Can Apple Mail store all attachments in one folder
I have been trying Apple Mail out, and one behavior that I find horribly inefficient is Mail's storing attachments with messages. In the past I have used applications such as Eudora that had an attachments folder where all attachments were placed. As long as you left them there or moved them somewhere on the same hard drive, you could click on the attachment in a message and open it. However, the way I store files is that I usually file the attachments in other folders with other related files. That way all of my files about a project or topic are all together. Mail's way would have some files in project folders and other files in Mail's storage folder. So is there a way to have Mail put all of the attachments that come in into a single attachement folder (or even an attachment folder per email account)? Thanks.
bruce, thanks for your help. I don't have an advanced button under the storage tab. the message storage is below the advanced button, and when I click the advanced button, it doesn't give me any options for message storage. do you think I am missing an ad on that I should have ? thanks and happy thansgiving

Apple Mail inbox "all" selected can't unselect. Tried quiting; tried restarting. Mail freezes then unfreezes. When going to View and clicking on Select, nothing opens, freezes. After 30 seconds, it opens up, everything in the inbox remains selected. Won't be able to open anything in the inbox without everything opening up. Help!
Hi Edwin,
Try force quitting the Mail app:
Option+Command+Esc, then select Mail from the list. See if that helps.
Cheers,

How do I add a desktop link to additional email accounts? I have one email account as my safari home page because it has trouble with apple mail, but I want a one-click link on my desktop that takes me to two other email accounts.
Can you set up a rule in your old account to forward mail to your new account and then delete it from the old account?

Someone who receives my mail sent from Apple Mail cannot receive attachments or read my email even though they are on a Mac using Safari. How could they be using Safari to receive or read my mail?
You can lead a horse to water, but you cannot make it drink. This person receiving my email, while on a Mac with Safari is reading their mail through Safari using Horde--our recent discovery. Why they chose to do that in unclear. The last email we sent, however, was miraculously read and received and the attachment was viewed with no problem after we told them our mail was coming from a Mac thriugh Apple Mail. It seems that telling them that our emails were coming from a Mac and using Apple Mail was enough to make them think that perhaps THEY were doing something not quite right. Thank you both, Level 7 and Level 5.
But thank you especially for the meteorologists in the UK for putting forth the correct routes for Sandy these last days, you probably saved a lot of lives. -
okay so i recorded a song but each part comes out as like take 1, i have 10 takes. how can i put them all together as one take, to make one song all in one take not small pieces of a song. like i hit record and sang the entire song but when i hit play it was in pieces not just one song like it was in ten takes. is there any way i can blend it all into one take, to make one clear song?
You're not very clear in stating your problem. Maybe it's terminology: "takes" in recording lingo (and in GB lingo) are different version of exactly the same part in a song, so you only want one of them in the end. Please tell us exactly what you did and what it is that you don't like.

How can I download stories off my palm one ereader to my tablet
When you plug in the iPod, click on its icon in iTunes and on the info page, you should see an option to reduce music files to 128kbps. Make sure that it is ticked.

This isn't achely a question it's about iPod not iPhone but can Apple. Make all apps work with iOS 7 even when it's really old
And it's totally impractical for any OS to provide complete backwards compatibility in perpetuity. So no, Apple cannot grant your request. As WJ said, it's the developers' reponsibility to provide updates to their applications to be compatible with newer operating system releases, whatever the platform might be.

