Can external keyboard be used?

My daughter spilled water on her keyboard last night. She cannot use the space key . Can an external keyboard be connected by USB ?

Yes, an external USB or Bluetooth keyboard and mouse can be used without problems.

  • Can External Definition be used or Receiver File content conversion (CSV)?

    Hi Experts,
I'm a newbie to SAP PI and I started working on file to File(FCC) scenario in which I am provided with the receiver structure as an External definition. The structure is like
    Name
    Place
    Designation
    Salary
    hike
Can I use the same structure (External Definition) for the receiver file content conversion or do I need to create another specific structure?
Can I convert the target CSV file to UTF-8 encoding?
    Please help.
    Regards,
    Taro

    Hi,
Can the above specified structure be used for receiver FCC? Does this work? Can this be converted to UTF-8?
If it can be used, how do we specify the parameters for FCC then as there's no root element?
    Regards,

  • Can anyone recommend a backlit keyboard to use with the Macbook Pro?

I like to hook my laptop up to a larger monitor and work that way while at home with an external keyboard hooked up by usb. I am using an older mac keyboard but its hard to see the keys if the room is not well lit. Can someone recommend a backlit external keyboard to use with the macbook pro that has a number pad? This seems really hard to find for some reason... Thanks!

Logitech makes a USB-powered backlit keyboard but it is for Windows PCs. You should check its Web site to see if it has a similar one for Macs.

  • External keyboard questions

I want to buy an external keyboard for use when I'm not traveling. I am considering the Apple Wireless Pro keyboard and would welcome any opinions about that one or any others (wireless OR wired) you like or dislike.
Another question is about mice/trackballs. I was told that the wireless keyboards (at least the Apple) don't have USB, so if that's the case then essentially one is compelled to make two purchases, correct (keyboard and input device)?
As regards the mouse or trackball, if their control software isn't Intel-native, any reason why it wouldn't work as well on MBP as on PPCs? I've used Kensington in the past but they are, in my view, non-committal about if they plan to spport the Intel Macs re their Mouseworks software. I wonder how important it is whether they do as regards the performance of Mouseworks, I'd love to hear about any wireless trackballs anyone likes.
    Thanks for all the help.

The Apple wireless keyboard works great for me. There are many others out there, I'd look at Logitech, Kensington, Belkin, Microsoft, roughly in that order. The most important thing is to try them out first to see which ones feel good to you.
I agree about the battery issue with mice - I use rechargeable wireless mice for that reason. Cost a bit more, but well worth it to avoid the hassle of replacing batteries.
This battery issue isn't really present with keyboards. The batteries on my wireless Apple keyboards last for a few months at least. The amount of throughput pumped out by a keyboard (and therefore the amount of battery energy needed) is much, much less than a mouse. Moving your mouse a few inches on the screen sends many, many (x,y) events to the computer. Probably a lot more information than it took for me to type this entire post.
On the mouse software issue, I've never installed the software for mice on my Mac. I used to avoid it unless absolutely necessary on my Windows machines as well. They usually cause more trouble than they are worth, if they work at all. I use my Logitech mouse with the standard mouse driver on MacOS, no problems. The only reason you might want MacOS software support is if the mouse has tons of extra buttons that you really want to map to various actions. I can map many of the buttons on my Logitech mouse with the MacOS preferences panels (e.g., map buttons to trigger Expose and the Dashboard), but I only use 3 of them (left, right, and the scrollwheel button).
Kensington makes the best trackballs in my opinion. I haven't used one in a long time, but I was always happy with them.

  • Pages - External Keyboard support or not?

I have spent many hours trying to establish if the current version of Numbers for the iPad supports navigation of the spreadsheet via the cursor keys on the external keyboard. There appears to be very limited support of moving the users focus with the keyboard requiring the user to double tap each cell they wish to insert or update information (which is a bit of a pain) If one of the Apple development team see this post can you please address the use of the external keyboard and using the cursor keys to move around the spreadsheet which will be immensely helpful. I noticed there isn't a export XLS function either.. please can you include this in the next release

You asking about Pages (word processor) or Numbers (spreadsheet)?
In pages, I've used the iPad for a month with the keyboard dock, and love it. There are some weird differences or things I wish I could do additional with keyboard shortcuts, but I haven't had a problem navigating in Pages at all using just the keyboard.
Now, Numbers, I haven't had a reason enough to buy it yet, so can't answer that.

  • Portg Z30-A-108 - Num lock does not work on external keyboard

    Hi,
We have a Portg Z30-A-108. We use it with external wireless keyboard and mouse. On the external keyboard is used, the num pad does not work (as if the "num lock" was off). I tried using the function key FN+F11 on the laptop but without any succes.
Does somebody had the same problem or any idea to solve it ?
    Thanks.
    Nicolas

    >On the external keyboard is used, the num pad does not work (as if the "num lock" was off)
You are talking about the external keyboard.
But from my knowledge the internal Portg Z30-A-108 keyboard does not contain the num pad. Possibly this is the reason why the Num Lock is turned off.
By the way: the NumLock can be enabled in the system registry.
Open Windows registry editor using the command regedit.
In the registry, go to the folders.
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ Control Panel\ Keyboard\
Within the keyboard folder, you should find a string value named "InitialKeyboardIndicators" with a value of 0, 1, or 2.
    Here the value meaning:
0 = Num Lock is turned OFF after the logon.
    1 = Disable Num Lock.
2 = Numlock is turned ON after the logon.

