Can connect with Macs but not PCs - iChat 2.1 OSX 10.3.9

Hi, I am having problems connecting to PCs but can connect to other Macs fine. I have ploughed through as much of the correspondance on here as I can find but with no luck. Would I be right in assuming that if I can connect OK to another Mac (with .mac name or AIM name) my settings should be OK?
Cheers,
Mike

Hi Mike
Try me and see, defcom1 .mac account.
Has the PC side-up ok, see for set-up http://www.mvldesign.com/videoconferencetutorial.html#xp they must be using AIM5.9 and not AIM Triton

  • Changed to secure - can connect with mac but not pc running vista

I changed my wrt54gs from unsecured to secure by changing the wireless > wireless security > to security mode: WPA personal, the wpa algorithms is set to TKIP, i set up a password in the shared key area and the group key is set to 3600.  I saved the changes and now i can connect with the password with a macbook pro as well as with a ipod touch but i cant connect with a laptop running windows vista.  I would get an error saying unable to connect, funny thing is though  i am connect (and it is the correct router, not a neighbors) but it says connected with limited access. I tried to run diagnostics and repair but to no avail.  Any thoughts on what to door is limited access ok?
    thanks,
    Dave

    Try this :
Click Start >> Control Panel >> Network and Sharing Center >> Manage Wireless Networks, here remove all the networks present and close the Window...
Click on Connect to a Network and try to re-connect to your Network, it should ask for your Network Key/Password, enter the correct password/network key and click Connect...
It should connect...Once you are connected you should restart the computer, it should connect to Internet...

  • I can connect to MAC but not my PC

I have a new Nano, that connects to Mac but not my PC. When I try to connect to PC it says "iTunes as detected a Macintosh formatted iPod. You must restore this iPod before you can use it on Windows."
How can I get my Nano to work on both?
    Thanks!

Windows cannot read a Mac formatted disk.
You need to Restore on iTunes for Windows and it will then work on Mac & Windows.

  • I can connect with iPhone but not pad for FaceTime

It's odd, my sister just bought an iPad and it will connect to my iPhone for FaceTime but not my iPad. Why is that?

One thing to note, she is not using a @me email address but rather her regular email address for her Apple I.D.

can connect to appstore but not can't download songs or music albums in mp3.

Sorry, but music tracks and other media contact are not available in Israel via an iTunes Store at this time. None of us here can say when Apple will be able to obtain the necessary licenses and feel it worthwhile to set up an iTunes Store for your country.

  • Music stable with mac, but not mobile devices?

I recently got a new sound dock and got a brand new airport express with it so I can control the dock from anywhere in the house.
After setting up the airport using our Macbook Pro, I started streaming music perfectly fine from iTunes on the mac. To kind of show off the new toy to my wife, I started streaming music using my iphone 5. The music was cutting in and out like crazy. I changed to her iphone 4S and it continued to cut out like crazy. I even pulled out my oldschool ipod touch, and it continued to cut out.
So I am trying to figure out why there doesn't seem to be any issues whatsoever using the airport express from my mac, but all of my mobile devices have intermittent issues?
All devices have the most updated software that I can find.
The only thing I can think of is the connection to the network is weaker on the mobile devices than it might be on the macbook? They are all using Wi-Fi to my home network. So going by that,  the aiport/dock/macbook all seem to have it figured out perfectly so something is working.
Am I missing some setting that is causing network lag on the mobile devices but not the mac?

The single biggest mistake in your analysis is assuming that if Windows (or a Wii or an iPhone or whatever other device) can connect, your router is not to blame.
Though devices are designed to standards, there can be errors in implementing those standards or even simple software bugs that come into play.
The example I've used over and over again is say there is a bug where when the router is asked to add "2 + 3" it answers "5" but when asked to add "3 + 2" it answers "6."
If Windows only ever adds "2 + 3" but Mac OS X adds "3 + 2," it's not Apple's fault the router is incorrectly responding "6" in the later case.
But let's start with easier questions:
    1) Are you sure that no proxy is being used if one shouldn't be, and vice-versa?
    2) Are the DNS addresses shown in your TCP/IP settings the same regardless of whether you are connected via AirPort or Ethernet?
    3) Could there be some interference in the area you are using your Mac? Recall also that Mac and Windows PCs use different antenna designs, so what interferes with one may not affect the other.

  • Can connect to testers but not my mum!

