Can CR 2008 with XML ODBC driver using SQL CASE statement?

Hi:
when i use SQL Command to provide data to the report from XML file connection. I can not use CASE statement , CR always has error message about "CASE" word.
I test the same Statement in SQL client connected to Oracle, it runs fine.
So.. Is it driver's limitation that XML datasource can not use CASE statement inside SQL command window?
Thanks anyone's reply in advance.
Johnnychi

Hi Johnny,
CR supports what every the ODBC driver supports. The error you are getting is from the XML driver, CR is just passing it through.
Try using an ODBC to XML driver and then a stand-alone ODBC test tool to see if your SQL works.
If not you'll have to find another way to use the CASE statement.
Thank you
Don

    Hi Leela,
    You cannot use the Case statement to read the radio buttons.
    nstead you will have to use Loop at Screen under At Selection Screen Output.

  • I/O timeout all the time on console - what can I do with my hard drive? Macbook pro late 2011

    My macbook has been extremely slow for a while and after looking on this site I discovered I should look at the console - and noticed I had I/O timeouts all the time which I gather are a problem.
    What can I do with my hard drive? If I back it up using time machine and erase the disk with zeros will the problem continue if I simply restore from time machine?
    Or should I invest in a new hard drive - but if I buy a new hard drive is there something on my computer that will wreck that one as well? i use final cut pro/studio a lot and it's got to the stage where I can barely use it - do I need a 7200rpm hard drive? My current one is a 500gb 5400rpm.
    I have 16gb of RAM in but since upgrading this from 4GB it made a difference to the speed for all of two seconds then the computer returned to its normal slow speed.
    Would appreciate any help on this issue as I'm not particularly technical.

    I wouldn't worry too much about what the Console logs are showing... although I/O timeouts, if related to reading/writing to your disk may be a problem. I would have to see the whole Console message to know for certain...
    Your hard drive is sure to be slowing you down with FCP. Your best bet would be to upgrade to an SSD, if you can afford it. It's the only way you're going to see a real speed increase in FCP as so many large temp/cache files are written to the drive.
    If you can't afford a SSD, you may want to look at a 7200rpm SATA III drive (if your MBP supports SATA III - which model do you have? 2011 or later, I'm assuming, since you note that you've 16GB of RAM?).
    You should also update your OS to 10.7.5 if your profile reading of 10.7.2 is correct. Won't help speed, but will be more reliable -> http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1582.

  • Can two people with their own iPhones use the same computer and iTunes?

    Can two people with their own iPhones use the same computer and iTunes?

    Yes. My wife and I each have our own Apple ID and used the same computer to sync our phones with iTunes. The best way to do this is set up separate user accounts on the computer. If you are logged in to your account on the computer and your wife wants to sync here phone, you would log out and she would log in. These keeps all your stuff separate and avoids a ton of confusion.

    I have imported my pictures into aperture, how do I export into jpeg files so i can share files with friends who dont use aperture ?

    If you want the same export settings on some or all of the images you can select all that have the same export requirements and export them as a group.
    If all the images have the same requirements then you can select them all and run the export command.

  • Informix ODBC driver and SQL Expressions

    I get an odbc error from Crystal Reports XI when I create a simple sql expression.
    Database Connector Error: '42S22: Informix Informix ODBC Driver Informix  Column (ofh) not found in any table in the query (or SLV is undefined).  Database Vendor Code: -217
    I have one table in the report (ofh) and three columns on the report.
    My syntax for the sql expression is:
    (SELECT xvd.xvd_print FROM xvd WHERE xvd.xcd_id=24 AND xvd.lng_id='0' AND xvd.xcv_id=OFH.OFT_ID)
    Where the OFH.OFT_ID is the connection to the table in the report.
    If I hard code this value the syntax is ok, but what is the use? I need to have this match the record.
    In Crystal Reports 8.5 this syntax works just fine with this same driver.
    And I tried double clicking on the column name from the formula editor and all it did was put spaces around the ofh and the oft_id with the period in the middle.
    I got the same error.
    Show SQL Query u2026 does not work to show me what it builds so I can see what it does not like.
    What syntax do I need to use to get the simple sub-select to work the same as it did in version 8.5?
    I have to convert all my 8.5 reports to XI and many use this type of feature to get the data for the report.

    The command file works wonderfully, but my hope was not to completely change each old report but simply convert them and reuse as much as possible.
    It seems that the processor that converts the linked tables and the select logic does not function in the same way as version 8.5 does to create syntax for the query when it puts it into the odbc driver.
    After more play I found that if I did not use alias names in the sub-select syntax (sql expression editor) I could get the data I needed.
    However I have not converted the more complicated reports that use the sql case statement syntax.
    I was hoping some one could look at the way Crystal Reports XI was handling the build of the select statement and see what changes where made that seem to no longer let me use the same sql statements I used in 8.5

  • Single detail Record repeated with xml for in wcf sql for xml polling.

    Hi,
    I am getting a weird results for a inner join of header detail with for xml auto, element.
    If I run the query in sql it gives me master detail results as expected. i.e
    <HEADER>
    <ID>1</ID>
           <DETAIL><ID>1</ID></DETAIL>
         <DETAIL><ID>2</ID></DETAIL>
    </HEADER>
    In BizTalk I configured the receive location and added a root node and the namespace to the binding properties.
    I get results as.
    <HEADER>
    <ID>1</ID>
           <DETAIL><ID>1</ID></DETAIL>
    </HEADER>
    <HEADER>
    <ID>1</ID>
           <DETAIL><ID>2</ID></DETAIL>
    </HEADER>
    Please Advice.
    Thank you and have great day! Vivek Kulkarni MCAD.net

    Hi Vivek,
    Took a while to simulate your issue. The usage of "FOR XML AUTO, ELEMENTS" is generally used in the old SQL-adapter. To get this working in the WCF-SQL adapter, you need to have some properties set which is not explored well.
    The issue is due to the way you have defined the SQL query and the "InboundOperationType" property of the WCF-SQL adapter. Here is the steps I have done to get the result as you wanted in WCF-SQL adapter, the same output as "FOR XML AUTO,
    ELEMENTS " in SQL.
    In the binding of the WCF-SQL adapter, select the  "InboundOperationType" property to "XMLPolling". The default is "Polling".
    In the "Polling Statement", ensure the SQL statement which will give results the XML-output as you wanted. So if you have used following statement in SQL management studio, then use the same statement in the "Polling Statement" property
    of the Receive location. Ensure you DON'T remove the "For XML AUTO" statement while configuring the SQL query in receive location. As here you have choose "XMLPolling" as the value for  "InboundOperationType"
    property, the output of the SQL statement should be XML.
    SELECT Header.ID
    ,Detail.ID
    FROM Header
    JOIN Detail ON Detail.OrderHeaderID = Header.ID
    FOR XML AUTO, ELEMENTS
    Note: You can either use SQL select statement or stored procedure. Even if any of these method used to get the resultset from SQL db, ensure it return the output in XML.
    Above query is what I have used to simulate your case, you can change it to suit your actual SQL table and column names.
    In the "PolledDataAvailableStatement" property I have used the following which would ensure that "Polling Statement" statement executes. I assume you're using this to learn how WCF-SQL adapter works, in real time you may need to update
    the query in SQL so that SQL doesn't return the resultset continuously
    SELECT top 1 Header.OrderID
    ,Detail.DetailID
    FROM Header
    JOIN Detail ON Detail.OrderHeaderID = Header.OrderID
    Try the setting, the structure of the output using the above using "XMLPolling" values in "InboundOperationType" property of the receive location binding will be same as the "FOR XML AUTO, ELEMENTS" in SQL. You may need to change
    the rootname property to suit your actual expected output.

  • Specifying Partner Failover in odbc.ini for Linux ODBC driver for SQL Server

    Hi,
    We are trying to specify the partner failover when making connections via Linux ODBC driver for SQL Server. Do you know a way to specify partner failover in the DSN entry in odbc.ini?
    We are using Linux ODBC driver for SQL Server and unixODBC DriverManager.
    Our DSN is:
    [MyDSN]
    Driver=ODBC Driver 11 for SQL Server
    Description=MyDSN
    Server=MySERVER,<port>
    I also tried to use the following connection string in Python (via pyodbc) bypassing the DSN and connecting using the server name.
    cnxn = pyodbc.connect("Server=server1,<port>;UID=sa;PWD=<pwd>;Driver=ODBC Driver 11 for SQL Server;Failover_Partner=Server2,<port2>;Database=MyDB")
    If the standby DB is on server1 connection fails. It doesn't try server2. If the DB is principal on server1 connection succeeds.
    Thank you,
     Liviu
    LLL

    Hello,
    Did you use ODBC Driver for SQL Server to connect to database that uses database mirroring?
    According to
    the BOL,it does not list "Failover_Partner" as ODBC Driver for Linux connection string keywords.
    But ODBC driver for Linux supports
    AlwaysOn Availability Groups or Failover Cluster Instance by specify MultiSubnetFailover=True when connecting to a SQL Server 2012 availability group listener or SQL Server 2012 Failover Cluster Instance.
    The following case is about similar issue and it seems that ODBC Driver on Linux does not recognize Failover_Partner in connection string. (Not test myself).You can refer to:

  • SQL CASE statement in XML template- End tag does not match start tag 'group

    Hi All,
    I am developing a report that has the SQL CASE statement in the query. I am trying to load this into RTF with report wizard and it gives me below error
    oracle.xml.parser.v2.XMLParseException: End tag does not match start tag 'group'
    Does XML publisher support CASE statement?
    My query is something like this
    SELECT customercode,
    SUM(CASE WHEN invoicedate >= current date - 30 days
    THEN balanceforward ELSE 0 END) AS "0-30",
    SUM(CASE WHEN invoicedate BETWEEN current date - 60 days
    AND current date - 31 days
    THEN balanceforward ELSE 0 END) AS "31-60",
    SUM(CASE WHEN invoicedate < current date - 60 days
    THEN balanceforward ELSE 0 END) AS "61>",
    SUM(balanceforward) AS total_outstanding
    FROM MyTable
    GROUP BY customercode
    ORDER BY total_outstanding DESC
    Please advice if the CASE statement or the double quotes are causing this error
    Thanks,
    PP

    I got this to work in the XML but the data is returning zeros for all the case statements. When I run this in toad I get results for all the case conditions but when ran in XML the data displayed is all zeros. I am not sure what I am missing. Can someone shed some light on this please
    Thanks!

  • How to use a case statement in where clause

    Hi All,
    I have a requirement which is to bring all the claims that are created in the last month.So, i wrote a query something like this
    select * from claims
    where
    (Month(ClaimOpenDate) = Month(Getdate())-1 and year(claimopendate) = year(getDate()))
    which would give me any new claims created in last month of current year, but this condition fails if we are in the first month of a new year( lets say if we are in 2016 jan then month(getdate())-1 would be 0 and year(getdate()) would be 2016 so we dont
    find any records where year is 2016 and month is 0 for claimopen).
    So, i would like to use a case statament or something which can help me get around this one.

    So if i use your logic in the end for both the where clauses its been more than 10 minutes and the query is still running however if i use my old method it doesnt even take a second. Looks like its affecting the execution plan. Any suggestions to get around
    this one please?

  • Is it possible to use a case statement when joining different tables based on input parameters?

    Hi,
    I have a scenario where my stored procedure takes 5 parameters and the users can pass NULL or some value to these parameters and based on the parameters, I need to pull data from various tables.
    Is it possible to use a case statement in the join, similar the one in the below example. I'm getting error when I use the below type of statement.
    select a.*
    from a
    case
    when parameter1=1 then
    inner join a on a.id = b.id
    when parameter1=2 then
    inner join a on a.id = c.id
    end;
    Please let me know, if this type of statement works, and if it works will it create any performance issues?. If the above doesn't work, could you please give me some alternate solutions?
    Thanks.

    Here's a technique for joining A to B or C depending on the input parameters. In theory, you are joining to both tables but the execution plan includes filters to skip whichever join is not appropriate. The drawback is that you have to do outer joins, not inner ones.
    CREATE TABLE A AS SELECT LEVEL ak FROM dual CONNECT BY LEVEL <= 100;
    CREATE TABLE b AS SELECT ak, bk
    FROM A, (SELECT LEVEL bk FROM dual CONNECT BY LEVEL <= 10);
    CREATE TABLE c(ak, ck) AS SELECT ak, bk*10 FROM b;
    variable p1 NUMBER;
    variable p2 NUMBER;
    exec :p1 := 1;
    exec :p2 := 20;
    SELECT /*+ gather_plan_statistics */ A.ak, nvl(b.bk, c.ck) otherk FROM A
    LEFT JOIN b ON A.ak = b.ak AND :p1 IS NOT NULL AND b.bk = :p1
    LEFT JOIN c ON A.ak = c.ak AND :p1 is null and :p2 IS NOT NULL and c.ck = :p2
    WHERE A.ak <= 9;
    SELECT * FROM TABLE(dbms_xplan.display_cursor(NULL,NULL,'IOSTATS LAST'));
    | Id  | Operation             | Name            | Starts | E-Rows | A-Rows |   A-Time   | Buffers |

      5 - filter(:P1 IS NOT NULL)

       8 - filter((:P2 IS NOT NULL AND :P1 IS NULL))
       9 - filter(("C"."AK"<=9 AND "C"."CK"=:P2))
    You can see that table C was not really accessed: the buffer count is 0.
    exec :p1 := NULL;
    WHERE A.ak <= 9;
    SELECT * FROM TABLE(dbms_xplan.display_cursor(NULL,NULL,'IOSTATS LAST'));
    Now table B is not accessed.

  • How do I use the CASE statement  in the where clause?

    Hello Everyone,
    I have 2 queries that do what I need to do but I am trying to learn how to use the CASE statement.
    I have tried to combine these 2 into one query using a case statement but don't get the results I need.
    Could use some help on how to use the case syntax to get the results needed.
    thanks a lot

    oh now i understand.
    i got a very unknown company which supplied the ODBC driver, but they dont have java driver...
    so I have nothing to do about it?The choices are find a different driver or use the one you have.
    The one you have doesn't do batches.
    Finding a different driver could involve the following.
    - Buying one from somewhere else
    - Pay someone to write one.
    - Write a driver yourself.
    All of those are somewhat dependent that the "unknown company" has an API that supports that. You (or someone) could also figure out the file format of the "unknown company" as well and then write one.

  • Can losing connection with an external drive lead to its failure?

    My iTunes library is currently wireless, through my Airport Extreme, so I can use it both with my Macbook Air and my iMac. Of course the downside is only one computer can access it at a time and I'm limited by the range of the Airport, but it works for me... Since my library is too big for iTunes Match anyways and I live in a small appartment it's perfect.
    Anyways, my problem is, this setup is fairly new, and a few times yesterday while I was working on adding new music to my library (ripping my CDs in lossless), I got the error message that connection was lost with my iTunes drive!
    My internet didn't seem to flinch though, which is weird. But it doesn't seem to be the "the disk was not ejected properly" external disk error that's been going around, as I HAVE that **** problem with another of my drives... (connected via cable) and it's not the same error message.
    This one is just saying the connection was lost... like Airport had the hiccups or something.
    Time for me to click on "ignore" and I could go back to what I was doing.
    Except twice, this happened WHILE a track was importing into iTunes!
    The first time, I got an error message saying it was impossible to read or write to the device... I was scared... closed iTunes, re-opened... and it looked like nothing happened! Phew. Even the freshly imported tracks were there, up the to one that was importing when it lost connection, which of course wasn't imported.
    But then it happened again... while it was, again, importing...
    This time, restarting iTunes didn't cut it.
    When I opened Airport Utility to check, I had yellow question mark, and a message saying the attached drive was failing, or corrupted, something like that (can't remember), to plug it directly in my computer and repair it!
    I did that, opened Disk Utility... and the drive won't mount.
    I tried the few tricks I know, still won't mount.
    So now I'm in the middle of creating a disk image on one of my other external drives (it's been hours and only a third has been done, I'm crossing my fingers it doesn't just freeze, give me an error message or tell me there's not enough space... because I couldn't check how much space was used since it wouldn't mount... and it has been a while since I checked).
    I'm also in the middle of checking for data recovery with my old StellarPhoenix app... not even sure what it could do or if it still works...
    But all that to wonder : can a simple network disconnection be enough to do that???
    If so, how come people rely on NAS, how come so many use Airport in conjunction with external drives?! It just doesn't make sense to me...
    Maybe this was just a weird coincidence? Or maybe I'm taking the problem the wrong way, and the lost connection happened because the drive was failing? In that case I just find it weird that I didn't see any sign of that while it was connected directly to my iMac, right until a few days ago!
    ...Gee, I'm tired of buying external drives!
    For the curious, this one is a 2TB Samsung (Iomega), bought in december 2010, so just 2 years old.

    Thanks edex67!
    Now the question would be, are numerous losses of connection in a day normal for Airport Extreme, or is mine failing?
    Can't find a model number and the serial doesn't lead anywhere, but I'm pretty sure it dates back to 2008, the second generation.
    A small update: Problem seems to definitely be just in the filesystem since after formatting all seems well, while I can't restore with my disk image, as after hours of scanning it, I now get the error message that Disk Utility can't scan it because of an internal error.
    Now let's hope I can save the data, because even though I regularly did backups of that disk, I would still lose those hours of new imports and organization I had just done when it failed...
    I'l look for Gparted also... thanks!
