Can Calendar Alerts Be Changed?

Hi,
I'm a very happy iPhone user, in fact it is probably the best little device I have ever owned. Apart from the main features it has to offer, alot of the enjoyment I get from it is due to the quirky sounds & tones you can choose for a new SMS, and the sent mail/new mail noises that come with the phone.
All of these are very subtle and refined, apart from that is the Calendar events reminder alert. In comparison this is clunky and very 'non-Apple' in many ways, if that makes any sense!!!
I have searched high and low but can't find any way of selecting your own Calendar alert tone, which probably means that its not an option. Does anyone know or have found out a way if it is possible to change it???
I know its the most minor of quibbles but any help/ideas would be appreciated!
Many thanks in advance,
Chris.

I agree with Fopster. I too have submitted feedback on this issue per your link. Not everyone has a job in a quiet office where they can hear the cute little alerts. Personally, I need something LOUD and Vibrating, that will get my attention when in noisy environments. The ATT Tilt has the best calendar alert I can find.
Thanks,
Dave

  • Calendar Alerts when Changing Timezones are delayed.

So I work and live on the east coast. I have my iPhone calendar syncing w/ our google apps calendar and it works wonderfully.
My problem is that when I travel to the west coast, my alerts on my iphone still show up 3 hours late. My phone has changed to west coast time, and I changed the time zone on google apps to west coast as well.
    Any ideas?

From p.92 of the manual, +"When Time Zone Support is on, Calendar displays event dates and times in the time zone of the city you selected. When Time Zone Support is off, Calendar displays events in the time zone of your current location as determined by the network time."+
So, if Time Zone Support is ON, it shows the events in the time zone city selected. But, if Time Zone Support is OFF, it uses local time.

  • I can hardly see calendar alerts on macbook.  How do I get it back to where I can easily see them?

    I have a macbook pro 17" bought in 2011 running OS X Yosemite Processor 2.3GHZ Intel Core i7, Memory 8GB 1333MHz DDR3, Intel HD Graphics 3000 512MB.
For the last two days my calendar alerts and notifications are appearing so light that I can hardly see them.  How do I get them to show up so I can see them?  I have no idea how this started.  I have tried looking at Notification Center on System Preferences and changed them from Alert to Banner but it made no difference.
    Thanks for your help.

With respect, you actually cannot store folders on the left side of the Dock - only on the right side. I wonder if you're talking about Launchpad, which looks like a silver rocket and shows you your installed applications? It's not actually a shortcut to the Applications folder, though. You can certainly drag Launchpad into the left side of the Dock from the Applications folder.

  • Ipad change calendar alert sound

Is there a way, or 3rd party product, to change the alert sound in the calendar on the iPad? Apple has become way too popular at work, just about everyone has an iPad or an iPhone synced with their outlook calendars. The problem is that when the alert goes off I have no idea if it is mine or someone elses, as they all sound the same.

Settings>Sounds>Calendar Alerts. There are a bunch of sounds from which you can choose.

  • Changing calendar alert notification sounds.

I have an iPod Touch 2g and have been able to successfully sync it with the MS Exchange server we have at work. I can set an alarm for it and customize the sound for it so it can change. However, the Calendar event notification sound is on SciFi whenever an event is sent. A search of the forums suggest that the calendar event notification sound cannot be changed, but if this was true it'd be on a more default setting and not on the "scifi" sound, wouldn't it?
Currently, the only way I can see of changing the event alert sound would be to change the alarm clock sound as this seems to affect it indirectly (the alarm sound was set to sci-fi as well when changing the settings). Is there another way to specify the calendar alert sounds?
    Thanks.

I've never used it but there is a place to set it on the menubar. Mail > Preferences.. > General tab > New messages sound: Set to one of the built ins or select add/remove to select a custom tone.

  • Two iPhones. One account. Can I have separate calendar alerts?

I have a new 4s. My wife has my old 3GS. We are using the same iTunes/iCloud apple I'd account. It's nice because she can make her own calendar and I can make my own calendar. If I don't want to see her calendar I just deselect it in the calendars to view menu. I can see her stuff if I want to and she mine by going the other way. The problem is Calendar ALERTs. Even if I've deselected her calendar, my iPhone still beeps a reminder at me from one of her Calendar alerts and vice versa. Is there some way to make it so that the alerts only occurr if I've selected her calendar to view?
I also have kinda the same problem with reminders. She gets mine and I get hers even though I've got two separate "lists" of reminders. Can I stop that?
Also a similar deal with contacts. Can we have separate contacts lists and only see the others when we want to?

    No, sorry.

  • Why did my calendar view suddenly change? Using iOS 7.1 and I've been using this version for a few weeks with no problem with my calendar. Now the view has changed and I can't view a list mode without seeing the month too

Why did my calendar view suddenly change in iCal? I've been using ios7 fôr a few weeks now with no problems. Suddenly, without any updates or anything, the calendar view changed and I can no longer view it as a list without having the entire month seen as well.

    Hey Gattypyle,
Thanks for the question. You simply need to go back to Day/Week view, then tap the list-view icon once more.

  • When I try to add a new event to iCal a dialog says "you can't add or change events in the Birthday Calendar". How do I cancel this?

When I try to add a New Event to iCal a dialog box keeps saying "you can't add or change events in the Birthday Calendar". iCal is, however, receiving up-dates from my other devoces via iCloud. Can anyone help unblock this for me please?

You can not add events to the birthday's calendar. To add birthday's to the birthday calendar you need to add the birthday to a contact in the Contacts app.
You can set your default calendar here:
iCal > Preferences > General  > Default Calendar and chose the calendar you want to default to.

  • Can't Silence Calendar Alerts

I can't get alerts in iCal to silence. I've turned to "off" the "Calendar Alerts" option in the "Sounds" settings, but to no avail. I use a lot of alerts in iCal on my notebook, which is fine when I'm using my notebook, but I'd rather not have alerts sounding on my iPhone (most of the time). I used to think that only those iCal events that were synced from my notebook were the ones that would sound, but tests show that events created on my iPhone are also oblivious to the Calendar Alerts/Off setting. Searching this forum reveals that this has been a problem since a posting in late July, but 1.1.1 didn't fix it. Does anyone know how to make this feature work? Thanks. (Oh, and if the "Calendar Alerts" setting doesn't turn off calendar alerts, what does it do?)

Yes, this is driving me crazy. And it's only recent, for me. In other words, it had always vibrated as a calendar alert; I could live with that. Now it's vibrating and chirping too, even though sounds are set to OFF. I've submitted a bug report and encourage everyone to. And if anyone has figured out how to disable this, please let me know. iPhones should be seen and not heard, unless I say otherwise

  • How can I remove calendar alerts from my iPhone?

My iPhone 4 (iOS 6) seems to be adding calendar alerts on its own and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to remove them. I use iCal on my Macbook Pro (running Mountain Lion 10.8.2) to sync my calendar events. None of my events on iCal have alerts set to them and I have disabled all alerts in my iCal preferences. Yet, for some reason, when I look at a calendar event on my iPhone, an alert is set for it.
How do I remove these properly? I do not simply want to silence these alerts, but figure out how they got there in the first place and remove them completely. For comparison's sake, I've included an image of the event from iCal and the event from my iPhone.

    Hi pjdemeo,
I understand you want to delete all of the photos from your iPhone.  As a precaution, I would suggest importing the photos and videos from your iPhone into your computer.  This will give you a backup for the images, and after import you will be asked if you want to delete the photos.
Import photos and videos from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your Mac or Windows PC - Apple Support
    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201302
The iPhone User Guide has instructions for deleting photos directly from the device:
Organize photos and videos - iPhone
    http://help.apple.com/iphone/8/#/iphf14943e
Delete a photo or video from Photos. Tap the Photos tab, tap the photo or video, tap , then tap Delete Photo or Delete Video. Deleted photos and videos are kept in the Recently Deleted album on iPhone, with a badge showing the remaining days until the item is permanently removed from iPhone. To delete the photo or video permanently before the days expire, tap the item, tap Delete, then tap Delete Photo or Delete Video. If you use iCloud Photo Library beta, deleted photos and videos are permanently removed from all iOS 8.1 devices that use iCloud Photo Library beta with the same Apple ID.
    Cheers,

  • I can no longer determine a calendar alert snooze time?

I'm very dependent on my calendar alerts and use them for recurring events like bill paying and unique events like meetings and doctor appointments. Up until OS 10.7 (Lion), when an alert popped up and I wanted to continue being alerted of that event, I could simply choose the snooze time (be it 5 minutes, an hour, a day or a week) and could continue to be re-reminded until I chose not to be.
Last week I upgraded to Mountain Lion so I could take maximum advantage of iCloud and my new iPhone 5. After much frustration and searching, it's apparent that the option of determining the snooze time in "Calendar", formerly known as "iCal" is simply no longer an option. Why remove a core feature of a core app? I'm stuck using the default snooze time as set in the calendar app, then, when the alert does pop up, I'm stuck with either dismissing it completely or hitting "snooze" only to be reminded every 15 or 20 minutes. This works okay for events with a short lag time, but in other cases (I will sometimes set up a bill payment reminder days before it's due so I have time to cover the due amount in my bank account) I'm stuck having either it pop up incessantly for days EVERY 20 minutes for DAYS or dismissing it, risking missing the payment due date.
I know from scanning these forums that a lot of other people are unhappy with the dumbed down functionality of this core app. I haven't been able to find an alternative to the app from any third-party. It sounds like both "busycal" and "fantastical" are dependent on Apple's calendar app so I don't know if they will solve the problem or not. I don't really wnat to spend money on a third party app just to get back a core function of an app I've been dependent on for years.
If anyone has found a good alternative to help get back this simple, but critical functionality, I'd love to know about it. Thanks!

