Can Apple fix the ban on laptops with Virgin Airlines?

Virgin has banned Apple and Dell laptops on all flights unless the battery is removed...which of course makes it inoperable unless you are a millionaire passenger in their premium uberclass (then they'll give you an adapter to plug into). I guess they are afraid they'll catch on fire. Gimme a break!
This is huge affront to Apple customers. Apple: you should have someone parked in their offices trying to straighten this out. 5, 6 or more hours of downtime on a flight is ridiculous. Plus my 17" Powerbook ISN'T EVEN part of the battery recall.
Since most of us have registered our books with Apple we should be able to log in and get a certificate to print out with our name, model number and waiver to present to our lovely friends at Virgin. You should be able to put this together relatively quickly. Help fast. I'm traveling soon!!!

You can always ask for a refund, or see if they are willing to give you a free upgrade given the extenuating circumstances, or fly someone else. And if they won't give you a refund, tell them of your situation and that you need to use your machine for business. Honestly, the problem here is Sony's manufacture of the batteries wasn't that good for either Apple or Dell. Tell them they might as well ban Sony laptops too and walkmen. And if Virgin Atlantic won't give you a refund, see about arguing the matter with whatever you used to purchase the tickets. Hopefully you used a credit card.
Remember be firm yet polite when you discuss the matter with Virgin Atlantic or your travel agent.
Good luck! I know I'll not fly Virgin Atlantic.

  • Can apple fix the address format for india

I just realized today while inputting a mailing address in India, that iOS puts province before city. This is wrong because when you look up the address in the maps app it is trying to find a city by the name of the province. Also, if I send someone this address they will think the province is the city.

  • Can Apple fix the 12 bit audio problem once and for all?

I have had persistent audio problems from I Life V3 all the way up to I Life 06. Sometimes it is synch issues. Sometimes it is audio dropping out. I have been through the various forums and applied the various remedies with some successs, some failure. The basic problem is that I have an extensive quantity of Mini DV tapes dating back to 1997, most recorded with 12 bit sound (prior to 2002). Apple's basic stance has been, you must use 16 bit sound or I Movie and/or I DVD won't work and . And proposes awkward workarounds. Basically placing the onus on it's own consumers. Why can't 12 bit sound support be included in I DVD 06 and these persistent audio issues put to rest once and for all? Is there some overwhelming technical reason why it cannot be done?

I don't know about overwhelming, but the DVD specification (which was not developed by Apple) calls for the audio to be sampled at 16-bit/48KHz (I think you might also be able to use 96KHz as well). This is what the software expects. If you choose to use another sample rate then the software may or may not be able to "fix" it in post. The real problem is that many camcorder manufactures set the audio to 12-bit by default.

  • Why won't Apple fix the wifi connectivity problem with the iMac and new OS instead of just havin us go through hours of useless mock fixes!

I have spent hours with apple care about this problem with wifi connectivity.  According to all the posts I'm not alone.  I love my new IMAC
but i'll be glad to go back to my PC just so I can get my email without all the headaches.  It seems that Apple has lost interest in
the IMAC and all of the problems associated with the new OS.

Keep in mind that ASC is where people go to get help, so yes, you are seeing reports of people who are having WiFi connection issues. But while it might seem like there are lots of people having trouble, given the sheer number of iMacs in use, it is a very small number. Also keep in mind that WiFi isn't totally under Apple's control. There are dozens of WiFi routers. Even worse, the manufacturers of WiFi routers often release firmware upgrades to fix flaws without ever informing the consumer. And just to add to the confusion, while WiFi 801.2 n routers have been sold for several years, for most of that time there was no agreed upon standard!
So if you'd like help, first, what router do you have and have you checked the vendor site to see that it has the latest firmware?

  • Did Apple Fix the 18 Month Death With New Time Capsule Release

I purchased the new Imac (quad core) a few days ago and also the new version of the Time Capsule. Now reading the reviews and forums I am worried that in the spring of 2011 I will be very unhappy.
Does anyone know if the new version of the Time Capsule fixes problems associated with the previous models.
    Thanks.

For Internet backup strategies, you have a number of services to consider.
For photos only, you may want to consider: Flickr, Fotki, Kodak Gallery or Shutterfly to name just a few.
For all files: BackJack, BackupRight Pro, Rhinoback, Backblaze, or CrashPlan ... again, just to name a few.
Note: I am not currently affiliated with any of these vendors and just offer them as options (not necessarily recommendations) for you to consider.

  • IPad with a second iTunes library sync: all apps don't work any more...how can I fix the problem?

