Can connect to two secure sites

I've done some reading on threads where people have trouble connecting to selected sites, but I don't think those solutions apply with this situation.
I went to a friends , mothers house, to help here with getting her new flat panel iMac on the web correctly and to get her PC laptop on the wireless router that her ISP provided. She had been talking to tech support for some time, and he finally got her partly working, but not everything worked as it should.
I got her PC and router working but I was stuck with her Mac situation. She has two sites she visits to pay bills. A bank and (as some of the threads also listed ) DirecTV.com. She can get to the sites, but once she tries to login and the address is https: ..... rather than http: the browser stalls. I tried FireFox as well. Same result. I reset Safari. No dice. I even created a new user account, to get a new set of user preferences. No change. Her PC can get to those pages just fine, using the same router, on the wireless side. I tried tossing a few of the security prefs and that didn't change things. I verified nothing was set in her firewall, and even turned it off.
Here is the kicker... while I was doing this, and she recounted what the tech support guy did, over the phone, as he remote controlled her machine, she mentioned that at one point, she could ONLY get to those two sites, and now they are the only two she can't get to. I suspect he may have been trying some settings, asked her for two sites she goes to, and she mentioned WaMu and DirecTV. Maybe he put them in some DNS screen or host file settings ? I doubt the guy would know how, but you never know. There must be a global setting that might control this. I know it's not the router, or a web browser issue.
Any suggestions ?

She is going to a secure website that needs a certificate. Its information is in Safari Help, search under security certificates.
Same with Firefox where setting are under Advanced>Encryption

  • Can't access some secure sites through proxy?

can't access some secure sites through proxy server on osx it just keeps going local authority couldn't be contacted, i had the same problem with parental controls, but now that is off and its still doing it, is there a setting or something i need to enable?

In my original post, not today's, I had said I was having the issues on the Mini, running OSX 10.6.8 and Safari v.5.1.5 for my bank's pill pay. I should have been more specific as to which machine and OSX Safari browser I'm having the T-Mobile problem with. My mistake.
It is on both the MacMini and now the Air too. A moment ago, I was able to log in to my.t-mobile.com on the Air, but after putting into my Bookmarks folder, I can't do it anymore. The Log in button comes up greyed out instead of green.
I'm also still having trouble with my bank's bill pay section on both computers too.
I wonder if it's related to the saving of the log in info or putting in the Bookmark Folder?

  • Unable to connect to any secure sites with any browser

I am unable to connect to any secure sites. I downloaded Firefox with the hopes that it would fix the problem but it did not. What ever browser I use I cant connect to any secure sites. All of the other pages load correctly.
I have a PC notebook that I tried to load the same sites it worked fine, so I know that it is not a connecting problem.
    emac Mac OS X (10.4.6)
    ibook   Mac OS X (10.2.x)

Are you connecting via dial up or high speed through a router? If that latter, check the firewall settings of the router. I have my router set to medium (high, medium, low, & none) and it works most of the time. But occationally I get to sites that won't load and setting the router (temporarily) to low usually allows me to access those sites. So perhaps this is your issue.
I think there are ways to add those sites to router security lists or "services" that will now let them through with the higher security settings, but I need it so rarely I haven't bothered to figure it out yet.

  • Can not communicate any with Server, BUT I CAN CONNECT SUCCESS FROM "MANAGE SITES"

  • Can only connect to HTTPS (secure) sites and can't connect to HTTP sites

In short I CAN ONLY connect to HTTPS sites, meaning secure.
I've narrowed this down to an issue regrading my mac book pro and the wireless router.
    Router:
    - not sure of the make model
    - other computers CAN connect to this router and go online
    My Mac:
    - Mac Book Pro
    - OS X 10.6
    - I can connect to other wireless networks just fine
    - I can surf the web for about 10 minutes or so then it blocks ALL http traffic
and i'm only allowed to https sites
going to a http site results in a "page is taking to long to respond"
    please anything?

The router is a Verizon MI424WR
hope that helps, but i doubt it will...
just to also clairfy http sites either go really slow then time out only never to come back, https are blazing fast

  • Reset Safari -- Now I Can No Longer Access Secure Sites Or iTunes Store.

Hi, A few days ago I reset Safari (I'm still not sure why... boredom??). Well, now I'm paying for it. Now I can't access secure sites (such as gmail, bank accounts, etc.). in Safari. When trying to access a secure site I get an error window that reads something along the lines of: "Safari can’t open the page because it couldn’t establish a secure connection to the server." Even more annoying, I can't access my account on iTunes or access the iTunes store. When trying to do so an error window pops up that reads: "iTunes could not connect to the iTunes store. The requested keychain was invalid. Open keychain access and run Keychain first aid, then try again."... Did all that. No help. Incidentally, all my keychains are now gone).
I tried accessing the secure sites through Firefox, which still works fine. But the iTunes problem persists no matter what.
Has anyone else been encountered these same problems or know what I need to do to fix them? Any advice would be appreciated. I'm stuck!
    Thanks in advance!

Still having this problem - is there no one out there who can help me? Surely someone must have had this happen before, no? You're all making me feel really stupid!!

