Can Canon MP600R scan wirelessly?

I am totally confused about my all-in-one. Before Lion I used it successfully for printing and scanning, both using USB and Ethernet connection. I can't recollect using it wirelessly.
I'd like to use it wirelessly now, but I have problems. The printer works very unreliably, getting connection error from time to time, and the scanner does not work at all. When I open Canon IJ Network Scanner Selector, I see my scanner but I can't select it. The radio buttons are disabled and 'Do Not Use' is selected.
I did completely reinstall the printer, removed all the drivers and Canon software, with no luck. All I need is for it to wirelessly print reliably and scan using Image Capture. Can anyone confirm it is possible, and if guide me step-by-step through the reinstallation?

Could you enlighten me as to what the ICA scanner driver is? I have my mp600r connected via usb now and I am able to scan via Image Capture.
The ICA driver (Image Capture Architecture) is for the purpose of scanning into Image Capture. Unlike the full scanner driver that lets you scan into TWAIN supported applications like Acrobat Pro and Photoshop, the ICA driver is just for Image Capture and provides a simple user interface for adjusting a few parameters.
The ICA drivers are located in Library > Image Capture > Devices. Here you may see one or two CanonIJScanner packages.Checking both of them on my Mac, I cannot find an entry for the MP600/R (the R model has the wifi support). So unless the CanonIJScanner package on your Mac does have the MP600 listed, then I don't know how you are able to use Image Capture via USB. AFAIK the TWAIN driver is not used, and I only have scanners and AIOs that are in the list so I cannot check this.
To your current issue, with you now being able to select the MP600R in the Canon IJ Scanner Selector, if you open MP Navigator, are you able to open the Preferences tab to ensure you have the networked MP600R selected, rather than the direct USB connected MP600R?

Why oh why can we not scan wirelessly?
I installed something called sane-twain, but that didn't work either.
I then decided to remove all scangear drives that came with the canon and now can't even scan when plugged in to MBP direct.
    What is the solution?
    There must be a solution.
    Please Help.

No, there must be some sort of solution as there are some who claim their hp and epson printers allow this. There just must be a solution. I'm an internet programmer and believe nothing on a computer is impossible. This is my mission.... lol...
Plus my printer cost a dam fortune. hehe

  • Please can anyone help. I am trying to reconect wirelessly my Macbook pro laptop to a canon mp600r printer ?

HI.Can anyone help please. I'm trying to wirelessly reconect my Mac book pro laptop to my canon mp600r wireless printer. I had it working once but after having secured my linksys router ( set a password ) it no longer conects wirelessly but it works with a cable.

You need to run through the wireless network connection wizard on the printer.  Try looking under Menu or Setup choices on the printer's LCD.  It should be no different than what you did initially with it, except this time when you pick your WIFI network from the available list, it'll ask you for a password, at which point you type in what you set it up when you secured your network.  Once you've done that, your laptop will see it again... you shouldn't have to reload any drivers or add it back on, it'll just see it again since it's just the network connection that's broken.
BTW, I hope you chose to secure your WIFI network with WPA2/AES encryption.  If not, you might as well take the time now and just reconfigure it again to secure it with that and then fix your printer connection.  It's the most secure.

  • Can't scan wirelessly from Canon Pixma MX892

I'm on the latest OS X 10.8.2.  I can scan wirelesly at home with no problems from my HP OfficeJet 6900 series.  I just open up the Preview app, choose File > Import from Scanner and away I go.
But I just bought a new Canon Pixma MX892 that claims to scan wirelessly.  I've printed wirelessly with no problems from the Canon printer.  But when I want to scan a document, I open the Preview app and the option to Import from Scanner is grey and I'm not able to select it.
I went to the Canon website and found the scanner drivers and installed those.  But it still doesn't work.
    I'm stuck.  Help!

I figured out how to make it work by going back to the product page (http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/printers_multifunction/pixma_mx_s eries/pixma_mx892#DriversAndSoftware) and downloading the MP Navigator EX Ver. 5.1.0.
You have to choose your OS and version.  Then the MP Navigator is located in the Software menu.
Once I downloaded this program, I was eventually able to set it up and scan from it.
But still no option to scan from the menu in the Preview program.

