Can anything be done to ensure/improve iCloud mail reliability in sending/receiving?

The tl;dr version of my question: is there anything I can do from an end-user perspective to improve the odds that my iCloud mail messages will be properly delivered to others, or incoming mail properly received by me? I like iCloud, but this is something I never worried about with Gmail, though I would prefer to stay with a single service for personal information management (i.e., iCloud) as opposed to going to Gmail or Outlook.com for mail/contacts/calendars.
The slightly longer version:
I was formerly a Gmail user for many years. All of my hardware is Apple made, so iCloud makes sense, including for mail. I have multiple third-party email accounts forwarding to my @icloud.com address.
I have had intermittent reports of missing or delivered-to-spam messages which I sent from my @icloud.com address over the past couple months. Messages were sent from either the Mail.app on my MBP running Mavericks or from the native Mail app on iPhone. Software on both devices is always kept up to date. Messages appeared in my iCloud Mail sent folder without issue. No delivery delay/failure notifications were received by me for the messages which were reportedly not delivered.
The recipients in question had nothing to gain from lying and playing the "I never got the email" card. The destination addresses to which I was sending these messages were both institutional Exchange accounts (three delivered to spam, one not delivered at all) or Gmail accounts (one, with the recipient subsequently receiving my original message without issue when I forwarded it from my own separate Exchange account).
Thanks in advance.

For the first part, that does beg the question whether this is something that is more of a problem with iCloud than it is other providers, for whatever reason.
I'm not a huge fan of anecdotal "evidence" in general, but iCloud mail does seem to have the worst reputation for missing messages when compared to Gmail or even Outlook.com, at least going by a quick search. For other iCloud mail users, does this ever concern you? Any former iCloud users who left for similar reasons?

  • HT1689 Can anything be done if my iPod was stolen, and I still have it registered under my account?

I never unregistered my iPod from my account, and it was recently stolen.. If I still have the serial code, can anything be done? and how do I go about getting it back if I find where it is? All passwords have been changed, and I DID NOT have iCloud on.

Well since you failed to do anything to protect it such as Find My Phone and app and iCloud that doesn't help much either.

  • Can anything be done to change the white on grey color scheme in Bookmarks?

I just upgraded my Mac Book Pro to OS X Version 10.9.1. I was horrified when I got a look at what Apple has done to Safari!  I have macular degeneration - which means that my eyesight is slowly fading away.  Bookmarks was especially difficult because all of the bookmrks are shown with a white on grey color scheme.  And when the "new" Apple color schemes are not white on grey - they are grey on white.  I simply can NOT see anything which is white on grey.  OR white on ANY light color.  In order to be able to see anything, I need to have contrast.  For example, as I type on this page, the scroll bar is grey on white.  It has become almost impossible for me to find the scroll bar on most pages.  Previously, my scroll bars where usually bright blue.  I can see bright blue on white - but NOT grey on white.  I can read white letters on BRIGHT or DARK Blue -but NOT light blue.
Apple has made SO many strides in makes computers accessable to those of us who have no other choice except to deal with disabilities!  Can ANYTHING be done to change the white on grey color scheme which Apple has adopted throughout its system?
Now, in order to use my Bookmarks, I have to go to my Edit Bookmarks page.  Even that solutation is not all that helplful, because the lettering on the Edit Bookmarks page is so small.
Also - I discovered that the "new" Mail pages had the same problem.  For the most part, the "innovations" in mail make all of the pages too busy for me to be able to sort my mail or keep track of it in any way.  I had to choose to return to the "classic" mail option to be able to get a reasonable facsimile of being able to handle my E mail accounts!
And, of course, once again, the scroll bar on my mail accounts is also grey on white - so it takes a lot of searching for me to just find the scroll bar when I need to scroll down in an E mail!
ALSO - I was equally horrified when I discovered that the Upgrade to Version 10.9.1 made it impossible for me to visit some of my favorite music pages - most of which use MIDI files!  I can no longer hear any of my favorite MIDI music pages!  I TUNES, of course, is in love with people like Lady Gaga - the type of performers - and performances - which have no relevance to older Americans.
I do volunteer work at a local Assisted Living facility and one of the greatest advances we have been able to make with Alzheimers patients is the way in which Senior Citizens respond to music from their time period.  Unfortunately, most of the music which senior citizens prefer to listen to is music which has been preserved in MIDI pages.  A few weeks before I "upgraded" my Mac Book Pro - I could take my computer over to the local Assisted Living Facility and play music from Hymn Time's Cyberhymnal or the Angelwinks tunes - but I can NO longer do that with the current Apple "upgrade" in version 10.9.1 - because the music from those MIDI pages can no longer be heard by anyone!  The page comes up and you can see the writing - but no one can hear any of the music.  We understand that a group in Switzerland has been working on an APP for I Phones which DOES make MIDI files accessable - so surely it should be possible to provide a way for Version 10.9.1 users to listen to MIDI files, such as those provided by Hymn Time's Cyber Hymnal or by Angelwinks!
You will notice that I changed the font for this to Arial Black - primarily because I could NOT see what I was writing when I first began - because, once again, the color scheme was grey on white.

