Can Envy K203TX recovery disks be used to recover an Envy K204TX?

Hi, The first thing i did when i got my Envy K203TX notebook, was create a set of recovery disks. Then I discovered that the notebook has several issues.HP sent me an on-site tech, and the tech said these issues were caused by several faulty hardware (display panel, motherboard, and the case has a bad battery lock). He helped me return the notebook as DOA. The problem is, HP store couldn't get me another K203TX, I paid like $150 more and upgraded to an Envy K204 TX. I now have the 204TX and this notebook has no issues at all, it's as good as it can get.My recovery disk set from the Envy K203TX is still with me. Question> Can I use these disks to recover my K204TX in case disaster strikes? Or shall I throw away these disks and create a fresh set of recovery disks for this computer?

  • Can I create recovery disks using my laptop HD as external drive?

My Thinkpad T420 hard drive crashed in a really bad way. I can't load windows (7) and windows repair says it can't help me. I removed my hard drive and put it in a usb enclosure and connected it to a different pc. I can see the recovery folder/drive and my data drive as two different drives in "my computer". What I'm trying to figure out is if there's a way I can create the Win7 recovery discs this way, through what is now an external hard drive. The backup PC I'm using is XP, but I can get another Win7 PC if that makes a difference.
    TIA!

    @Phil18...
I'll offer a few more thoughts.
The recovery partition you're seeing is meant to be accessed by software in the OS partition to enable creation of a Recovery DVD set, or, through a boot-interruption sequence to enable a direct-to-disk recovery of the OS partition. Since you mention that the drive has "crashed in a really bad way", I'm presuming that it doesn't boot any longer.
In this case, my recommendation to you is to contact Service and discuss obtaining a Factory Recovery Disk Set. There may or may not be a charge for this. Contact information is below. Once you have the set, along with a new drive, you'll easily be able to build up the new drive to the factory out-of-box state.

Download a copy of Hiren's Boot at Hirensbootcd.org, there is some really good programs in there, use the disk recovery stuffs like government issue or something. I was just messin around with it on a disk I had formatted previously and it brought up all the files that were on it. It may or may not help with all the problems your having but you will love the software belive me. Good luck.

  • NB100-125 - Can i copy recovery Disk to USB?

    Hi Everyone!
First, sorry for my bad English.
I have a Toshiba NB100-125 which came with installed Perfect Windows XP Home. Everything well, but I decided to install Windows 7 on it.
Ok, it ran on it, but I think it was a little bit heavier than the XP, so I decided to go back to XP...
    And here's the interesting part:
I haven't even seen an external CD/DVD, so I wont be able to do it with the recovery disk.
I tried to copy the files from the recovery disk to an USB flash drive, but it didnt booted from it :(
Tried about 10 different methods, and nothing worked, didnt want to boot from the flash...
Please help me, I cant find an external CD/DVD and I want to reinstall XP on it using the original Recovery Disk which came with it

    Hi
In my opinion this will not function.
Of course you can boot from USB flash drive but I think you cannot copy simple the files from a Windows XP disk to USB flash drive and then boot from it
    But you can do this:
You can create a bootable USB flash drive using WinPE or BartPE.
Then you could boot the NB100 using the USB flash drive.
Then copy i386 folder from Win XP disk to HDD.
Finally go to i386 folder and start the Windows XP setup using the command winnt.exe
    Cheers

  • L305D-S5934 Has formatted hard drive, can I load recovery disk from a different machine?

    Hi,
I have an older L305D (can't remember the sub group model, but it does not have the web cam).  The LCD screen went out so I bought a L305D-S5934 with a formatted hard drive.  I swapped my old hard drive into the new computer, but it will not boot up.  It tried to recover, but that failed.  Can I make a recovery disk with my old computer to use in the new one, even though they are different sub models?  The new computer has a Windows license on it.  If I can't make a recovery disk with the old one that will work, can I get a copy of Vista Home and use the license on the new computer to install it or does the license only work with the recovery disks?  Once I have an operating system installed, I know I can get the right drivers from this website.  Any help/ideas would be appreciated!  I would rather not have to buy a recovery disk through Toshiba if I can avoid it.

The OEM key won't work with a retail version of Windows. (And with the recovery discs it's unnecessary, because that one is pre-activated.)
The recovery media from Toshiba costs less than the product key for the retail installation DVD. And you don't need to mess around adding drivers and utilities.

  • Can't create recovery disks!

