Can Effects etc. windows be moved or resized?

The effects window is a little small and claustrophobic even on my 24" display.
Can it be moved and resized?
Also is there any PDF version of the Help Manual available?

I have discovered how to download a PDF Help Manual:-
1. Go here  http://help.apple.com/finalcutpro/mac/10.0/
2. Click on the printer icon in the top right corner and select "Book".
3. In the printer window click the "PDF" button and select "Save as PDF".
I would still like to know about repositioning and resizing windows.

  • How can one resize a inDesign Document Window without moving Document's position?

I've searched high and low for an answer to this habit that inDesign has. Am I the only one that finds this annoying?
You go to adjust the size of your document window to move it out of the way to get to something else on your desktop, and instead of keeping the document in place and just resizing the window, it moves the document with the resize. Not sure if I'm putting this in a way that people can understand me. Say I have two inDesign files open side by side and I zoom in on an area and adjust my view of the page. Then I go to the other inDesign document and adjust the view by grabbing the bottom right hand corner of the window and moving it to where I want it. The whole document then moves with it! I desire it not to, so now I have to waste time by using the hand tool to move it back into place. Illustrator doesn't act like this. Photoshop doesn't act like this. Only inDesign. Does this harken back to the PageMaker days? Am I missing a preference somewhere I need to change? Or is it just the way of things and I'm stuck with it?
Currently using inDesign CS5 and CS6 on a Mac in OS 10.6.8

    Hi,
The simplest would be to set the application preferences in the script.
    Like this :
    -- *** set prefs ****
    tell application "AppleWorks 6"
          activate
          set oldPrefs to its preferences
          copy oldPrefs to tPrefs
          tell tPrefs
set old version warning to false --doesn't show the old version warning alert
set converted file suffix to true -- append “[v6.0]” to documents converted from older formats
set locked file warning to false
set paint reduction warning to false
          end tell
          set preferences to tPrefs
    end tell
    -- *** end set prefs ****
    --**** your script, example ***
set tfiles to choose file with multiple selections allowed
    tell application "AppleWorks 6"
          repeat with i in tfiles
                open i
                tell front document
                      -- do something
                end tell
          end repeat
    end tell
    --**** end  your script ***
    -- *** reset prefs ****
tell application "AppleWorks 6" to set preferences to oldPrefs

  • I created an album and have been showing it presentation style, ken burns effects etc. Now every time I try to re-run it it starts from the end, last picture first! Can't seem to be able to reverse it. Any clue anyone?

I created an album and have been showing it presentation style, ken burns effects etc. Now every time I try to re-run it it starts from the end, last picture first! Can't seem to be able to reverse it. Any clue anyone?

    First try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
or with Lion, Mt. Lion or Mavericks delete the contents the User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/
    Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto, reset iPhoto's preferences and try again.
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
If you're running Mavericks, 10.9,  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
where you can check the Show Library Folder checkbox.
Next, if necessary, continue with the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Can Openbox change window transparency/opacity when moving windows?

Can I configure, within Openbox or a compositing manager, differing window transparency/opacity when moving a window?

I'm currently using cairo-compmgr, but I've also used xcompmgr in the past. I've played around with the settings in both (and transset-df with xcompmgr), with no luck thus far. While getting terminal and tint2 transparency is fairly trivial, and I've also read that you can set specific windows to always have a certain level of transparency/opacity, I'm not sure that you can get the level of opacity/transparency to change whenever you grab a window and move it around. I think I read that the difficulty lies in the fact that Openbox knows when a window is being moved around, but a compositer doesn't. What I'm looking for may only be possible in a DE where the window management and compositing are integrated (e.g. KWin). Just wondering if anybody has done this with Openbox and a specific compositing manager paired together.

  • Can't minimise windows anymore

When I use Safari it opens in a tiny little window.  I use the green button to maximise but then the yellow button doesn't work and I cannot minimise.  I have to shut Safari down completely in order to check Mail, use Word, etc.  Can anyone help please?