  • Strange Behaviour while scanning from Canon MP600r with 10.5.7

    Dear all,
I am working with the Canon MP600r (wifi) and scanned without any probs in Tiger. In Leopard I could not scan until 10.5.5. came out. Again everything was fine. Now in 10.5.6 and 10.5.7 I have strange problems: I can use the preview, abut while scanning suddenly it says that there is no communication with the scanner...!!
    Hope for little help
    Thanks
    Bernhard

    Hello Bernhard,
Your issue sounds like there may be a problem with signal strength. I would open the Canon IJ Network Tool (which you can access via the Utility icon from the Printer Queue) and check the signal strength.
If the strength is okay then you could try scanning at a low resolution, such as 75dpi. If you usually scan at a higher resolution, then scanning at a lower resolution will make the scanned file smaller and if that works then you know you still have a network quality issue. What brand and model of wireless router do you have?

  • Canon MP600R WiFi Network Scan/Print Failure

    Hi there
    My setup:
    * a Canon MP600R multifunctional printer/scanner
    * an Apple iMac running Snow Leopard
    * a Dell Laptop running Windows Vista, and
    * a Netgear WGT624v3 wireless router.
The printer and the two computers are all wirelessly connected to the router - there are no USB cables or wired LAN connections being used between these machines. All the machines have statically configured IP addresses (printer included).
I can print and scan reliably from/to the Windows laptop. Printing from the Mac used to work reliably, but scanning to/from the iMac only worked once in a blue moon.
To try to fix this, I updated the drivers on the Mac to the latest versions for Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard), and now I can't print or scan at all. The software I've been using is:
    From Canon Europe:
    * mp600rosxcp102620ea8-2.dmg - CUPS Printer Driver for OSX (10.26.2)
    * mp600rosxns10ea7-3.dmg - MP Drivers for Network (Snow Leopard) (1.00)
    * mp600rosxsd12131ej7.dmg - ScanGear CS for OS X (12.13.1)
    * mpnosx304ej7.dmg - MP Navigator- MP Navigator for Mac OS X (3.04)
    From Apple:
    * CanonPrinterDrivers2.3.dmg - Apple's Canon Printer Drivers (http://support.apple.com/kb/DL899)
    From Canon Australia:
    * ntosxm270ea8-2.dmg - IJ Network Tool Ver. 2.7.0
After many delete/reinstall steps on the Mac (following PAHU's advice!) and much Googling - including disabling/enabling firewall settings, IPv6 settings and even various router RIP settings - I could do with some help please!
What appears to be happening is that the Mac can't 'see' the printer, whereas the PC can - the drivers all seem to be installed in a similar way, and once set up (using the one-off USB connection step that the installers seem to like) they all have the right MAC address info. However the Mac Network Scan Utility shows a warning next to the printer's MAC address, whereas the PC is happy. Likewise, the PC's printer utilities can tell me about ink levels, the Mac's one gives me a communication error and puts the printer into paused mode.
This leads me to believe it was something going on on the network. I can, however, ping the printer from the Mac and access it's web configuration interface - so it's not that the printer's unreachable from the Mac.
To try to see what was going on in a bit more detail, I installed Wireshark and did some captures of the use of the Network Tool and Scan Utility.
On the PC (192.168.0.4), which works, it appears to direct the BJNP discovery commands direct to the printers IP address (192.168.0.2).
On the Mac (192.168.0.5), which fails, it appears to be broadcasting BJNP discovery messages to the subnet (192.168.0.255) and receiving ICMP Parameter problem responses from the printer.
So, is this likely to be:
    A. the Canon drivers on the Mac
    B. the Netgear router doing something to stop the broadcast discovery, or
    C. something in the printer firmware?
If so, any ideas how to workaround it - for example, can I 'force' the Mac version of the drivers to not do broadcast discovery and simply go direct to the IP address like the PC?
    Any help, pointers, gratefully received!

    Hi PAHU
Thank you very much for responding - particularly with such detailed and reasoned advice!
I have just tried deleting the BJPrinter folder, restarting and reinstalling only the Apple Canon Printer Drivers 2.3. On opening Print & Fax -> Add Printer I don't see anything in the window (no Bonjour Scanner or canonijnetwork) - I have left it open for more than 20 minutes now and still nothing.
Using wireshark, I can see the Canon BJNP Discover packets to both 8611 and 8612 (and some mdns and db-lsp-disc packets). I can see the printer responding with error responses too:

  • OS 10.6.8 and Canon printer.  Prints wireless but will not scan wireless.

Just bought a Canon MX890 multifunction.  OS 10.6.8.  Used Canon support to help me set up wireless and I can print wireless but it will not scan wireless.  Error message reads:  "Cannot communicate with scanner for these reasons:  Scanner is turned off or USB cable is disconnected."  Any suggestions?

Sounds like you are trying to use Canon's MP Navigator application. To get this to work via wireless, you first need to open Canon IJ Network Selector which is located in Applications > Canon Utilities. With this application open it should show you the MX890 on the network. Select it and OK the change.
Next step is to open the MP Navigator application and click on the Preferences button. Then from the General tab you need to ensure the Canon MX890 Network is set.
With these two actions completed you should be able to scan with MP Navigator.
Or as Carolyn has instructed, you can use Image Capture which is included with OS X to scan from the MX890.

  • OS X 10.6.1, Canon Pixma MP600R, and wireless Airport Extreme Base Station

I can't get my MacBook Pro on OS X 10.6.1 to recognise my Canon MP600R printer via my AEBS. There was no problem with its predecessor, an iBook on Tiger.
As well as the MacBook I've got a PC on XP Home + SP3. The setup I'm aiming for is USB access to the MP600R from the PC and wireless access from the MacBook. At present I've got USB access from both machines.
Having got into a mess with a previous attempt to set up wireless access from the MacBook I did the following:
    1) Deleted the MP600R from both machines.
    2) Reset the LAN Settings in the MP600R via its control panel.
    3) Reinstalled the MP600R software on the PC.
    4) Reinstalled the MP600R via USB on the PC.
    5) Reinstalled the CUPS printer driver 10.26.1 from the Canon website on the MacBook.
    6) Reinstalled the MP600R via USB on the Macbook.
Both machines can now print to the MP600R successfully if I plug its USB cable into the machine - via a hub for the PC, directly for the MacBook.
I tried to follow the advice given by Pahu on 30 October in response to similar problems encountered by Tommisauce. See the last post in:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2209420&tstart=0&messageID=104 93384#10493384
    I did the following:
    7) Connected the MP600R via USB to the MacBook
    8) Preferences / Print & Fax / selected MP600R / Options & Supplies / Utility / Open Printer Utility / selected Network from drop-down list (under USB).
Nothing happened - the Printer List window was empty and the Network Setting and Maintenance buttons were greyed out.
    I tried:
    9) Preferences / Print & Fax / clicked on + to add a printer / selected Default.
No printer appeared in in the panel under Printer Name.
I printed the MP600R's LAN Settings via its control panel. It reported Wireless LAN enabled, Wired LAN enabled, and Printer Access Control off (it's also off in the AEBS at present).
On the MacBook there is no Canon IJ Network Utility. On the Canon website the only software which would work with OS X 10.6, apart from the CUPS printer driver, was MP Navigator, which I don't need on the MacBook.
I would be grateful for any advice on what to try next. I don't have a very firm grasp of what's going on, but try to follow instructions carefully.
    Hopefully, Seamus O'Connell

    Hello Seamus,
I think the issue you have is being caused by the Canon IJ Network Tool missing from your 10.6.1 Mac. I have done another clean install of 10.6.1 today on my test Mac and can see that the tool is not included by default. So this is probably the cause of the Network Settings button being disabled. You can download the tool via this link.
However, if the printer already has an IP address set, I thought that you would not need the tool. Again from my testing, I was able to connect to my MP980 connected via wireless to my Extreme without the IJ Tool being installed. I found that with the new v10.26 driver installed, the printer would eventually appear in the Default browser view after a short period of time. This delay caused some drama for users, as the scanner would appear in the view quickly, while the printer could take up to 10 seconds to appear. Also, with 10.5, the process to add the printer was via the More Printers > Canon IJ Network setting. This changed with 10.6, however Canon failed to mention this on their support web site.
Anyway, install the v2.7.0 IJ Network Tool and see if that helps to get you going again. Pls reply if you still need help.

I have a Lexmark Prevail Pro 705. Latest (as of july 30, 2012) firmware. Mac driver v 11.0
I can no longer communicate wirelessly with the scan feature of the printer. I can print no problem using a wireless connection. Using a window's machine I can scan wirelessly from the printer. It seems that my iMac (OSX 10.8, 3.06 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, 24inch early 2009) is not connecting to it. I can put a USB cord into the computer and scan.
Any ideas? This came up starting 2 weeks ago. I had hoped the operating system upgrade would solve it. It has not. I see nothing on the Lexmark boards about this. Since the printer works fine in both print an scan mode using a windows machine and can print fine from a Mac but not scan I don't have any ideas but I suspect it is the Mac.

  • After upgrading to OS 10.8.1 I can no longer scan from my Canon MP240 printer when it is connected to Airport Express.

I can no longer scan from printer (Canon Pixma MP240) when it is connected to Airport Express, although printing is no affected. However, when connected directly to MBP scanning works fine. I have tried all the standard remedies; reinstalling drivers, resetting printer system, selecting sharing options, but no luck. Previous to Mountain Lion this function worked fine. Any ideas how to regain this capability?
    Thanks,
    J.

I'm almost completely certain that the scanning feature worked before the update. Having said that though, I don't scan a great deal and it may be the case that when I have done, the printer was directly connected to the MBP. However, since I have a laptop it's far more logical that I would have had the printer connected to Airport Express for reasons of portability so I can't really see that I would have had the printer connected directly to the laptop. Besides this, I have no memory of having this problem previously. Therefore, I don't think my memory is to blame although of course, if it were I'd have no way of knowing!

Turn of the MG and unplug the power cord. Leave it off for about a minute and then reconnect the power cord and turn the power back on. Wait while the device attempts to reconnect to your wireless network - the blue wifi symbol on the MG will flash and then stay on once it has connected. If it keeps flashing then you will have to reconnect the MG to your wireless access point via the control panel on the MG.

  • HP8500A all-in-one can no longer scan thru wireless network but prints fine.

HP8500A all-in-one can no longer scan thru wireless network but prints fine. Have used this device several times over past 2 years on different wireless networks (at home) but usually at some point I lose wireless scan function but maintain wireless Printing.  I used to be able to reload the software and resolve the issue but now in this "new network" cannot get wireless scanning to work.   Setup software; original software (CD) and current download as well as "Print/Scan Dr"  hangs-up at "network check"  for hours.  Compaq laptop, Dell Laptop, Cell phones and Roku work fine thru network.  Scanner works fine with USB to Laptops.

    Which model Epsons are they?
I'm assuming you're using Yosemite (OS X 10.10), and that the problem developed when you upgraded from a previous OS.
    (Your profile says 10.6.7 BTW).
Maybe the scanning function is not compatible with Yosemite.
You could try a few things:
    reset your wifi system:
power down everything: modem, router, computer, printer/scanners.
    wait a minute.
power them all up again, in that order: modem, router, computer, printers. Let each power up completely before going on to the next.
try a factor reset on your printer/scanner (if there is such a function). You'll have to check your manual for how. If you do that you'll have to enter the wifi password in your printer/scanner, assuming you have security on your network.
uninstall any printer manufacturer "utilities" that are on your Mac, and try Image Capture again.
If it is a compatible software issue, you could try VueScan, but I've never needed to use it.

Canon Pixma MG6120 Wireless printer - can't install mg6100swin104ejs.exe 64 bit wirelss driver on Windows 7 64bit when printer is registered to 10.0.1.X Airport Extreme. Even if I enable Advanced Port Mapping, Printer Sharing the Canon software doesn't recognize the printer if it is registered wirelessly to the Airport Extreme. Canon senior tech support and Apple senior tech support don't know how to help. Any advice for someone who was able to get a Canon Pixma Printer to work with their Airport Extreme from a Windows 7 64bit PC also connected to 10.0.1.X subnet? Your advice is greatly appreciated. The printer once online is pingable at 10.0.1.9 and I can see SD cards and browse photo's just can't get the Canon software to wirelessly activate/install.

To print from an iPAD using the Lexmark S300 series, you need to download the LexPrint app from this link: LexPrint
    Hope this helps.

  • Can print but not scan wirelessly with Cannon MX860

I have a MacBook Pro (mid 2009) and just upgraded to Mountain Lion this week. Everything seemed to be working fine until I tried to use my scanner. I use the "Open Scanner" interface that comes with OS X as opposed to the Cannon scanner software because for me it's just more intuitive and easier to use. I tried to open the "Open Scanner" function for my MX860, but all that came up was a grey box with the 'Scan" and "Hide Details" buttons greyed out. When I had Lion and launched this function, my computer would automatically lanuch a preview scan of whatever it was I was trying to scan.
I tried deleting my printer and scanner from my print/scan queue, but now I can only re-install the printer. How do I add the scanning function back into the queue so I can use the "Open Scanner" function to scan wirelessly from my MX860?
NOTE: I am not interested in using the Cannon Scanner software to scan. I want to use the scanning software that comes with OS X. Please help!

    Hello havenrock,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are having some scanning issues when attempting to scan to your computer with a wireless connection.
When scanning over a wireless connection, one of the more common issues is the Firewall or anti virus blocking communication.  I suggest you disable the firewall and the anti virus protection and then reboot the computer.
Once the computer is back on, attempt the scan again.
Let me know how you make out and if you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to ask.
    Cheers,
