Can Express extend the range of a wired router

Airport Express box reads "can extend the range only of an Airport Extreme or Airport Express wireless network". My daughter is moving into a college-town house that has (I think from the cable company) a 6 port wired router that sends a wall outlet ethernet connection to 6 rooms. If I don't or can't replace the router can I use the Airport Express and plug it near one of the 6 ethernet jacks? Can I use a Linksys Wireless Access Point device, or, is it like the Geek Squad wannabe salesman at Best Buy said, "It will be very hard for your daughter to configure this. You have to have the right settings".

Like I said it can be done, I would probably change there Router to a Multiport wireless router, and change it out.
There are several different options. you just need to decide what you want to do.
If you feel uncomfortable about doing it yourself, Get a hold of your friend that is a wizard and have him do it. It really is not that tough. but if you are not comfortable, or not sure what and how then leave it.
I can't believe it isn't already wireless.

How can I extend the range of my chart?

I've asked this question before on here, and found that shift-clicking for more cells has usually worked, but I have now run into a new problem...
My chart used to cover the range B5:P50. However, since moving a column it now only covers the cell range H5:P50. My chart is on a separate sheet. Usually if I want to add more to the range it will be downwards, so I just click on the chart, then click on the Main Sheet and shift-click to add more cells. Unfortunately, because the range I want is to the left of the highlighted area this time, I can't use shift-click.
How can I extend the range of my chart so it includes cells to the left of the currently selected range? In Excel I'd be able to just type the range in a box somewhere, rather than all this GUI-based clicking and dragging which is actually more difficult! Is there somewhere I can just type the range in that I want?

Here's a two step process to do that:
Select the chart to show the the data selection on the associated chart.
Click in the leftmost column of the data, and drag left to change (move) the selection (blue arrow) for the result below:
Grab the control handle (small circle) at the bottom right corner of the selection, and drag right, as indicated by the blue arrow.
Result shown below.
Reassign colours and do other formatting as desired.

Can I extend the range of my Time Capsule with an Airport Express?

I have read on Apple's description of the Airport Express that it is possible to extend the range of an existing network. I have the OLDER version of the Time Capsule (it is still wireless-N but it can only broadcast EITHER 2.4 or 5 gHZ at a given time) that does not have the simultaneous broadcasting. Can I still use the Airport Express to extend the range of my Time Capsule network?

i think you have the same concern as mine....
would the express extend the n or g networks? i am pretty sure it cant dual broadcast.....
my guess is that it would extend the n network by default, but if an iphone hooks up to the part of the network that the express is covering, it will probably slow down to a g speed.
i am one of those that suffer from my existing airport extreme and express slowing down when i turn on my ipod touch or iphone! the whole network slows down to the lowest common denominator.
by getting the new time capsule (or the new airport extreme), i will be fine in the part of the house that is being served by the new machines, but i am expecting the network to slow down where the express is in incharge!
this is all in preparation to buy a new TC...... is my understanding correct?

Can I extend the range of my Airport Extreme with 2 Airport Express units?

I am using Airport Extreme as my basic router. I have connected 2 airport express units (all new since 12/09) to extend the network about 300 ft into another building to a PC. I am receiving about 65% signal and only one of the express units is extending the signal. Previously I was able to extend the network with a Netgear router and one D-Link extender and achieved 85%.
I would like to use the 2nd express to extend the signal of the 1st express which is extending the Extreme.
If this is not possible, can I use something other than an express with the extreme to extend the wireless network?

Here are the basic steps in setting up a static WDS. Please compare them to what you have done to see if there are any differences. Hopefully, this will give you a clue on what to try.
AEBSn - WDS Setup
(Note: To facilitate the WDS set up, place the base stations within near proximity of each other during the set up phase, and then relocate them to their desired locations when complete. Also, jot down the AirPort IDs (MAC addresses) for each of the base stations to be used in the WDS. The AirPort ID and is printed on the label on the bottom/side of the base station.)
Main Base Station Setup
o Click the AirPort status menu in the menu bar and choose the wireless network created by the base station you want to set up as the main base station.
o Open AirPort Utility (located in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder on a Macintosh computer, or in Start > All Programs > AirPort on a computer using Windows).
o Select the main base station, and choose Manual Setup from the Base
Station menu, or double-click the base station to open the configuration in a separate window.
o Enter the base station password if necessary. If the base station is using the
default password of public, you will not be prompted for a password.
o Click Wireless in the toolbar, and then choose “Participate in a WDS network” from the Wireless Mode pop-up menu.
o Click WDS and then choose “WDS main” from the WDS Mode pop-up menu.
o Select the “Allow wireless clients” checkbox if you want client computer to connect to this base station.
o Click the Add "+" button and enter the AirPort ID of the base station you want to connect to this base station.
o Click Update to send the new settings to the base stations in the WDS.
Remote Base Station Setup
o Click the AirPort status menu in the menu bar and choose the wireless network created by the base station you want to set up as a remote base station.

Can I extend the range with an Airport Extreme?

Hi there,
Is it possible to extend a wireless network's range with an Airport Extreme (just like you can do with an Airport Express)? Currently I have a Billion wireless modem/router but need to extend the range so I can use my PS3 in my bedroom. I would rather get an Airport Extreme instead of an Express so I can take it with me when I move out. Just need to know if the Extreme will do this as it doesn't mention it on the website.

The AirPort Express, AirPort Extreme, and even the Time Capsule can "extend a wireless network", +but... they are only compatible if you have another Apple router as the main device.+
Sorry, but none of the Apple products would be compatible to extend the range of your Billion wireless router using wireless only. You might want to check to see if Billion has a "range extender" or similar compatible device.