    Hello there, Foogah.
The following link to the online Mac OS X Help Menu provides some great information in regards to the functionality of windows in Mac OS X:
    Window basics - Mac Help
In particular, this section may be useful:
    Move, resize, and minimize windows
Move a window: Click the window’s title bar, then drag it where you want it.
Manually resize a window: Drag the window’s edges (top, bottom, and sides).
Expand a window: Double-click an app’s title bar to expand the app window to fill the space between the Dock and the menu bar. If the Dock is on the side of your screen, the window expands to fill the space below the menu bar and to the side of the Dock. You can also Option-click the green full-screen button in the top-left corner of an app window.
To return to standard view, double-click the title bar, or Option-click the green full-screen button again.
If you double-click an app’s title bar, and the app minimizes into the Dock, the “Double-click a window’s title bar to minimize” option is set in Dock preferences. To instead expand the app window, choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Dock, then deselect “Double-click a window’s title bar to minimize.”
Minimize a window: Click the yellow minimize button in the top-left corner of the window, or press Command (⌘)-M.
Some windows can’t be moved or resized, and may require that you perform an action or answer a question before you can continue with a task.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • Why my Logic Studio 9 (upgrade) does not install Soundtrack Pro, sound effects etc..?

I just bought Logic Studio 9 (latest I suppose) upgrade version. Now I figured out that it does not allow me to install for example Soundtrack Pro, Sound Effects etc... How can I install them?
Logic Studio 8 was not installed prior to install because OS X Lion does not allow me to install logic studio 8.
What should I do now? Complete uninstall OS X and only update to OS X Leopard?

    Hi
You have either moved the Applications or re-named them. For the updaters to work the Apps must be named "Logic Pro" and "MainStage.

  • Moving and Resizing UIComponents

    Hi,
I am making a flex application in which I am drawing Square,
    Rectangle,Ellipse, line,etc with flex UIComponent.
I want to Moving and Resize the UIComponents .
And what would be a better way to put UIComponent on some
container and resize and move the container ? Or directly move and
    resize the UIComponent ?
Can any one help me ??

    Hello all,
regarding what I asked about, I've found this https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Resiz … Partitions
So the question now is about moving. If I dd sda5 to sda4 will I have to set something up for it work? Like some offsets/adresses?
If I am able to move sda5 to sda4, the rest will be fairly easy. Any about my partitiong layout - it's manual, I've used fdisk, cryptsetup, mkfs and the lvm tools that come with the arch install iso.
Also some have misunderstood - currently everything but the boot partition, which is on another drive, is encrypted - in one LUKS partition and inside it there is an LVM with the different partitions.
I've tested on a virtual machine by doing the following:
    unmount partitions
move the luks partition by using dd with opts bs=4096 conv=notrunc, noerror, sync
after that follow https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Resiz … Partitions
Worked like a charm(if you need to remove mappers use dmsetup).
After that: the uuid's of the lvm's are the same so that's cool. Just need to get the UUID of the new luks partition and set it in grub's cryptroot parameter.
    That's all
Still I think I will backup everything first, then I will try this.

  • Cropping when moving and resizing a cropping rectangle

I created a program that crops an image and displays the cropped image but I'm trying to add more functionality
by making it movable and resizable. The rectangle moves and resizes but it only crops an image when user draws the rectangle and not when moved or resized. I know that the X,Y, height and width position of the rectangle would need to be updated but I'm not

    Hello HotSawz,
The ResizeThumb and MoveThumb is not in your code so I cannot compile. Anyway, it is not the problem.
Anyway, can you clarify more details about "it only crops an image when user draws the rectangle and not when moved or resized", it is already normal behavoir for you to draw a rectangle and then move it. What kind of action do you want? Do you
    mean some controls like this:

  • Can't extend windows 7 partition, even though I have 40gb of unallocated space?

