Can Compressor 3 read reference movies?

I know this has not been possible in earlier version of Compressor, so just wishful thinking that it could handle this. Out of our recording setup we've got one reference movie and then the actual media files (1 dv video stream, 2 .aif audio streams), and we're trying to lose the extra step of exporting a self-contained .mov file from QT. Basically i'm trying to save having to generate an Applescript or some sort of automated tool to do this. thx

uh, I know this is going to sound REALLY obvious, but are you doing this on the same machine you edited the original footage on?
If not, that's probably the issue. We export out of FCP and drop it into Compresspr on the same machine, so the paths are all still correct.
if you're doing the same, then yeah, I'd try reinstalling, or reseting the compressor engine.

Can not play linked/reference Movies on ATV!?

I have a problem to copy referense/linked Movies to ATV.
I have some Movies in my movies directory on iTunes which are not placed for real in the iTunes library there are on external HDs (more storage on 3,5 Zoll HDs) and just linked (creataet with a function in QuickTime).
I can watch this movies without any problems on my mac in iTunes.
Is it general impossible to watch linked/referens movie on AppleTV or did i same thing wrong?

mmh in iTunes on my Mac QT ref files working verry well on not local volumes.
I thought you said they were on an external drive.
I think you'll probably find the same thing with itunes sharing across a LAN, although I do recall there is a way to reference movies in the way you want, but I can't remember it being in QT after v4.
I'd take a visit to the QT forum and explain what you want to do there, they may be able to help.

Export Reference Movie takes forever!

XDCAM EX project that is only 17 minutes long is taking 3 hrs to export a reference movie. Why? I've rendered everything in the sequence but it still seems like it needs to re-render everything in order to export a simple reference movie and sometimes it crashes during export and I get nothing after waiting for three hrs...

You can't export a "reference" movie in a different codec Eli, that will trigger a full re-render to a self contained movie. As Tom has pointed out the renders in your "rendered" timeline previously only contained that footage which FCP needed to render for full quality playback, but due to the nature of XDCAM HD/EX's MPEG2 codec, even that footage which can be played back without render needs to be rendered for export, even as a reference movie. The only way round this is to set your Sequence menu > Render options to also render "Full". Then, if and when your sequence is fully rendered, the reference movie export will be fast.

Losing reference movies when trying to batch in Compressor

Hi -
I am making a number of time code window burns of interviews I shot for a project. The project was shot in AVC-Intra 100 1080p30. I have exported all movies as reference QT movies, not self-contained. When I drag multiple movies into compressor to batch, compressor hangs up and the reference movies become corrupted.
I have done this exact drill before with another project with no problems.

You need a CONVERTER, not ADAPTER The setup:

Can I use Remote app on iPad to control RENTED (read Rented) movies on Apple TV?

I use the Remote App on my iPad to control movies on my Apple TV, but those are movies that I own and are resident on my home network.
What about controlling a rented movie that is aquired through iTunes Store? I would like to be able to control rented content just the same.
Please advise?

Ok, thanks, now I see the very inconspicuous little "control pad" icon in bottom right corner of Remote App. How the **** is a guy supposed know what that means? Why not just put a button labled with "Control Pad" or something on it?
Thanks just the same. Now that I know that, it works really slick. I can start/stop/pause rented movies and use my iPad as remote touch pad to navigate anywhere on the Apple TV menu. Nice.

How can I sync movies to my iPod Touch when I get a message saying the movies can not be read or written? I just bought the movies yesterdayfrom iTunes with no problem.

I purchased four movies from iTunes yesterday and want to sync them to my daughter's new iPod Touch. I have been able to sync apps, music, contacts, etc. but keep getting a message stating the movies can not be read or written. I was able to sync one movie, a digital copy that I used the code to copy from iTunes earlier today without a problem. Can anyone help?

How can I name a button/movie so that an external script can read it?

I have a javascript on my website that is called on any click. The script reads the name of the clicked item. This works fine for all jpg/gif images with a name, but how can I name a flash movie in such a way that this script can read it? I tried several things, the name (and id) in the published parameters, the name of the instance, of the button, etc. But nothing works?

You should look into using the ExternalInterface class to have Flash talk to javascript in the web page that contains it. Here's a link that provides some information on that...

You can also turn off automatic uploading, and upload just the movies and trailers you want, or delete individual movies and trailers from iCloud. If you sign out of your iCloud account on your Mac, all iCloud movies disappear from the Theater, but they are not deleted; the movies reappear when you sign in again. Can't QuickLook FCP 7 Reference Movies, AVIs, WMVs

Greetings!
So. Before Mavericks, one could QuickLook at a FCP 7 reference movie. That functionality is now gone, as is the ability to QuickLook at an .AVI (sent to me by my client from time-to-time), and Windows Media (WMV) files (requested by my clients from time-to-time). Self-contained MOV files work OK.
Also: Quicktime used to open FCP 7 reference movies. This is no longer true.
Anyone there at Apple have any idea if you're working on a fix for this?

We typically use reference movies from FCP (so we don't have a ton of big self-contained files laying around), then compress them using other apps (MPEG Streamclip mainly, because it does such a great job). The source files of the FCP project (the source clips, that is) are varied: ProRes 422, XDCAM, H.264, etc. Those files play OK in QuickLook (and QuickTime), but the reference movies that refer to those files now do not play in QuickLook (or QT).
It's odd to me that all-of-a-sudden the FCP reference movie is not supported by QuickLook (or the current version of QuickTime). The WMV and AVI "legacy" codec thing I get, but the idea that a reference movie is a "codec" to be left behind is confusing to me.

I just spent over 5 hours in computer share with AVG. They said your server messed up my email account. I can get to my email account, but the line that reads "delete, move, not spam, more" never loads...therefore, I cannot delete email or anything else. My email account is at verizon yahoo. I need access to my email for various reasons, one of them being I pay many bills online and my email account is where I get certification that the payment went through!! My email will work through IE, though. I do not want to utilize IE to see my email...I use Firefox for everything and it would be a pain in the butt to have to switch to IE to access my email. Not to mention, I loathe IE--it's like using WEBTV! It's soooooo slow.... [email address removed, please do not post sensitive information in a public forum] is my email...

When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
(1) Bypass Firefox's Cache
Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.
Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:
"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced
On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"
If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.
(2) Remove your Yahoo.com cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site, try either:
* right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
* Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
In the dialog that opens, you can remove the site's cookies individually.
Then try reloading the page. Any improvement?
In case one of your extensions is involved, could you test the page in Firefox's Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to deactivate extensions and some advanced features of Firefox. More info: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode]].
You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:
* "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
* Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
Not all add-ons are disabled: Flash and other plugins still run
After Firefox shuts down, a small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (''not'' Reset).

Final Cut can't read the Movie?

When I attempt to capture video using the DV converter option, it says it is capturing the clip. However, when I stop capture I immediately get a message saying "Final Cut Express could not read the movie you just captured."
I have dumped prefs, used FCE rescue etc. Can anyone help? I only wanted FCE to capture clips longer than iMovie's 2 gig limit.

My original material is an old VHS tape. It is going through a qualified DV converter (Pyro A/V Link). This setup works fine in iMovie HD but I'd like to be able to capture clips longer than the iMovie's 2 gig limit. It's really the only reason I bought FCE.
When I attempt to capture it says it is capturing but I see nothing but a black screen in the capture window. Also, the upper viewer says "preview disabled". Then, when I hit "exc" to stop, it tells me that FCE cannot read the format of the capture.
I just tried deleting all things FCE and reloading the software from the original disc but nothing has changed.

Can´t render/read mov. files

I just upgraded from cs4 to cs5 and I discovered that cs5 won´t let me render anything that has to do with the quicktime codec. I tried to render some h.265 mov files but seconds after I started the render I got a error message (error code: -1610153464), after that failed attemped to render a mov cs5 refuses to read any mov files in my project or and refused to import other mov files so that I had to restart the program. I get a message saying that the "MooV" file is probably damaged. I tried every mov. codec and a lot of mov. files I got, to exclude the chance that it has to do with one of my mov. files I used. CS4 has absolutely no problems reading the same files or rendering mov files. Rendering avis, tiff-sequences etc. in cs5 works fine.
I already tried to reinstall cs5, but still got the error message.
System is OS X 10.6.3 on an i7 iMac. (German Adobe Production Suite)
Any ideas?

Sometomes with a simple project it works. With complex project doesn't work. MP4 Out works.
I've got so many problem with CS5 under OS X10.63/4, that i think this ist still beta version.
Revers Crop in Photoshop, crash.
close Software, crash,
Works very slow in Indesign,
no gif export in AE CS5,

Mp4 files as reference movie only?

I have several mp4 files created out of a PPro sequence. It's impossible to use QTPro to either export (result is not playable / all white 8KB file), save as (both Self Contained & Reference movie options show to be 13 KB), edit (clipboard empty after copying segments) or export using MPEG Streamclip ( Error: Can't prepare file).
Inspector:
AVC Coding 1280x720
50fps
no audio
I'd like to further export & edit the file in QTPro

yes.... the timeline is completely rendered... and the files are located on my WD 500gig external Harddrive.
It appears to be a reference movie. The 14 gig file I have created and saved on the desktop will not play when the external drive is ejected from the computer.
I had a major FCP crash last week working on a project with the desk top G5. I was not able to get the program to reopen. I read here on the boards to trash the prefs. and that worked to get FCP to reopen.
This week I got a new macbook pro. I migrated from the g5 and it seesm waht ever problem I encountered on the G5 has migrated to the macbook. I am re-installing FCP fresh today to see if that solves the problem on the macbook.
This also seesm to have messed with the compresor program. I have several (10-13gig) one hour SD video files captured (raw) that I sent to compressor last week to export as QT7 download 300Kbps. Those files took a reasonable amount of time. NOw this week I try again and the same files are taking over 6 hours to compress.
I wonder if I have a larger overall computer issue here.
