Can delete songs from iPod shuffle automatically but not podcasts

Suddenly when I delete songs from my iTunes library they will also be deleted on my iPod shuffle, which is what I want, but when I do the same with podcasts (delete them from my iTunes library) they do not automatically get deleted from my Shuffle.
Any ideas on what's wrong? Thanks.

When you try to delete from a device running iOS 7, make sure to hold your finger on the song for a few seconds before swiping to the left. This should expose the red Delete button.

Monty's solution will work if you have left the songs in one of your playlists. Another idea if that doesn't work is to check your iTunes list for that iPod. Check at the very bottom beneath the albums, artist,s and other content to add to your iPod, and be sure that you don't have individual songs selected to be added as well. If you do, eliminate them from that bottom list, and you should be fine.

Thanks, Brenden. I was able to restore my iPod Shuffle, following the provided link. All of the songs on the Shuffle were deleted.
I had the songs in my iTunes library that I wanted to sync with the Shuffle. I checked the songs in the library I wanted synced, but none of them came back on my Shuffle. Odd. It stated the "sync was complete," however, my Shuffle remains empty of any songs.
Oh well ... Will work at this more to see what the problem is. At least I have the songs in my iTunes library.

The problem I have is that there are songs in my library that are no longer on my hard drive. I've either removed them or renamed them. And now, when iTunes comes across one of these song entries it gives the the prompt to locate it. I know that there used to be a way to find all these, but with all the changes in itunes 11, I have no idea how to do it now. Is there an easy way to highlight and delete all of these entries?

I would not use iTunes Match as a backup. There are too many bugs and I don't think that's what they intended it to be anyway. The main advantage of using it is to make your music available on OTHER devices, not to replace the music on your original computer.

planb77 is wrong. There is a way to delete songs, artists, albums, and playlists directly from your ipod touch. Simply click the song, artist, album, or playlist you want to delete but dont let go and slide your finger to your left (or right) and a red button will pop up to the right of the song, album, artist, or playlist title saying "Delete". Simply click it to delete it. To cancel and hide this button or option, simply slide right or left again or tap your finger anywhere on the screen away from the "delete" button.
BTW I am not absolutely sure if this will work on all previous versions of the Ipod Touch. I am running iOS 5. iOS 5.0.1 to be excact.

When i first bought my shuffle a few years back, i would use the itunes in my old laptop to add/delete songs from it. However, recently i realised im unable to do so on my new laptop (using itunes). CRMToolBox gives you an option to work on webresources. Alternatly, You can export the webresource, work in Visual Studio and use the browse button on the webresource editor to upload the updated file.

Need help in deleting songs from iPod

I'm trying to delete songs from iPod (not library), but song and podcast list is grayed out. I cannot select them to delete them. This seems like a very simple thing to do. I have the latest iTunes and iPod software loaded and have tried the online help, the 5 Rs and restart. I'm feeling really stupid here!!!!!

If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows. If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. This is just a selection, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. You mean music that was not purchased from the iTunes Store?
If so, that means the music was transferred from your iTunes library on computer via the iTunes sync process - unless you are an iTunes Match subscriber.
Music transferred from your computer can be removed the same way - via the iTunes sync process or you should be able to delete individual songs direct from the iPhone.

You can't upload music to iCloud unless you are an iTunes Match subscriber, and if you are the songs are uploaded or matched from the iTunes library on your computer, not your device. Photos are only uploaded to Photo Stream temporarily (30 days), for up to 1000 photos so it's not meant to be a permanent storage option. The uploaded photos are also generally of lower quality than the originals on your device. Also, only photos taken on your device after turning on Photo Stream are uploaded. Finally, when you turn Photo Stream on, uploaded photos will be streamed back to your device in a Photo Stream album (so it actually uses some of your memory rather than saving it). As for documents, only iWork documents are uploaded.
If you really want to free up storage on your device consider more permanent cloud storage services such as DropBox (which will handle photos and all documents).

IPod Nano 5th Gen... Deleting Songs from iPod while connected to iTunes

There are some songs on my iPod Nano that I want to delete from the iPod but still keep in Library...
When I connect my iPod to my Mac, all of the songs show up that are on my iPod but I am unable to click the song and delete it from my iPod.
All of the songs are not bold like when I look at them in my library.
I can't click on any of the songs... when I hold the control button and click my mouse the only thing that pops up is a menu that features:
Get Info
Reset Play Count
Reset Skip Count
Show in Playlist
Apply Sort Field
Can anyone help me????

If you want to delete songs from iTunes and keep them on the iPod you need to change the update option of your iPod to "manually manage music and videos" (this setting isn't available for 1st and 2nd generation iPod shuffles, you can't delete from iTunes and keep the songs on the these). The content of iTunes and the iPod are not syncronised in this mode so the two can be different, you can get details here:

One major word of caution. If you delete songs or videos from your computer and have no back up other than the iPod you will risk losing them permanently if your iPod fails or you find you have to restore it to solve a problem. You should consider investing in an additional internal or external hard drive to store/back up your music. Alternatively at the very least back up anything you can't replace such as iTunes downloads to CD or DVD or an external drive:

Am I right in thinking that if I want to delete a tune from my iPod I have to delete it from my library?
In that case if I want to get it back again, do I have to either buy the file again or re-rip it from my CDs?
I am reaching my 2GB limit for my Nano and want to know if I get any new CDs that I can "chop and change" a bit for variety. (OK so I have 500 songs on there, but I will always be a sucker for new CDs...I used to carry around a whole wallet of 32 CDs with me "just in case" so...this is the equivalent...)

You do not have to delete it from your library. You should be able to delete it only from your iPod. If you are using playlists to update you iPod you can delete it from your playlist. If you are smart you will keep it in you library and it will not be moved to your playlist only copied. Hope this helped!!!! If you do delete a file from you library you should have the option to keep it on your hard drive or remove it, if the file is removed (deleted) you will have to re-purchase or re-rip the disk. And if you delete a song just from you library yolu can try to find it on you hard disk and re add it to you library.