    Hi,
I have been trying for some time to get iChat 2.1 to audio or video chat with my mum in the UK (I'm in Japan). We both have iSight, iChat AV 2.1, OS X 10.3.9. I have a PowerBook G4, my mum has an iMac G5. I am using an NEC router (all in Japanese, which I don't understand properly), my mum is using a BT Voyager 205ADSL. I am using an Airport Extreme, but have tried with or without it - same result.
The message we are getting is something like 'mum/Tom did not respond'.
We can both connect to the AIM testers 'tryichatav' and 'ichatavtesting' with video and audio but not to each other. I have gone through the port opening procedure that Ralph advised us in another column 'iChat audio', but at that time we thought the problem was at my mum's side.
Now I know that we can both connect to the testers, I have absolutely no idea what to do or where the problem lies.
Any ideas would be great. Would us both buying new routers solve the problem for sure? If so we will do this as we are tired of this headache, what would you recommend?
    Regards and thanks in advance.
    Tom

    Hi Ralph
I managed to connect with Tony last night through iChat AV using iSight, so can I assume that the problem isn't at my end now?
If so, it may be easiest (but not cheapest) for my mum to just buy a new router. If she bought the Netgear one mentioned above ought we not to have any more problems or is it just not as simple as that?
I enjoyed my first real use of iChat - it really does change a few things doesn't it...
It would be great for me and my parents as we hardly see each other, and iChat really does make meeting possible.
Many thanks to both Tony and Ralph for your help on this and other threads.
    Tom
PS: I have two machines. I had been alternating between two computers in trying to connect previously - both running the same software - and always got the same errors. Last week I upgraded one to 10.4.2/iChat AV 3 and tried that with Tony last night. I am still waiting to try my new configuratin with my mum... Just in case that changes anything...

  • I can connect to WiFi but not the internet

I am trying to connect a new IPad 2.  I have a Belkin router that is B+G+N.  I use WPA2 encryption and MAC filtering.  The IPAD's MAC address was entered into the router and when I provide the encryption key as the password I am able to connect to WiFi but not anything Internet related except for email.  When I type any URL in Safari it takes me to my router's management page.  In fact I can log into my router and manage it from my IPad but I can't connect to anything else.  I have 8 other computers/devices that connect to the router fine including two Apple Ipod touch's.  This has me baffled.

Look at iOS Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections  http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398

iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4199
    Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
Change the channel on your wireless router. Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

  • Published website on Macs but not PCs

    Hello,
I have published my personal website created with iWeb '08 to .Mac (http://web.mac.com/juliusliptak/JELK/Welcome.html). I can open this site on my iMac and MacBook, but not any PCs at work. When trying to open on a PC, I get the error message from Apple saying that this website address is not known.
How can I see my websites on Macs and not PCs? How do I fix this?
    Thanks,
    Julius

I'm dying to know this too.
A few friends can't access my iWeb/.Mac site through IE on PCs.
I've been getting them to download Mozilla Firefox as it apparently works perfectly on there.
Tbh I hate Microsoft with a passion and am pretty much free of it myself but shouldn't have to
try and cenvert every PC user single-handed.
There must be something we can do to fix this... I thought the sites were just HTML?

  • Ipad 2 can connect to WiFi but not internet ?

Brand new IPad 2 user:  I am setting up unit right out of box. Can connect with my Verizon FIOS Wifi with IPad and have strong signal.
Cannot now connect to the internet via Safari. Have tried several of the solutions offered in Apple manuals such as cleaning out network settings and starting over, but to no avail.
I have also gone to the Verozon support website for clues.
Any IPad2 users under Verizon out there?

  • Can IM with aol but not Ichat

Hi I had been using Ichat and my aol screen name with no problems but now I cannot login to Ichat, it says that my screen name/ password are incorrect. I still can login to aol and use their IM so the account is working. Help....Pedro
    powermac 6500, powerbook G3 400, 12" powerbook G4 1.5 ghz, 17" intel Imac   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

    Hi Pedro,
Are you using both applications at once and logging into AIM with both ?
In iChat 2 this can be done but you get a Text error message from AIM to say you are logged in twice if it is form different locations (but not if at the Same public IP/Location)
In iChat 3 You have to Allow Multiple Logins in the iChat > Preferences > Accounts section and Account Info tab. (I see at least one computer is at this OS if your profile is correct).
You can use KeyChain Access in Applications/Utilities to check the current password.
    Open Keychain Access.
    Select the Screen name.
    Tick the Show Password box.
Enter the Admin Password and Click the Allow Once button.
The Password will now be displayed at the bottom of the info screen.
If you alter the password here and close the window it will be saved (in Keychain). You will need to alter the password in the iChat Accounts preferences to save it there..
