Can chapter markers be attached to clips?

I have an hour-long project that I've put plenty of chapter markers into, but now I see how I could improve it by adding a bit more video footage to a certain place early on in the timeline.
Of course, adding more video to the timeline is going to push all subsequent clips downstream, and all those downstream chapter markers are going to end up out of place.
Isn't there some way to lock chapter markers to clips so that the markers will stay with the clips, and move along with them?
Tom

Sorry Tom ... I think I may have misrepresented the solution I was offering. "Nesting" will not actually move the sequences chapter markers into the clip itself, but rather the idea is to use the sequence (with contained chapter markers) as a virtual clip item. Unfortunately I didn't test my supposed solution before suggesting it and, just as you discovered, it won't work quite as simply as I described ... but it will work tho if you're willing to wrangle things a little.
Create a new sequence and open it in the timeline. You'll want to double check the new sequence's settings and make sure they match the original sequence, if not then now would be a good time to change them accordingly. Next, from the Browser window, drag and drop your original sequence down into the new empty sequence in your timeline. What you should get is a single "clip" representation of your original sequence ... and hopefully you will clearly be able to see those chapter markers as attached to this virtual clip (nested sequence).
Give it a try and let me know if it works for you
Cheers

Problem: Encore chapter markers which move with clip
    CS4 Production Suite
    XP Pro SP3
I have 9 sequences with each containing 4 Encore chapter markers. As expected in the real world, the end users continually want edits to the sequences. If I razor out a piece of a clip in the sequence, the Encore chapter markers stay fixed to the time ruler and do not move with the clip. As a result, one has to manually move each Encore chapter marker to re-align with the proper location on a clip. This is time consuming and makes no sense. Is there anyway for the Encore chapter markers to act like clip markers so they move with edits?
If not, does someone have a plugin which would look at the Encore chapter markers in a sequence and place corresponding clip markers on Video 1. After editing, the plugin could re-align the Encore chapter markers with their respective clip markers.

What is needed are Encore Chapter Clip Markers so Encore markers follow the clip. Just as you would move the current-time indicator to the frame where you want an Encore chapter point and then right click (Windows) in the time ruler and choose the type of marker, a new context menu item "Encore Chapter Clip Marker" would be available which would place an Encore chapter marker on the clip in the currently selected video track. With this, one could edit the sequence and know the Encore chapter point is still at the same frame of the clip.
I encourage others to either copy this feature description or their own version and submit it to the Feature Request Page for Premiere.
    Feature Request Page
    http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform
One should submit this Feature to both Premiere and Encore since both are effected. By the way, Encore has a Feature Request user form you may also want to submit this to. Premiere does not appear to have a Feature Request user form so I used the Feature Request Page mentioned above.

  • Auto Chapter Markers at each new clip

I have hundreds of video clips that I am going to be putting into a number of different FCP projects.
They don't need much editing, but some do need a bit. However, they all need a chapter marker at the very beginning (i.e. before clip 1) and further chapter marks between each clip. Obviously the end of the last clip doesn't need a mark. I am hoping there is a way to get FCP to do this very quickly?
    Regards

Basically there are about 25 "events", with there respective video files in folders on an external. I am going to import each folder into its own sequence in FCP, add all the clips to the timeline, make any adjustments, add chapter marks between each clip and export the file. I don't mind when I add the chapter marks, be it when adding to the timeline or when editing or exporting etc. There is only one event with more than 100 clips (208). The final files won't be that long, and I will add each file into DVDSP and make each one a track with individual chapters. So if the limit is 99 chapters per track, it doesn't really matter except for the one event, which I don't mind splitting up.
The piece in bold is what I am wondering about now, and I would like it to be as automatic as possible. The rest is just background info.

  • How do I get chapter markers defined in a compound clip to show up in the DVD menu?

I have created a timeline to burn a DVD/Blu-Ray. The timeline contains 3 compound clips. Each compound clip contains roughly 25 chapter markers.
When I open the Share > DVD dialog, it shows the Chapter button in the preview, but the DVD itself doesn't have the chapter markers.
Expected Result: When I define Chapter markers in a compound clip, they should show up on a DVD burned from a timeline that used the compound clip.
Actual Result: The DVD does not contain the chapters button, nor do the chapter skip buttons do anything. It's as if the chapters were never defined.
Workaround: Redefine all the chapter markers in the new timeline over the compound clips - Annoying!
Is there a simple way to get FCPX to recognize the chapter markers defined in the compound clip when I burn the project? It would save me quite a bit of time!!
    Thanks, all, for your help!

Thanks for the tip. I was looking for this feature, but it was not included in the context menu. It can be found in the "Clip" menu.
I think the best workflow for me would be this:
    Edit in a master timeline
Select the entire master time line, send to compound clip.
Create a new project, add the compount clip
Add the chapter markers to the new project
Select everything in the new project, create a second compound clip. This makes the chapter markers portable.
Open up the "burn" project, insert the second compount clip.
Select the newly inserted compound clip, and select "Break Apart Clip" from the "Clip" menuThe result is a managable compound clip with chapter markers.
Thanks for taking the time to answer my question!

  • Can encore chapter markers auto shift after ripple delete?

I need to break up a 4 hours sequence into two shorter ones to make 2 dvds. However I've already marked all the chapters. I duplicate this long sequence and ripple delete the first half to make the 2nd dvd sequence. However the encore chapter markers didn't move with the ripple delete. Is there a way to attach these markers to certain location of the video clips so I don't have to move them when I change the length of the sequence?
    using premiere and encore cs4

One work-around I can think of is to put a bunch of minute-long dummy video clips on a track and position them on the desired chapter point. These clips would shift along with ripple delete, and I can move the chapter points to line up with these dummy clips quickly.
For the current project I don't plan to ripple delete or change the length anymore, so I manually re-position the chapter points this time, for the last time I hope.
I did switch to dynamic link -- seems to be the only way to get the chapter points into encore, and I'll admit it's an improvement over cs3 where I export an avi file and import that into encore.

  • How to add chapter markers to every clip in a timeline?

Is it possible to add chapter markers to every clip in a timeline without going 1 by 1?  I have over 1,000 clips in the timeline and I need to add a chapter marker for every clip.

I'm not sure if this will help you or not. I've been using Compound clips, and I wanted chapter markers at the start of each compound clip, with the text in the marker set to the name of the compound clip.
I developed a keystroke workflow to do this, then used an application called "Keyboard Maestro" to record the keystrokes and reply them each time I press a hotkey. I had to add some timing delays, but once I did, it works great. All I have to do is press the hotkey, and it moves to the start of the next clip and adds the chapter marker. I even created another keystroke that does this 10 times in a row, so I only had to press it once for each 10 clips (because of timing issues, you can't just press the hotkey 10 times quickly).
If you're interested in more details, I can supply them, but I won't bother unless this sounds like something that might help you.

  • Clip markers to chapter markers

    Hi all.
Is there a way to take clip "chapter" markers and turn them into timeline chapter markers?
    Thanks.

    Jeremy,
Assuming you are talking about replicating markers from clips to timeline (or vice versa), and you've made a lot of markers, here's a tip:
If you are transferring markers from clips to timeline, highlight marked clips by selecting them in the timeline. When the marked clips are highlighted, pressing (shift)(up arrow) and (shift)(down arrow) jumps to next and previous markers, respectively. This will position the playhead to mark the timeline - however, you will have to de-select the clip in order to set the timeline mark. You can then press (shift)(cmd)(A) to "deselect everything," followed by pressing (M) to mark the timeline.
It's a bit awkward, but you could do this with the following keystroke sequence:
+(Make the Timeline the active window (cmd)(3) and place the playhead to the left of the first marker to transfer.)+
    1) (cmd)(A) selects all clips in the timeline
    2) (shift)(M) jumps to the next marker in the selected clips
    3) (shift)(cmd)(A) deselects all clips in the timeline
    4) (M) marks the timeline at the position of the current clips marker
    Repeat steps 1 to 4.
Going the other direction (copying timeline marks to clips - important if you've accidentally marked up the timeline and realize that when you start ripple deleting clips that your down-stream marks will all go out of sync) is much easier and faster:
+(Make the Timeline the active window (cmd)(3) and place the playhead to the left of the first marker to transfer.)+
    1) Highlight the clips to be marked.
    2) Press (shift)(M) - this jumps to the next mark whether it is in a clip or the timeline.
    3) Press (M) to mark the timeline.
By alternately pressing (shift)(M) and (M) (steps 2 and 3), you can rapidly copy timeline markers to highlighted clips.
By default, markers placed in the timeline are NOT "chapter" markers. To set them as chapter markers, press "M" twice - once to set the marker, and a second time to open the Edit Marker dialog. In this dialog, you can add Chapter, Compression and Scoring Marker attributes to markers. You can also change existing markers (by pressing "M" once while the playhead is parked exactly on a marker using methods mentioned above).

  • Exporting "Selected Clips" and iDVD Chapter Markers from iMovie

I've tried exporting "selected clips" from iMovie . The iDVD Chapter Markers do not appear as a menu option on the initial iDVD menu screen when "selected clips" is checked in the iMovie Share option. The chapter markers are limited to the clips I'm exporting. The "Share" dialog box seems to indicate that Chapter Markers should export but they don't. // I'm trying to break up a movie that's too long for a DVD (but I will later share to video from iMovie). I'd prefer not to make two iMovie projects out of this. Thanks!

    Hello, John,
    Welcome to the discussions.
You can either do your 'share to video from iMovie' before or after creating your iDVDs. But, you will need to create a second iMovie if yours is too long for one DVD and you are wanting to make 2 DVDs from the one long movie.
To make the second one before sharing the entire movie:
Select the clips you want in the second movie, then go to 'Edit' and 'Copy'.
Then, select 'New' iMovie. When it opens, give it a name like "Part2" and then 'Paste' your selected clips. Save the movie, then go back to the first one. Delete the clips you just copied.
Close iMovie. Open your DVD project. Find the 'Media' tab, go to 'Movies' and drag and drop your first movie into iDVD. Finish the iDVD project. Save and close.
Then, create the second iDVD project for your second movie in the same way.
Do 'save as disk image' for each iDVD project. That way your project is intact for each one, and you will not lose anything when you change the iMovies. You can burn your DVDs from the disk images.
Now, go back to your second iMovie. Select the clips and copy. Close that movie and open the first one. Paste the second set of clips. Now you have your original movie back and can do your share to video from it. Delete the second movie.

  • How can I create chapter markers that iTunes will recognize?

I recently purchased several audiobooks from Barnes and Noble which are encoded as MP3s with chapter markers inserted into the metadata in a proprietary format. I am trying to convert them to appear properly in iTunes.
It appears that I could import them into a GarageBand podcast project, and create markers by hand there, but that is very slow and impractical for dozens of hours of audiobooks.
I would like to simply edit the metadata associated with the file so that iTunes will recognize them.
Here is an example MP3 audiobook file with proprietary chapter metadata:

The approver can picked using the User Exit M06B0001 (EXIT_SAPLEBNF_001), here you have to write a logic to pick the Approver.
The approval workitem comes to SAP Inbox, once the approver click the workitem it will open the Transaction, there the user can approve.
And for BUS2009 issue , discuss with Functional Consultant check configuration done separately  for Purchase requisition item.

  • Can I recompress without losing Chapter markers?

    Hi all,
I have a couple of QT movies (m4v) that I exported from FCP using compressor that have chapter markers which show up great in QT. I want to make the movies smaller still (they are about 800MB at the moment, I really need less than 500MB) but if I try and select the compressor options (QVGA) that will get the movie that small, I seem to lose the chapter markers. I'm thinking maybe I can use the chapter markered QT file as the source and just compress that but Compressor does not seem to import the Chapter markers from the QT file it created!!
    Any ideas? Many thanks
