Can cryptolocker infect a mac computer

Hi Can The New Malware Cryptolcker Infect A Mac Computer
Running Windows Parallels & Microsoft Office For Mac 2011

Whatever you have, it's not Cryptolocker. It and the Mac has been covered extensively. Cryptolocker is a Windows only threat. It has also been defeated. FireEye has a web page where even if your Windows computer has been infected, they can send you the decryption key to unlock it without paying the ransom fee.
Source 1
Source 2 - FireEye is one of the highest regarded anti malware and security sites. Note again that it only affects PCs running Windows.
Source 3 - I added this one to show that not everyone understands what Cryptolocker does. There are many sites that tag the Mac and Cryptolocker together, but in no case does it do what it does on the PC side. In the case of the Mac, if you see anything that says you've been infected with Cryptolocker, it's nothing more than a JavaScript loop on a web page that keeps you from backing out of that page and says you're infected. That is a VERY long way from a drive in Windows that is literally encrypted and you have to pay a ransom fee if you ever again hope to see important data you don't have backed up. There are many such fake web pages that attempt to lock the user to a particular page, and it is very easy to defeat. Some say it's the FBI, the CIA, or other fake pages demanding you call you toll free number to "fix" it.

There is no possible way to use a thunderbolt display with any MacPro or any non-thunderbolt connection. Thats why Apple still sells the LED Cinema Display.

To those curious in the future about using a "retina display", no current (as of 2013) video card could support what would be "retina" on a desktop monitor. Apple's mDP connector supports a maximum resolution of 5760 × 2160, which means it cant even run a 4K monitor, and dual-link DVI supports even less.
You would need a new display connector standard with minimum 20% more bandwidth to support a "retina" resolution of twice Apple's Cinema/Thunderbolt display.

  • Installing BootCamp Driver on a non mac computer for debugging purpose

Hello, is it possible to install BootCamp Driver on a non mac computer in order to debug a software that is very slow on a Windows XP/BootCamp with MacBook Pro (I can't use the Mac computer for a long time, then I must test on my computer : a PC, not a Mac) : is it possible ? I tried to install Bootcamp 2.1 on a Windows XP SP2 on a PC, but the software quit after a while without any message.
    Thanks for help, Patrice.

Hi Patrice and welcome to Discussions,
I admit I never in 20+ years tried to do what you try to accomplish but I would assume that a Windows driver would only install if the appropriate hardware device is present.
So, I don't think you can do this.

  • HT5228 How can I tell if my  computer has been infected with the Trojan?

How can I tell if my computer has been infected with this latest Trojan (or with any Trojan)?  I did install the latest update to Java when I was told by my iMac that new software was available for my computer, which was just 2 or 3 days ago (first week of April).  Now it is being said that there was a Java Trojan.
    Many thanks for any replies!

Log out and log back in, if you haven’t done so recently. Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
    Step 1
Copy or drag — do not type — the line below into the Terminal window, then press return:
    launchctl getenv DYLD_INSERT_LIBRARIES
Post the lines of output, if any, that appear below what you just entered (the text, please, not a screenshot.)
    Step 2
Repeat with this line (triple-click anywhere in it to select the whole line):
    find /Applications /System/Library/CoreServices -type d -name *.app -exec defaults read {}/Contents/Info LSEnvironment \; 2> /dev/null | grep DYLD_INSERT_LIBRARIES
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
If you get no output from either step, you're not infected with any variant of Flashback that I know of.

  • Is it possible for a CD to be infected with a virus and can it infect my computer.

My cousin burned me a Cd of her music and she told me it took her a minute to burn it because her computer was infected with a virus and she believes that was the reason why. My question is if I import this Cd in my ITunes will it give my Macbook system a virus? Or am I just worrying for nothing?

can a CD pack a virus, certainly, seen it a million times.  Will it infect you Mac? NO.  I assume she has a PC and not a Mac.   Before you drag over the MP3 music ,
    download the free program CLAMXaV
    https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/clamxav/id430207028?mt=12
That way you can scan the CD if anything is on the CD besides music, and also help her determine what is/isnt on her computer.
    What is scareware?
Another type of hoax is referred to as scareware. It's a bogus virus warning that pops up when visiting some websites, and looks something like this. If you take a close look, you'll see the popup refers to a Windows system, which obviously doesn't relate to Mac OS X. It can't harm your Mac at all. Just close the site, clear your browser's cache and cookies, and you'll be fine. Sometimes these scareware sites will generate a never-ending loop of popups, to the point that you must Force Quit your browser. Such scareware sites are usually intended to lure a Windows user into clicking the links to install bogus "antivirus" software, which is typically a trojan. Even if you click the links on a Mac system, it can't install anything, because Windows executable files can't run on Mac OS X.
There are NO viruses in the wild that affect Mac OS X at this time.
If this changes, this post will be updated. According to noted computer virus expert Paul Ducklin, in order for a virus to be considered in the wild, "it must be spreading as a result of normal day-to-day operations on and between the computers of unsuspecting users." This definition excludes "proof of concept" code that is used in a testing situation under strictly controlled conditions, and which poses zero threat to average computer users.
In the past, there have been a few viruses that ran on older versions of the Mac operating system (Mac OS 9 and earlier), but they do not run on any version of Mac OS X. Like every other OS, Mac OS X is not immune to malware threats, this situation could change at any time, but if a new virus is discovered, the news media, forums, blogs, etc. will be instantly buzzing with the news.
There are trojans that can affect Mac OS X
These must be downloaded and installed by the user, which usually involves entering the user's administrator password. Also, Mac OS X will give you a warning when you first launch an app you downloaded from the web. Trojans can easily be avoided by the user exercising common sense and caution when installing applications. A common source of trojans is pirated software, typically downloaded from bit torrent sites.

  • I want to put music on my iPhone 4, but am not able to because I can not download the version of iTunes required because my mac computer is too old.

Am just having troubles in adding music to my new phone in that when I connect it to my computer it says that the phone requires the new version of iTunes being 10.5, but when I go to download this for my mac computer it says that this version of iTunes requires a different mac, meaning that my computer is too old.  So I am just wondering how I can get music onto my phone?!

You will have to upgrade your operating system version and possibly your whole computer.  We cannot provide more information easily until we know more about your system.
Get more information about your computer. Go to the Apple in the upper left corner of any window, then "About This Mac", then "More Info..."  Copy and paste the information here, but omit the serial number and Hardware UUID (if present).
Apple does tell you about required equipment for the iPhone -- in 8 point medium gray type on a light gray box.   The Store associates kind of automatically assume everybody is running a new model computer and the one I met when we bought our iPhone had never seen a pre-2008 Mac and was somewhat puzzled why anybody would own such an antique.

Which OS & iTunes versions do you have?

  • I have an iphone 4s.  I have a mac computer and a pc.  Most of my itunes library is on my pc, but when I try to add music to my phone from my library on the pc, it won't let me do it.  I CAN add music from my library that is on my mac, same account.

I have an iphone 4s.  I have a mac computer and a pc.  Most of my itunes library is on my pc, but when I try to add music to my phone from my library on the pc, it won't let me do it.  I CAN add music from my library that is on my mac, same account.  My husband has the same problem with his iphone 4, but only uses pc.

My husband and I are using the same iTunes account on all mac & pc computers, but the libraries are different on each machine.  We always manually manage our music (no auto sync).  iTunes is up to date on the PCs.  My husband uses our joint iTunes account on his pc, but once again, has a different collection in his library from those on the other machines.  He can't load any music from his PC to his iphone 4.  I can load music from my mac library to my iphone 4s, but cannot load from my pc library to my iphone 4s.  How can I switch my main library that it syncs with from the mac to the pc?
    Thanks

  • My girlfriends ex left this Mac computer behind on PURPOSE!  Can her ex still operate this computer?  I don't know the default keychain password or how to find it

Ok...so I am REALLY new to this whole Mac thing and my girlfriend knows less than I do about computers and phones, etc.  but I have been using her Mac computer and thought how cool it was until I synced my iphone to it and all of her ex's apps went on my phone so then I tried to find out how to get her ex's name and info off the computer and realized that just because the log in name is my girlfriends name...the computers name and all HIDDEN passwords and HIDDEN dates of when things have been changed.
Can this person have access to anything I have done on that computer?
How do I find the default keychain login?
How can I assure she cannot get any files or ANYTHING off this computer?
My girlfriend doesn't really want to lose her files like photos and iTunes but I am assuming since my girlfriend wasn't really ever the one "truly" logging in....
    I don't know.
    Need help for dummies here!

They were together living in this house for 7 years.  My girlfriend purchases the Mac.  Her girlfriend sets up the Mac.  They mutually break up and her girlfriend says "I put the computer in YOUR name" so don't worry... Go ahead and use it.  When I say she left it behind on purpose what I mean is the computer is in the ex's name bc she PUT it in her name ...like all the cloud stuff.  And sub accounts are in my gf's name...like ....user login.  But my gfs not really the administrator of this computer and her ex has 3 macs of her own that I (THINK) are attached to this "system".
I am SO new at this that I JUST created an account on this website to try to get help.  I own a business and have been using this computer not knowing that my girlfriend isn't the one who set her own computer up.  I know nothing about a Mac.  I don't know if someone who has another Mac on the system can transfer files?  I have been logging onto the computer under my gf's user name and password just to access what in my mind is known as the regular Internet.  My gmail...my business email login...passwords...bank account, ect.
I just want to ensure she can't access MY stuff.  I don't care about HER stuff!
I'm not a hacker!  ****....I didn't even know how to open up a new tab on the freaking thing until just a few months ago!  Lol

Do you have scroll bars enabled in the System Preferences > General tab (MacOS X 10.7 or later)?
Try, if setting this to "Show scroll bars > Always" will bring your scrollbar back.

If you want to erase the disk, reinstall Mac OS X and your Mac didn't come with DVDs or you have OS X Mountain Lion or Lion:
    1. Press Command and R keys while your Mac is starting.
    2. Open Disk Utility, choose Macintosh HD in the sidebar and erase the drive.
    3. Install Mac OS X.
If your Mac came with DVDs:
    1. Insert the OS X DVD that came with the Mac and press C key while your Mac is starting.
    2. Go to Utilities > Disk Utility, choose Macintosh HD in the sidebar and erase the drive.
    3. Install Mac OS X