  • I need to reprogram the delete and enter key to the left side of a external keyboard for the ipad mini. don't need the caps/lock or ctrl key and due to an injury my daughter can only use her left hand to type. She is using a text to speech app to verbaliz

I need to reprogram the delete and enter key to the left side of a external keyboard for the ipad mini. I don't need the caps/lock or ctrl key. Due to a brain injury my daughter can only use her left hand to type. She also uses a text to speech app to verbalize all of her needs since her speech isn't intelligible any longer either. And her vision was significantly affected also, so the keyboard has to be mounted about 6 inches from her face. So to reach across the keyboard with her left hand to the right side delete and enter button is physically difficult and causes typing errors, which cause people to not understand what shes trying to say.
The best keyboard so far is the Zagg folio mini. I just had to make stickers to enlarge the letters on the key buttons.
Does anyone know how I can reprogram these two keys? Or where I can buy a wireless mini keyboard for Ipad made for lefthanders with these two functions on the left side. I have searched for days and days. It's sooooo important to me that she be able to contribute her voice again. Imagine if you got in a car accident and couldn't speak clearly any longer, but understood everything still. Thanks for any help and suggestions you all take the time to share with me. I really appreciate the kindness of strangers to help me help my daughter.

    You cannot.

  • HT201406 How can I use my external keyboard opposed to the internal key board on the screen.

I have a Zagg IPad, and the problem I'm having is the external keyboard that sits in the case will not work.  The internal keyboard on the screen is the only one that works.  How can I change the keyboard to work from the base instead of using the keyboard on the screen.

Have you ever paired them? If the keyboard and iPad have been paired, just turn the keyboard on, hit a key and give it a few seconds to power up and connect.
If you've never paired them then there should have been instructions with the keyboard to tell you how to do that.
If it just recently stopped working, you might try charging your keyboard.

  • Can I use my iPad as a laptop substitute with an external keyboard?

I'm sure this has been asked many times...
I've bought an external Apple bluetooth keyboard for my MacBook Pro
(I'm assuming that can use wth iPad?)
My work involves using a browser 95% of the time
I also do coding - PHP, Javascript and HTML
I can ediitng for these on a browser - but a dedicated app would be better
The external keyboard is really important - for serious keyboard typing, the screen isnt good
    Just looking for some opinions
    Thanks

I can second Michael in recommending Textastic if you're just looking for a regular text editor. Textastic has a lot of nice features. If you're looking for a web development editor, check out Diet Coda. It has built-in SSH terminal to which you can import an SSH key for password-less access, SFTP, and a great text editor. • Can I use my ibook as the external keyboard for my Mac Mini?

Using a firewire to connect the two units. Or do I need to buy a separate keyboard to use with the Mini?
Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

It seems to me that while you CAN connect the mini to your iBook with FW (or ethernet) and run the mini from the iBook's keyboard and display, the performance of the combined system will be the poorest common factor between processor speed and data transfer speeds. In other words, while you will be able to run the mini and it's software, the combined iBook/mini system not going to perform all that well, and aside from possibly giving you access to software your iBook wouldn't be able to run (depending on what processor, speed and RAM it has), using a mini that way is typically not all that cost-effective.
Keyboards are cheap (I bought a $29.95 wireless USB keyboard/mouse combo from WalMart to use with mine at home), and a display need not cost much at all if you don't already have one.

  • Plz help: Can i type Chinese using an Apple English wireless keyboard?

Kind of struggling between whether should i buy a wireless keyboard for my ipad air 2 as i may have lotta word job related to Chinese and French, and i know that French is okay with the English keyboard, at least much eaiser than typing Chinese characters. So the real concern is, can i properly type Chinese with the wireless keyboard? I've seen some solutions (all didn't mention if it has been proved or not so i automatically assume they are all just beautiful hypotheses) posted in the community claiming you just need go to settings then select the international language you wanna use, and you will be all set (in both virtual and external keyboard)----is that true??? Pleeeease help, thousands of thanks

Boom here i back. First of all i have to say that Amazon Prime delivery speed is aaaaawesome! Placed my order yesterday and got my new shiny wireless keyboard right in TODAY'S MORNING! Thanks Amazon.
And switch back to the topic. So thrilled to unwrap my package and write down this review here----Yes, absoluately this keyboard can type Chinese, just tried on it and received a perfect performance along with a fluent typing experience. Well, actually, it can undertake all different languages that preset in the ipad software without any problem, thus the language versions provided to the keyboard is just a matter of layouts, which is absoluately not relevant, like Tom said, for what language you can type.
There's one thing need to be mentioned though, if your keyboard is an English version, when you wanna type accented letters like French or special symbols, you may have to memorize some certain keys and then press the "option" button at the same time to bring up the hidden stuff you want since there's nothing but just English letters printed on each key.
Furthermore, the design is simple but stylish, super thin and feather-light, always ready to go, make a fantastic pair with my ipad and now they are officially couples kkkkkkkkkk. Have to admit that Apple always make good-looking products.
Regarding to the battery life, ummmmmmmm...have no idea right now as it's a brandnew boy, but referring to most of other folks, let's say the battery can last for months even with an everyday-use, i hope so....Nous allons attendre et voir !
As for those who don't know how to tell the keyboard is on/off, just tried on mine, to turn it off, simply press the big home botton on the side and hold for seconds till the green lil light goes out (usually takes 3 seconds or so), if you wanna double check, just hit a key randomly and you will notice that no further letters appear on your screen due to the disconnection of the keyboard.
So, all in all, if you like this keyboard and you are a heavy word job person, go for it, no concern leave behind. (Apple should really pay me advertising fees for all these words and i'm tired out for typing already kkkkkkkk)
    Hoping this helps
    Chloe

    Hi Chloe Violette,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that you would like to use the Apple Wireless Keyboard with English letters to type characters in different languages. This can be done by changing the import sources to type in other languages, including Chinese. For information on this process, please refer to the attached article.
