Can both iPhoto contents AND a separate folder be exported to Apple TV ?

I'd like the contents of iPhoto AND a separate folder of photographs on my hard drive, transferred to Apple TV, however I prefer not to import the folder of photographs into iPhoto.
Is there anyway I can do import to Apple TV from both iPhoto and the separate folder, or MUST I choose to import from iPhoto OR from the folder?
Many thanks.

There isn't a way to view folders and iphoto content from the same itunes library.
However as a work around you could set up a new user account on your mac, register the itunes library for the new user with the tv for streaming only and choose to stream folders (choose iphoto from your main user library or vice-versa).
Providing you have both user accounts open and itunes running in both, the tv will see both libraries regardless of which user is active, so once set up you can leave the second user running in the background.

  • Can I use both iPhoto 6 and 5 on the same Mac?

I gave up on iPhoto 6 when it comes to publishing web galleries (see my posts at http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=456532&tstart=0 )
Can I use both iPhoto 6 and 5 on the same Mac?
    Thanks!

    Lior:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Yes you can but it takes a lot of caution! You can have both application running their own library. But the problem comes in when you launch V5 into the last used library, a V6 library, and it can corrupt that library so it won't open in V6 again. Conversely, if you open V6 and the V5 library was the last to be opened and you don't pay attention, you'll convert it to a V6 and lose the V5 access.
So you have to make sure you ALWAYS launch iPhoto with the Option key depressed and manually select the library to use each time. Also Name each library differently. I use V6 LIbrary and V5 Library. You can rename your current one and then launch iPhoto with the Option key depressed and navigate to it to open it.

  • How do I move both my contents and playlists to my new computer?

How do I move both my contents and playlists to my new computer?  I have tried the suggestions in previous posts of copying the library and music folders into the itunes folder on my new pc.  I don't have the option to file>library>import anything.  The only thing that transfers, even on home sharing is purchased music.  No music loaded from CD's and no playlists.

  • Using both iPhoto 6 and iPhoto '08 - 3rd party software?

    Hey guys,
I recently purchased and installed iLife '08. After doing this I tried to run Still Life 2.3.4 This is a program that allows you to zoom and pan across photos for iMovie exactly the way you want. When I tired to run this program and open an old project I was working on, it said that it couldn't find the "rolls" in the iPhoto library where I had my photos stored. The next thing that I tried was to re-import all the photos from iPhoto '08. But Still Life does not even recognize the new library that iLife uses. My question is, is there a way to keep using iPhoto '06 while still keeping the other aspects of iLife '08. Or is there a way that you can have both iPhoto '06 and '08 at the same time? Please just give any advice. Thanks!

Sorry, I am having trouble posting. Please disregard.

  • My wife and I both have iPads and two separate iTunes accounts, and do NOT want to share apps

My wife and I share one MacBook. We both each have an iPad and we each have our own indvidual iTunes accounts. That is we have two separate individual iPads and two separate iTunes accounts. I do not want her apps on my iPad, and she does not want my apps on her iPad.
When my wife tries to update her apps on her iPad, it shows my user ID and requests my password. It does not even give her an option to put in her own iTunes account ID and password. This happens even though she is clearly logged in on her iPad under Settings --> Store with her own iTunes account, and have the same setup on my iPad (my own user ID and password for my iTunes account). I do not have this problem on my iPad.
How do we keep our apps separate? This is very annoying!
    Thanks!

There's info here on setting up separate libraries and user accounts. You won't have to reload (or re-import) all the music, just copy it.
The reason I suggest separate accounts on the Mac is because if you have the two libraries under the same user account, iTunes will also open the last library that was open in that account, and you'll always have to be mindful of which library that is. If you open iTunes and find it's not your library, you'll have quit, relaunch holding the option key and select the other library.
No, you won't have to log in and out of the Mac. (If I'm understanding your question here.) Multiple accounts can be logged in at the same time. And with fast user switching, you can toggle between user accounts.
I'll admit that maintaining the two libraries gets a little tricky, because if you share all the same music, you'll have to add it to one and update the other. (That won't happen automatically.) But I think Home Sharing makes this much easier to do.
    Hope that helps!

  • Can both an intel and a PPC mac use time machine on the same TC?

I just got a TC and have successfully used time machine with a MBP. I was about to install Leopard on my PPC eMac in order to use time machine on the TC but I wondered if they could both use the TC hard drive as it is currently formatted.
As I recall, intel macs use journaled GUID and PPC machines use another format.
    Am I deluded?

I don't think there is a problem, and I believe others have reported in these forums that they're doing it.
There is a lot of confusion in this area compounded by a number of people who say that some of the Apple KB articles are wrong/misleading.
But in this case it's more a case of it doesn't matter - here is why.....
The Time Capsule disk comes formatted, you can erase the disk via the Airport Utility. That's the closest you can come to formatting and you don't have options - so it does whatever it needs to do to get it right.
The machines being backed up don't access the Time Capsule's disk(s) directly as they do on a locally attached disk. They do it via AFP network disk protocol and the Time Capsule disk is in effect insulated from the machine being backed up.
(As an aside, it's because of this - the differences in what can be done over AFP - that the Time Capsule stores the backups in a different file format)
If you add a USB attached drive to the Time Capsule you can also erase it with the Airport Utility as above. In my case, I've attached a USB drive to my Time Capsule. I never had the Time Capsule erase it, but before attaching it I attached it locally and formatted it GUID and HFSJ and it work just fine when attached to the Time Capsule. Does it have to be formatted that way - I don't know - all I know is in this one case what I did works which doesn't prove it has to be that way.