Just purchased the Satellite L505D-LS5007. Read all over the place where it was a good idea to make recovery disks for the computer. Once I got it out of the bow, up and running, I located the Recovery Media Creator, pulled out some blank DVD/R's (Sony) and put one in. After a few seconds, the following message pops up:
The following issue has occurred while recording date to the media.
    The curent process was stopped.
A power calibration area error occurred.
Please check if the media is scratched or dirty.
If so, please try again with new media.
    (Error Code: 0E01B5-26-2A037303)
Every new blank DVD/R I put in does the same thing!!! Any ideas would help!!

it only seems to be when making the recovery media. i would just try another brand of dvds or take it back and exchange it for another laptop. just tell them the recovery partitions seem to be messed up and they will either exchange it or try to make it for you.

  • Can't install - my disk is used for Time Machine backups

I only have one hard disk. And it has Time Machine turned on. Mountain Lion won't let me install on this disk, saying
"This disk is used for Time Machine backups"
I'm ASSUMING this means that I cannot install ML on a Time Machine disk.
    Is this right?
So, do I turn off Time Machine to get ML to install?

    I deleted Backups.backupdb.
Now, the ML installer says simply "OS X cannot be installed on <my drive>"
    What the ???

  • NB200-10Z: Can't make recovery disk using TOSHIBA Recovery Disc Creator

    Hi Folks,
I finally got round to buying a USB DVD drive in order to create recovery discs for my NB200-10Z. I got the following:
    * Samsung SE-S084C, External USB 2.0 Slimline 8X DVD Writer, Black
I have twice tried to create a recovery disc and am now left with two trashed DVDs. The error codes in the error window are:
    Error Code: 0E01B5-26-2A040803
    Error code: 02016F-3C-00000000
The first time the burning was stopped, the second time the verify failed.
Can anyone shed light on this?

    *Short version:*
Thank you to everybody who replied.
I decided to try out the USB DVD drive on another laptop to perform a HDD backup operation...and it failed as well. Grrrr. Same DVD media (I just hadn't got round to getting new media to try).
I think I shall discount the possiblility of the NB200 being at fault, and therefore shall consider this question answered on this forum.
    *Long version:*
Well, I ended up using Virtual CD to "burn" an ISO file to HDD, and then copied that to another laptop to burn to DVD (not using the USB DVD drive, but the same DVD media type). Being the curious type I decided to perform a restore using the USB DVD drive. It got part way through installation then informs me that a CRC check had failed...argggg.
So, to cut a long story even shorter, I ended up slipstreaming the Intel storage drivers into a Win XP ISO (created from a Win XP CD I had from another previous laptop) and creating a bootable USB drive. Now I have a clean install with all the NB200 driver installed. Phew.
Actually, to think a bit more about it, I could have attempted to put the Toshiba recovery ISO onto the bootable USB drive, but I've done the clean install now anyway.
For whatever reason, I had such trouble getting the NB200 BIOS to recognise the USB DVD drive in order to change the boot order (it wasn't in the option list). This was with the DVD in the tray, and without the DVD in the tray. Some investigation required on my part, I think, to determine exactly what is going on.

When I had problems creating recovery media for my T60p I called Lenovo to ask for assistance. After giving the CSR a description of the errors I was encountering and what I tried to do about them, he decided it would be easier for both of us if Lenovo sent me a set of media. YMMV.

  • Selling 2006 MBP - can I re-init disk and use Snow Leopard?

    Hi, folks -
We'll, with less than a day to go it looks as if I've sold my MBP (January 2006). Now I have to wipe the HD and there's the rub...
...I can't find the 'original' DVD that came with it.
What I'd like to know is this: I bought Snow Leopard (DVD) and I'm wondering if I could use Disk Utility on it to securely erase my internal HD and then just install Snow Leopard on the 'blank' HD?
Sorry I've waited so long to ask this question - I want to ship it out Thursday to the highest bidder. I'll also include the Snow Lion disk, of course (it still even has the stickers inside).
    Thanks for any expedited answers!
    Clinton

I found the two disks that came with my MBP in 2006 - was able to install all the goodies, after I had already installed Snow Leopard: iPhoto, iMovie, etc., and they were all updated (although not to iLife '11, I don't think).
Thanks for the help and advice.

    An unexpected error occurred.

    (error code:0D00F6-26-00000015)

note: I had the same problem with the poweriso program
    my lap is a A300-211

    Hi mate,
Can you please tell us what happens if you uninstall ultraiso program? To be honest ths program isnt known to me, I never heard about this.
    Then try it again please.
In worst case you have to start the HDD recovery option to reinstall Windows. Then you should be able to create the recovery media. For HDD recovery procedure I have founded this:
