com/storyboardpro has a freebie... if you type Storyboard Software in google... ya get a pile of them. might look for some demos?

Can anyone recommend a lightbox software that is completely 508 compliant?
Can anyone recommend a truly 508 compliant lightbox software? By that I mean, you can access the lightbox with the keyboard only (no mouse action at all), i.e. you can tab through the lightbox gallery, access any links for more info within the pop up box, close the last box in the gallery, not have the screen reader read all the html in addition to captions, and make sure that the screenreader knows there is a lightbox there and announces it.
I bought Ajatix Lightbox v.3.1.6.0 plug in for Dreamweaver as it said it was 508 compliant. It makes beautiful lightboxes but it has some problems in that I cannot close the last lightbox in the gallery without tabbing through the rest of the site and landing back on the page link and reloading the page. Also accessing a link within the pop up is just as problematic. You have to tab through the rest of the site again until it lands on the link. Long winded. Perhaps this is as good as it gets? I've been back and forth with Ajatix who have tried to help but there doesn't seem to be a clear cut way to make these items easier.
Just thought I'd ask to see if anyone else had run into this?
Thanks in advance!
PamFocus is the main problem in Modal Windows. I think that unless you have the skills to code your own, it's probably best to avoid them.

Can anyone recommend a print server that will work with Mac & PCs?
Can anyone recommend a wireless print server that will work with Macs and PCs ?
Wireless has a disadvantage for many Powerbooks. Unless yours supports 802.11g, it is not secure. So it must support Airport Extreme on the Powerbook to have a secure wireless network. Also many printers only support 802.11b, making matters worse, as that is not secure. See my FAQ* on printing:
http://www.macmaps.com/printersx.html
Some printers have ethernet ports, which would allow you to use a Wireless ethernet bridge that is 802.11g. Similarly you could use one on the Mac, and then you'd have your wireless printing. Ask the printer manufacturer what might be possible. The last thing you want is an insecure network, especially if you are at most 4500 meters/1500 feet from someone who could pick it up and log into it that you don't want.