Can someone help? I am in computer management in Windows 7 and would like to somehow use "unallocated space" of 40gb to further expand and extend my Windows 7 partition of 325gb, but the option is grayed out.   I can shrink the Windows 7 Partition,
but can't seem to extend it.
In the diagram, this is the order of my partitions:
325gb (Windows 7, NTFS & Primary Partition), 89.13gb (Ubuntu (Linux) 10.04 & primary partition), 3.82gb free space, 39.75gb unallocated space, and 7.79gb for a recovery/respawn (oem) partition (primary partition).
Anyone know if its the order of my partitions thats the problem and thats why i can't seem to extend the partition?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

Are you sure all the unallocated space is exactly behind your partition that you want to extend? If not, I think that’s why the extend option is grayed out.
But, don’t de depressed! If you cannot extend your partition in the built-in Disk Management, you also can try some partition resizing tools to help you out, like GParted, IM-Magic Partition Resizer Free and EaseUS Partition Master, etc.
Most importantly, no matter which one you choose to use, you’ d better back up everything important well in case of data loss.

  • Daniel_k we need microphone effects in windows 7 please

Hi please we need new driver support EAX Console & Microphone like Concert Hall effects in windows 7
    Karaoke_feature1.jpg
my sound Card is creative Audigy SE SB0570
please if u can just add EAX Console & karaoke .
i try driver SB Audigy Series recompiled Install u made Unofficial When I try to install a window installation says that the card is not supported
i just want EAX console & karaoke & mixer to set what u hear .... please please i wait u

    Heya
Im not 100% sure how Daniel is supposed to help you with this.
If he is an employee at Creative it mite be out of his control to add EAX Presets back into the creative control panel.
But speaking of which. I recently upgraded from my X-Fi Xtreme Gamer to a Z and I am extremely annoied that Creative decided to remove EAX presets like Jazz Club etc I really like the EQ but it would be better to have both and be able to use both at the same time.
I am still looking for alteritive software that will allow me to pick or set a effect that will give me the live sound for my music like Jazz Club
If these features your asking for where once there, use the last driver you had that had these features available
Uninstall your drivers this way to unsure that they are completely gone.
DOWNLOAD EVERYTHING FROM CREATIVE THAT YOU MAY NEED FOR YOUR SOUND CARD BEFORE UNINSTALLING, E.G WAVESTUDIO ETC
Close any programs that can make sound, even steam. (A message from a friend will play a unwanted sound when uninstalling the driver, part of the driver component will then be in use and may not be able to be removed) This is a Common cause of errors. Thats why it tells you to ensure every program is closed before installing and uninstalling.
Open Control Panel, Then At the top where its says View By click the small arrow pointing down on the right side of "View By" and select small icons, Then select Programs and Features,
Remove Everything that says Creative starting with Creative Control Panel,
    Before Restarting your Pc
Open Control Panel, Then Select Device Manager,
In Device Manager click the arrow pointing right on the left of "Sound Video and Game Controllers"
Then right click your Creative Sound card if its still there after uninstalling everything from the creative uninstaller.
If its still there Right click your sound card and select Uninstall. When the window pops up "TICK" the check box saying "Delete All The Software For This Device" "DO NOT PERFORM THIS STEP FIRST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Restart the computer and install the Original latest driver that had the funcions you desire.
I haven't proof read this to check for spelling mistakes so sorry if there is any lol

  • HT1338 Can I use windows xp on OS x mountain Lion?

Can I install Windows XP on OS X Mountain Lion?

Installing WinXP on Lion or above without BootCamp
It is possible to install WinXP onto Lion or Mountain Lion.  Bootcamp does not work thanks to Apple removing support, but the important drivers you need can be found on the net (details below – but the drivers you need will depend on your hardware). WinXP when installed will display at a low resolution on your screen but with the drivers you can fix that and get Wifi connectivity.
When I did it, by far the most time consuming part was to get my XP upgraded to SP3.  The solution to one nasty problem with SP3 upgrade is given below.
    PREPARATION
Obtain the following files using your browser in OSX before attempting WinXP install.
    1.  Service Pack 3 file (if your WinXP is Service Pack 2).  Obtain from http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=24
If the file has moved to a different page search on Microsoft's site for it.
(Note: I downloaded the SP3 driver written as a CD disk ISO image and used the FreeISOBurner software to make a CD from which I could make the install.)
    2.  Search and find drivers for the Intel graphics of your Macbook Pro
(search for  'Intel® HD Graphics Driver for Windows XP')
    3.  Find drivers for WIFI.  Mid 2011 MBP uses Broadcom. BCM43xx
    Wiki drivers site has them.
    4.  Make sure you have Win XP installation CD and the 25 character licence key.
Give yourself some time without too many urgent deadlines etc.
    PART A
Partition your hard disk in OSX using Disk Utility.  One should be FAT32 format and set to your size needs for Windows XP.
Restart computer and hold down C key to boot from Windows XP installation CD
Install WinXP following instructions.  At least one restart required.  Hold down option key when power is down to select the windows drive for booting
Once finished WinXP set up, restart and boot into OSX pressing and holding the option key when power is down.
    PART B
From OSX, open a finder window and locate the Windows drive
Open the folder 'Windows Drive'\Documents and Settings\'Your windows account name'\Desktop
Transfer the files you will need from your OSX into the Windows desktop
    Service pack 3
    Intel Graphics Drivers
    Wifi Drivers
(Note.  This is where it helps to use FAT32 format for Windows.  If you choose to format using NTFS when installing Windows then OSX can read but not write to that drive.  If you use NTFS you will need to transer the files to FAT32 formatted memory stick or CD)
    PART C
Reboot the computer into Win XP by holding down option key when restarting
Install the Intel graphics drivers.  Reboot to XP
Install the Wifi drivers.  Reboot to XP
Have a go at bringing your XP up to date.  This can be a long task depending on which version of installation disk you own: XP, XP with SP1, XP with SP2 or XP with SP3.  In my case I started from XP SP2.  Unfortunately the Windows Update mechanism in the XP SP2 system is now blocked by Microsoft so you can't update using the web.  This is where you need the SP3 installation.
    There are many possible headaches:
One error message is 'Setup requires a minimum of 4 additional megabytes of free space' when running the SP3 installation.  If this is the case then go to this page:
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_other-windows_update/er ror-there-is-not-enough-disk-space-on/3109444d-2249-4e66-973c-bd662635dc77
It appears that the BootDir register is not set during some installations (mine included).  Follow the clear instructions from David Mitchell to fix the registers (Thanks David!)
    PART D
Once you have Win XP SP3 going then you're Wifi should work and you should be able to complete the update process using the Windows update mechanism.  You can then find other drivers you may need such as LAN drivers etc.

  • [SOLVED] Can't boot Windows 8 using grub2. invalid EFI file path

English is not my native language. Please excuse typing errors.
I have just successfully installed Arch linux with grub2 as its boot manager. I
followed the arch beginner guide. I've used grub before and I'm familiar with
it, so chose to use grub instead for efistub. I installed os-prober and
ran grub-mkconfig to create the grub.cfg file. The problem now is that I recieve
an error when I try to boot windows 8. I have two drives (/dev/sda and /dev/sdb)
and I believe both are EFI-systems.
However, it's not very important for me to use grub, so if booting into windows
8 is easier using efistub, I will try that.
The computer is ASUS ux32vd with a hybrid disk with 25GB on the SSD and 500GB on
the hard drive. I believe the SSD part is used by Windows.
This is the first error I recieved when I tried to boot windows.
    error: can't find command `drivemap'.
    error: invalid EFI file path.

Then I tried to follow this post
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=150183 and made a new boot
entry "Windows 82". And I got a new error:
    error: unspecified search type.
    error: file '/EFI/Microsoft/Boot/bootmgfw.efi' not found
    Press any key to continue...
Here are some command line outputs.

