Can Compressor convert my NTSC video to PAL?

I am trying to convert my NTSC footage to PAL. I was given a tip that the key is in the compressing stage and then use Studio Pro and burn a PAL DVD. Is this correct?
Thanks so much!!!! it really helps!!!

i saw you on the other forum.., you got fobbed off to this one.., actually you can 'convert' to PAL in both DVD Pro and Compressor..,
if you can use either at all you already know it.., do you know where the settings are in compressor.., (is your compressor working??).., an you load settings and assign a sourse and a destination.., if you ca do those things you can already 'convert.'
what ever, assuming compressor is working on your puter, open compressor and save a project name (give the project a name.) now in the
hit 'add file' (the icon, top left)
go to the settings/destination window (the window that covers the bottom left of your screen)
click the triangle that says 'apple'
click the triangle that says 'DVD best quality 120 minutes (if thats how long you want it.., as long as your movie is under this time your OK)'
drag that setting to the long strip in the window above (top right), check the sourse so you know where the file is going.
look in the inspector window and click the icon, second from the right, this is your encoding settings.
click, video format; change the setting to PAL.., check the frame rate has changed to 25fps
back at the window, top right, you will see 'submit.'.., hit that and it will send the job to the render window.., watch the magic
the same can be done from the inspector in DVD pro.
if this was too confusing, sorry, .., there must be some tuts somewhere.., try 'larry jordons' web site, or maybe 'peachpit.com'..??

  • How to convert my NTSC project to PAL?

Hi! I'd like know how i can convert my ntsc project into PAL.
I need finish a DVD for my client take to ANGOLA and there is PAL system. It is possible? My Encore is 2.0.
Or It is possible put my NTSC movie into PAL project and let encore transcode the movie? Thank you very much and sorry my english.

    You have several options.
1 - Create a new PAL project in Premiere Pro. Capture your footage in the usual manner, and as soon as it is in the project, hit the ENTER key to render it.
2 - Create an NTSC project in Premiere Pro, capture to NTSC DV footage, and export it out again.
    Close project.
Create new PAL project, import the NTSC clip & then interpret/conform the footage to the project settings.
3 - Set up an NTSC project, capture footage, export to PAL DV or MPEG-2 from Premiere.
4 - Use TMPGEnc Xpress 4 - it's standards conversion is very good.
5 - Use ProCoder, as Ruud suggests
6 - Use CCE SP if you have it.
I'd try as many different ways as you can, and view the lot to see what looks the best.

  • Convert Compact Camera NTSC Video to PAL DVD

    Hi All,
I am trying to take video footage from my compact Canon digital stills camera, which is 640 x 420, 30fps AVI, and make it useable for a PAL DVD. I use FCP for my editing and normally DVDSP for DVD creation. In FCP, as I normally edit in PAL, the footage from my camera looked jerky, presumably as the frame rates were mismatched. I discovered that the preset NTSC 48k seemed to match it perfectly - frame size and rate, no jerkiness or disortion of the image.
The workflow from then on is pretty straightforward if I want to creat a NTSC DVD, but I was wondering if I can do anything to make it play correctly on a PAL DVD?
I have tried changing the frame rate and size/ratio in FCP to that of PAL before output - jerky result.
I have exported as a full res QT movie using the current project settings in FCP, but then can't use a NTSC file in a PAL DVDSP project
I then exported as a full res QT movie using project settings in FCP, created a new iDVD project in PAL, added my QT export, converted it in the program (why can't DVDSP do this??) and burned it. But when played back in a DVD player, the jerkiness is back.
I have discovered a way in Compressor that does an ok job of converting it, but it takes ages to render out even a short piece.
Is there an easier, less time consuming way that gives good results?

    Hi,
First of all, almost all PAL DVD players have no problem playing NTSC DVD's so staying in NTSC would probably be ok.
Are you converting your media before importing into FCP, I don't know the format of the media your camera shoots but It won't be a format that works very well in FCP, you'll have problems.
If you really want to convert to PAL, Compressor will do that and someone familiar with the workflow may chip in. Good Luck.

  • Converting HD NTSC to HD PAL

    Hi!
I have a 5 minute video that was created in HD (1920X1080) and it is in NTSC (29.97fps) and I need to get it to the UK for their local use. Is there anyway that I can out put directly in FCP from NTSC to PAL or can I use Compressor to do it? If so how? If not what applications or process can I go about getting it converted?
    Thank you.
    Kelvin

your best bet is to take it to a facilities house that have dedicated standards conversion hardware
if you can't stretch to that then the Natress Standards Conversion plugins do an excellent job
if you have no budget at all then Compressor also does an excellent job if somewhat slowly
failing that then yes, you can export a PAL copy using Export > Quicktime Conversion (but it won't be particularly pretty)
i beleive the freeware JES Deinteracer also claims to do a good job of standards conversion ... i have no experience of using it for such, and do not know if it offers any advantage over the quicktime conversion method, but you may wish to try it

  • NTSC video into Pal

Have spent a while trying to solve this. Have just upgraded from Express to Pro. I have an edit of one of my Daughters Wedding, which was all Pal. My Brother who came over from Boston, Mass. Did some video in NTSC and there are a couple of bits, not a lot, that I would like to get into my project.
The video plays fine on my Sony HDR-HC1e and connects to the computer MacBook Pro into the back of one of my many hard drives, which always works fine with my video's.
I have tried all the NTSC parts in Easy Setup. Even bought a new lead with 800 FW. so that it will go directly into the computer. But when I go to Capture. The window says "Preview Disabled" but it can be controlled from the screen buttons, so to "Capture Now" the camera starts playing but the screen then flags up "This operation could not be completed as there is no video"
I'm sure that I have been through most things that can be stopping this. But hope that someone can see the problem. Then when I've got this into FCP. I hope that I can convert it to pal as seen in one of the Nattress Teaching video's.
Thank you for reading this and great thanks for any clues that help to sort this.
    David Wilson

Thank you Tom and Nick, for your help. At the moment the video from the NTSC reel, Is not looking as bad as I'd feared. It is not an HD project as at the time the video was done on my TRV900e.
Even though I could select it in the pal timeline and select Nest, there were no G standard conversion in the "effect folder" to find G converter V2.0 as I'd seen done on the Nattress Tutorial site. link here http://www.nattress.com/Movies/NTSC%20DV%20to%20PAL.mov I have three pal video camera's a TRV900e and two HDR-HC1e, but do not have access at the moment to an NTSC camera.
When you say Tom, to get my brother to capture it. How would this work and what would be the method for him to get it to me from the US to UK. Also thank you for pointing out that I am now on the FCP forum site.
    Regards
    David Wilson

  • How can I convert to NTSC color space?

I'm developing graphics for a Roku application which requires that colors be broadcast safe in the SDTV NTSC color space. For instance, I cannot have true white or true black colors. They are not allowed.
There is an RGB color space available. When I create a new document in CS6, I can select that profile as the color space. However, I am still able to paste in images that have pure white in them. When I save the document for web & devices, it still saves with the pure white.
I'm positive I've done this conversion in the past before, but I cannot get it working in CS6. I've tried going to Edit -> Assign Profile and Edit -> Convert to Profile, but in both cases the colors I am dealing with still end up pure white.
    How can this be done?

    Hi,
See if Filter>Video>NTSC Colors makes any difference.

  • Final Cut Pro X how do you convert HD NTSC to SD PAL DVD

    Aloha,
I have edited a video and wanting to export to PAL SD DVD.  The video was shoot in NTSC HD and edited in the same format.  When I select share / DVD I do not see the option to select export to PAL.  I always export to SD DVD's but they default to NTSC so I never gave it much though until today....
    Please advise and thanks!
    Frederick

    Aloha Tom,
Thanks for your feedback.  I will give it a try and see if the clients have any problems playing the DVD.  I have read a post that indicated PAL players can play NTSC DVD's, which is great!
I also wanted to be 100% sure that FCPX DOES NOT have the option to do this and you made it perfectly clear.
    Thank you,
    Frederick

IPOD will play m4v format videos from iTunes store.
    Are these HD videos?
You can download the SD version.
    See this -> http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4223
Syncing video to iPhone 3G or earlier, iPod touch (1st or 2nd generation), iPod classic, iPod 5th generation, or iPod nano (3rd, 4th, or 5th generation)
Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes installed on your computer. You can download the latest version for free here.
    Open iTunes on your computer.
From the Store menu, choose Store > Sign In, and then enter your Apple ID and password.
Navigate to your Purchased page. Find it by clicking Movies or TV Shows from the top navigation bar in the iTunes Store, and then click Purchased from "QUICK LINKS" in the iTunes Store.
Choose the appropriate video type: Movies or TV Shows.
In the lower-right corner of the screen, deselect the box next to "Download HD When Available."
Search for the desired video and click the download button.
This should download the standard definition version to your computer so you can sync to your device."

  • I can't convert a DVD video into my movie format?

I can't used my Quick Time Software with all futures, I want to convert from the CDRoom a DVD video to movie format into my computer, would you help with a good solution.
    Thanks

Are you referring to a commercial and hence copy-protected video DVD? If so, it's illegal in the US to attempt to break the copy protection, so we cannot help you with that question here.
If that's not what you mean, please post back and explain further. Feel free to post in your native language if you're more comfortable that way. There are people here who speak other languages and can probably help you more quickly.
    Regards.

  • Converting an NTSC DVD to PAL DVD

Does anybody have any idea how you'd go about changing
an NTSC DVD into a PAL DVD? It's not copyrighted, and
the conversion doesn't have to happen in DVDSP.
It can be done with Toast or other software.
I'd be interested in what you think is the easiest way?
    Thanks.

    Hi Brvideo
I had a similar query a couple of weeks ago.
    The link is here..
    http://discussions.info.apple.com/webx128@@.68ba3040
(Oct 02 2005). The advice from Houghts in this thread was bang on - it worked brilliantly.
Additionally as mentioned in the original query - the shareware mpeg2works is also supposed to be able to do this. I can't say one way or the other as I haven't used it but you'll see at the mpeg2works forum on their own website that in some cases it hasn't worked so well.
The QT DV/MpegStreamClip method certainly worked well for me and the quality was surprisingly good. Good Luck with it.

  • HT3775 how can i convert an AVI video file to work on my iMac?

I have just bought an imac and am trying to put my movies on to the mac from a microsoft machine. A lot of them are in AVI or MKV formats and I want to know if there is a converter I can download on my imac which will convert these files? Any help would be gratefully received.

If you just want to move these avi and mkv files to play on iMac, you can download VLC player, it plays just every file format.
    http://www.videolan.org
For converting files to Mac readable format, I use this one all the time:
    http://www.appgeeker.com/how-to/convert-avi-to-mp4-mac.html
It supports handling multiple files at a time. one of my cameras record in .AVI format and i bulk convert to .mp4 or h264.
