Can ARD 3 now share a screen across 2 different subnets

We have one central office. Clients access that office via a VPN. We can then share our screen with them as we work on a proof of a project.
It's a great solution, however, we can't with ARD 2.2 get it to work with two clients at once over the VPN.
An old Kbase article said that it wasn't possible to route screen sharing to two different subnets in the 2.2 version. But rather required all clients be on the same subnet.
Does anyone know or have the ability to test to see if this is different is 3.0. I'm hopeful that it is, as I can no longer find the old Kbase article saying that it wasn't possible.

Still no reply as to if this was resolved. I'm not so much worried about the move on the client side. As once we upgrade we have the luxury of upgrading everyone at once. I think that will be a smooth process.
However, our motivation to upgrade is dependant on wether or not the ability to route traffice over multiple subents is fixed or not. So we'll wait and see. If anyone can easily test this. I'd love to know. Sounds like a few other people are hoping to hear something as well.

Is it possible to cluster appliances across different subnets?

We are attempting to cluster two appliances across different subnets in order to provide greater survivability. Although we were able to cluster the appliances, the manageability of the appliances has become somewhat impaired. We've opened ports 443, 22 and 2222 between the two appliances. The appliances are C350s running AsyncOS 7.1.3-010. Are we missing something?

Are these appliances communicating using IP addresses? If yes, in order to a join cluster,using IP addresses there must be a reverse DNS (PTR) record configured in DNS server for the Cisco IronPort appliance.Please check that if the the reverse lookup works. If not, it might be another issue.

Why can't I "Share My Screen"?

Friday I was in a trouble-shooting session via Adobe's "chat" trying to get my Captivate app reactivated on a new PC (Windows 7). The Adobe tech support person wanted to see the window I was looking at, so the support person gave me to the link in the chat window to "share screen, " which opened Adobe Connect. After Adobe Connect opened, I clicked "Share My Screen," but it didn't work.
Why would it not work? Might it relate to my company's standard Internet security settings?

Hey Jan,
There's no need to purchase Adobe Connect - anyone can download the Adobe Connect add-in. The add-in is actually only required if you need to share your screen (we've never added that functionality to the Flash Player).
You can install the add-in manually, though there is also somethig we call the 'lightning install' process that happens when you try to share your screen without the add-in installed. The lightning install should only take a few seconds and it usually even works for customers in locked-down desktop environments. Once installed, the meeting room would re-open in the add-in.
In your case - it looks like the lightning install failed (or didn't begin). Perhaps IE blocked it, or perhaps there was a yellow bar at the top of your screen that you may not have noticed.
In any case, manually installing the add-in should resolve the issue.
I'd recommend using version 9 of the add-in since it's backwards compatible.

Can members in a pool be on different subnets using CSM

Hello. We have recently been investigating load balancing devices, and were almost set on F5. We then overhauled our core network, including replacing one 4507R with 2 6500's, outfitted with Sup720's and FWSM modules.
Now, we are seriously thinking about investing in the CSM or ACE module instead of the F5. I was wondering if the servers in my virtual pool can be on different subnets?
For example, the user is looking for a web server with an IP of 192.168.110.1. This virtual ip is setup on the CSM module, and contains three physical servers, 192.168.110.10, 192.168.110.20, and 10.10.10.1 (server in a different data center, only to be used if the two primary servers go down). Will this work, or do all members in the pool need to be on the same subnet?

Communication across different subnets using DatagramSocket class

Hi All
I've written a simple client-server program to send broadcast messages across the network and receive them back after some processing. The problem is that the messages sent by the program are not received across the subnets i.e. my program broadcasts messages only on the one subnet. I am using DatagramSocket class. Is there any way to communicate across the subnets using DatagramSocket class or will I've to use the some other class like MulticastSocket?

Your router/gateway is probably set up to drop udp. This is usually done by network administrators to prevent things like broadcast storms across large networks. If you have admin access to the router, you should be able to change it to allow routing of udp.

Why can't I share my music across user accounts on my home PC?

