Can Back To My Mac access someone else's machine?

can I ONLY access computers I own and have registered with my own .mac sync using Back To My Mac?
let's say my father is at my house, and his computer is on at home, and he wants to be able to access his computer from my home computer for a moment, can he do that using Back To My Mac feature?
if so, how?

No, Back To My Mac only works with machines you have registered to your .Mac account.

  • How can I transfer a call to someone else?

    Hi all,
how can I transfer a call (that I've answered and noticed that it's someome elses business) to someone else with Lumia 920 / 820 or 610? Is this basic function even possible?
(It was with all the older phones).
    Please help

All the older Nokia phones you answer a call – you can put it on hold – call someone else, tell him/her that you are transferring a call – press  4 and hang up. Those two can continue the conversation together.
    That’s what I’m looking for.
With Lumia I don’t want to be the 3rd wheel in the conversation...
I haven't found the way to end the call so that the others could continue (not even with conference call)

  • Can I backup two macs onto one external time machine?

Can I backup two macs onto one external time machine drive? I am trying to do this over Wi-Fi.

Yes, the external drive has to be formatted correctly to HFS+ and shared to the network.
It doesn't matter how the second machine logs into the network but wireless back will be extremely slow as it will involve double hop wireless, I presume to a wifi router somewhere. For incremental backups this is no biggie but do the initial backup with the drive plugged into that particular computer or over ethernet.. gigabit for preference.
Pondini has some instructions as he has for most things.
    http://pondini.org/TM/4.html
Also look at Q33 where he lists using a shared drive on another Mac.
If you are planning using something other than wifi router give clear information about the network layout you have and hope to use.

  • Can I install Tiger on my Mac from someone else's unused install discs?

I bought a guy's unused Tiger install discs from eBay, since Apple no longer sells Tiger and my computer cannot handle Leopard (it's a PowerBook G4, 667 MHz/512 MB RAM). The discs are for a MacBook and for some reason it is not installing onto my computer. What should I do to make the installation work? Am I totally screwed here? The guy said he never used it because he skipped straight to Leopard on his MacBook, and promised it would be fine to install on my computer since he never registered Tiger on his computer. Please help!! Thanks.

Methinks you have been had. The Install/Restore disks that come with Mac computers are model-specific, meaning that you can only use them on that specific type of Mac. Registration is not an issue here.
I suggest you return them to the seller, get your money back, and try to get a retail version of Tiger. That comes with universal disks that can install on any Mac.

  • Is there any way i can back up my mac with itunes?

im not really a big fanof icloud so i was wondering if theres any way of backing my mac up using itunes.

iTunes is not a backup application, it only backs up iOS devices as a part of it's sync features.
Time Machine is the tool Apple make for backing up to a local hard disk or Time Capsule.
Mac Basics: Time Machine backs up your Mac - Apple Support
You can also make your own copies onto other hard disks via apps like Carbon Copy Cloner
    http://bombich.com/
Your options basically depend on what hard disks you have available & how much data you have to backup.

  • After I've Subscribed to the Creative Cloud Can I Transfer Old Licenses to Someone Else?

I have a question regaring licenses for previous versions of software.  I currently own a number of stand-alone licenses for prior versions of Illustrator, Photoshop and other applications from the Creative Suite.  Once I've upgraded to the Creative Cloud, I'll no longer have a use for these licenses.  Is there anything prohibiting me from transferring these licenses to someone else after I've subscribed?

  • How can I get a Mac to redo the new machine setup?

    Hey gang-
Is there a way to get a Mac to redo the new machine setup dialogs the way a Mac does the first time it is started out of the box? I'm selling my iBook and it would be nice for the new owner to be presented with that. I know I could do it by erasing and reinstalling the original CDs, but I'd like to include the various incremental Software Updates that I've done to save the new user the trouble.
Is there a way to get a Mac to do this?
    Thanks!
    Dave

John's method may work for the most part, but there are some things to be aware of that might cause problems for you or the new owner.
First, it doesn't get rid of everything you have installed or caused to be created in /Library or any of the caches except those in the /User folder. Some of the /Library items are probably things you want to pass on to the new owner, such as plug-ins that support apps. Some aren't, such as many of the /Library/Preferences items set by an admin user. Some may even contain sensitive data.
Second, you will be passing on a lot of clutter of dubious value to the new user, like logs, & any corruption of files that an Erase & Install would get rid of.
Third, Setup Assistant may or may not be designed to work & play well with updated apps & system components. This is unchartered territory. It may "undo" some of the things you want the new owner to have, or not.
Forth, if you have set up, for example, the Apache web server or any other UNIX-based service that required root or sudo access, these files will not necessarily be in their default state.
Fifth, there may be support items in /Users/Shared for both Apple & third party apps. John's step 4 will erase them.
Sixth, you need to consider OS 9 folders if you have used Classic, particularly if you have migrated anything from an older Mac. You may have user items, preferences, etc. that need to be purged.
Seventh, I probably have forgotten other things that more knowledgeable folk can fill you in on.
So, while it is possible to do what you want, it isn't really as easy as it seems. A better approach, & one that will serve both you & the new owner better in the long run, is to completely wipe the drive with a secure erase. Consider making a "bonus" CD or DVD for the new owner with all the latest updates, as a companion to the original installer set.
Something else to consider: If the Mac that you are putting up for sale did not come with Tiger, you can't include it legally in your sale unless you include the retail DVD & license you used to install it. The same is true of any apps that you might have added to the used Mac, including shareware you payed for. Aside from the ethical implications, you do not want to run into problems because of "shared" registration codes should you need them for support or upgrades.

  • How big of an external disk do I have to use to back up my mac mini using the time machine app?

I have a new Mac Mini, and I wanted to begin using time machine to back up my files.  I tried to use an external hard drive that is used for our other machines (PCs) and it would not allow that hard drive to be used b/c it did not have a valid file structure.  I did not know how to fix that, so I was going to buy another external hard drive to support backing up the Mac Mini with OSX10.8.1 and a 500GB hard drive.  I saw somewhere that as lonmg as I had twice the RAM (4GB) it should be ok, but that seemed to be too small.  I was considering buying a 500GB if necessary.
Does anyone know if I can use a small 8GB flash drive to support the backups or do I need a 500GB or similar external hard drive to backup the Mac Mini with time machine?
    Thanks.

It is recommended that Time Machine has its Own Dedicated Hard Drive that is at least Twice the size of the Drive(s) you intend to Backup.