  • Can anything be done about the slowness??

I really am trying to invest heavily in Intune as a tool, but loading the admin console in IE takes about 10 minutes. Can anything be done about this? I don't imagine it is a client side issue but figured worth an ask.

I agree with Jason. It's not instant but certainly doesn't take very long either. I would suggest that you may have a Silverlight problem. Intune can be administered from any Silverlight-enabled web browser.

I have been trying to export a keynote powerpoint with voice over to quick time. It keeps crashing. Can anything be done?

Can you explain this better, there appears to be a strange work flow going on,  have you imported PowerPoint into Keynote or you are trying to export to PowerPoint?
There are many users who have trouble with a recorded voice over going to Quicktime.
Try this repair, its sorted out many similar problems in the past.
Complete all the tasks and in the order shown:
1  delete all the iWork applications if you have them, not just Keynote by using Appcleaner from Mac Update to           do this, its freeware
2  restart the Mac;   Apple menu > restart
3  immediately after the start chime,  press the shift key until you see the Apple symbol.
let it fully boot up,  it will take longer as the OS is repairing the drive
4  when fully booted, go to Applications > Utilities > Disc Utility; click on the boot drive  then First Aid tab and           click  repair disc permissions
5  when complete, restart the Mac normally
6  install Keynote from the Mac App Store
Please report back to let us know if this helped.

  • IPhone hardware failure in 1 yr 2 months! Can anything be done for replacement?

I had purchased an iPhone 5 in Nov 2012 here in India (Bangalore) for ~ Rs 45,000.
However for the past few months it started crashing mysteriously. For the last few days the frequency of crash increased to 20-30 times a day (from the previous 2-3 times a week). Recently after a crash, it rebooted upto the "Recovery Mode" screen only.
I tried with the latest iTunes to do recovery but it always failed at the _end_ of writing the new software. I even tried the DFU mode, but that too fails right at the end of writing the new software. Sometimes it gave error 12 and sometimes error 9. I've tried different USB cables just to make sure there was no problem there but to no avail!
I then showed it to the Apple service center folks here (service is provided by an Apple authorised service unit - Ample) but they too were unable to fix it. They said it was a "rare" internal hardware failure. They are asking me to cough up Rs 21,000 for a replacement unit!
It's barely 2 months out of the warrannty period when the dam phone crashed. This is real poor quality of service from Apple. Is there anything I can do to get my unit replaced? Is there an escalation I can do to get someone's attention in fixing my issue?
    TIA for any tips.

  • Can anything be done about this?

I have noticed lately an alarming increase in the number of posts with signatures including much private information that has to be later removed. In my ignorance, I tend to associate this with the increasing numbre of people posting from their mobile phones.
Regardless of the causes for this, can something be done to automatically prevent this from happening? As I understand things, once such data has been posted in a public forum such as this, the damage is already done and cannot be corrected simply by deleting the data from the post.
Of course, I am perfectly aware that the responsibility for not posting sensitive personal data lies with the poster, not with this site.

I guess I just regard spammers as a nuisance that's already dealt with by the anti-spam systems that must be in use by anyone who uses eMail.
That is why all of my POP accounts go through MailWasher, before even the headers are downloaded to my e-mail program.
Now, I sort of feel about the spammers, as I did about people, who stole radios, etc., from automobiles. Going way back, my wife's Saab had a premium sound system, with a security feature. If removed from the auto, it took a 20 character pass-code to ever activate again. I always felt that things would be better, if there was a satchel charge in the radio, where if one entered the wrong code three times, it exploded, with great violence!
Maybe we could work out something, along those lines, for spammers?

