Can Automator be used to make movie screencaptures?

Even though I've had a MacBook Pro for over a year, I've only recently discovered that I have Automator on it and what it can do. I noticed that there is a "New Video Capture" option and I was wondering if this option is the equivalent of making movie screen captures?
If it is, can someone forward me to a quick tutorial?
Thanks in advance

No.
A quick glance at the options for iPhoto in Automator shows no options for exporting.
That's not your only hope, of course, and an app like Keyboard Maestro should certainly be able to create such a workflow triggered by a keystorke or event - like completing an import.

KM is a complex and very powerful app. You'll need to read the help on it.

  • I have an IMac intel  OS x 10.8.2, I would like to know what is the best program to use to make movies and burn them to a DVD???

What is the best program to use that will be compatable with a IMac intel OS x 10.8.2, that will allow me to make movies, add music then burn it to a DVD.  The program I have now, will make the movie but will not burn it???

    You want iDVD.
Purchase iLife 11  (includes iDVD) on disk.
IDVD is a wonderful piece of software and well worth the low cost of $40.

Yes, there are programs that will put a movie on a DVD.   I have tried most of the other substitutes including Toast, Burn, DVD Creator, Wondershare, and others.  None of them come anywhere near the ease-of-use and power of iDVD.

  • Can indd be used to make tablet forms

Can indd be used to create fillable forms for use with tablets?
Currently I use indd to create forms/applications and then save them as a pdf.
Using Acrobat Pro X, I make the forms/apps able to be filled out.
The end-users for these documents need to be able to add descriptions, which can vary in size.
All I can do now is just supply extra pages, but this leaves a lot of blank space if they don’t fill it.
I have used LiveCycle, but am neither happy with the results, or proficient with how to use it.
I need forms that look like all the other forms the company is using.
Can anyone help me with this problem?

What I really need to know is can indd do the job. The end users at present are using the letter size forms, and because of other restrictions within our system, these forms will need to remain a letter size. Also, these forms are for internal use only, within our business, and will never be used on a mini tablet. When I was at the Print Expo, someone said indd could do it. I just want to know how. There has to be other ways to create forms for tablets besides LiveCycle. I took the LiveCycle training, and it is hardly supported by Adobe. What other options are out there?

  • Can Automator be used to generate iCal backups?

I would like to use Automator to run iCal's backup utility - namely File > Back up iCal....
Has anyone done this? It seems like this should be fairly straightforward but I'm not seeing how this can be done from within Automator. TIA!

Couldn't figure out how to do in Automator but I took a crack at writing an Applescript that works.
This saves the iCal backup in your home folder and overwrites the previous copy. You'll need to create the first one yourself and then the script will work.
    Here is the script:
    tell application "iCal" to activate
    delay 2
    tell application "System Events"
tell menu item "Back up iCal…" of menu "File" of menu bar 1 of application process "iCal" to click
    delay 3
    keystroke "iCal Backup"
    keystroke "H" using command down
    delay 3
    keystroke return
    delay 2
    keystroke tab
    keystroke space
    end tell

  • Can Automation be used to send User-defined CC's to Environment objects?

Hi, this is probably a really dumb question but I'll ask it anyway:
I've bought a controller-environment for a synth (Alphajuno2, PG300 programmer) for Logic, the faders in the environment layer use sysex to communicate with the synth.
Apparently it is possible to map an external midi-controller to these environment-faders, and that's all and fine, but what I'm after is a method of using automation to control the environment-faders. How would I go about doing it?
I've only ever really automated some volume changes or plugin parameter changes, I've not yet automated faders in the environment, so how would I go about doing it?
Would I create a fader which I'd link to the sysex-sending fader, and automate the fader, or maybe an environment-monitor (and add it to the arranger) and somehow configure a set of CC#'s to be automated with that arranger object, and then just cable them up to the various Sysex-sending faders (I do know enough to be able to set the input of those sysex-faders to match the CC#'s which the automation would be sending).
Is this kind of "User-defined CC#'s in Automation" possible? How should I go about it?
Message was edited by: esaruoho to further clarify it

Is it just because there is currently no way whatsoever of Automation CC, and I should have known to use Hyper Draw to talk to an Environment object directly, which would then be connected to the Faders of choice?

  • Can Widgets be used to make icons?

I've found a few widgets that I'd like to use as icons, but I can't figure out how to do it. For example the skull & cross bones used for "CROSSBONES''. I'd also like to use "WORLD CLOCK & CALENDAR"
on my desktop all the time, and be transparent if possible..
    Can these things be done?

