Can Apple Remote Desktop Client 3.8 be used by hackers to hack into my account!

I received an update from Apple to  install the Remote Desktop Client 3.8 and am now wondering if hackers can use this software to control my laptop!

Don't worry!  First off, you already have Remote Desktop Client on your computer.  The update is just an update from 3.7 to 3.8.  It's a component of the operating system and does not give anyone remote access to your computer unless you have configured it to allow access.  Even then, the remote person or computer needs to be given access to an account on your device or know your credentials to initiate connections.  At the very least, you are making your computer MORE secure by keeping the remote client updated, not less, as the update may contain security related fixes to the client.

  • HT201332 where do i find my Apple Remote Desktop client

I have the Apple Remote Desktop client installed on my Mac but cant find the application anywhere.? Where do i find it to start using. Thanks

Like varjak paw said, the client is only part of the ARD solution. By enable the client on your computer, you can connect to it from another mac on your local network using Apple Remote Desktop.
If your looking for a free altertive you could try VNC. The limitation of ARD and VNC is that without configuring your firewall you won't be able to connect to your mac from over the internet.
If you want an easy way to connect to your mac from over the internet I would suggest checking our logmein.

  • Missing "sharing" option in system preferences after installing apple remote desktop client version 2.10

    Hi All,
I installed a wrong version of Apple remote desktop client , 2.10 and the sharing menu under system preferences vanished. I tried to uninstall the Apple remote desktop with,
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2577
but no luck, but after restarting the macbook pro with lion 10.7.2, i see my sharing option enabled but when clicked, it says the system preference has to restart and confirming that it restarts in 32 bit mode and even after clciking the sharing option it says, "you can't open sharing preferences because it doesn't work on an intel-based mac"
. So i strongly believe the apple remote desktop is creating the issue.
Can someone help how to fix this please?
    Thanks

Same problem here. I manage several remote Macs, but I have one MacBook which I can get no ARD access to (black icon). I can ping the IP, I can SSH into the MacBook, the ARD and Remote Login services are checked ON, the firewall is OFF. The ARD service is configured to allow my admin user full access - however, I get nothing. I have no trouble getting into the other Macs.
    Any ideas?

  • HT5170 About Apple Remote Desktop client 3.5.3, what is it, is the question

    Seeing this - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5170?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
Apple Remote Desktop client 3.5.3 is included in the OS X Lion v10.7.4 Update,
and as a standalone update for Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard clients. This update provides general OS compatibility fixes.
    That's a About explanation?
I have an update waiting - not applied of course.
No Idea what it is - or what it's for.
So go to link to find out - and it's Zero result.

It's the client for this application:
    http://www.apple.com/remotedesktop/
Apple bundles the client with all installations of OS X so administrators don't have to install it.

  • Can apple remote desktop be used to assist someone with cognitive disabilities to type on a computer in a different city?

Question:  Can Apple Remote Desktop be used to assist someone with cognitive disability to type on an Imac in another city?

You can read about the features of Apple Remote Desktop for yourself and decide whether it would be of help:
    http://www.apple.com/remotedesktop/
I can't see how it would help anyone type on a Mac, remote or not, disability or not, but perhaps you have assistance in mind that I'm not envisioning.

  • Apple Remote Desktop-client mac issue

         Dear all,
I have using Apple Remote Desktop 3.7.2 on maverick,in that some of the client machine also visible offline, but i can take remote.
    i don't no why.plz help me
    Regards,
    Venki

Yes I've tried to ping the IP address and I get a reply.
I've just discovered this morning that the issue appears to be with Apple remote desktop.
The issue came up again this morning...I ended up shutdown ARD completely then loaded it back up, and guess what! The MAC address was showing up properly. I've discovered this is working for SOME of my issues. For the ones that weren't displaying properly I deleted the computer account out of ARD and then manually added the computer though a scanner import via single network address. The scanner finds the computer and it displays the correct Ethernet ID.
So I’m guessing there is a bug with ARD and its mixing up/displaying the wrong Ethernet ID of some machines....

  • Apple Remote Desktop Client slow in mini

I'm using Apple Remote Desktop from my PowerBook. I can control an iMac G5 without any problems, but controlling my new intel Mini is very very slow... i can only work more or less if i put the screen without colors!
Is this normal? I can't understand why i can work remotely with the iMac very well, and so bad with the mini.
Mini Dual Core   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

pergaps it's from the wirless connection on the new mini.. I heard they are wired... I guess it's not a remote problem, but a network one, since you have them connected..

    Welcome,
The Client is built into all OSX base software so there is no download. It's the Admin (controller) software that is downloaded

  • Setting up Apple Remote Desktop to control a PC using VNC Enterprise

I am using Remote Desktop 3 and have all my computers talking on my home network, this includes a Compaq PC using VNC and also 2 Power Mac G4's. All is well on my HOME network.

I wish to control certain programs for the other user but have no idea how to do so.
Just looking for a step-by-step as I've searched the Internet thorougly without sucess.

  • Can Apple Remote Desktop force a client to netboot?

Is there a way that ARD can make the machines boot directly to netbooting, without having to visit each machine and holding down the "N"?

Yes, in the Manage menu there is an option to set the startup disk. If you are on the same lan, you can just highlight the correct netboot session. Or you can give it the netboot server address.

  • Can Apple Remote Desktop route audio to selected computers across network?

Can ARD be used to route audio output (e.g. from iTunes) across the network? If not, suggestions would be appreciated.
I remember that there was a -display option on Unix commands that let us run applications remotely and wondered if that might be a start to getting this task to work.
The intention is to feed audio-streamed data out to networked iMacs for use during classroom tests, controlled from a central admin computer in a different room. None of the classroom iMacs in question have iTunes on them, since it was removed to keep the machines more focused on classroom activities.

Sorry but no, ARD does not support audio across the network in any form.
Airfoil supports streaming of audio to other computers. I don't know if it will stream to multiple computers simultaneously, but you could check.
    Regards.

  • Can Apple Remote Desktop Slow Internet Speed?

After I used ARD to open a program on 36 stations in our computer lab these workstations have been really slow on the internet.  We are using Snow Leopard 10.6.3 and ARD 3.4.  We are using Ethernet connections, and have Airport turned off.

    TeenTitan,
Thanks for the post. I was loading a learning software called KeySills from Sunburst. It is a huge program that loads into workstation memory from our server. All Internet is sluggish since we tried to open this app on 36 network stations at once...but more noticeable on more demanding websites that load interactive graphics or video etc. We used to be able to load the program on all 36 workstations, but now if we load it on more than a couple, it is unbearably slow to load. Once loaded it's fine.  Other workstations load the program in 20 secs whereas the 36 take 50+ seconds to load it (and even longer as more load at once). I've repaired permissions and reset cache to no avail. I'm considering creating a snow leopard station from scratch, then if it loads in 20 secs, I'll reimage the 36 stations.
It's not the network cuz I plugged one of my 20 sec loaders into port where slow ones were and it still loads in 20 secs. Also, slow ones moved to spot where 20 second loaders were and still takes 59+ seconds.
It'd really be nice if I didn't have to reimage 36 stations ;)
Thanks for any suggestions you have.
    Tara