  • I don't understand how iCloud mail is being handled among devices

I've switch to my iCloud email as my primary email. I switched from gmail becaue I wanted something simple, and easy. But I'm very confused. I thought that using imap my mail apps on my mac, iphone, and the web (iCloud), would all look the same. But that doesn't seem to be the case. Look at this picture and you'll see what I'm talking about.
The first image is on mail.app on my mac.
    - Why is only Archive under iCloud? Aren't all these boxes (inbox, sent etc.) connected to corresponding folders in the cloud?
    - What is the difference between trash on my mac and in iCloud? And when I just click delete, which one does it use?
The second image is web mail on iCloud. This makes sense to me, and I don't know why this exact folder structure isn't everywhere, but it's not.
The third image is from my iPhone.
    - Why are their two draft folders? Why are there two sent folders?
I'm just really trying to understand how all this is working. As I said before, I though the same folder structure would be everywhere, but that's not the case. And I'm very confused. I just want to know how all this works, have it make sense to me. I'm sure it's simple, but it's over my head.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well, you said it yourself in the explanation of IMAP
The first image has the "Archive" folder under iCloud, because that is indeed coming from the IMAP folder from iCloud, as you can see the Archived folder in the 2nd and 3rd screenshot, that folder is just there with the icon. So again, you can see that iCloud IMAP'd folder of Archive appearing.
The structure is the same across all devices, just named differently. The only difference is "drafts" appears as "outbox" in mac mail when sending messages, or typing them up.
Those extra folders on your iPhone is local data. You can verify this by going to Settings > iCloud > Account > Advanced/Mail > Mailbox Behaviors. You'll notice "On my iPhone" and "on the server" - things that are under On My iPhone, will not be represented anywhere else but the phone.

  • ICloud Mail Reliability?

Hi, I was wondering about your general opinions on weither I should switch to iCloud mail from Gmail.  The only reason why I am hesitant to do this is because I know that iCloud had some issues when it came out.  I am very afraid of not getting some of my mail when I need it.
How has iCloud mail been lately?  Has it been reliable in the mid to latter part of 2012?
Would you switch from GMail to iCloud?  (I know google is far more powerful, but I just use basic email tools and folders.  And I just don't trust Google, I know its stupid..)

Forwarding gmail to iCloud wouldn't gain you anything except another failure point. However, if you want to do that to test it before droping gmail, then do it. Problem is that if you don't get a message, how are you going to determine if it's a failure in gmail site or iCloud?
You might be better off not droping gmail right away. But rather have some of your contacts use the iCloud address for a while for you to test it. Or forward it, and have some use the direct iCloud address for testing.
At some point you can choose one or the other. Or, just keep both. They can both be set up in Mail at one time.

  • ICloud Mail - will not send in Outlook 2010

    Hello:
I am desperate to get iCloud email working on my Win 7/Outlook 2010 machine. I have iCloud setup on my MacBook Pro and iPad using mail, calendar and contacts. On the Windows machine, I used the iCloud control panel to create the mail account setup.
It used my new @.me.com account as the user (only the name, not the @me.com).
    It used p02-imap.mail.me.com and P02-smtp.mail.me.com
Port 993 with SSL for sending and port 587 with TLS for sending.
The problem is with authenticating to the smtp server. It stops and asks for a password. I have tried every port/encription option and still no joy. It authenticates to the imap for getting messages.
I can login to iCloud's web app and use the MBP and iPad without an issue. It seems like hundreds of people are complaining about the same thing.
What is the ciorrect seetings for iCloud mail and why does the auto config fail?
    Thanks,
    Kevin

I agree, i can't understand why they don't just explain the settings.  And why they do not consistently work.
I too had issues, Outlook was "working" when i set up the @me account, then I started getting the annoying little internat email login popup (that does not go away).  Finally after many "experiments" i have it "apparently working" (will explain working with the following settings:
    accoutn type: IMAP
incoming server: imap.mail.me.com Port: 993: SSL
outgoing server: smtp.mail.me.com   Port: 25 (default): Auto
"Require SPA" is checked, but not on outgoing server.
It does now finally work without putting up the annoying internet email login.  However, now i discoverd a greater problem.
OUTLOOK IS NOT REALLY SENDING THE EMAIL.  It is putting it in the "sent" box as if it did, but no one receives it.  No errors, no warning.  And this dates all the way back to the time i started using the @me account.  My only work around is to use the stupid icloud mail browser app.  Really low in functionality compared to outlook.
This really affects the reliability of the icloud product and this is a serious error.  It really cuts down on the utility of the icloud and whewther it can be integrated with the PC at all.  Like everyone else i have also had the creation of multiple calendars and multiple contacts.
Apple better fix this quick or a lot of people will start using gmail, droid and google cloud products.
