Can Aperture not be set up to show a "Last Import" smart folder?

I'm trying to make the transfer from using iPhoto to using Aperture.
One thing I found really great in iPhoto was the smart folder that was simply set to show the last import, no matter when that import was done - whether it was today, yesterday or 6 months ago.
The reason I found this so handy was because I set my iPad up in iTunes to only sync the photos from that Last Import smart folder, rather than all my photos.
That way, every time I synced my iPad, I always had my most recent photos on my iPad, no matter when the pictures were taken.
Now with Aperture, I cannot see a way to create anything similar. The best I can do is to create a smart folder with photos imported within the last month, let's say.
But the problem with that is that if I haven't imported any new photos for over a month, then the next time I sync my iPad, then all my photos will no longer be on the iPad.
If I create a longer timeframe, to let's say 3 months, then I might end up with way too many photos trying to sync across, and that's something I don't want. I could end up with hundreds and hundreds of photos, and I don't have the free space to be able to do this!
When I used "Last Import" with iPhoto, then I always only had around 50 or 60 photos, because that's just generally how many I usually imported at any one time. Sometimes it was more, sometimes less, but the average worked for me.
So to sum up: Can Aperture not be set up to show a "Last Import" smart folder, regardless of date?
Or alternatively, is there any way I could "hack" or "trick" Aperture into doing something like this so that I always have a managable amount of the most recent photos on my iPad?

that does not seem to be an easy probem as you discovered.
Some Workarounds:
You might to use a smart album rule "Import session is" instead of a date range, but that will not be automatic.
Create a folder "recently added" and keep your recent projects inside that folder; create a smart album at the top level of that folder; move older projects somewhere else.
Or enable the Photo Stream - that is the current replacement for the "most recently added" album; it will (is supposed to) always show the most recent 1000 images.
If you are familiar with AppleScript, you can make Aperture run an AppleScript on import (Import Settings) to add your imported image to an album of new images. From time to time remove the older images.
Sorry, but no really convenient way to do it..

Make sure that you not run Firefox in [[Private Browsing]] mode.
In Private Browsing mode some menu items are disabled (grayed) and some features like visited links and others are disabled and not working.
You are in Private Browsing mode if you see "Tools > Stop Private Browsing".

Safari finder not showing photos last import

After importing new photos to the new photos app and them rightfully showing as a "last import", I then via Safari, try to upload said photos to Facebook via the last import tab which does not update to show the new photos without me restarting safari, any ideas?

I can't get the import to work as it did so seamlessly with iPhoto in Yosemite. I am waiting for a feature update. I have to download to my computer then go to the photo.app and import the image from the download folder. I switched back from Firefox to Safari in spite of the heavy draw on my drives resources Safari used just for this feature. Feel free to add your two cents to a feature request

Photo library shows multiple "Last Import" albums after upgrade

Following my upgrade to IOS6, the photo library now shows 3 blank Last Import albums, the ones created when you use the camera import connector. I tried to reset photo syncs to correct the problem, but they still remain.
Having imported an event, one of the 3 Last Import albums is now populated with pictures. The issue remains that there is the clutter of the two blank ones which seem to linger and probably will always be there unless there is some way to reset this.
So the question is, has anyone else seen this issue and how can it be corrected. I have not seen any other similar postings on this problem.

And then I finally located the answer and although a bit of a pain, this corrected the problem.
Solution: (Only practical with a few empty folders)
Shoot some photos with a digital camera using a SD card.
Put the SD Card in the Camera Connection Kit and connect to the Ipad. Import the images but keep them on the card.
Disconnect the CCK and hook up to your Mac with Iphoto running. Import the images and delete from the Ipad when asked.
Delete photos from Iphoto.
Repeat several times and you should notice that each time one more Last Import album vanishes from the Ipad.

Photos in last import, smart album, not in events, or photos

I just build a new iPhoto library, from a large folder of masters. It took many hours to complete, and all photos and events showed up that I imported.
I exited the program, had it commit all changes to database.
I reopened iPhoto and imported my iPhone's camera roll. I went into photos, and events, and none of the photos display there.
If I look in last import, OR if I look in a smart album from "last 4 weeks", all photos and videos are there.
What can I do to sort this? Again, I just built this new iPhoto library from scratch on the latest version.

I figured it out, but in case anyone else has simliar issues. I had imported a camera roll that dated back to July and had pictures up to November. Sorting by date, with event titles, that event inserted itself far below some of my more current photos. Going to VIEW while on PHOTOS menu and unticking EVENT TITLES, sorts photos purely on date. This is functionality I wanted. Hope that helps anyone in same boat.