I'm having a frustrating time trying to get Itunes to share music files with my wife's user account on my computer. We both use Itunes, but we have our music stored individually in our 'My documents' folders, leading to duplicate songs on the hard drive.
I have tried various methods to allow my wife to use my music files. First I set my music to 'shared' and her's to 'look for shared music' with no success. Then I tried moving all the music to the shared documents folder. Now I can use her music but she can't use mine. My filenames are in green and her's are in black. I know that has something to do with encrypted files but surely in the shared folder she should be able to access them. I moved these files from My documents, which is not accessable to her. Is that why?

Sorry. I have realised that i need to decrypt the files for them to work.

Can you now share a single iPhoto file?

Does the new iPhoto release allow multiple users to share a single iPhoto database across multiple Macs that have iLife 11 installed. It's always been a peeve that my wife, son, and I each have to have our own iPhoto albums. I already backup the raw images to a TimeMachine drive, a NAS drive and to cloud storage giving me a triple redundancy including offsite. Just don't need three separate iPhoto files as well.

This has been possible since iPhoto 6 at least.
You can substitute the word machine for account in the following:
For iPhoto 09 (version 8.0.2) and later:
What you mean by 'share'.
If you want the other user to be able to see the pics, but not add to, change or alter your library, then enable Sharing in your iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and use Fast User Switching to open the other account. In that account, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. Your Library will appear in the other source pane.
Any user can drag a pic from the Shared Library to their own in the iPhoto Window.
Remember iPhoto must be running in both accounts for this to work.
If you want the other user to have the same access to the library as you: to be able to add, edit, organise, keyword etc.
Quit iPhoto in both accounts. Move the Library to the Users / Shared Folder
(You can also use an external HD set to ignore permissions, a Disk Image or even partition your Hard Disk.)
In each account in turn: Double click on the Library to open it. (You may be asked to repair the Library Permissions.) From that point on, this will be the default library location. Both accounts will have full access to the library, in fact, both accounts will 'own' it.
However, there is a catch with this system and it is a significant one. iPhoto is not a multi-user app., it does not have the code to negotiate two users simultaneously writing to the database, and trying will cause db corruption. So only one user at a time, and back up, back up back up.
Note: re wireless connections. A strong warning: If you're trying to edit the Library (that is, make albums, move photos around, keyword, make books or slideshows etc.) or edit individual photos in it via Wireless be very careful. Dropouts are a common fact of wireless networking, and should one occur while the app is writing to the database then your Library will be damaged. Simply, I would not do this with my Libraries.

Can I split a single core across different LDoms?

Back in LDom version 1.0.3, there was a warning from Sun saying:
"Running threads from the same core in separate domains can lead to unpredictable and poor performance."
This limits an eight-core T5220 to have only 8 LDoms.
Does anybody know if this is still true for LDom version 1.3? Can I break that limit such that my 8-core T5220 can run 64 LDoms smoothly and reliably?

I don't think the recommendation has changed but if the work load is light enough.it could work. I'm running 13 guest LDoms on a T5220. Most are 4 VCPUs and 4GB memory. This has been running without problems for about a year. (note: I did assign a whole core to the primary domain.)
I use Orca to monitor overall performance. I have recently bumped a couple of the production LDoms to 5GB but not seeing any problems with cpu.

I live in the US and my iTunes account is set-up in this region. Is it possible to gift something from iTunes to someone living in the UK who has a British iTunes account and British-bought iPhone?

At the moment it's only possible to gift items (including gift certificates) to people whose account is based in the same country as your own - if you try it then it may appear to then go through, but the recipient won't be able to redeem it.

For quite some time, I have been thinking of buying a couple of iSights to enable audio/visual between two distant computers. But I really don't want to have to leave a dozen ports in my DSL modems opened up in order to use AIM or Jabber servers to iChatAV to my "usual" called parties (I can't help it, I'm paranoid - I have one ssh port open on my DSL modem at home - so most everything I do from afar -- afp (port 548), vnc( port 5900), etc., I tunnel it all over ssh).
So, in a similar vein, what I would like to do is treat a distant computer as if it were on my local 192.168.x.x NAT subnet, in order to do a Bonjour-like iChatAV connection without having to go to through these public servers and without having to leave a dozen ports open in my firewall (or go through the drill of opening/closing ports every time I want to iChat).
Now, if I understand this correctly, on one's local subnet, iChat AV works using Bonjour to communicate with other iChat AV users on the same subnet, which, I think, uses multicast packets. So I'm wondering if it is possible to ssh tunnel multicast traffic to a different computer like so:
ssh -L 5297:localhost:5297 -L 5298:localhost:5298 {called.party.IP.address}
thus being able to set up a secure point-to-point iChatAV connection?
Anybody ever do something like this?

