Can custom build install OSX?

Hi, I just wondering about this since I want to spend my own money to buy custom build so I want to install Microsoft Windows 7 and Apple MAC OSX so I hope you guys can help me to decide what is the best to get it.
P.S. I rather to have custom than buy iMac or Macbook Pro (just because they dont have blu ray)
Thanks,
Mustapha

What type of programs are you intending on running? If you only need to run Office, Email, and Web applications then 4GB of RAM should be enough, but if you plan on doing any creative professional work, virtualization, or scientific computing then 8GB of RAM or more would be preferred.
As for Windows, Apple provides Boot Camp, which will allow you to install Windows to a second partition on your hard drive (dual-booting). However, this requires you to shut down the Mac side in order to run Windows, and vice versa. An alternative to this is to use a virtalization program like Parallels Desktop or VMWare Fusion, which will allow you to run Windows within OS X. The benefit is you can run programs side-by-side with your Mac programs, but at a cost of overall performance (and dong such will use more system resources and thereby require more RAM, so 8GB would be a minimum I would recommend).
The only options for building a supported Mac system are through Apple's online store, where you will configure a Mac system for your needs by choosing items like CPU speeds, RAM, and hard drive options. Apple does not support Blu Ray on its systems.

    Hi Maya
    First of all an Applet does not have to be "installed" as you would with a normal application. The browser handles the install and execution of the applet.
    Check out this URL for more about applets:
    http://web2.java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/applet/index.html
    On the subject client/server pairs - see:

    If you decide to make the game an application instead check out Sun's WebStart - under the products section.
    That's about all the help I can give you.

  • Can't re-install OSX

    When I purcahsed this Macbook it was running Snow Leopard then upgraded to Lion and now Mavericks.
    Lately I am having problem updating Apps from Itunes, it shows a different Apple ID and I can't change it.
    I have tried all and various ways to solve that problem but to no avail. So I decided to re-install OSX using the original DVD provided.
    It shows you can't run this version. So I tried using the Disk Utilities but prompted Apple ID and Password.
    Frustrastingly, it mentioned this wasn't the password during the purchase of the Maverick. I have all ways but gave up.
    Please assist, thanks.

    You may need to invest in DiskWarrior. It can sometimes see and repair a hard drive that cannot be seen by Apple's own Disk Utility.

  • Can't re-install osx lion / osx mavericks

    Hey guys I have a MBP 13" Late 2011.
    My problem is that just recently, I was not able to boot into osx mavericks. (Originally had Lion, but I upgraded)
    It kept getting stuck at the apple boot logo. I had windows 7 installed on my macbook through bootcamp and I'm able to boot there just fine.
    I ended up having to erase my osx mavericks hdd. I was planning on reinstalling mavericks, but I wasn't able to because it said I needed to have osx lion installed. I don't have the install disk, if there is one, because it was pre-installed when the laptop was bought. I also don't have the original apple id that was used to purchase osx lion.
    Is there some other way to re-install osx mavericks?
    Thanks

    That's the problem. Mavericks has to be downloaded with your user ID in order for it to install. What model is your system?

  • Can't re-install OSX 10.1 on iBook G3 700 MHz

    Hey,
    When I try and install the OS either by software restore or the OSX disc itself, it can't find the HD. A previous install attempt went sour and now I think I'm paying the price. I think the HD is okay physically.
    I have a powerbook and external FW HDs if this might help.
    thanks,
    Crazy

    Hi
    If you do have a firewire hd, try it out. Just hold option as you boot to choose it, if you can start up off it, you can see if your hard drive works. Do you gave tectool? It comes with the applecare cd. It can tell you if anything is wrong with the hd. Or, an apple store will test it for you. You might need a new hd, though, as it is strange it wouldent be recognised.
    Hope this helps
    ps...if you have a firewire cable, you can boot off the powerbook, just hold f as you boot. Your hd should appear.