Widgets are just directories containing the relevant files. They also have the .wdgt extension.
You cat use the Terminal to find the widget icon, which will have the name Icon.png
    hope it helps,

No that's not what QuickTime is for

  • How Can You Slow the Titles in Movie Trailer Down?

I love the new movie trailers in iMovie, but I need to slow the title slide down.  Does anyone know how to do this?

You can do it by converting the Movie Trailer to a Project. However once converted, you cannot go back to the Movie Trailer interface and continue to work using the Movie trailer tools. So what you might want to do is get everything, Everything you can get accomplished using just the Movie trailer tools. Then at the very end, the very last step Convert to Project and stretch out the duration of that title slide.
To Convert to Project go to the File Menu > Convert to Project. iMovie will then move everything into the iMovie Project Browser as clips, background sound tracks, titles, etc.

I want to convert a Powerpoint File (ppt) to a QT movie. Does anybody know how to script this with AppleScript?
    Thanks!

    Bernhard,
Here is a follow-up script that works in the previous version of PowerPoint (v.X). I am not sure how much the latest version of PowerPoint has changed with regards to the location of the "Make Movie..." command or the dialog windows that are related to that command but hopefully not at all. Try it out and see whether it does what you are wanting. I assumed that you would want the movie placed in your Movies folder and that the default settings in the dialogs were okay.

  • What can I use to make a decent quality QTVR movie under OS X?

I made a Quicktime VR movie some years ago of my computer room using Apple's Quicktime VR Studio v1.0 under Classic on my G5. I had to use my OLD QuickTake 200 (640x480) camera, since it was a preset in that app and I could not get focal length, etc. right corresponding to my "real" camera.
    http://www.bytecellar.com/qtvr.html
I'd like to take an updated set of pics and make a rather higher resolution QTVR of the room, but I don't know what app to use. All my Macs are Intel-based now. What is the modern app to use to make a QTVR? This inspired me:
    http://www.airbus.com/en/aircraftfamilies/cabinshowroom/360_degreesviews/ACJ.htm
What did they use for that?
Ideally I would use a tool that generates a perspective-correct QTVR-style movie that ran in Flash, but I can't find any such tools to do that for less than thousands of $$. Thanks.
    blakespot

    http://www.airbus.com/en/aircraftfamilies/cabinshowroom/360_degreesviews/media/ACJ.mov
Is the source file but QT Pro doesn't show what software created it.
It appears QTVR has been abandoned by Apple so I guess your search for software should start by inquires to those that still create content.
It used to be a very popular method of Web page "interactivity" and many camera manufacturers included software to create them.

  • How can you make movie clips partially visible?

Okay, so this sounds simple, but I'm tottally lost... I'm a thirteen year old boy that has been using Flash for a little over 3 years. I program video games. I recently embarked on a game where one of the modes is to be split screen, player one gets the top half, player 2 the bottom. The promblem with this is that my game is based off of a moving background, where inorder to keep the main character centered the background moves instead of them. Becsause of this, when setting up split screen, the screen on the upper layer takes over the bottom because there would be more showing then there would be in the game: Parts would be off screen. I was wondering if there was anyway that using hitTest(s) (or some other method) you could make a movie clip partially visible/ invisible. I know the code for making something invisible when touching something else. But I was wondering if there was a way to make only the part of the movie clip touching another movie (it would have its alpha turned off... let's say it's a hitBox) or only the part of the movie clip touching the hitBox visible, invisible. Another way of looking at this is that I want a movie clip to be a small box, but inside I want their to be a huge picture. I want to make it so that when you move the picture different parts are viewable in this little box. And to make this as clear as I can... : I want to make a circle that I'll call the magnifying glass. I want to make an invisible picture that can be moved using code (I know that part). I want it so that when part of the picture is under the magnifying glass it's visible, not the hole thing, jus that circular area. Another reason I'd like to have this promblem solved is for a moving water effect. I want to make a movie clip and tween showing a square of rushing water, but without putting anything over parts of it (other than a hitBox) I want to make only a squiggly line of that water box visible. Thank you so much! =D I really hope you guys know! =D P.S. I also am currently using the trial of CS4, if that helps anything. But if it's only possible in AS3, then it's impossible to me because I use AS2 conservatively.

Thanks... but I think you've misunderstood my question. I suppose magnifying glass wouldn't be the right word... I just wanted to explain that I want only the part of one mc touching another mc to be visible. I hope this isn't confusing. I have no need to enlarge an image. I want to make a movie clip only partially visible. Check out the fla.

  • Can't make movies with iphone camera?