  • Can both in-row and off-row LOBs be used in a where clause?

We are preparing to upgrade ASE from version 15.5 to 16.0.  One of the features that is very appealing has to do with the changes made concerning the handling of LOBs.  In particular, the ability to use a LOB column in search arguments (where clause) is something our developers have longed for since the retirement of the full-text search option.  So, in version 16.0, can any column with a datatype of text be used as a search argument? Are there any restrictions.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Kevin,
The in-row LOB feature is mainly designed to save space when a text column has many short values, which is a particularly bad problem when the server uses a large page size (like 16K) as ASE would use a full 16K to store even a single bye "Y".  I don't think the feature made any change in how text can be used in search arguments.  i.e. you can still use LIKE and IS [NOT] NULL, but not others.
    Example:
    1> create table t (x text in row (8))
    2> go
    1> insert t values ("abc")
    2> insert t values ("abcdefghijkl")

  • Can both my husband and i back up our separate iPhones on his one laptop?

I have to back up my iPhone and cannot find my laptop. I have to do it now. so I was told I could back up to my husbands laptop by the Apple support person. How do I do that?
If I back up to iTunes, will my pictures be there?

Yes, you can back up to his laptop. But make sure your phones have different names, or the backups of your phone and his will be combined. Photos are included in the backup, but it is better to transfer them to the computer using the Camera and Scanner wizard in Windows or Image Transfer on a Mac, just like you would for any other digital camera.
To be safe before connecting any phone to your computer go to iTunes preferences, Devices tab, and check Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from syncing automatically.

  • How to merge parts of two iPhoto libraries and remain separate users

We have two user accounts - let's call them A and B - on our iMac and hence two separate libraries which is fine for the major part of our photos, but we have many photos of mutual adventures and hopefully more to come in the future. If this is relevant: the photos are imports from other computers, but are no longer available from these computers. There's a continuous backup on Time Capsule via Time Machine.
We would like to share the photos from the two existing accounts, except those that are from each users past.
I expect to have to move or copy some photos including new imports in the future to a new shared library AND keep our old libraries from the past separate as they are from the past.
I further more would like to share the photos from mutual adventures to to Apple TV - maybe via Airplay as I can already do with the iTunes library on account A.
It seems to me the best way would be to have a separate user account -  account C - for mutual iPhoto and our music in iTunes, BUT user A synchronize the music to my iPhone and user B does not yet. To complicate things - I think - user B has less storage on the iPhone than user A, so the full iTunes library simply does not fit on user B. I do realise it's possible to do selective synchronisation of music, but will this work in such a setup?
    How do I do this?

Thank you for a quick reply. Unfortunately this is turning out to be more complicated than I initially had hoped. Please see why in explanation below.
I would like to give more information about the setup, just to be absolutely sure there's no smart setup for us. As user A was the first user in our network this user has an iTunes id which is used for the Appstore/iTunes syncing iPhone/Airplay to share music and photos from user A's library. User A (unfortunately?) also has an iCloud id which is different from the iTunes id in order to use the iCloud sync features for Mail/iCal etc. User B has an iTunes id and a small music library, but is currently not using it. User B also has an iCloud id to use the sync features.
From your answers it seems there's no way to "get it all" (sharing, syncing, personal/mutual data) in our current setup and the whole iCloud/Air Play/sharing is a little confusing to me, but given that the primary purpose is to show the mutual photos as a screensaver on our iMac and Apple TV and play the music there too there are two ways to do this:
    1. your suggested setup with the extra library (to be shared via Airplay to Apple TV with an iTunes id assigned to the new Media user iTunes/iPhoto library). In this setup user B looses the ability to see photos on the iPad unless duplicates exist.
    2. copying all mutual photos for user A respectively B to two separate albums in the existing separate libraries and making these albums available as screensavers and sharing via Airplay, BUT with the limitation that only one user's album will be available at a time as screensaver and as far as the Apple TV goes the users two separate iTunes id's have to be used to access the album from one user at a time.
    Question:
Ref. 1 As I understand it iTunes purchases are linked to one id. So what are the consequences for a user if the iTunes id is in use for the Apple TV homesharing via Airplay and a logon is attempted on the user's iPhone?
Ref. 1 As I understand the sharing setup the iTunes id for user A with the most music must be the preferred one for the new Media user and the music library for user A must also be copied to the new Media user?
Ref. 2 As I said the whole iCloud/sharing/synchronizing issues are a little confusing. Given the above information with two separate iPhones, iTunes accounts, iCloud accounts and the wish to share photos/music
Do you see any smarter way to do this than your initial suggestion?

  • Is it a MUST to have both itunes library and itunes music folder?

I just noticed I have 22 GB of music in itunes library (itunes application) and also 22GB of music in itunes music folder. Do I need to have both folders active? What would happen if I delete all the music in itunes music folder? Should that delete all the songs in my itunes application?
    Thanks.

The iTunes Library is a database file, it contains references to songs you've added to the library, their location on your hard drive, playlists, ratings etc. The library does not contain the actual song files. The iTunes Music Folder is the folder that contains the song and other media files. Deleting the folder that contains the songs would mean the the library couldn't locate them (because they would no longer exist) and there would be nothing to play. The iTunes application (the actual program) resides in your Applications folder. You'll get more information including the Folder/File structure in this article: What are the iTunes library files?
