Can apple locate a lost or stolen iphone4 ? My son thinks he left it at a local store yesterday and of course when he went back no one knew anything about it. He did not have the "find my iphone" app installed and also did not use icloud. So we're wondering if their any options open at this point or do we just move forward with an insurance claim and be done with it.

The only way to locate/disable/erase any lost/stolen iPhone is through Find My Phone or a similar app. However, this requires that Find My Phone be setup/activated, on your phone, before it was lost/stolen. You would then login at iCloud.com & try to locate it. This requires the phone be turned on & have an Internet connection. There is no other way to locate a lost/stolen iPhone. Apple can't/won't help you, nor will your carrier. Report the loss to the Police, your carrier & Insurance company. Change all of your passwords.

Did you register with iCloud Find My...? If so, log in to iCloud to track the iPhone. If it was not registered there is not much you can do.

I lost my Ipod touch about a year ago but I know it has to be in one of three places. I recently heard that Apple was about to locate their products and I would just like to know if that is true and how much it is.

there is a locator app for under IOS 5 but it has to be turned on and connected to wifi

that is only possible if the intrudder has it to IOS 5 and has the locator Find Me turned on but I seriosly likely he'll prbobably have it off but you will never know till you try it
just maybe, just maybe, the intruder that stoled it from you has updated to IOS 5 and turn Find Me on, and was connected to wifi, just maybe you can locate it where it is and print screne it where it was located and paste it to windows Paint and print it out and show it to the Apple people and the cops, they could probably help you there. (btw you wanna show the name of the road and the area where its somehwhat exact location so this person can be charged. or watevr)

Note: The Find My iPhone **app** does not turn on the service, you can only do that through Settings>icloud.