  • Why can't I install OSX 10.7 on my 20" imac?

    I want to be able to run iTunes radio on my late 2006 20" iMac but it requires OSX 10.7. I have OSX 10.6.8 and I don't know why I cannot install 10.7 on this model iMac.

    I did not try to download or purchase Lion because of other posts that I read. Perhaps I misread, but I was just trying to understand the technical reason for he limitation (memory, cpu, etc) and also see if somebody had an alternative to get iTunes Radio. I did upgrade the memory to 4 gigs but have the "late 2006 iMac".
    Thanks

  • Can't re install OSX Yosemite

    Hi,
    I have multiple problems on a 13" macbook Pro. (late 2009) which has no backup..
    1. Computer shuts down after about 1 third of booting.
    2. Unable to boot in safe mode.
    3. Unable to re install Yosemite because disk is locked.
    Would anyone have any idea on how to unlock the disk so I could re-install Yosemite without having to wipe the disk first ?
    Thank you for your help guys !

    Thank you for your help guys !
    Disk can be locked for many reasons. In your case, the most possible case is that you have a software (or Hardware) corruption on your Hard Drive. Boot your Macbook Pro to Recovery mode: OS X: About OS X Recovery - Apple Support
    From OS X Utility Window select Disk Utility, and when this tool is fully loaded, select your OS partition (by default called Macintosh HD) and Verify Disk first and  if necessary Repair Disk if possible:
    Using Disk Utility to verify or repair disks - Apple Support
    Resolve startup issues and perform disk maintenance with Disk Utility and fsck - Apple Support
    If Disk Utility cannot repair your disk, then you will need to Erase your drive and reinstall OS X (this will also wipe all of your data): OS X Yosemite: Erase and reinstall OS X
    If you do not have a backup of your files then you have a few options that you could try to attempt to rescue your data but this will require additional devices and your patience...
    You could try Target Disk Modet: OS X Mountain Lion: Transfer files between two computers using target disk mode
    If you don't have an access to other Mac, but you do have an access to empty USB External Hard Drive, then by booting your Mac to Recovery Mode, you can install OS X on External Hard Drive (use external Hard Drive partition as a destination disk for OS X) and that will give you an option to access files on corrupted drive to copy them before erasing your Internal Drive and Installing OS X again.

  • Can I remote install OSX 10.6?

    I am looking at purchasing a used Macbook Pro 1,1 for $400.  It's an intel Core Duo 2GHZ with 1GB RAM.  The CD Drive is broken (there is a small dent on the side and the seller says he dropped the MBP and from that dent forward the drive no longer functioned).  Overall the computer is in good shape besides this dent.
    My question is a two parter: I have a MBP myself and an iMac.  Can I somehow remote install Snow Leopard (and Lion when it comes out) with the install disc?
    And two: is $400 worth this?
    Thanks!

    Yes it's possible to get OS X onto a Mac without a Superdrive.
    What you need to do is get a powered external drive and another Mac that's the same make and model, use it to Disk Utility format HFS+ Journaled the external drive.
    You can use the Snow Leopard retail disks and another different Mac possibly, no free iLife (that only comes on the disks with the comptuer).
    Then c boot off the installer disks that come with the Mac (either one will do) install OS X onto the external drive and reboot holding option. You select the external drive to boot from.
    Then you setup the accounts, and software update fully, download the free/donationware Carbon Copy Cloner to this external OS X drive.
    Now take this external drive to the broken Mac and reboot holding option, if everything works then your good to go ahead and clone that external drive to the internal drive of the broken Mac and set it as the startup disk in system prefs.
    There is also a way to install OS X onto a Flash thumb drive however I haven't researched it.
    Also OS X Lion is downloaded and installed via the MacAppStore, no disks. So you won't have to worry about that, but you need to update CCC for Lion so it will clone it. Lion will have a recovery partition on the drive, so it's even easier to repair.
    Lion won't run on the following Intel based machines.
    iMac 4,1 Early (Jan-Sept) 2006 17"
    iMac 4,1 Early (Jan-Sept) 2006 20"
    iMac 4,2 Mid (July-Sept) 2006 17"

    Hello Again! You may be able to use FTDM to run the installer from the G5. Tom
    How to use FireWire target disk mode
    Learn what FireWire target disk mode (TDM) is and how to use it.
    Description and requirements
    FireWire target disk mode allows a Macintosh computer with a FireWire port (the target computer) to be used as an external hard disk connected to another computer (the host). Once a target computer is started up as a FireWire hard disk and is available to the host computer, you can copy files to or from that volume.
    Important: The computer will not go into FireWire target disk mode if "Open Firmware Password" has been enabled.
    Host computer requirements
    Host computers must meet the following requirements:
    * Built-in FireWire port, or a FireWire port on a PC card
    * FireWire 2.3.3 or later
    * Mac OS 8.6 or later
    Target computers
    The following models can be used as target computers:
    * iMac (Slot Loading) with Firmware version 2.4 or later
    * iMac (Summer 2000) and all models introduced after July 2000
    * eMac (all models)
    * Mac mini (all models)
    * Power Mac G4 (AGP Graphics) with ATA drive
    * Power Mac G4 Cube
    * Power Mac G4 (Gigabit Ethernet) and all models introduced after July 2000
    * Power Mac G5 (all models)
    * iBook (FireWire) and all models introduced after September 2000
    * MacBook (all models)
    * PowerBook G3 (FireWire)
    * PowerBook G4 (all models)
    * MacBook Pro (all models)
    FireWire software
    You can download the latest Firmware and FireWire software from the Apple Support Downloads page (http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/).
    How to use FireWire target disk mode
    Important: Unplug all other FireWire devices from both computers prior to using FireWire target disk mode. Do not plug in any FireWire devices until after you have disconnected the two computers from each other, or have stopped using target disk mode.
    Tip: If you will be transferring FileVault-protected home directories (Mac OS X 10.3 or later only), log in as the FileVault-protected user and temporarily turn off FileVault. After transferring home directory contents to the target computer, enable FileVault protection again if desired.
    To use FireWire target disk mode
    1. Make sure that the target computer is turned off. If you are using a PowerBook or iBook as the target computer, you should also plug in its AC power adapter.
    2. Use a FireWire cable (6-pin to 6-pin) to connect the target computer to a host computer. The host computer does not need to be turned off.
    3. Start up the target computer and immediately press and hold down the T key until the FireWire icon appears. The hard disk of the target computer should become available to the host computer and will likely appear on desktop. (If the target computer is running Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger, you can also open System Preferences, choose Startup Disk, and click Target Disk Mode. Then restart the computer and it will start up in Target Disk Mode.)
    4. When you are finished copying files, drag the target computer's hard disk icon to the Trash or select Put Away from the File menu (Mac OS 9) or Eject from the File menu (Mac OS X).
    5. Press the target computer's power button to turn it off.
    6. Unplug the FireWire cable.
    If the target computer's hard disk does not become available to the host computer, check the cable connections and restart the host computer.
    Find out about "FireWire Ports and Specifications".
    Tip: FireWire Target Disk Mode works on internal ATA drives only. Target Disk Mode only connects to the master ATA drive on the Ultra ATA bus. It will not connect to Slave ATA, ATAPI or SCSI drives.
    Using Target Disk Mode with Intel-based Macs
    If you attempt to mount an Intel-based Mac in Target Disk Mode on a Macintosh running Mac OS X 10.3.9 or earlier, you'll see an alert message. For more information, see article 303118, "Intel-based Macs: "You have inserted a disk containing no volumes that Mac OS X can read" alert message".

  • I inadvertently deleted and emptied the trash bin on Firefox. I have a MAC OSX-VERSION 10.4.11. How can I re-install the latest version of Firefox that is COMPUTER FRIENDLY for the MAC OSX Version 10.4.11? I appreciate any help.

    I inadvertently deleted Firefox and emptied the trash bin. I believe it was version 3.5. I have a MAC OSX 10.4.11. After several futile attemps how can I re-install the latest version of Firefox compatible to my MAC system? Thanks!

    As of Firefox 4.0 and newer the Firefox builds from Mozilla requires both Mac OSX 10.'''5'''+ and a Intel.
    Either you can use 3.6.19 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
    Though for you 3.6.18 will be safe also as 3.6.19 was to workaround a font crashing issue on 10.7 Lion that was not fixed in time on Lion before release. http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/3.6.18/mac/ and pick your language and download the Firefox 3.6.18.dmg

  • Can't build tp_smapi package under custom kernel, built ok with stock

    Hi,
    I followed this guide and built a custom kernel http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Cus … n_with_ABS   (with the PKGBUILD file found in this page).
    Basically I changed the LOCALVERSION while config kernel module, and changed processor type to Pentium M, exclude some drivers.
    Now I can't build tp_smapi package with yaourt -S, gives me error:
    -> Extracting tp_smapi-0.40.tgz with bsdtar
    ==> Entering fakeroot environment...
    ==> Starting build()...
    patching file Makefile
    /usr/bin/make -C /lib/modules/2.6.32.8-custom/build M=/tmp/yaourt-tmp-user/aur-tp_smapi/tp_smapi/src/tp_smapi-0.40 O=/lib/modules/2.6.32.8-custom/build modules

    make[2]: *** No rule to make target `/usr/src/linux-2.6.32.8-custom/arch/x86/Makefile'.  Stop.
    make[1]: *** [sub-make] Error 2
    make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-2.6.32.8-custom'
    make: *** [modules] Error 2

    make: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-2.6.32.8-custom'
    ==> Tidying install...
      -> Purging other files...
    However it builds fine if run the stock Arch kernel.
    This package depends on kernel26-headers, it pulls this down and installed, but itself is failed.
    I believe the error is due to it requires the kernel26-headers as the other AUR packages don't.
    tp_smapi's PKGBUILD is here
    http://dpaste.com/162443/
    Any suggestions/help?

    Hi,
    I wanted to build a kernel26-ice with tp_smapi included as I would love to have more than one kernel on my system. However, I do not find any information on patching the kernel with such patch. Can anyone guide me to the right direction?
    EDIT:
    Excuse me for any inconvenience, I found, that kernel26-zen may be what I am looking for as it uses tp_smapi as a patch.

  • Can I use an OSX 10.6.3 install disk to upgrade from OSX 10.5.8

    Can I use an OSX 10.6.3 install disk to upgrade from OSX 10.5.8

    Yes. And, see below:
    Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion
    You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
    You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard — Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
    After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
    If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
    You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service — this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
    To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
         OS X Mountain Lion — System Requirements
           Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) —
                 Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
    To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
    Are my applications compatible?
             See App Compatibility Table — RoaringApps.
         For a complete How-To introduction from Apple see Upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion.

  • Remote printer is recognized but message says can't find printer?  It worked great before installing OSX Maverick

    Remote printer is recognized but message says can't find printer?  It worked great before installing OSX Maverick?

    Thank you for your response.
    Unfortunately I have already rebooted the router and that did not fix the problem. The weird thing is that the computer is connected to the network, it just won't connect to my computer. I have printed the network configuration page to confirm this, and it says the wireless signal is strong.
    I have not changed anything at all recently in terms of routers, networks, etc. The printer stopped working completely randomly.
    Is there a part in the printer that like emits a signal which computers, phones, etc are supposed to detect? I don't know enough about the mechanics to really theorize about what is wrong, but it seems like that is the only thing that stopped working.
    Do you have any other suggestions?
