Can files be recovered after running system recovery

Hi,
Can anyone help me to recover lost files. By mistake somebody had run system recovery on my laptop I don't have backup of any files. Kindly suggest if there is any way to retrieve files.
Thanks.

Hi,
There are companies that specialise in this sort of data retrieval, but it's an expensive option.  There are also free and paid for software utilities you can try.  To start with, I'd suggest the free program on the link below.

  • My system freezes during start-up "for first time" after running System Recovery.

    HP G62-227CL
    Win 7 (64 bit)
No error message, per se; just a frozen screen during reboot.
Months ago, my computer suddenly started glitching on me.  I shut down and tried a reboot.  The system froze on the boot screen with the flying colors.  Tried system recovery several times  but must have done something wrong because it would not run.  Resolved to buy a new hard drive and reinstall from recovery discs.  Delayed for no good reason until today, months later.
Before buying new hard drive, decided to run System Recovery again.  It worked!  I tried the option that deleted everything and restored to original factory settings and software.  Everything appeared to work like a charm: hard drive reformatted, software reinstalled, system prompted me for a reboot.  I did.  Windows started to start, "Setup preparting your computer for the first use" appears . . . and freezes.  For hours.  Hard drive indicator light is off.
BTW, made sure that the Wi-Fi button was on as I read about Recovery issues if it was off when the program ran.
Rebooted.  Hit F11.  Ran maintenance and checked hard drive for errors.  There are errors.  Unfortunately, the default setting of CHKDSK does not repair them.   Opted for a command prompt.  Rand CHKDSK again with "/f /r" option seen in other posts.  I'm too ignorant here to get the program to run properly, I guess.  I ran CHKDSK on both drive X and C.  No errors found . . . sort of.  I know they exist because the system will not boot up.  (Yes, I tried again.)  Back at command prompt, I tried to run CHKDSK on drive C again.  This time I received a message that I would first have to unmount (dismount?) the drive.  As I do not know what this means, I opted for "no" and have decided to post this message for assistance.
So.  Suggestions on what I do next?  More specifically: how do I get CHKDSK to repair the errors it found?  I believe the message was: "Errors in $130 of sector . . ."  It displays this message twice at 62% completion.  Freezes for a long time.  Gets going again only to slow to a crawl again around 70% but for not as long.  Then returns back to the start screen of System Recovery.
Ran System Recovery again for kicks.  Again, appeared to work like a charm.  Unfortunately, the laptop is once again sitting frozen on the "Preparing . . . for first use" screen again.  It is getting hotter the longer it sits.  The fan is now audibly running at higher rpms . . . if any of that helps.  I'm shutting it down and waiting for your advice.
    Thanks!

Hello Miles1966.  I understand you're experiencing some issues with your notebook freezing.
This does sound like a hard drive problem.  The freezes, missing HDD indicator light, and inability to perform a recovery are all symptoms of a failing hard drive.  You had been using CHKDISK previously but have you tried running the diagnostic which is built into the BIOS?  Try following these steps and post the result of the diagnostic.  I suggest running the memory test as well just in case.
Let me know the result of these diagnostics.  I hope you have a great day!

  • Cannot run system recovery

I think my notebook has a virus. Last night it shut down after I installed avast anti virus, & would not come back on. I have a black screen with a flashing cursor in top left corner. I can get into the startup menu by holding ESC while powering up, it will let me press F1, F2, F9 & F10 but if I press F11 to run system recovery, it just goes straight back to the black screen.
I am not particularly knowledgeable but really want to get this thing up & running again. I know I might lose everything saved on it but that's ok. Just want some simple straightforward advice on what I can do please! Many thanks

  • How do I run system recovery?

    Hi,
Anyone know how to run system recovery? My machine is: Toshiba Satellite L300D.
I have tried "the hold down power button for 10 seconds and then press and hold zero keys" ( Http://www.toshiba.com.au => Home>>Support>>FAQ>>How do I rum System Recovery? ) but I does not work.
After I release the 0 key it should come up the warning screen but what was show up is a blank black and at the top of the screen theres a blurry small words (fonts 2-3 maybe, I cant read it though).
    Thanks

    Hi,
Hold down the 0 (Zero) key, turn hte laptop on, then release the Zero key when the Toshiba logo appears.
If that doesnt work, go into the Windows boot menu by pressing F8 as soon as Windows starts booting, then go into the Recovery Options. You can also run Recoveyr from there (If its Vista).

  • Firefox is hung upm in memory after a system recovery. How can you reset when you cant get your browser up. I have uninstall several times even in safe mode

after doing the recovery, I am getting message that firefox is running and I can't get a browser up. Have uninstalled and reinstalled several times, even in safe mode. All cookies out. have rebooted several times. all to no avail. I can't reset it if I can't get a browser and find no button on your page to reset. Can someone tell what to do?

Note that using System Restore can cause your Firefox installation to get corrupted because not all files are restored (only files in a white-list), so be cautious with using System Restore.
*You may lose data in the Firefox profile folder like .js and .ini files.
*You may need to (re)install software that was affected.
In case you need to reinstall Firefox then you need to delete the Firefox program folder before reinstalling to make sure that all files get replaced.

  • How can I restore a broken user after a System-Recovery?

I recently tried upgrading my PowerMac G4 from Mac OS X Tiger to Leopard, but the Mac crashed in the process and all seemed lost. However, with a system recovery, I managed to get everything back. At least, almost everything. I still had to create a new account, and this account was missing the addresses from the previous account in Addressbook. Addressbook was empty. Addressbook used to be filled with addresses from 2 accounts. I managed to recover the addresses from one account, but the other seems inaccesible. I tried restoring the account. Empty. I tried copying the files and giving myself read/write permissions. Nothing. I tried showing hidden files.Nothing. Does anybody know what's going on here? How do I recover this account/the addresses from Adressbook (I don't really care about the other files on the account).

I tried restoring the account. Empty.
Ooops, I don't think that was the ting to do. Would only erase stuff if anything.
    Get Find Any File...
    http://apps.tempel.org/FindAnyFile/
Hold Option key down when clicking on Find to Find All.
Search your whole drive for Name contains...
    AddressBook.data
What we're hoping to find for that old account are one or more of these...
    AddressBook.data.beforesave
    AddressBook.data.previous

  • How to recover saved sessions after a system recovery with backup [DUPE: /questions/770295]

Computer kept crashing and wasn't able to log on, so I had to do a system recovery with backup. Was wondering if there was anyway to get back my saved sessions that I kept.

Probably not. A System Restore can replace the current file sessionstore.js with an older version and if that happens then you lose that session unless you have made a backup of sessionstore.js before doing the system restore.

  • Getting my HP Pavilion g7 with Windows 7 back to normal after a system recovery.

I did a system recovery for my HP Pavilion g7 with Windows 7 and have all of my files on a SanDisk thumb drive. How do I get my laptop's files, folders, shortcuts, applications, etc. all back to the way they were?

Hello marinegf.  I understand you've lost your sound after performing a System Restore.
What is the product number for your notebook?  There are many versions of the HP 2000 and this will make it easier for me to locate any appropriate software.  This document can show you how to identify the notebook by the product number.
Also, it may be helpful to know what issue you encountered which led you to perform a System Restore.
The first suggestion I can offer you is to run Microsoft's Audio Troubleshooter.  Here is a link to the utility.
If the troubleshooter is unable to resolve the issue I suggest you next try removing the driver and allowing Windows to perform the reinstall.  I assume you're using Windows 7, so these instructions will be for Vista/7.
Click Start, type "Device Manager," and press Enter.
Expand the "Sound, video, and game controllers" section.
Right click on your audio device and select "Uninstall."
Reboot your computer and allow Windows to perform the reinstallation of the driver.
Verify whether or not you have sound and post the result!
I'll keep an eye out for your reply.  I hope you have a great day!

Failure to down load CC Acrobat DC Pro for a second time after having to perform a system recovery.
The previous 'DC Pro' is not showing as not being an installed program.
When trying to perform the update again an error shows in the Creative Cloud window 'the download appears corrupt please try again in a few minutes(26).
Trying again both in a few minutes and after a restart the same error message shows again.
    What next?

check the dl'd file size vs expected file size to see if you're getting a completed download.
also, you can try a different browser and/or different wired connection and/or a download manager.

  • After a system recovery, I have lost my "links" on the desktop taskbar, can't find it to replace.

When I originally started using firefox, I found an "add on?" that put "links on my desktop taskbar so I could go directly to that link instead of having to open firefox and then typing it in. I just had to do a full system restore on my computer, and now I'm back up and can't find the add on or extension, or whatever it's called to put it back on my taskbar. HELP PLEASE!

If, for whatever reason, you are unable to restore your iTunes Library from the external hard drive or backups, you can always contact Apple. I had recently lost my entire iTunes library when the hard drive it was located on crashed. After contacting Apple, they "reauthorized" all my purchased tracks and made them available from the iTunes store.

  • How do I run system recovery dvd from an external dvd drive?

I am having trouble trying to restore my DV 6000 (dv6915nr) from an external dvd drive.  I am aware that this laptop has had several hardware issues, including the loss of use of the internal dvd drive and have tried all the fixes that I could find, including changing filter settings in the registry, changinging the boot order in the bios and even removing the intenal drive.  Since none of these fixes worked, I removed the hard drive and installed window 7 Prodessional in a desktop computer.  After reinstalling drive in laptop, I installed all the Vista drivers from HP.  Computer works fine except for sound card and Nic that failed and have been replaced by USB devices.  Simce I am not 100% sure the hardware failures are motherboard failures and not software, I would really like to run my System Restore DVDs that I purchased from HP.  And that's where I need help.
I am A Plus and Network Plus certified, so I am pretty sure  that I have tried all the obvious soutions.  Evedrything turned on, checked the cables, accessed dvd in wimdows and even ran restore disk in a desktop machine to the point that it told me I was trying to restore the wong computer.  I downloaded a program called Win To Flash that allows you to copy a setup disk to an external hard drive, but that didn't work.  HP restore disk does not have  Setup file on it, so it wouldn't copy to drive.  Tried just copying the disk to external and that didn't work either.  Also tried switching drive letters D and E without any success.
    Bios choices are:
    USb floppy
    ATAPI cd/dvd rom drive
    USB diskette on key
    Notebook Hard drive
    Network Adapter
Original restore partition is long gone.
I would rather restore it with an external Hard drive, not an USB memory stick.  I think both would work the same.  I do have an USB floppy drive, if there is some way of starting installation from floppies.
Like I said, I really like the computer, even with all its faults, but I would like to restore it to its original  Operating System.

Some progress, I got it to try to boot from an external hard drive.  Downloaded a program called WINToboot. tried to run it, got as far as formatting my  hard drive and might have loaded some kind of boot program.  Would not copy my restore disks because they did not have set up program.  Copied both restore disks to hard drive and tried to boot laptop.  F0 produced choose external hard drive choice.  Got "no OS found" error. only choice ctl alt del. I think I am headed in right direction.  Just need to know what to load on external hard drive.

  • Can files on Ipod after restore still be aproached

During my holiday i've put my photographs, using Belikin's media reader, on my iPod. Coming home my iPod wouldn't play music, was not recognizeded in iTunes and could not be used as a hard disk. The only thing to get it living again was a restore. All files on the iPod, including my holiday photo's were gone. I know there is software that can recover deleted files from hard disks.
Now, does something like that exists for the iPod, considering it contains a 40 GB hard drive?
    Help will be much appreciated.
