Can EWM be implemented with ERP systems ?

Experts,
I am confused about implementing the EWM with ERP or SCM .I saw in a SAP website that the training for EWM requires the ERP and SCM both platforms .I don't understand this. Even for the certification in ERP (P_LEWM_64) , it includes the EWM functionality.Does this mean that even on ERP , can we implement the EWM ?
Please share your thoughts

This forum will move to the New SCN as part of our migration to a new platform. Once we make that move, on December 5, it will become a read-only discussion. It will be searchable but will not be part of the site navigation.  If you have questions, please contact me, [Gali Kling Schneider |http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/bc?u=6v4sgatytpg%3d].

    Dear Dr. Word,
I am a graduate student of MIS at Northern Illinois University. I took Dr. Yipeng Liu’s course of Advanced Topic of Information Systems using your textbook - Integrated Business Process With ERP Systems. Your textbook is great. I have a question to discuss with you.
On page 62 of your textbook, I don’t think the accounting process of purchasing supplies is correct. In the example, “GBI purchases office supplies for $500 with a check. Office supplies are expensed; that is, they are defined as money spent rather than treated as an asset upon purchase, even if some of the supplies remain unused. In this case, the relevant accounts are bank and supplies expense.”
Actually, supplies unused are assets of companies. Otherwise we don’t need an account called supplies at all. In the given example, I think we should credit $500 to bank account and debit $500 to supplies account. If at the end of the fiscal year, we used only $300 supplies, then we credit $300 to supplies account and debit $300 to supplies expense account. This is the typical process of supplies accounting.
“Office supplies are expensed; that is, they are defined as money spent rather than treated as an asset upon purchase, even if some of the supplies remain unused. “ This practice actually goes against the Matching Principle of General Acceptable Accounting Principles (GAAP). It’s not a good example especially in textbook, even though lots of companies are doing real business like this.
I am looking forward to hearing your thoughts of my comments on supplies accounting of your textbook.

  • MDM Integration with ERP system

    Hello MDM Guru's.
In our system Landscape, use Baan ERP system to fetch data into MDM, cleanse it and push data to SRM/BI system for Business Requirements.
Our MDM is neither connected to any R/3 (ECC) system. we want to have a kind of Reports developed for MDM Data present in our system based on Companies (our Manufacturing sites) and have a automatic mapping of our Manufacturers , Suppliers & Customers based on Global and local Stratergy.
According to my understanding, we can use MDM API's (ABAP or Java). As MDM is not integrated with any of the ERP (ECC or Netweaver Data base)?
We have options to integrate MDM with ECC 6.0 & Netweaver system. Which could be a better option to connect with? we are planning to integrate MDM with E-Portal too, could Portal data base be used.
    Please guide me.
    Thanks in advance
    Cheers
    MSR

    Hi Srihari,
If you want to use MDM in you landscape and store and cleanse data in it and then sent the cleansed data to a reporting tool for analysis then you can do it in one of the methods:
    - Either connect MDM to the other systems in your landscape using XI as the means of data trnasfer
    - Or connect MDM to other systems using the API.
In the first method.you need to use PI/XI to manage the flow of master data to and from your MDM system to others. MDM can be used for data cleansing and enrichment within MDM before syndicating it out.
In the second method you can connect to MDM through other systems using the API.
As you mentioned about reporting on the master data in MDM based on the Companies or manufacturing sites etc.You can achieve this suing MDM ABAP API.
ABAP can be sued as a reporting tool.wherein it will connect to your MDM system through the configured API and fetch the MDM data and generate simple reports .
If you wish to access the MDM data online you can use portal front end. but in this case portal wont be capable to store any information as it is just a front  end.
You will have to use MDM as a backend storage system.JAVA API can be used for futher customization on EP.
For ABAP API use you can refer the below link:

  • ChaRM implementation with virtual systems

    Hello Gurus,
We have successfully installed and done basic settings for Solution Manager 7.0 EHP1 system, we are planning to implement ChaRM and I have already downloaded the guide for it.
But I have few doubts regarding its setup like since we don't have DEV, QAS and PRD setup yet, so is it possible to configure ChaRM right now?? maybe with virtual systems ??
Will it be better to configure ChaRM only after DEV installation ?
Also, I am not clear about the transports which will be done from Solution manager using ChaRM, is it like you create transport request from Solman or from DEV ??
Thanks for providing any valuable information !!
    Cheers !!

  • SAP NetWeaver Application Server ABAP & SAP Business Warehouse 7.4 SP8 on SAP HANA with ERP-System

    Hello,
I have a running Instance of SAP NetWeaver Application Server ABAP & SAP Business Warehouse 7.4 SP8 on SAP HANA 1.0 SP8.
Here I have the minisap Licence of A4H.
When I get the Licence of ERP - do I have a fully ERP System on HANA ?
Or do I need a new Instance?

    Hi Julia,
even if you or your company have an SAP license for ERP, you are legally not allowed to install the license key into the free offering it because you have accepted the terms and conditions of the trial/developer version.
If you want to use your own licenses, you would need to switch to the BYOL model where you bring in the license. For that you would need to purchase the SAP Cloud Appliance Library subscription. You get more details here (CAL FAQ - Business related questions ). To purchase the SAP Cloud Appliance Library subscription you would need to select the "Unlock full library" link on the top right corner of the Subscriptions screen on http://cal.sap.com.

  • How can AII/OER communicate with ERP if both are in same system ?

I have an ERP 6 EHP7  system with SAP AII/OER.   How can ERP communicate with AII/OER ?  Is PI/XI still required ?

    Hi @Denise Carew,
One of the deployment options for SAP AII is that it can be installed as an add-on on the SAP ECC system. Not sure if deploying OER on the same box as SAP ECC has been an SAP approved/suggested deployment.
When you say "I have an ERP 6 EHP7  system with SAP AII/OER" does that mean you have SAP AII component and SAP EM component installed at two different stages or has OER(AII+EM) been purposefully installed on SAP to be used as your enterprise repository?
When AII is installed as an add-on to SAP ECC it will have access to the master data (like Product/Material master, corresponding GTINs, etc). There is no need to communicate this master data.
But if you need to use "Secure Track and Trace" scenario in SAP OER then SAP PI is a mandatory software component. (Please refer to SAP AII 7.1 Master Guide section 2.4,Software Component Matrix, and other follow-on sections that explains this).
    Regards,
    Bharat Vaka.

  • Can more than one SAP ERP system connect to the same PI system?

    HI Experts
Well i am new to SAP Process Integration 7.1 and i have managed to point PI system to SAP DEV ERP , but i also want to add these other 2 systems SAP QAS ERP and SAP PRD ERP Using RFC Adapter. So is it possible to integrate SAP QAS and SAP PRD  ERP into the same PI system that is pointing to SAP DEV ERP. If possible what are the configuration steps that i should follow?.
This project implementation is based on SAP MDM 7.1/ SAP PI 7.1/ ECC EHP6.

    Hi Farai,
Technically this is possible. But don't forget that all systems are then using the same ESR and ID. So changes on PI are also influencing ERP QAS and PRD. I don't recommend this. At least you should have 2 stages for PI: Development and QAS/PRD.
You just need to maintain 2 connections in ERP: ESR connection and RFC connection. For using the interfaces in PI for all 3 stages you need to create 3 different configurations in Integration Builder of PI.

  • Can polymorphism be implemented with the GOOP toolkit? And has anyone experimented with ObjectVIEW? How does it compare to the GOOP toolkit?

    Hi Jeff,
I'm not sure if it's a web site oddity, but I can no longer download the document that you've linked to in this thread.
I had one question for you about this book.  I have the "Preliminary Edition" now that students will be buying for my class this semester.  It is 6 chapters long.  I know additional chapters are in the pipeline and will be distributed electronically.  Can you give us a heads up on what the topic of those chapters will be?  I'm not seeing that in any of the generally distributed literature I have about this book.
    Thanks!

And that position your institution to attract and retain the best academic talent – and maximum funding. SAP is dedicated to building better institutions by helping you achieve the following objectives:
Reducing university administrative costs through efficient management – SAP solutions support all processes from front office to back office – including those involving prospects, students, and alumni, as well as financials, operations, procurement, human capital management, reporting, and analytics. Support for integrated workflow results in fast, organized, and productive management processes across the campus and research community.
Unifying students, faculty and staff with information and processes – Many higher education and research organizations spend the bulk of their IT budgets on maintaining existing infrastructure and integrating heterogeneous systems, leaving few resources for innovation. In contrast, the SAP NetWeaver platform integrates your students, faculty, and staff with information and business processes while reducing complexity and cost.
Meeting compliance and governance requirements – SAP allows you to meet demands for accountability and financial transparency with executive dashboards, alerting and reporting, security and identity management, content and records management, and workflow and business-process management. Deploying a common platform helps you meet risk mitigation objectives and comply with directives, such as SEVIS and OMB Circular A-21.
Promoting a relationship-focused mind-set with constituents – SAP solutions help you improve the efficiency of communications with various stakeholders and foster a focus on your constituents, such as students, faculty, alumni, and suppliers. In today's competitive academic environment, organizations must differentiate themselves by providing personalized, timely, and easily accessed information.