When I plug my iphone 5s into my windows computer and open it in windows explorer, all the photos are separated into folders like "965YOKDJ" and "823WGTMA". The photos don't seem to be separated in a logical way. I would rather them to all be in one folder or, if they are separated, at least have them separated in a logical way like date or something. I doubt, with it being an Apple product, there would be a setting I can change on the iPhone to change the way it labels photos and folders but if anyone knows a way to make this easier and more logical can you tell me? Also if any Apple employees happen to read this could you perhaps improve the way the iphone labels its photos?
Thats the way the files have been configured since the original iPhone so I don't think they are going to change it anytime soon (since it's been 7 years) but you can certainly put in some feedback on apple.com/feedback
I feel you pain somewhat on this one (at least back when I owned a PC). The folders are not logical nor the naming scheme. There is no setting you can change to change this as this is created by the operating system. I would have to assume it is some sort of code. I have noticed that when I do not take a picture for a long while, a new folder is formed, but again, I'm not sure of the criteria on how the iOS knows when to make a new folder inside the DCIM, but I have also seen with with some digital cameras that are not phones -
How do I keep an archive of all email in Apple Mail on my computer for one year?
I operate a small business, and need to keep an archive of all email on my computer for at least one year (not on the cloud, as I live on a small island and our internet service is sporadic). I prefer to manually delete all email after 12 or 13 months. It seems like Apple Mail no longer allows this?
What type of account(s)? (POP, IMAP, Exchange)
You can move messages from the sever ( IMAP or Exchange) to a folder under "On My Mac" to save directly to your computer.
When you drag a message it copies. Use the Move icon to move off the server to "On My Mac" folder.
You can select to delete any email at any time by selecting messages then click on Delete. -
I have a very big list of correspondents to whom I often send articles.
I cannot copy them from Firefox and paste them onto Apple Mail because they look WEIRD and not at all like the original. Most formatting disappears.
I do not encounter the same problem with Safari, and THAT is one of the two reasons I am forced to use it even if it gives me lots of problems.
The other one is that Safari 5 has a built-in RSS reader, which is essential for my work.
If you could manage to have those two things working, I'd pick Firefox in a second and advertise the fact to thousands who would do the same.Try one of these feed readers if the build-in Firefox reader doesn't suit you.

Apple Mail, Photo Browser, Attachments and Yosemite
OK,
Help.
Anytime I want to insert a photo from my iPhoto Library into Apple Mail via Photo Browser in Yosemite Mail, it crashes.
My preferred method - Via add attachments - Finder/Pictures/Iphoto library doesn't work anymore. It now says Open iPhoto library.
Why does Apple change these things without like checking them out?
Anyone have an advice. I think Yosemite is pretty half baked. I'm a computer consultant and this is the worst release for customers since Leopard.

As a test launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library. Import some photos and test to see if the same problem persists. Does it?
Note: Since it's Mail that's crashing it's not an iPhoto problem but a Mail/System one.
Log into another user account on your Mac and test to see if the problem persists there. If it does then it's a system wide issue. If not it's an account issue.

How do I restore just Apple Mail (and all its folders & settings) with TM?
Hi folks,
I was trying to set up an e-mail client on a PC, clicked and unclicked my gmail pop & imap on and off, and when I got home to my Apple MacBook, I had inadvertently reloaded (twice!) every e-mail that I've ever gotten in g-mail to Apple Mail which I use happily at home! No matter what I do, Apple Mail just won't delete the 29,000+ emails. And Mail is hanging, I suspect it just can't handle the massive numbers of e-mails and all the attachments, images, etc.
So I figure I must start from where I was at last Time Machine backup. I want to restore everything about Apple Mail as of my last backup -- all the same folders, saved mail, preferences, etc. How do I restore just Apple Mail but nothing else? Thanks!
-- JoshI've never done that, and don't think I've seen any similar posts here. You might want to look in the Mail and Address Book forum at: http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1223
Take a look on your system at +<your home folder>/Library/Mail.+ (List view is probably best for this).
You'll see a number of folders for accounts and mailboxes. There are separate folders for each account, and within them for various mailboxes, plus folders for "on my Mac" mailboxes.
With Mail off, of course, I think you should be able to restore either the entire Mail folder, or selected sub-folders within it, via Finder > Time Machine.
After you do that, you may need to use the +Mail > Mailboxes > Rebuild+ option in Mail.
(Do not use the specialized Mail > Time Machine +Recover your <named> Mailbox+ option there, as it will leave the current contents alone, and restore the messages to a new "restored" mailbox.)
Let us know if this helps or hurts. -
Can Apple Mail filter spam per account?
Sorry if this is to the wrong forum - I didn't see one for Apple Mail.
I have two mail accounts setup in Apple Mail: one for work (an MS Exchange server) and one for home (a gmail account via IMAP). When I originally setup Mail, junk filtering was on, but I vaguely recall the junk filtering interfering with the filtering Google's own junk mechanism (which, by the way, is amazingly effective!), so I turned off Mail's junk filtering. But lately, I've been getting more junk mail on my work account and would like to do junk filtering there. But it appears that "Junk" filtering can only be turned on globally - not on an account basis. Or is there a way?
Thanks for all info/suggestion.There's really no way for the Mail's Junk filter to interfere with Google's. Google's filter acts before Mail even sees the message. I would just turn it on. If Google's filter is good, Mail will rarely see any spam that Google didn't already deal with.
But if you really want to exclude an account, choose Perform custom actions in the Junk Mail pane of Mail preferences. Then in the Advanced dialog, set criteria to restrict the filter according to Account.