Can I have text or a topic show when I click a folder

I get this icon when I link to a Word document. when I generate the TOC it shows as a folder and in my project when I click it I do not get text to the right, only a drop down of what's attached or in the icon. Is there a way to have folders or this icon to show text when you click them. I'm not sure if I'm stating this properly but I don't want a bunch of items in the TOC that do nothing other than be an organizer. I have tried to search the help documentation to see if I'm missing something and do not find any topics about this. I believe I have seen on other sites where I can click an item that will expand (I call this a folder) but when I do I not only get a list of other items or topics in that area but also text to the right in the body of the project.
Any suggestions?

While I was drafting this, both you and Ben posted some good comments. I'll go ahead and complete my post in hopes of shedding some light for others who may be wondering.
The Word linking icon is new to RoboHelp with version 8 and many folks are still getting the hang of it, so I'm glad you asked the question. As you have discovered, that green icon means that the Word document is linked and is up to date at this point.
One thing that will not be obvious unless you "look under the hood" in the Windows Explorer is that the icon actually represents a "real" subfolder that has been created automatically on your hard drive within the project folder structure.
That new folder is automatically created bearing the same name as the Word document. When you right-click to "generate" the .htm content, this is the folder that will contain that content (along with any graphics or .css files as a result of the Word conversion).
So moving along, if you use the "Automatically create TOC" feature to create your table of contents, the Word-created folder will be treated as a "Book" with whatever topics shown inside. (As you have discovered, you can workaround this manually with drag and drop.)
Within the Project Manager pod, the reason you don't have any text showing (or a topic displaying in the Design Editor), is that the Word-folder is not a topic and thus has no text. It is simply a container for the topics inside.
Now, if you don't like the idea of the Folder showing up as a Book in your TOC (or as an organizer as you put it,) you can simply move the Topic(s) inside the book to where you like and delete the "Book" icon in the TOC editor.
Or, as Ben aptly suggests, you can also edit the properties of a book to have it link to a topic of your choice by the method he describes in his post.

When I sync my photos to iPhoto from my iPhone 4S it like saves about 200 on my phone. I really don't like that because they're like really old and stay the same... Can you take that setting off? Or just make it you most recent pictures instead?

it had to do with Maverick/Aperture not supporting the same date formats as before in Smart Albums when I upgraded.
Smart albums based on dates have always been problematic, if you use smart settings that require a date string to be entered. How the date string will be interpreted, will depend on your settings in the System Preferences > Language&Text > Advanced > Dates formats and the "Region".
It is much safer to use "Calendar" rules in Aperture instead of "Date" rules with date-strings. Calendar rules will remain valid, if the region settings are changed in the System preferences.

How can I set the OS to remember my last import location?

I use Adobe InDesign CS5.5 and QuarkXpress 8 and I am eternally frustrated that the OS will not remember my last import location/folder when importing subsequent pictures from the same folder. InDesign can import several pictures at a time so it is not as frustrating as Quark with this issue. I am sure it is just a setting that I have to apply but I cannot find it. I seem to remember this was an option in previous version of the OS.
I have had a look at the InDesign and Quark preferences and cannot find this option
Can anyone guide me in the right direction?

Okay, cheers, so I guess it's stored in the application prefs. I just installed Snow L last week and it bothered me that everytime I opened a document I had to set my pref again. I wasn't aware that it was storing it for that particular app though cause I'm using so many differnt apps. But you are right, it does store for the individual app. Cheers for the answer!

Smart folder can't show recent folder correctly

Hi all,
I would like to quickly view/select the recently opened folders in finder but I can't really find any efficient ways to do it.
Finder->Go->Recent folders does show what I need, but limited to 10, and it's not convenient to click.
I tried to setup smart folder with "show folder only" and use raw query "kMDItemLastUsedDate >= $time.today(-2)". I suppose this should be simple but it didn't work well.
My finder shows files in column view, and Finder->Go->Recent folders always reflect what it should be, but the smart folder method just won't give me the folder I navigated, but sometimes show up folder I didn't actually opened (perhaps by other program, but these won't appear in Finder->Go->Recent folders).
Any one has ideas on this?
I will be very grateful if anyone can help.

PS: Default folder X is good, but I don't usually work in the open-save dialog style when working with files. Also finder shows the recent folders by alphabetical order but not ordering by time, which is kind of annoying..

Smart folder not showing all mails

I have a smart folder with these criteria:
1. Any Recipent contains "name"
2. Subject contains "film"
3. Contains attachments
All conditions must match.
And Include messages from sent is active.
The problem:
I discovered that a lot of mails that I had sent was missing.
When I opened the sent folder I could see the mails missing.
If I click on one of those mails it imediately shows up in the smart folder.
I tried to select all but that didnt help.
So I have to click manually on every mail that I send in the sent folder to get them in the smart folder. Not so smart?
I tried to delete the "Envelope Index" file and rebuild it. But it didnt help.
Any suggestions?

I have bad news for you. There appears to be a problem with the [Contains Attachments] condition in smart mailboxes. For smart mailbox purposes, Mail does’t realize a message contains attachments until you view its contents. I don’t think there is anything you can do about it other than reporting the problem here:
