Can appleTV be controlled with RF Universal Remote?

I know that universal remotes that use IR technology can be configured to work with appleTV. But does anyone know if it is possible to control appleTV with a universal remote that works via RF?

Actually...the reason I asked the original question is that I am moving my audio visual equipment into a closet off my living room. Because it will be behind a door, only universal remotes powered by RF will control the system. The only hitch is that the AppleTV seems to work only with IR remotes. If that is indeed the case, I thought I might simply replace the AppleTV with a MacMini that can be controlled through the closet door with wireless mouse/keyboard. Does anyone have any thoughts on that solution?

  • Can I make pictures with iPhone5S by remote control, say bluetooth? Or by the remote controller for App TV?

Can I make pictures with iPhone5S by remote control, say Bluetooth ?  Or simply by the remote controller of App TV ?
    Thanks for the advise :-)

    There's this app:

I know nothing about it myself, so I can't vouch for how well it works. There may be other, similar apps available.

  • Can't Obseve/Control - with a twist

Camping onto the "Can't Obseve/Control" thread started in February with an added twist... OS X Server 10.4.8
I admin 2 PMG5s, 2 G4s, 2 iMacs from a PB15. I installed OS X Server 10.4 from the factory DVD. Since then, all the OSX machines remain responsive. The G5 running OS X Server, however, will not allow me to observe/control the screen (I can see via the ARD panel the machine status, even application changes in real time). The only VNC aboard the Server is "AppleVNCBundle" in the library (remove/do not remove?)
I have deleted/recreated the ARD Administrator user on server and performed every other troubleshooting idea I can think of... still no resolution.
Is anyone else using ARD with 10.4.8 Server successfully? If so, what is the key I am missing here? Thanks in advance!

    Might try this...

  • Can AppleTV be used with and like Airtunes and Airport Express?

So great! I can now play my music through my Home Cinema System on my TV but what about Airtunes? I have an Airport Express in my Studio and my Bedroom. Is there any way the Apple TV will act in the same way? Or can I select the other Airport Express Stations from AppleTV? If not are Apple planning on making this happen. I know it's early days for the AppleTV but they must have thought of this before hand? They did delay it's launch.
Thanks in advance for comments and Help!
    Pete

Currently there is no function to do that. I agree with you that this needs to be an added feature. Maybe the reasoning was that since the control for AirTunes is from the computer out to the remote speakers you would not need it with AppleTV since you control the content from there. Apple should have made the AppleTV not only a remote speaker but a remote controller. Maybe in the first update (PLEASE!).

  • Can Exchange work correctly with routing and remote access?

    Tx  for answer !
Yes.  I have suppose that if remote and routing access and Exchange are built-in win sbs11 mean that work together, did i'm wrong?
my only problem is i can't figure how to let exchange send email correctly, all other thing work well.
I seen that when exchange send email, multiple source port are in use, like ftp does.  Is there a way to change that?

  • Can AppleTV play slideshow with photos AND video?

Most of my iPhoto albums contain some .MOV clips that will not play when I sync the album to Apple TV. Is that a problem of the video file format or Apple TV does not have this feature?
    Thank you!

If your slideshows contain video, they won't play on the tv.
Typically if your albums contains both video and stills, they should be saved as a movie not a slideshow

  • How can I show menu on tv with apple tv remote

I have my ATV onnected with a HDMI cable from my Apple TV to a HDMI input on my A/V Receiver.
Then I use HDMI out on the A/V Receiver to connect to my HDTV with another HDMI cable.
This has always worked just fine for me and still does,  just lately though I needed to check out the menu on my ATV which will be the first time since I set up my system.
I have my system set up on a Universal Logitech Remote which is also working just fine for me.
My problem is that I can't figure out how I can get the ATV menu to show up on my tv so that I can edit it.
I've tried turning on the tv manually but when I do I get live tv playing and clicking on the ATV remote menu does not over-ride the live tv picture.
Also tried turning on my Tivo with my universal remote but that also opens up the tv with a picture which the ATV remote can not over -ride
Am I missing something obvious here or is my setup preventing me from seeing the menu.
    Thanks

The correct answer is only with a limited number of apps, you cannot share the iPad screen, unfortunately. YouTube, iPhoto. I am very disappointed keynote presentations are not supported.

  • Can't control with remote, but can with Remote app!

Turned on my Apple TV today after work. As often happens, Netflix was "unavailable".
I usually fix this by unplugging my Apple TV, letting it sit, and plugging back in.
This time, after rebooting, the IR remote would not control the menu system. The white light on the Apple TV flashes as I press the buttons.
I tried 3 different remotes; same thing.
Did the reset procedure detailed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3180
Unplugged it for 30, still not responding to the remotes! UGH!
Funny thing: I CAN control it using the Remote app on my iPhone.
    Any ideas??

    See:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1555
If the unpair trick doesn;t work I'd suggest hooking up the AppleTV 2 to a computer running itunes using a microUSB cable alone and reverting it to factory state with current software.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Your Apple TV may have become paired with another remote. Hold the remote close to and pointed at the Apple TV, hold down the menu and Rewind buttons together for 6 seconds or until you see a broken chain icon on screen.

  • Ipod Nano Compatibility with Ipod Universal Dock and Remote

I have an 8GB Black 2nd Gen iPod Nano. I want to connect it to my stereo. I was told that the Apple Ipod Universal Dock would be a good solution.
    http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?mco=6C0 4E07A&nplm=MA045G/C
The website says that it is compatible with my nano, so no big deal right? I just wanted to make sure it would work fine with my iPod nano before I went and bought one. Does it come with the AV cable to connect the dock to my stereo / tv? DOes the dock have a graphical menu interface like some of the third party docks/remotes have?
Also, will the Apple Ipod Remote work with the universal dock?
    http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?mco=BB5 E48CD&nplm=MA128G/A
The apple store website says that everything will be compatible, but I wanted confirmation from someone who has actually owned this or knows about this.
Can you offer any better docks/remotes ideas?

I was looking at the review CNET had for that Kensington dock.
    http://reviews.cnet.com/mp3-player-accessories/kensington-entertainment-dock-500 /4505-6519_7-31631868.html?tag=uolst
I had a question about part of the review though, I am not sure I am understanding it correctly.
"We were impressed by the remote's ability to take control of our iPod; most of the third-party iPod-dock remotes we've seen only pause the music or video, skip tracks, and adjust the volume, not browse the menus. That said, the Entertainment Dock still isn't perfect. When you navigate the menus, your TV screen will be blank, so you must rely on the iPod's screen for your visual cues. Our other gripe is that the remote seems cheaply designed: The buttons on our review model looked misaligned (if usable), while the battery cover was annoyingly difficult to pry open. We got about 30 feet of range from the remote, which is more than adequate for most living rooms."
So this means that even though the remote can navigate the menus on the iPod, you wont be able to see what you are doing unless you go to the screen of your iPod?

  • Ipod Classic 80gb won´t work with apple universal dock and remote

I own 2 ipods a 5th generation 60gb and an ipod classic 60gb. I've just bought an apple universal dock with remote and the original apple component and composite AV cables. I connected the universal dock to my TV via the composite cable, with my ipod 5th gen I can watch videos on the TV and control the ipod with the apple remote but when I connect my ipod classic to the universal dock it will charge but I can´t get any video out or control the ipod with the remote. It's as if the ipod classic doesn't recognize the universal dock and it keeps showing the connect the video accessory screen, even when i tried using the apple component AV cable. I dont think the problem is with the universal dock because it works fine with my Ipod video 60gb, but with my Ipod Classic 80gb the remote control and video out won't work at all, i can´t even control the playback of audio playlists. Does anyone know why that is happenning? Please help me!

I have the Classic 80gb also...same probem. I retuned the Apple Universal Dock and purchased one that was half the price. Pluged it in and it works perfectly! So my advice would be to save some money and get products that work.

  • Mini with new universal dock and IR remote

I just got a new universal dock and IR remote for use with a Mini. It seems like the only controls on the remote that work are Next, Prev, and Play/Pause. Neither of the Volume buttons or the Menu button do anything. Is this normal? Is there any advanced information available for the new IR remote and dock (the manuals aren't very helpful)?

The description would make you think otherwise...
"Control your iPod from afar. Play, pause, control volume and skip forward and back between songs from across the room with the Apple Remote."
It goes on to say that the Menu button is for use with the Mac.
"When you click the Apple Remote's Menu button, your desktop fades and Front Row's sleek interface takes its place to give you control over your music in iTunes, your photos in iPhoto, the videos in your Movies folder and whatever DVDs you want to play."

It is very odd... when you adjust the iTunes volume slider bar volume output to the Stereo is adjusted ... Why can't this be done with the Apple Remote? Silly. (My Stereo is an old school NAD amp... no remote).