I gave up trying to make grub work, so I uninstalled grub and deleted all the grub files I could find.
    # pacrem grub-efi-x86_64
    # rm -fr /boot/grub
That last one I came to regret later on. So I installed rEFInd using the archlinux beginners guide. When I then tried to boot into windows It told me that /boot/grub/x86_64-efi/normal.mod was not found. I then reinstalled grub-efi-x86_64 and copied /usr/lib/grub/x86_64 to /boot/grub. Now everything works fine.

The EFI stub loader is a Linux-only boot loader; however, it is possible to use the EFI stub loader in conjunction with a separate boot manager, such as rEFInd or gummiboot. In such a configuration, you'd use the boot manager to select the OS to boot (Windows or Linux, and possibly the specific Linux kernel), and the boot loader (the Windows loader or the EFI stub loader built into a specific kernel) will then take over booting the OS. In Arch, this is often easier to configure than is GRUB, since GRUB is very complex and its automated tools to help with setting things up often get it wrong.
This is the first error I recieved when I tried to boot windows.
    error: can't find command `drivemap'.
    error: invalid EFI file path.
    Press any key to continue...
The "drivemap" command in GRUB is generally used when booting a BIOS-mode boot loader, and in fact your "Windows Recovery Environment (loader) (on /dev/sda2)" and "Windows 8 (loader) (on /dev/sda4)" GRUB entries are both built as for BIOS-mode Windows installations -- but the fact that your disks both use GPT means that Windows won't boot in BIOS mode on your computer. (This is one of the many things that the GRUB setup scripts can get wrong.)
Then I tried to follow this post
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=150183 and made a new boot
entry "Windows 82". And I got a new error:
    error: unspecified search type.
    error: file '/EFI/Microsoft/Boot/bootmgfw.efi' not found
    Press any key to continue...
Both your "Windows 8" and "Windows 82" entries refer to an EFI boot loader file called EFI/Microsoft/Boot/bootmgfw.efi on your EFI System Partition (ESP). This should be correct, but your Boot Info Script output doesn't show any evidence of such a file. Sometimes Boot Info Script misses such things, so you may want to check it just to be sure. Your ESP is /dev/sda1, and it looks like it's being mounted at /boot/efi by default, so check for the /boot/efi/EFI/Microsoft directory tree, and for /boot/efi/EFI/Microsoft/Boot/bootmgfw.efi in particular. If that file isn't present, then something is wrong -- perhaps you mistakenly erased the ESP when you installed Linux, thus wiping out the Windows boot loader; or perhaps the file was accidentally deleted somewhere along the way. (Note that on FAT, which the ESP uses, case is irrelevant, and in fact case varies between the filenames reported by Boot Info Script and what's recorded in your configuration files.)
You do have another boot loader file that may be a duplicate of the Windows boot loader: EFI/BOOT/bkpbootx64.efi. This filename is generally created by Ubuntu's "Boot Repair" tool, which IMHO can do as much harm as good, especially on a system that's not booting Ubuntu. If you ran this tool, though, it's conceivable that bkpbootx64.efi is a copy of the Windows boot loader, so copying it to EFI/Microsoft/Boot/bootmgfw.efi might get things working. OTOH, the Windows boot loader relies on other files to do its job, so if they're not present, copying the Windows boot loader to its original location won't be sufficient.
If you can't get things working based on the preceding suggestions, I recommend you run a Windows repair tool. These are accessible from a Windows recovery disc. Such disc images are readily available on the Internet, but I don't happen to have any links handy. Try Microsoft's own site; images obtained from random third-party sites might contain malware. Once you've done this, chances are the computer will boot directly into Windows. You'll then need to either restore GRUB as the default boot loader or install another boot loader or boot manager.  You can use the Windows "bcdedit" command to do the former, as in:
    bcdedit /set {bootmgr} path \EFI\arch-grub\grubx64.efi
You'll need to type this from an Administrator Command Prompt window.

    There are several possibilities.
    1. You do not have contiguous free disk space.
    2. BCA has failed, or you may have a Fusion drive which is causing problems.
    3. You have incorrect permissions on the disk.