OK, I might be dumb, but I just got an iphone yesterday and seems pretty cool, but doesn't seem to have the ability to make movies with the built in camera. Am I just stupid or what? Every other crap phone I have had for the last 5 years could make movies so I just assumed an iphone would make them too and even better ones with the 2 megapixel camera. Am I missing something or is this some kind of astonishing lack of feature? I don't seem to see anyone else complaining. Maybe I am just out in my own left field or something. Wouldn't one just assume an iphone could make a movie like all the other cell phones? Maybe I am just dumb and missing something? I hope so. It has got to just be a software thing. If Apple can't manage it for some reason, maybe a 3 party developer will figure it out for them. Any help?

Well, your comments sort of prove your point as well as one of mine. I guess I am one of few people who would really like to have the video feature even if it is compromised in quality. But, honestly so is the rest what the iphone does. It is by far not the best computer or internet connection (a desk top or laptop is), nor the best phone (a land line is), nor the best music player nor the best camera either. It is not the best at any of that, just obviously a really good almost-all-in-one product compared to other relatively similar camera phones products. So, yes, I guess I am dumb as I suspected and should have known better and not assumed anything - my fault entirely. But, since I hadn't heard any serious negative feedback about the lack of a video function or any other real negative feedback actually, I just assumed it had it. But, the reality is I guess most other people just don't care too much about it. Lesson learned. I don't care about the money and I am not interested in trying to get my money back or resell it. It is still a good product for what it is. I am just disappointed in the lack of what I would think was a pretty basic and common feature on other camera phones. How much extra could it have cost and what could it have hurt to have it? I am not sure what a good reason for not having it is, but maybe there is one, who knows. Anyway, I did fill in a feedback on the apple site, but I guess that is about all I can do for now.
Thanks for the help. At least I now know that it doesn't have the video taking feature and it's not that I am just not understanding how to use it, which was the basis of my post. Thanks for the help.

  • How can I tell what took someone used to make a flash...

When I'm out surfing around I come across Flash that I'd love
to make a one of. For example I like to do photography and I see a
Flash window that has thumbs across the bottom and a larger picture
on top, and then if you click on one of them you get a much larger
pictures, I looked at the source for the page, but I can't see any
clue as to what tool make that Flash...
If I like what someone has created in Flash, how can I figure
    out how they made it?
    Thanks

I don't have problems with many things, but being called a
    THIEF is one of them.
I did not say that I am helping the community move forward by
    decompiling others work.
I did say that the community CAN move forward FASTER when
people stop getting hung up on the idea that their code is
    something SACRED.
If you develop something new that has never been done before,
then you have something that you can protect.
If you want to see how other people did it, so that you can
better understand the different methods that can be used to do that
one thing, you are not stealing.
I know many people that take the same stance that I do.
People that look at code to understand it. Most of the things I can
do today because I looked at other peoples code. I didn't copy it,
I took hints from methods and used them to create my own methods.
Sometimes I decompile something, knowing how I would do it,
to see how that person did it. If they have any hints at better
methods that I could use to make my code faster, better. To say
that the majority of people steal is to take the standard American
view on the world. Americans tend to believe that everyone else is
a thief, a crook, whose only intent is to do wrong. (I am BTW, an
American, and I am very proud to be an American) If you step back,
and open your views, and your code, you will find a much different
picture painted. The majority of people aren't looking for
something to steal, but they are forced to take methods that people
would consider "stealing" to learn to do the things that they want
    to do.
There are many good reasons to look at code, with or without
the permission of the person who wrote it.
In the end, these are my views, and I am not alone in them.
Those are your views, and you are not alone in them. If you lose
respect for me, then you do. I am here to help who I can help with
the knowledge and experience that I have gained over my time as a
web developer. I only entered these forums recently, and therefore
don't have anywhere near as many posts as you do, but that doesn't
make my position any less accurate. The advice I have given people
is correct and true, and I offer up the things that others don't.
Even if you do not believe in using decompilers, decompilers exist,
and have their uses, therefore should be mentioned. In the end, I
lose respect for you, who I have held in VERY high regards since I
entered this forum, because you are closed minded, and unwilling to
offer the full information to people who are asking.
When I create code, I consider it open-source code. I am not
about to try to fool myself into thinking that people can't see the
code if I don't want them to. But why would I not want them to.
Because I spent hours writing it myself. At least, if others see
it, they won't have to spend as much time to get the same effect. I
know that some of these people will take it verbatim to use in
their projects, and not give me credit. But I don't expect credit.
It is a few lines of code, why should I get credit for writing it,
when I am not the first, nor the last, to write the same code.
Please do not respond to this. We both have better things to
do than sit and debate about the merits of open source code, and
    learning by looking.