Sharing across different subnets

I have successfully connected a remote PC to my WRV54G using QuickVPN. That remote PC can ping computers across the VPN and those computers can likewise ping the remote PC. I have even successfully connected with Remote Desktop from that remote PC and controlled a computer across the VPN.
I can not, however, access shared resources on the computers across the VPN from the remote PC. (For the sake of discussion, assume that no firewalls exist in my scenario.) The remote PC has a local IP address of 192.168.1.4 and the computers behind the VPN have a local subnet of 10.109.220.0. I attempted to use the "run" command in windows and typed "//10.109.220.100/" from the remote PC to open the shared resources on the computer with that address. This did not work; I only received an error message. I didn't expect to be able to "see" computers across the VPN since the subnets are different, but I did expect to be able to access shared resources if I knew the IP addresses beforehand.
Can anyone help me?

Is the remote computer in the same Workgroup as the local computer? It might help if they are.

Mobility groups, failover across different subnets

I've been reading up on 5.1 and am wondering how and if actual failover across subnets is an option.
I understand the roaming of clients from controllers in the same MG on diff subnets.
How does it work if your primary "anchor" isn't alive to replicate the DB entry to the off-subnet controller? Say if my local WIsm's die and the backup is in the next state, how will the AP's maintain connectivity?

Yes, but tha ap's will take the new configuration from that WLC. Also... users will get tunneled back to that wlc and be dumped off in that subnet. So make sure you understand the ssid and what ip's clients will get when they associate to different wlc's. That should do it.

How DLNA Across different Subnet???

I have a NAS storage for media server on my VLAN subnet 10.10.30.0 and i have two more VLAN 10.10.10.0 and 10.10.20.0 i want to access my media server on these two VLANs as well. how i can allow broadcast for DLNA(Media Sever) on my router.

I got this working by using "ip multicast-routing" and adding "ip pim sparse-dense-mode" under the relevant VLAN interfaces.
I did have to activate the advipservices license on my 881W. Otherwise my device does not support "ip pim".

Since me and my mother moved from iChat to iMessage bêta, screen sharing works only one way. I can share my screen with her but not the reverse. When actually what I would like to do is share her screen. Video works fine both ways.

Screensharing works only one way since we moved from iChat to iMessage bêta. Before that we have never had any problem with screen sharing. We haven't changed anything else, just installed iMessage. What I need to do is share her screen, and the only thing I can do is share my screen...

On the whole I am finding it very stable. (it presents the same quirks in the same manner each time)
It has some things that are more Feature requests than "Bugs" per se about the way it works that I would like to change.
It can also be difficult to tell exactly what is going on whenyou are hearing about it third hand.

No longer share my screen Mavericks with Yosemite

I can no longer share my screen Mavericks with Yosemite - buddies gone.
I am so depressed. I no longer have any buddies - where has the list gone?
In addition, I can no longer share screens. Everything is greyed out.
I gave someone a new 27-inch iMac 3.4GHz quad-core Intel Core i5, and the idiot upgraded to Yosemite (with it's Fisher Price icons and iPad like interface) before I even had a chance to introduce her to the world of mac.
I have no idea whether this upgrade is the cause, or something has changed that is blocking the ability for screen sharing etc. that I am too stupid and old to understand.
It all used to be so simple. It was called iChat. You messaged, shared screens, and video conferenced.
It was what Mac used to be about - ease of use, and reliable.
Now, nothing really works for long enough to get used to it, before it changes.

What were you using before ?
Is it Enabled in the Messages > Preferences > Account pane ?