I have a Time Capsule (which the HD *****, but that is matter for another discussion) and want to extend the range with an Airport Extreme because I have 2 devices in one room that do not do wireless but have Ethernet ports.
The room has iffy WiFy connectivity too.
I want to know if the 3 ports on the Airport Extreme still work after configuring it as an extender rather than a router.

The thing is that I want to know if I can put the Airport Extreme at the edge of the room where the existing Base does not reach.
This will not work.
Remember, an "extending" AirPort can only extend the quality of wireless signal that it receives. For that reason, it must be located where it can receive a strong wireless signal in order to work effectively.
For example, let's say that your "main" router was on one end of the house and you want to extend the signal to reach the other end of the house. In this case, you would locate the "extending" AirPort about half way between the main router and the other side of the house.

Not by wireless. The apple routers can act as repeaters only to another apple router.
You can use ethernet or homeplug (EOP adapter) to place the Airport in another location where you need wireless and set it up in bridge mode.
Or you can buy another airport.. a cheap second hand extreme is very possible.. plug that into the Verizon by ethernet and extend with the second apple wireless.. but nope.. you cannot do it directly.

Yes, if you plan to connect the AirPort Express to the D-Link router permanently using an Ethernet cable.
No, if you plan to have the AirPort Express connect wirelessly to the D-Link router.

Will airport express extend the range of our wifi?

We have wifi through Comcast in our home. The range, however, is at about 20 yds. I exchanged the router that was supplied (monthly rental from) from Comcast without any change. We have an Airport Express device, 802.11n, purchased in the last year in an effor to improve this, but was never connected as the instructions are beyond me. I just tried to research it again, and I don't have a clue if it will help, and how to hook it up. Help!

An Apple AirPort Base Station can only "wirelessly extend" a wireless network created by another Apple AirPort Base Station.
You can add the Express to your network as an additional wireless access point, as long as you connect it directly to the Comcast router with an Ethernet cable.

The AirPort Utility screenshots are outdated, but the wiring information shows the general arrangement you would require.
Otherwise, you would need to purchase an additional Apple AirPort Base Station, connect it to the Comcast router, and use your Express to "wirelessly extend" the wireless network created by the new Apple AirPort.

Why doesn't the Express extend the range of my Linksys WiFi?

Bought An Airport Express to expand the range of my WiFi to the backyard, set it up as an addition to my Linksys WiFi coming from a cable modem. Everything looked good on paper & the laptop said everything was synced and there was a green solid dot on the Express itself, yet in my backyard, my iTouch couldn't find it. I put the Express in the window (open) to the backyard and sat in a chair right under it. Does anyone have the answer? It would be greatly appreciated.

Apple's "extend a wireless network" function is a proprietary feature among Apple products.
Both your main router and the extending device must be Apple "n" devices for this feature to work. Unfortunately, it will not work with other manufacturer's products. See footnote 2 on this Apple spec sheet to verify:

Chances are, you likely configured the Express to "join" the Linksys network, which it can do.
But, the Express does not provide any additional wireless coverage when it "joins". This setting is used to attach a remote printer to the Express or use the AirTunes feature by connecting powered speakers to the audio jack on the Express.

Equipment: AirPort Extreme and two Airport Expresses (all are N)
We live in a long house and the AirPort Extreme sits on one end with the cable modem and I'd like to place two AirPort Expresses in the middle and other end of the house so we can get wireless.
I've tried WDS and extended and I can't get them to configure! What can I do? I'm out of ideas and time spend trying to set up an extender!!

Here is the basic steps to do so:

o Click Wireless in the toolbar, and then choose “Participate in a WDS network” from the Wireless Mode pop-up menu. (Note: You may have to hold down the Option key before clicking the menu for this option to appear on the 802.11n models.)

How can I extend the range of my WESTELL 7500? Please help.

I installed a security camera outsite of my house and unfortunately the modem/router is on the opposite end. The camera would connect on and off as opposed to on all the time when it was mounted inside.
I am researching around and it looks like I can get an extender? Are there certain ones to look for in terms of compatibility issues?
Or can I upgrade the modem/router? The Westell 7500 was provided by Verizon at start of service.

Cable modem. Properly working Apt Extreme router (g), but inadequate range to upstairs home office. I want to entend with an Apt Express and have a networked USB printer working off the Express unit placed in my office. Mac mini running Lion can't/won't find the Express.

If you were able to access the AX using the AirPort Utility but your PC is still not able to connect. I would try performing a "factory default" reset on the AX to see if that helps before going to the store. This type of reset will put the AX back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration which would broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a network name of something like: Apple Network NNNNNN. If your PC still cannot "see" or connect to this network, then a visit to the store would be in order.

TC / FiOS - Can I extend the range?

OK, I have replace the router that is supplied from Verizon for ViOS with my new Time Capsule. Called Verizon, had them break the DHCP lease and reset. All is well.
Now what I would like to do, is 'bridge' the old Verizon router off the TC, for extended range. Can this be done? What steps would I need to take?

UPDATE:
I didn't (couldn't) disable the Verizon Routers DHCP Server. When I do, the computer trying to connect does not get an IP assigned. But I did get it working... My set up is as follows:
Once again, I disconnected the Verizon Router (Router2) from the ONT The I connected the Time Capsule (Router1) to the ONT via the WAN port. Called Verizon, and them break the DHCP lease and reset it, and the TC is up and running beautifully.
Next, I went out a LAN port on the TC and into the WAN port on the Verizon Router.
In essence, I have two separate wireless networks with this configuration, and I have to join one or the other to get to the internet. No big deal, since my 2 iMacs are close to the TC and are always joined to it. When the need arises to use the work laptop, I can join it to the Verizon router