I have also submitted feedback to Apple about this, as I think they have rendered Calendar all but useless by stripping out the ability to set sound cues, and to specify the lag time when hitting the "snooze" button. I completely agree, this is a serious and unprofessional messtep to remove a core function as though it were a trivial feature of the software. I've been a loyal Apple consumer for two decades, and this really makes me angry.
I am hopeful the wonderful people at Apple will restore this function with the next update to the OS.

  • Iphone 4s calendar alert issue

I tend to put 2 alerts on my calendar events, one for 1 day before and the second one for 1 hour before (or some other on the day of event).  I have noticed that when I put in the first alert for 1 day before and then enter the second alert for 1 hour before and click done they have somehow been reversed, the first alert is now 1 hour before and the second alert is 1 day before.  I have to click them again and change them to the proper order, this usually take about 3 tries to get them to stay as I want them.  I can them save the event and all is good.  I was at the Apple store and the staff duplicated this issue so I know I'm not the only one experiencing this nuissance.  Has anyone else come across this?  I do hope the upcoming update will fix it.

    Update since Genius visit:
    1) Apple is working on an update
    2) There is no awareness at Apple of this calendar alert issue as a bug, hence it is not being addressed/worked on
    3) Solutions offered by Genius have not resolved this issue.
Solutions offered by Genius, in order of which to try first:
    1) Delete calendar data from iPhone: Settings>iCloud>Calendars OFF and then restore data from iCloud: Calendars ON
    2) Reset iPhone settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset all settings
    3) Restore to factory settings: Settings>General>Reset>Erase all content and settings, then restore data from iCloud and in-app backups.
    4) Use another calendar app (seriously)
Of course, if the bug is actually part of the iOS software (could it be?) then no amount of erasing and restoring data will fix the issue.  I completed the first two options with no change, and am not willing to do the third option because I am not interested in going through the process of backing up, then restoring all my third-party apps.
My solution: raise awareness of this issue with Apple, so that it can be worked on and fixed.   I have reported it as a bug through Apple's feedback module: http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html and I encourage-- no, ask-- you to do the same, if you are experiencing this issue.  I provided a link to this forum topic to show the variety and detail of problems.

  • My calendar alerts are no longer audio.

My calendar alerts on my Ipod touch used to be audio.  At some point I've lost that.  The alert will pop up, but will not tone.  All other audio (alarm, music, etc.) works just fine.  How can I get my audio back for my alerts?

think I did that right...the apple appeared anyway
when I tap any of the sounds under the calendar alerts (or the reminder alerts) nothing is audible.  yet, when I tap under the ringtones, I can hear each of them as I change.  I did set the timer, just to make sure I could hear that, and it works just fine (played marimba just like always...)  This is bizarre, because the alerts used to tone...I don't remember doing anything different, or any updates, before they quit working.
let me know if you can think of anything else...those tones are qreat for when I get busy.  I could set it to alert me an hour before an appointment and then I didn't miss a thing!

  • Calendar alerts not happening

My calendar entries have little yellow bells by them, but the Bb's not giving any kind of audible alert tone or vibration when the appt. is due. I've looked in calendar options, profiles, where my Bb is set to "normal," and settings, but nothing about setting the calendar alerts is there.  It seems like such a simple issue--anyone know how to turn on the calendar alert?
Thanks so much for your time, and best wishes!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You have to first click on your profile icon, then scroll down and select advanced. Then click on normal if that's what you use. Then you will see all the things you can change the tone for. Click calendar and adjust as you wish, just remember to hit the back key and save.

  • Calendar alert issue

    Hi all,
I've got a minor annoying issue. My wife (iPhone 4 with iOS6) and I (iPhone 5 wiht iOS6) share an apple account. On iCloud, we've got two calendars. The first is called "Calendar" which is there for us to put all of our general home stuff (birthdays, vacations, appts, etc) and is intended for both of us to use. I've got a second calendar called "Dan" which is just for me with a bunch of stuff she doesn't care about.
Here's the issue. In Calendar, she clicked "Calendars" and deselected the "Dan" under "iCloud Calendars". The only other calendar her Calendar app now shows is our default shared calendar. So, anything I put on the "Dan" calendar no longer shows up... yay! HOWEVER, alerts from my "Dan" calendar still appear on her phone. In other words, if I put an event called "test" on JUST my "Dan" calendar with an alert to go off at 1:00, at that time, BOTH of our phones go off and display alerts. The Event still doesn't show up in her calendar though.
SO, my question is, how can she make it so alerts from "Dan" calendar don't show up on her phone? It's annoying for her, and not cool for me if I want to put in an event that she shouldn't know about.
    Thanks,
    Dan P.