  • FTP Connection for Two Local Sites Needed

v1 of my html5 pages successfully loaded onto the ISP server. The pages were done in a hurry without a lot of CSS thought. v2 corrects that but I'm unable to ftp to the server. I'm not clear why I can't just select which local site to connect with. Server connection from the first local site worked just fine, then, 30 seconds, later local site v2 can't find the connection.

I'm assuming you have two different site definitions set-up in DW.  One for Site1 and another for Site2.  Whichever one is giving you grief, try toggling passive FTP on/off. You'll find it under Servers > More Options.  See screenshot.

  • Help, I can't log onto secure sites

Every time I try to redeem a gift on the itunes site and often on e.bay, I get the following message "error:/system library/keychains/x509 anchors could not be found. without it many applications will be unable to establish secure network connections." I've tried keychain reset and keychain first aid to no avail. After trying keychain first aid the message says it was unable to perform first aid because "unable to restore/system/library/keychains/x509 anchors. you will need to manually copy it from another machine ( I also have an i.mac G5 with lots of X509 anchors when I click on it) or re install the system software. OSX 10.4.11. In keychain access when I click on X509 anchors nothing appears. Any help would be much appreciated as I need to redeem my son's birthday present!

You may have to try an 'Archive and Install' of OS X 10.4.x and then upgrade the new
system with the Combo 10.4.11 download; add the security updates & others if needed...
Be sure to repair disk permissions, between software updates and installs, and after them.
That will help the files and system parts work better together as you build-up the system.
And be sure, when you do the A&I, the checkbox selection to save your user name, etc
is chosen; then that information is saved and copied into the new system folder. After
a time, maybe a month or so, if you do not need anything else from the old 'previous'
system folder which would remain on the computer's hard disk drive, you could trash it.
If you have means of making off-computer file backups, that is recommended beforehand.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Using Https to connect to a secure site with J2ME

I have successfully been able to get a midlet using HTTPS connections to work using the J2ME wireless toolkit and following the instructions in this paper.
    http://developers.sun.com/techtopics/mobility/midp/articles/https/
I would like to get Https working on a real device now like the Moto RAZR or Samsung A900 etc. Was wondering if someone has experience with HTtps on devices and help answer my questions.
Would I have to use certificates issued by one of the following CAs like thawte, verisign etc and include it on the apache server and then the device would automatically install the certificate when a HTTPS connection is made to the server?
Can self signed certificates be used on the devices , if yes how can they be imported onto the device?
    Please help.
    Thanks!

    Certificates expire by time.
Open System Preferences > Date & Time then select the Date & Time tab.
Make sure:  Set date and time automatically is selected.
Now select the Time Zone tab. Select:  Set time zone automatically using current location
Now System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy
Make sure:  Enable Location Services   is selected.

  • I can't publish two different sites as separate

So, I created my FIRST site in iWeb and published it to my .MAC account. Everything is peachy. I created a SECOND site which I want to publish to a separate host (redshift.com) When I attempt to publish to a folder as iWeb tells you to do, it publishes BOTH sites instead of just the one I want.
    Any ideas?

iWeb stores all information about the sites that you create with it in a file called Domain.sites which is located on your hard drive in the following folder path.../Users/yourname/Library/Application Support/iWeb/...
If you create more than one site using the same Domain.sites file, then both sites will be published everytime you publish from iWeb. There is currently no way to independently publish two sites that are contained in the same Domain.sites file.
If you would like to publish sites independently, you will need to have a single site contained in a single Domain file...and then switch Domain files to correspond with the desired site to publish or edit. There are several utilities that people here have written to help you do just that...check out a program called "Domain Juggler" or "iWebSites".

  • Suddenly I can onlt access two websites.  The others say I am not connected.

Suddenly I can only access two web sites and no emails.  Is say that I am not connected but I know I am.

Did you install MacKeeper?  If you did, it may have damaged your ability to work properly, and only these directions will remove it:

  • I can't connect to a web site via the site's own WiFi.

This is a strange one. When I'm in the New York Public Library and connected to the internet via their WiFi I can connect to any web site EXCEPT the New York Public Library's! (www.nypl.org) It tries connecting then times out every time. I can connect to the NYPL's site when I'm not there from home or other WiFis public or private, and when there I can connect to it on my iPhone, but not from my computer with either Firefox or Safari. Other people with Macs can access the site from there and I went over my settings with one of them but could find no differences.
I'm using 10.5.7 and have the latest updates for Firefox and Safari and the latest updates for OSX. What's frustrating is that when I'm at the library doing research there are databases one can only access from there, not from outside, so it's a very odd situation. Using iPhone for such a reason is quite impractical, too so I'd appreciate any help anyone can offer. I'm sure it's a setting somewhere in my network prefs or something but I'm baffled as to what it might be - has anyone else ever run across something similar?
    Thank you!

I am hear at the New York Public Library now. I am connected to the internet on their WiFi but still cannot get to their site at the address http://www.nypl.org , it times out. I pinged them with this result:
    Ping has started ...
ping: cannot resolve http://www.nypl.org: Unknown host
I tried "lookup" with the following result:
