Can CF8 be fit for my project?

Hello everyone,
I am getting started to learn ColdFusion8(CF8). I can't
decide whether CF8 is appropriate for my project, so I am eager to
hear your advice.
Firstly, I'd like to give a brief introduction to the
project. It is a video blog website and every registered user can
deliver his flash video and a story to the server. It must support
3,000 people to visit the site at the same time.
Secondly, my approach for designing this site is to make the
application server creating static HTML pages according to a
predefined template when registered users' contents(flash videos
and stories) come to the server. The name of a static HTML file is
formed by the user's name and generating date which can ensure that
the name differ from each other. What write to the database are
these names of files and users' information, rather than the
contents themselves, which will save the time when users upload the
contents and when visitors request the pages because during those
processes, no additional database writing and reading associated
with the contents are needed and the main purpose of the database
is to locate the specific page requested by visitors. The static
HTML file contains flash video that makes the size of the file
large and a lot of people might access this website simultaneously,
so I want the application server to compress the page for
transmitting it to the visitors when they request a certain page.
Thirdly, based on these information above, I hope CF8 can
1) easily generate static HTML files.
2) allow high concurrent visiting in the Internet
environment.
3) compress HTML pages to visitors.
Can CF8 do all the work?
I also have some basic questions about CF8,
1. Is Dreamweaver8 the common editor for CF8?
2. Does CF8 contain JRun?
3. Is the application written by CF8 easy to deploy in JRun?
I mean if I have to thoroughly master JRun to do this?

It is a good CF editor. However, it busies itself with many
things besides editing. Other commonly used editors are Homesite
and CFEclipse. I would strongly recommend CFEclipse.
Does CF8 contain JRun?
Yes.
Is the application written by CF8 easy to deploy in JRun?
Yes. That happens automatically behind the scenes. You don't
have to intervene.
I mean if I have to thoroughly master JRun to do this?
No. You need no knowledge of Jrun to use CF8.

How can I save previews for old projects, while burning the project to DVD?

I'll admit, I haven't read the user manual cover to cover (or screen to screen for the electronic version), and haven't spent hours combing the discussions here, but I have searched for all the relevant keywords I can think of and can't find a concise answer to this question.
I get the basic idea of Vaults (I think), but haven't found much info about long term storage of projects. I'm fulltime freelance, but not super busy, and I can easily generate 100,000 images each year. I don't have the cash to be keeping all of these images in Aperture projects on external hard drives for eternity, and I'd be surprised if anyone else does. Good thing I'm not a medium format digital shooter producing 50GB each day huh?
I remember seeing a clip of a photographer 2 or 3 years ago discussing the differences between storing digital and film images. He was making the point that throwing away files you don't think you'll need again can be a mistake, citing a shot he had of Clinton and Lewinsky together, before Clinton and Lewinsky were news. "If I'd been shooting digital, that image wouldn't exist today". It was a great pic, and when that whoel scandal erupted, it made him alot of money.
So at present I'm storing every image I take in finished projects on DVD trusting that in the future I'll be looking for a shot of someone I may have shot 5, 10, 15 years ago.
I caught part of a discussion that talked about keeping the preview files for all the images (and subsequent versions) for each project. I'd love to be able to keep lo-res previews/copies of everything I've shot to date, and have them immediately accessible on my hard drive, while my full size projects are safely stored on DVD, taking up space on a bookshelf rather than on my hard drive. Loading 10 DVD's worth of projects to see what's inside them is a headache I'd like to avoid if possible, in favour of instantly checking out lo-res previews to look a shot up.
Is there an easy way to burn a completed project to DVD, but keep only the (lo res, lo size) previews on my hard drive?

maybe,...
1. you might think of making DVD backups first prior to importing the photos into Aperture. "Store Files: In their current location" once in Aperture make low rez Previews, and export finished Project.
or,
2. bring in the photographs to hard drive first prior to importing the photos into Aperture. "Store Files: In their current location" once in Aperture make low rez Previews, and export finished Project.
the low rez Previews will stay in Aperture but the high quality Versions will be exported onto DVDs and gone from the hard drive (if you delete the originals).
another way would be to export small about 50-70 pixel wide high quality jpegs to a folder on your Desktop and import & keep these in Aperture Library as a reference. make metadata to show where the original Project DVDs are stored and DVD filing system used.

when we create any desktop application using swing. Can we create installer for that application that will include all the files, which is required to run that application including data base. Data base is Mysql and in some case it might be MS Access.
We can create the jar files for this and deploy. But other then this ...

Best device to fit for a project

I'm not sure this is the right section but I try.
For a project (less than 100 branch offices and 2 Headquarters connected in an hub&spoke topology with IPSEC over MPLS among branch and HQ) I’m looking for the best device which cover the following items:
Branch:
Single device
At least two Ethernet interfaces (WAN/LAN)
Ipsec supporting 10-50-100 Mbs
Routing protocols such as BGP-OSPF
NAT
Redundant power supply (some site not but in principle I need it)
HeadQuarter:
Single device with XE intf
At least two Ethernet interfaces (WAN/LAN)
IPSEC supporting up to 7-10 Gbs of IPSEC (the sum of branches)
Routing protocols such as BGP-OSPF
NAT
Redundant power supply
Firewall is not needed, MPLS will be runned by two carrier (this is why single device, there will be two single devices (with hsrp/vrrp) per site each one connected to one MPLS carrier), IPSECs tunnels are on-top of MPLS.
I’m looking for the best solution in terms of scalability and price (very important).
I've an idea in my mind but I'd like to share your experience for the decision...

I guess for MPLS you would use GETVPN, so ASA couldn't be an option.
For 10M, I would suggest Cisco 892 or 1921.
Up to 50M - 1941 could be fine (for asymmetrical flow), and 2921 for symmetrical;
Up to 100M - 2921/2951(for asymmetrical) and 3925 for symmetrical.
Not sure what to sugegst for HQ, but it should be anything like ASR1000-ESP20 (sure you need 2 devices for HA).
PS: why do you need NAT on MPLS?
PS2: in HQ I would suggest to split IPSec and NAT roles between different devices (ASA would be best for NAT).

I think they are all still there. You just have to dig around
to see them all as the page is sorta funky (my opinion). You have
to click the links at the top to view the skin categories of Basic
(where we see 13 skins listed) Holiday (where 3 are listed) and
Graphical (where 47 are listed). So assuming that all are unique
and not repeated across categories, I would count 63 skins.
BTW, why does the page you linked to stop with only verbiage?
I'm not seeing skins listed there.

Soundtrack Pro is mainly an audio for video tool. I would mess with Garage Band or Logic Express, both applications geared for music work. If you're not a musician at all, there are several applications out there which allow you to string loops together easily to create a music bed for corporate style videos. I'm not sure what they're called, but I know they exist. Do a google search for music creation application loops or something like that.

How to display Issues for the projects which user can view in the Project Center View

In the project center view, at the bottom, we need to add one table, which can show the Issues for the projects that are displayed in the project center view.(Projects visible to the current user).
Example: A resource 1 can see the Projects Project 1, Project 2,Project 3 in the project center view. So resource 1 should be able to see all the issues that are entered against the Project 1, Project 2, Project 3, irrespective of the issue that has
been assigned to any resource.

Hi,
You could simply edit the page and add the risks and issues webparts. This will display risks and issues assigned to the user.
Click on edit page, then add webpart. In the Project We App section, pick up the risk webpart and then the issue webpart. Finally drag them to the bottom of the page and close the page.

Is Captivate right for this project?

I am quite familiar with PS, AI, DW, etc., but learned about Captivate today while doing research on presentation authoring software for an upcoming project at work.
I am hoping someone here can tell me whether or not Captivate is a good fit for the project.
We are re-doing a training program. It is a very simple software training program. It is a CD-ROM or DVD-ROM. It has an auto-start/run feature so that it starts up and opens to the main menu upon insertion into a computer. There is a dvd-like menu so that the student can skip around to different sections on the disc. Once a selection is made, a QuickTime video (we don't insist on using QuickTime, in fact some of our students have trouble installing it on their cpu's) plays. The video is surrounded by a frame that includes playback controls (fast-forward, rewind, pause, etc), the company logo, the currenly playing section number and disc, and Menu, Previous, and Next buttons. The videos in the past have been nothing but screen captures with voice overs, but we would like to incorporate PowerPoint-ish slides into the videos if it can be done without having to pay someone to edit the video, as that's not in the budget for this product.
The contractor that did the last one for us is a great trainer, but produced a lower-quality product than we like. I suspect he used a free or very cheap program.
Your thoughts? Does this seems like a project for Captivate?

It sounds like this can be achieved in Captivate. Can I ask which version of Captivate you are using?
Captivate allows you to insert FLV videos (or AVI) so you could definetly do the video part without too much trouble. The menu can also be developed in Captivate and it's also possible to publish the entire project to a CD/DVD.
You wouldn't be able to add Powerpoint slides into the videos by using Captivate so you would need to find some form of videoediting program instead.

Depreciation Expense For Related Project Assets

How can I post depreciation expense from Oracle Asset to Oracle Project Costing for assets that working and assigned to Projects like equipments and Cars that assigned to project..... and we want to post their deprecation expense as burden in oracle project costing ????
++Please find the below my search conclusion in past few days.++
1- Oracle Say that "There is currently no interface between Oracle Assets and Oracle Projects which allows you to post depreciation expenses directly to projects."
2- I have non-complete idea: I have a project Segment in AFF so I can Post depreciation expense for related project assets to GL directly, with Project segment value and create Expenditure Batch in Oracle costing to manually enter depreciation expense as lump-sum in Oracle costing but it is not preferred to create Entries in Subledger Accounting and not send it to GL so my question in this work-around, Can I Create Expenditure Batch and only create Distributions 'PRC: Distribute Labor Costs' ???
And don't create rest steps "PRC: Generate Cost Accounting Events,PRC: Create Accounting, PRC: Transfer Journal Entries to GL"
Please suggest best solution or help me in my work-around, its urgent

Please Consider the below focal points:
1- Regarding Oracle Assets business Cycles. Oracle Assets send depreciation expense to GL directly and there is no any impact in Oracle Project Costing about Depreciation expense(for Project related assets )

Real Project cost = Project Cost 10000 + Depreciation Expense for the 5 equipment 1000 = 11000 $
I want to show Real Project cost in Costing Module so I have to record Assets Depreciation Expense for the Project related assets in Oracle Project Costing .... Can you use SQL as a data source for a project in the same way you can in Excel?

Excel allows you to create a data source that executes a SQL stored procedure, display that data as a table in a spreadsheet and have that data automatically refresh each time you open the spreadsheet. Is it possible to do the same thing in MS Project, displaying
the data from the stored procedure as a series of tasks?
Here's what I'm trying to do - I have a stored procedure that pulls task data meeting a specific criteria from all projects in Project Server. We're currently displaying this data as an Excel report. However, the data includes start dates and durations so
it would be nice to be able to display it as a Gantt Chart. I've played around with creating a Gantt chart in Excel and have been able to do a very basic one, but it doesn’t quite fit our needs.

No, You can not use sql as a data source for a project.
You have 3 options to achieve it:
1. You can create a Sharepoint list with desired column ,fill desired data in that list then you can create a MS project from Sharepoint List.
2. You can create a SSRS report in which you can display grantt chart Joe has given you that link.
3. You can write a macro in MPP which will take data from your excel. In excel you will fetch data from your stored procedure. write a schedule which will run every day to update your data or
create an excel report in which will update automatically and write macro in mpp which will fetch the data then publish it so that it would be available to team members.

As far as I tested it, it is not possible either with PS2010. The URL only contains the PDP name and the projUID.

Can you spot any glitches in this workflow for my projects

I have been going back and forth on this topic of what format to use for my projects and have proposed various solutions which have not worked out because of some issue I overlooked. After much thought and a lot of reading, I came up with this one: I want to produce dvds for computer viewing only, using FCP HD and DVDSP 3. I'm using graphic sources ONLY, created in Motion 2 and Photoshop CS2 with music files created in Logic Pro 7, no footage. I plan to use the DVPro HD 720p 24 for the format in FCP and Motion. Since I am not using captured footage in the projects, I thought I could use just the portion of the area of the 720p screen that I would need for DVD output, which is 720 x 480, by marking it off with guides. All of the graphics from Photoshop and Motion would be brought in at the regular 720p dimensions but the content would be only in the same 720 x 480 area of the screen. When the project is done I would export it as a Quicktime movie at full size and bring it into Compressor 2. I would then use the setting for preparing it for DVDSP but I would crop the size to just that same 720 x 480 area where I limited my content. My hope is that because the dimensions are those for NTSC DV, that my pixel aspect ratio will remain square and not getsquished, and with progressive scanning it will look fine on a computer screen. Does this plan sound like it will accomplish the result I'm looking for?

The lumina shifts out of the wipes are a result of the H.264 encoding...it isn't on the original footage. I can't figure that one out...I tried exporting out of FCP, converting with QT AND Compressor and got the same result. Scratching my head there...
The 3-way CC was good in many cases, but when it came to the marsh grasses, it had some difficulty. Mainly in separating the blues and greens, and getting rid of the general haze of the shot. MB and CF were able to dig out the colors, but yes, Magic Bullet had more...vivid sepiad colors. That is a result of using the Color Reversal template and futzing with it, and my inexperience with MB. Color Finesse was much more familiar to me, and I was able to get STUNNING results. This is why I chose that shot for CC, because it appeared to need the most work.
I was able to get better results with the 3-way with other footage. Most of the other footage was shot with a distinct blue tint to it, but that is easily fixable.
I don't fault my DP too much. I asked for test footage to play with, and he did a days work, on his own time, for me to work on. The other stuff I was previously working on was for a project I am just wrapping up, and the footage was not allowed to be posted.
All in all I feel this footage has a very cinematic feel. It is easy to work with at full resolution, doesn't take up all that much space and very very pretty to look at. The big issue that will arise is the fact that the 23.98 timeline offers ONLY NDF timecode...not DF. I have to deliver a 59.94 d5 at 10-bit uncompressed, and that allows for DF, but my timing will have to be adjusted. Just how it will is something I will be exploring as the projects plods on.

In earlier versions of PWA a URL for a project could include information on the particular view used. This was very handy for emailing people since when they clicked the URL they would see only the particular tasks in that view. In PWA for Project 2013
the URL contains the info for the project file only and does not include the view or filter or anything else.

As far as I can see, this is not possible anymore, since the view's list in the PDP (for example schedule PDP) is affecting only the webpart and not the entire webpage, meaning that the URL is not connected anymore to the view and vice-versa.
Indeed this could be annoying..

Since this is a school project I recommend you do the work yourself. You will not learn asking others to do it for you. In addition, folks here will not do your homework for you. We are however more than wiling to answer specific questions for you. Post what you have done or tried and ask specific questions. I am confident you will get assistance.
And to answer your question, yes LabVIEW can be used to implement a scheduling program.