I was used to sync my iPad (iOs 4.3.5) with my main personal computer (with windows 7 64 bit on it) but after the pc went off I synchronized the iPad to my laptop (windows vista 32 bit) just for searching iOs update...the result was that any apps work anymore!!!!! How can I fix the problem?
    Thank you in advance,
    Paolo

If it's happening on all the apps that you've downloaded from the App Store, but not the Apple built-in ones, then try downloading any free app from the store (as that appears to reset something) and then re-try them - the free app can then be deleted.
If it's happening on all apps then try closing them all completely and then see if they work when you re-open them : from the home screen (i.e.not with any app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of each app to close them, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work then you could try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • I have a Ipod Touch the 4th generation and i have a two year warranty plan, my Ipod screen is cracked and the middle button doesn't work to good , can apple fix it ?

Can apple fix my Ipod ?

probably not because it is cracked, mine started separating at the top for no reason, not one crack or scratch anywhere just separting and opening up, I mailed it in to apple and they sent it back saying because we opened it up that voided the warranty.  I sent it in because it opened up, duh, fought with them for a week on the phone, they sent me a coupon for a discount of a new ipod woo hoo, I will not by another apple product ever.

    Hey BlueEyedDude,
Thanks for the question. I’m sorry to hear about your iPod nano! If you believe you have isolated the issue completely to hardware, you can learn more about servicing your device at the following link:
Apple - Support - Service Answer Center
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/faq/
If you’d like to attempt some more troubleshooting tips, see this link:
iPod nano - 4th and 5th generation - Apple Support
    https://www.apple.com/support/ipodnano/4th_5th_generation/
If you do decide to service your device, you’ll want to make sure all of the music and information is backed up. If you regularly sync your device with a computer, this music should be on the computer. If not, you can learn about what purchases you can transfer from the iPod to a computer:
iTunes Store: Transfer purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer

  • Apple store installed optical drive replacement. It plays CD and DVD but will not let me change a DVD to .mp4 without stalling and or going very very slow.  Can I fix the HL-DT-STDVDRW  GA11NR?

Apple store installed optical drive replacement. It plays CD and DVD but will not let me change a DVD to .mp4 without stalling and or going very very slow.  Can I fix the HL-DT-STDVDRW  GA11NR?  The Apple store is a two hundred mile one way trip.

I didn't imply anything; I simply explained the terms of the ToU here because you had not specified what you were trying to do. Most such related questions are about copying protected content and I would not appreciate having my post removed with the obligatory email from Apple because I violated the ToU. In any case, you can find dozens of threads googling (or here) about the newer burners being slow copying content if it is protected. FWIW, if the DVD was produced by a commercial outfit, they may have used some sort of protection or an unusual file format - that problem has been discussed here previously.
As for your slow burner - since we don't even know what type of Mac/model/year/OS  you have, it is impossible to guess. If it's an iMac, those vertically installed burners are known to be less than perfect; the horizontally installed versions are better, but still not as good as an external. I've used an external burner for years.
As for the conversion time: the burner should have nothing to do with that; it is your software and your Mac's processor and amount of RAM that matter for conversions and rendering. I have no idea what you are using to burn the DVD. And, as a last consideration: you should always burn your content at a slow speed so you can avoid burn errors and have better results.
    Good luck.

  • Can apple fix my ipad2 twice  for free this is the second time my ipad2 screen broke, now dont calle me careless  brother begs and cries and it's frustrating, all he wants is thomas and friends so i end up getting forced to give it to him, i didnt know.

can apple fix my ipad2 twice  for free this is the second time my ipad2 screen broke, now dont calle me careless my 3 yr old  brother begs and cries and it's frustrating, all he wants is thomas and friends so i end up getting forced to give it to him,  i  didnt know my brother was still playing with the ipad , and i was watching tv, so my dad comes up it was lying in the floor next to my bro, u couldnt believe how i cried that time because second time...... my mom was very very dissapointed , and so am i , so will apple be able to fix my 1pad 2 wifi only16 gb for free again, i barely have enough money to repair, because my mom brought another one. im really sad  bc it took alot of sacrifice from my parents to buy me this ipad, i dont think i deserved that : ( plz help , or give me any other options.

If you mean your iPad got stepped on and the screen physically broke, I think it extremely unlikely that Apple will replace it again for free. They weren't obligated to do so the first time, as apparently they did, and almost certainly not going to do so twice.
Sorry, but I think you'll just have to live without your iPad until such time as you can save up enough money to pay for repairs. There are independent iPad repair services that may be able to replace the screen for less than Apple's replacement charge, though I can't say with certainty. Do a web search for "ipad repair".
    Regards.

  • HT1338 I updated my MacBook Pro with Mountain Lion and now it is starting slow and opening with some of the programs. How can I fix the problem?

I updated my MacBook Pro with Mountain Lion and now it is slow in starting up and loads a number of probrams. How can I fix the problem?

Have you tried starting in Safe Mode and see if the slowness still occurs?
    Restart holding the "shift" key.
(Expect it to take longer to start this way because it runs a directory check first.)
If this works look in System Preferences > Users & Groups > Login items and delete any third party login items (-), you can always add them back with the (+). Also look in /Library/Startup Items. Nothing is put in that folder by default, so anything in there is yours.
    Reboot normally and test.
