Can Apple TV be used without wireless or Internet  connection?

I would like to take Apple TV camping. I wanted to mirror NetFlix or movies from my iPhone 4s to it. Is it possible without any wireless router or Internet connection?

Settings > General > Network > set up Personal Hotspot (via wi-fi)
It may or may not be available depending on your carrier - it works on my PAYG iPhone 4 but not on my iPhone 4S with an old contract SIM.
This would allow a wifi connection between phone and AppleTV (you see the setting on the phone to configure AppleTV).
I have not tesetd this myself but it may work if you can set up teh hotspot.
Good luck.

can apple tv be used to play purchased movies from a ipad without broadband via airplay

The only times I've tried - on holiday/vacation with no broadband - this has failed because Airplay of protected content requires a brief authorisation connection to Apple's servers.
Conversely an ipad hooked up to a TV using the HDMI adapter works without internet for media stored on it as does a Mac computer running iTunes eg MacMini with HDMI out.

I want to give Apple TV as a gift to someone who will soon move there.  Thanks.

Yes, it will work anywhere. You may however not have all the features that are elsewhere, depending on what is available in SA.

Can Apple TV be used to simply stream content, such as material streamed from web, to television?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
The Apple TV can't stream content from the Internet, unless it is through a pre-installed app that runs on the Apple TV, of which there are about a dozen.
You'd need to elaborate on your question, if you want further information.

  • Can Apple TV be used to connect OS X to TV as monitor?

I am looking for a way to use my TV as monitor (and maybe use the TV speakers as well) for my Macbook Pro but connect to the TV over the network. Can Apple TV be used for something like this?
    Any other idea?

  • Can I use my Macbook's internet connection on my iPhone?

    Hi
I am going away to India and we only have wired Internet in our office.
I want to be able to still use my iPhone to send and receive data
I don't want to pay roaming fees for this data
Can I (either wired or wireless) connect and use the Macbook's internet connection??
It is iPhone 4 (5.1) and latest Macbook Air
    Thanks
    Gareth

Yes by creating what is called an ad-hoc wireless network with your Mac acting as a wireless router providing internet access for a device such as your iPhone or with another computer via the ad-hoc wireless network created.

  • Recently moved and installed ATT DLS - I use their wireless router and connectted my airport express - Now I'm getting the Blue ? on some images

Recently moved and installed ATT DLS - I use their wireless router and connectted my airport express - Now I'm getting the Blue ? on some images - and at times - videos don't load.  I've increased / deleted Cache.  Suggestions? Misconfig?  Could it be possible my configuration from MacBook to router isn't correct?
    Thanks!

    JG,
    Thanks for the info.
Couple of questions. I found an apple support document on this topic that opened with this line:
"AirPort Express and all AirPort Extreme base stations can use WDS. Earlier AirPort base stations can't."
If the TC is an airport extreme base station, why can't this work to extend the network? I think I misunderstand. Here is the full article:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2044?viewlocale=en_US
If I buy a new airport extreme, set it to wireless-n only as my main router, am I correct that my existing time capsule could be used as a bridge if plugged in upstairs?
Final question (and that should do it), could I take this old airport express, plug it in upstairs using the ethernet connection, and just create a separate wireless network to use with a different name?
I'd like to keep one network if possible but just kicking around short term solutions.
    Thanks again.

  • Is there anyway i can put a stop to emails between a set period of time say 10pm - 6am without turning off internet connection

Is there anyway i can put a stop to emails between a set period of time say 10pm - 6am without turning off internet connection.

The only ways in iOS would be to stop using push mail or timed fetch mail and switch the account(s) to manual fetch.  That way, you only get mail when you open the mail app. to use it.
Or, you could selectively disable wifi and cellular data - voice calls and SMS texts would still come through then.
Other than that, I cannot think of a way to selectively disable email by itself.

I have a USB adapter for my iPad, can I plug in a AT&T USB Connect Momentum and use it for my internet connection??

Probably not normally, Apple has removed some of the hidden features of the USB dongle via a software update for iPad. One of those features was playing host to hard drives, keyboards, etc.

  • Can't Wirelessly Share Internet Connection Any More

I used to share my internet connection, without my router, through the Sharing panel of System Preferences. After messing around with some of the settings, laptops are no longer able to connect. These are the currently configured settings:
    Share Connection From: Built-In Ethernet
    To Computers Using: Ethernet, Airport
    Should something else be enabled?

  • Can time capsule be used for wireless backup without serving as a router?

can time capsule be set and used for wireless backup without serving as a router?

Not if you want it to work.
If you do want stand alone .. ie a TC sitting all on its lonesome with no internet connection.. then reset to factory and start over..
The TC has to be in router mode so it can handle dhcp and addressing.
    Ignore all the problems.
BUT then you can connect your computer to TC for backup
    OR
you can connect to main wireless router for internet..
You cannot do both.. at the same time.
UNLESS you have ethernet connection.. to either main modem or TC.. if you have two networks and two different network clients, then you can do both at once but the setup is tricky.

  • Can I use Time Machine wirelessly without having an internet connection?

I originally bought my time capsule and backed up my Mac when I had access to a Wireless Internet connection. I had no problems with it and it ran beautifully, just like Apple promised. I have now moved and no longer have access to an Internet connection except through a dongle. I want to use the TC as a wireless backup and printer access as I used to but am having problems connecting to it in the same way I used to when I had an Internet Connection. Does anyone know if it can be used in this way and if so do I have to change any of the settings that I have on my TC? I just assumed that I would be able to move the TC and plug it in and my Mac would connect as it always used to. Any ideas?

    snowball1 wrote:
If this is so, how do I get my Mac to connect to my TC?
You most likely will need a WiFi router to assign IP addresses to your equipment via DHCP. It's just that the router is not plugged into the internet. Basically you have a private LAN, wired or WiFi.
I presume you meant TimeCapsule, not TimeMachine.
FYI: There is a separate forum for TimeCapsule here:
